I think the problem with pokemon starters now is that they have stepped away in new gens from starters looking like monsters you tame to little friends from start to finish. I wish theyd do a combo of both have the 1st forms be cute and then the final becomes cool and tough

I love how they made two/three Pokemon that would have gotten Bug Normal and Bug Dragon out of the way with Tarountula and Spidops and Slither Wing and they flubbed it.

When I think of my favorite pokemon I don't recall one specific form of art, for me it depends on what pokemon I'm thinking. For examole, Alakazam to me is mostly stats. I recall old pokemondb graphics with that long line for Special Attack, and than I remember Sugimori Art. Another example: my favorite Rock type is specifically Gen 2 Golem, not any other ireration, specifically Gen 2, and I remember its Gen 2 sprite being displayed in Pokémon Showdown team builder. When I think about my favorite pokemon of (almost) all time Mewtwo I usually imagine my own interpretation based on some early Sugimori arts mixed with Mewtwo from the anime and some HGSS sprites. My own version of Mewtwo is even more human-like (however I do NOT believe Mewtwo is part human anywhere besides manga) and is a lot smaller, like 5 feet maybe, and is of the color that's closer to Mew from the first movie than Mewtwo.

I love Sprigatto in all of its forms so anyone who picks that wins in my eyes. I would go as far as to say it's my favorite Pokemon ever because I love cats and no other cat Pokemon has looked as cute or as cool as Meowscarada. Definitely picking him when I get Violet, because I want an Aqua Breed Tauros for my team. Skeledirge is great, and I like Quaxly but it's my least favorite Paldean starter so I'm picking Fuecoco when I play Scarlet because Violet has an exclusive fire/ghost type so this way I won't be doubling up on that awesome typing.

"at least that is one thing the whole fandom agrees on"
WELL HOLD UP AND FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS,
cause I always gladly defend the Pawmi line all day.
The "point" of Pawmi's evolution process is that it presents the solution to the age-old Pikachu evolution dilemma (which was most strongly portrayed by the early anime - Lt. Surge arc, where Ash ended up not evolving his Pikachu because they both didn't want it to permanently "change" so much), by exploring a compromise.
Gamefreak either sees or assumes that the fandom perceives the cuteness-aspects in Pikaclones as so crucial to their identity, that in order to finally feel okay with evolving them, the price is that their "personality" has to stay intact through the evolution process.
Pawmo and Pawmot are a way of letting pikaclone fans get the starter-esque growth moments with a pikaclone, without it losing a certain kind of charm that it starts out with.
If we've been okay with things like Dugtrio counting as separate Pokemon without some fictional crisis of dex-slots happening as a result in all these years, then Pokémon like Pawmo and Pawmot are perfectly fine to exist (this also always reminds me of people who were complaining about baby Pokemon back in like gen 2 and gen 4, which has never stopped being silly...it's not like some badass dragon is scrapped because freaking Pawmo inflated the number too much lol).
And I personally am on-board with that.
If we can get better stats for Emolga or Pachirisu for example, by having them evolve without substantially changing, I would embrace that possibility over them never evolving at all.

Zarude's name comes some Za (JAP = the) and rude (ve-ru-de - romanization for Verde [Green in Portuguese)]. They're based of Gibraltar monkeys, the inspiration for the starting location in SV. Even the city in the Koko movie is heavily inspired by Portugal's Luso while the Forest of Okoya resembles the "Mata Nacional do Bussaco".

A Pokemon doesn't have to have a cool or detailed design for me to like it. Espeon is probably my favorite Pokemon and compared to the other Eeveelutions it probably has the simplest design, and that's what I like about it.
Also the fact that Truegreen7's favorite Anime is mine too, means he has excellent taste :D

I don't think that the Paldean Tauros are redundant, I think that they're an awesome upgrade and I honestly like them better than the original version. But to be honest if you take a normal type and give them a new type or a secondary typing like Galarian Zigzagoons I will probably prefer it over the original.

I’m gonna step in and say that the Pawmot line is literally the same as the Pidgey line. They barely change and they only gain more hair/feathers and get bigger upon evolution. If you prefer the bird over the mouse it’s fine but they’re the same 😂😂 both are okay to me though

    • @lipika2841
      @lipika2841 ปีที่แล้ว

But here's the thing though, the Pidgey line appearance wise dont look nearly as bad (especially Pidgeotto that actually looks kinda cool with its pink hair) as the Pawmi line, which all seem awkward as heck. But you're right, they've got some similarities. Even with their names only a few letters were changed, removed or added upon evolution Pawmo➡️ Pawmot Pidgeotto➡️ Pidgeot.

@@HiddenPowerPodcast I don't think that humanoid starters or humanoid Pokemon in general are an issue at all. Monsters come in all shapes in sizes and some of the most common ones we see/knew about WERE humanoid (i.e. Scooby Dool villains, Dracula, Mummy, Werewolf, Frankenstein's Monster, etc.) Hell, even stuff like Predator and Alien have some humanoid aspects, but are still monstrous.
So, personally, I don't see the huge fuss. Kanto and Johto are only 2/9 generations where every starter is "non-humanoid" and that's it. I understand that people always praise the "older stuff" anyway, but they can't just ignore the fact that Gen 1 set the foundation of what any and all Pokemon could be. (Humanoid, objects, random combos, regular-lookin stuff, yokai, 'titties' (Jynx, Nidoqueen lol). There's always been leaner and/or more humanoid starters from Gen 3 onwards, starting with Blaziken, then Infernape and Empoleon (literally based on Napoleon), Emboar, an argument can be made since it's based on a certain character, and the rest that people always have issues with.
As for design philosphy, yeah. Each generation has its own distinct feel to it, and the artwork plays a huge part in that. You can see the change in each interation. Sugimori stopped being the 'main artist' in Gen 7, and it's been different artists ever since. He's still playing a role, but his artwork isn't the 'standard' anymore, which is why so many people probably feel like newer artwork for certain mons are lackluster or weird.
Fakemon wise, I'm of the mind that since they're not allowed to even look at Fakemon designs and our designs will never be in the franchise (unless we somehow get picked up, lol) , we're free to do whatever we want. If you wanna follow the rules they've made, go for it. If you don't, then you don't have to.
However, something has to be said regarding the notion that "Fakemon are always better", because we all know that if a Fakemon artist ends up making real designs, they'll be treated like how people treat James Turner (people blame him for all object Pokemon designs and act like he's the reason Pokemon designs suck now, just because he's the only 'non-Japanese' guy who's designed official mons.) All of the "Gamefreak should hire you" posts would turn into "Gamefreak should fire you". And it's something you notice easily because majority of the time, us Fakemon artists make a lot of cool and goofy designs that don't always line up with the philosophy the artists abide by. Ex. If a Fakemon artist made a design based on something weird or outlandish or whatever, they'd get praised, but if it ever becomes official... "They're running out of ideas"
