Insane, i'm in the same boat currently! Just got done hunting all Alolans a few days ago, that alone took multiple months.. currently hunting for the starters. i'm like 50 or 60 Pokemon in.
I’ve started with getting all Pokemon for Sword then I’m gonna go for Arceus. I’m worried it’ll be too hard for me to shiny hunt the ones I want especially in Sword since you can’t see if they’re shiny unless you battle them. I’ve been hatching some but I’m still a bit worried about spending hours to hunt the one I want only to not get it
The best part is, if you're planning to do an entire dex, Celebi is probably the easiest of the mythicals to hunt. Jirachi and Manaphy are both absolutely brutal.
Idk why john said its one of the longest Sr hunts. I timed celebi encounters since I'm also hunting it and it takes about 30 seconds a reset. Like sure it's 1 in 8192 odds but even then it's pretty quick compared to some of the other hunts like story latias, starter in xy or usum and so many more
@@Snowstorm174 oh 100% not to mention the price to do so requiring 2 consoles and at minimum 3 games. I'm doing a shiny living dex but since I only got my 3ds, the only way I can hunt manaphy is by using pksm to store it like bank while I delete and reset the save. Timing wise it's about 2-3 minutes a reset so much quicker than trading but a bit of a cheat method

You have inspired me to hunt for shinies from time to time! I know it's considered "easy" in scatlet/violet but for a person that doesn't have hours every day it's a very nice change!
I know some people don't like it, but I personally LOVE how accessible shinies are in games like Legends: Arceus and Scarlet/Violet... It makes shiny hunting actually feel _reasonable_ instead of just a waste of many many hours of my life.
I mean that wasn’t a living dex. A living dex is where you have one of each Pokémon whereas during a professor oak challenge you just need to register each Pokemon like for a professor oak you just need to catch one pichu and evolve it up but in a living dex you get three pichus and evolve one to Pikachu the other to raichu and leave the last one as a pichu
He didn't do the living Dex, but honestly he basically did do the biggest chunk of the game, including the hardest ones to obtain, which would have been the legendaries and fossils

Well don't worry, Shinies are ridiculously simple to get now. I finally bought Scarlet the other day, started my game, & after the intro stuff, the VERY FIRST WILD ENCOUNTER I had was a Shiny Tarountula. Literally did not see a normal variant until after I caught the Shiny. I didn't even know it was Shiny until I saw all the yellow Tarountula & realized "wait a sec, was that a Shiny?!". If that doesn't describe perfectly just how broken the Shiny odds are now then Idk what does. Again, my very first wild encounter in the game was immediately a Shiny. I have only ever found 2 legit Shinies in the wild, both in Pokémon Gold, a Zubat & a Geodude. I have mostly kept up with Pokémon games too. & in all those years, haven't found a random wild Shiny again, until my VERY FIRST WILD ENCOUNTER on Pokémon Scarlet. 😅
@@atomdecay That's just being lucky. The odds for that were still 1/4096. Shiny odds only get ridiculous once you have the charm and a method like sandwiches
I started hunting Celebi a day or two after you caught Celebi. One month later and over 10,500 encounters later... and I'm still hunting it. I hunted it the entire time I watched this video. This Celebi will be the end of me.
@@JayseBerrett Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse, but there's a 20.54% chance of you NOT encountering a shiny Celebi (full odds) in 12,964 encounters. So, in a way, you're both unlucky and lucky at the same time.
@@surjux6271 Yeah, I check the chance that I would have found it after every 1,000 or so resets. I put in another 400 resets since my last comment, so I'm now 5K over odds with nothing to show for it.
I think it would be fair to only allow yourself to hunt all the duplicates for evolution in scarlet and violet. Treat it like an unlock. You catch the base form in an old game, allowing you to hunt the 2nd or 3rd in paldea.

Not many TH-camrs make a video that I immediately have to watch...nobody works harder for their content and it shows. I've also watched a few multiple times, including the shiny Professor Oak which I think I've watched at least 10 times purely due to how obscene that achievement is. Keep up the good work John!

The way I learned about the shiny-boosted egg event in gen 2 was when I tried doing a Crystal nuzlocke a few years ago, hatched a shiny Pichu, and nearly had a heart attack before looking up the odds. I'll never forget that little detail now.

So I had no idea that Smoochum was that rare as a shiny encounter in the Odd Egg. I guess I got really lucky as a kid. I happened to get it again when the virtual consoles released and I still have Baba Yaga as a shiny Jynx today 😂
The second I saw you hit the Friend Safari I laughed, and then when you got irritated at Volbeat I laughed even harder. I caught six shiny Woobat in a Flying safari trying to get a SINGLE Pidgey. To this day I still cannot see Woobat without getting irritated. The FS is both generous and RAGE-INDUCING

@@nemijsthey may be able to get away with another gen or two as bad as ScaVi, but the goodwill will run out eventually. It’s just logical that they’ll both want to prevent that, and put all their eggs in the basket of Generation 10 coming out for the 30th anniversary. They have the easiest money making marketing move being handed to them on a platter, it’s not naive to assume theyre likely to take advantage. ScaVi sold like hotcakes, why fix it when they could move on and make way more money? Money is the only thing that matters here

Shiny Slowpoke is such a pain to shiny hunt in Scarlet and violet. I only have one that out of sheer luck had the rare mark. I was so paranoid after getting it due to the fact that I could come across another one without realising it .

When you think about it, shiny locks on legendaries makes perfect sense from a gameplay perspective. It's not fun resetting your game thousands of times at the climax.

When you think about it, shiny locks on legendaries makes perfect sense from a gameplay perspective.
It's not fun resetting your game thousands of times at the climax.
The only shiny legendary i ever failed was a lugia in oras. 20 pp is brutal.
My first was a shiny Mewtwo in Ultra Sun, where I knocked it out by accident with my Zoroark

@@pikasnoop6552 I guess meant that for any "I caught every Generation X pokemon", the only pokemon included in that list are pokemon introduced in Generation X. If so, then how he worded doesn't really get that across well.
