Emma: *makes a favorite books of 2017 video* Me: "Which ever Cassie Clare book came out this year is number one" Emma: "My number one favorite book of the year is Lord of Shadows" Me: "Well, called it"
It sounds strange when you say 'as an adult reading Young Adult' like girl! You are a young adult :D It's sad that YA seems to get pushed more on teenagers than actual adults. Makes me feel old when I'm only 23 lol
Sara Djaroud When people say "young adult" it normally means someone in their 20's or early 20's. An 18 year old while of legal age, is still a 'teen', eigh(teen), nine(teen).
Girl I'm about to be 30 years old (Feb 21) and YA is still my favorite genre lol! Currently reading the Diviners and don't get me started on ACOTR, my absolutely fave series of all time!
My favorite books I read this year:: 1. Strange the Dreamer 2. The Raven King 3. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (reread) 4. The Heart of Betrayal 5. Hawkeye, Volume IV Omnibus (reread) 6. All the Crooked Saints 7. The Scorpio Races 8. The Sun is also a Star 9. Illuminae 10. Every Heart a Doorway 11. Blue Lily, Lily Blue 12. Daughter of Smoke and Bone 13. Days of Blood and Starlight 14. Salt to the Sea 15. History is all you Left me 16. They Both Die at the End 17. Hawkeye: Kate Bishop, Vol. 2 18. Two By Two
My 2017 favs: (not in order) 1: A List Of Cages 2: Carry On 3: HIAYLM/ TBDATE (I can’t choose!!) 4: Everything Everything 5: Lord of Shadows 6: Turtles All the Way Down 7: Crooked Kingdom 8: Of Fire and Stars 9: Heartless 10: Illuminae 11: Magnus Chase and the Ship Of the Dead 12: The Hate U Give 13: The Upside Of Unrequited 14: The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows Of Ava Lavender 15: The Selection Series 16: Secrets For the Mad 17: Geekerella
Thanks to you I began The shadowhunters world, and I can't wait to get to lady midnight and lord of shadows! I loved Infernal Devices trilogie as much as I hated the first book from Cassie Clare (yes sorry not sorry) can't wait to read where she is going to take us!
Hellraiky x interesting. Infernal devices was my least favorite of the stories. Not to say it was bad by any definition of the word but I always liked mortal instruments best and dark artifices is a good runner against mortal instrument so far. Valentine’s ending as well as Sebastian/jonathan’s were riveting. The main villains in mortal instruments were much deeper with their beliefs and ambition.
I haven’t even read 85 full on books in my life! Recently something clicked though, and now I’m loving all books! Part of this was do to booktube and your guys’ content.
BooksNovelsDisney I think my record was 52 books in a yr. That was in high school when I actually had the time for it. Would you believe me if I said if you told me I’d grow to love books when I was a kid I’d laugh in your face?hahaha
Lord Of Shadows was soooooo good! It’s Cassie’s best book to date. The ending had me shook. Read some fantastic books this year but it was like my worst reading year ever- here’s to a better 2018 🥂
"Eliza and Her Monsters" is one of my favorite books of all time! "Gentlemen's Guide..." was sooooo good too! And I'm currently reading "Of Fire and Stars" as well! There were so many good books this year and I'm so glad you liked these!
I called so many of these, which can only mean that your love for them has been so consistent throughout the year, bless.HURRAY FOR ALL THE LOVE AND ENTHUSIASM (and may i finally pick up more of these throughout 2018 cause homegirl's still dying to read soo many of them)
thank you emma. you have helped me overcome anorexia. I have been watching you since the start of your channel and these videos have brought so much light in my life. I couldn't have done it without you and booktube.
Thanks, Emma! I love your enthusiasm. I have "The Diviners" and "Of Fire and Stars" and "Moxie" on Kindle TBR. I'm currently reading "The Hate You Give." My two favorite books of the year were "Attachments" by Rainbow Rowell, which made me laugh and cry, and Laini Taylor's exquisite "Strange the Dreamer."
Hi Emma your my inspiration I’m thinking of starting a booktube channel due to watching your channel for the past year. Btw your Xmas decorations are so good. 😊
A Tragic Kind of Wonderful is definitely on my list. I suffer from Bipolar 1 rapid cycle and need more books like this in my life. Along with The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed. In the past anything by her is on my auto buy! Anymore suggestions on books about BP? Have a Merry Christmas! Love your videos!!!!!
I get so excited when we get long videos from you. Love your makeup in this video and so excited to check out some of the books I haven’t read that you mentioned!
Some of my favorite books that I read this year are Lord of Shadows The Six of Crows duology Far From the Tree It Winter Suicide Notes Rumble fish The Rest of Us Just Live Here We Now Return to Regular Life Every Heart a Doorway
Hate U Give was absolutely incredible and also one of my favorite reads of this year! As soon as I was finished, I gave it to my mom to read because it's such an important book. Some of my other favorites were The Bear and the Nightingale, Forest of a Thousand Lanterns, and the Six of Crows duology (technically didn't come out this year, but I read them this year). You keep mentioning The Diviners and I've moved it to the top of my TBR, along with Eliza and Her Monsters, and (not mentioned in this video) A List of Cages :D
Definitely definitely Under Rose-Tainted Skies. I identified with that book so much - her anxiety, feeling like you aren't enough for someone who has an interest in you, all of it was so exquisite I felt like bursting every time I picked it up. I got Warcross in my Uppercase box, I'm planning on reading it next semester (it's in my apartment right now but I''m at home!) and I can't wait. I love to see everyone raving about a book sitting on my shelf waiting for me.
DID YOU READ NOT IF I SEE YOU FIRST??? Eric Lindstrom's first (I think) book, featuring a blind girl named Parker, is one of my favorite books of all time. Go check it out!!
My fave book of the year was obviously Lord of Shadows :P Coming at a VERY close second though are all of Adam's books, which I read cause of you!! Thanks for the recommendations, glad you had a great year, and here's to an even better 2018!!
I loved reading gone girl, the girl on the train, and Anna and the french kiss. I know some people dislike these books or don’t agree with them but I am a beginner reader. I just started reading within the last year. I hope to read the harry potter series, the mortal instruments series, the book thief and more!
I’ve been trying to read lord of shadows since the week it came out and have yet to get past page 300 (judge me) I love Cassandra Clare and her books but sometimes I just get bored and I always struggle reading books with multiple point of views especially if there’s a POV from a character i don’t like as much.
Hi Emma, because of you I went and started my own channel thank you so so much for the encouragement! I won't post a link because that's rude to do. I am looking forward to growing and being apart of this book community. Also, looking forward to watching your channel this year! Christina
The only one on this list that I have read is Of Fire and Stars and I read it after seeing your LBTQIA+ recommendations video and I absolutely loved it! I have never read a more relatable character to me than Mare and it made me so happy! I’m so glad you recommended it!
Excellent video!! And now I have a few books to add to my 2018 reading list!! I sadly haven't read any of these this year. However, I have to say my favorite read this year was Watchmen by Alan Moore. This was not a graphic novel that was released this year, in fact, it was first released 1986 - 1987 in a 12 issue series. At the time this was a big step up from what comics normally were which is "Bad guy has a plan, and we'll stop him at the end of this issue." However, this took a bunch of superheroes and made them a little more grounded and it dealt with real-world issues. The big one that it centered around was nuclear war breaking out and how do they deal with this, especially now that they live in a world that no longer wants them, while also dealing with a mysterious killer who is killing off superheroes one by one. To me, this story still holds up today as one of the greatest comicbook series of all time.
Thanks for so many awesome book recommendations! You had so many books on your list that I haven't heard of/haven't seen on any other list. I was making a to read list while watching your video 😊 oh and one of my favorites from 2017 was Geekerella 💖
Thank you, Emma, for all of your wonderful videos! I'm grateful for the insight you give into books and I'm always excited to hear from you. Also, I just started reading The Hate U Give -great so far!
Thanks so much for sharing, Emma! Desperately needed some new ideas for books recs. You always describe them so well. 4 books on my birthday list. I definitely restrained myself 😂 xxxxx
My favourite books and book series of this year are- Those Girls by Chevy Stevens, Angels & Demons by Dan Brown, A Hundred Pieces Of Me by Lucy Dillon, The Darkest Hour by Barbara Erskine, Time's Legacy by Barbra Erskine, The Divergent series by Veronica Roth The Dark Secrets series by Elizabeth Chandler. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl (the first book in the series.)
I have Moxie, Eliza and her Monsters, They Both Die at the End, and A Tragic Kind of Wonderful all on my TBR list!! They will be probably be my January/February 2018 reads. Have a wonderful Christmas :)
I've been contributing to your transcriptions, and will soon move on to Spanish cc. It is honestly something that I didn't know I needed in my life. 😅 Just subscribed about a couple of weeks ago. I've been binge watching all your videos (as creepy as it sounds..), and you are amazing! Definitely my favorite booktuber! I've recently gotten back into reading after going through a rough time in my life, and I'm so happy I've found your channel. Keep on being amazing! P.S. I love your clothes and makeup! So stylish!!!
8 of them are available at my library :D I read Moxie already! Lord of Shadows (after I catch up, lol), Diviners (and its sequels), The Hate U Give, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue, and Eliza and Her Monsters are all on my list already for the new year
You just reminded me how much I need Under Rose Tainted Skies, Definitely one of the books on my immediate tbr. Totally knew Cassie was your number 1. XD
Some of my favourites this year were The Hate U Give, All the Light we Cannot See, The Kite Runner, Paperweight, A List of Cages, I See You and I Let You Go.
Of Fire And Stars *swoon* Also, I am loving the poncho-esque sweater thing haha. I still haven't read any Adam Silvera and I am beyond ashamed :/ Lord Of Shadowssssss such a fantastic book!!
Seeing Of Fire and Stars makes me so happy. 2017 was the year I FINALLY made my best friend fall in love with reading again and she's currently reading it (she also LOVED the monsters of verity duology as well)
I’ve never heard of Nice Try, Jane Sinner. I think I’m going to pick it up at some point because I experienced something very similar in high school and I was also expelled. It was a very difficult time for me, and I felt horrifically misunderstood by everyone. It was painful to feel that I was being punished for mental illness, and years later I still have never discussed it with my family. I’m curious about this book now!
Queens of Geek was probably my favorite of 2017! I had never related to a book so much in my life and I still think about how much I love it constantly
I'm currently reading A list of Cages. Oml, I already know it's going to be my favourite. ❤ My favourite book, the one I read this year, is Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the Universe. It's pure gold. ❤
Wow! Now I really have to get my read on. I think I will love some of the books that were your favorite that seemed like something I'd read. I can't wait to try a few out like the nowhere girls and before the devils breaks you, seem really interesting, that's not all I'm going to check out that's just a few! Lol. Emma, you really are like my go to person when wanting to find something exciting and new to read. Thank you so much for being you. :D
Don't know why, but I really can't get into Cassandra Clare. Like at all. I have read the first in TMI hated it. Could barely get through and then the whole incest just grossed me out. Read the first in TID and I actually liked it a lot more, but I just never picked up the second. And then I have read halfway through TDA and I just put it down one day and haven picked it up again... I guess I just don't click with the author or characters. But I do love the world she build up and I'm a 100% gonna try and finish TDA and TID... :) Someday..
Lexie Woodburne it does not matter it isn't real. I know what happens. But not just once did Cassandra think incest was cool, but twice. It may not be real, but both Clary and Jace thought they were siblings all the while they both are in love with eachother and that I just can't do... :)
The premise of Nice Try Jane Sinner sounds so interesting, especially with the getting kicked out of school because of a suicide attempt aspect, because that sounds like something that my school would do despite how harmful that would be to a depressed person. I trust your judgement on this one Emma, so I'm excited to hopefully pick it up soon.
I ended up reading What I Lost on your recommendation on Monday and I finished the entire book in one day (which I haven't done in ages!) because I loved it so much! It was also nice to see a side character from Long Island because that never happens!
Thank you for this video, I’m French and I was looking for English/American books to improve my vocabulary and now I want to read ALL the novels you presents in the video ❤️ (sorry if there is mistakes in my comment)
I just finished The Nowhere Girls yesterday after picking it up based on your recommendation, and it immediately became one of my favorite books of the year. So powerful and well written!
I finished the book The Nowhere Girls in about a day, and I really wanted to see a review BUT LITERALLY NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT!!! You were the person I got the book recommendation from and I'm SO FREAKING HAPPY that I read it (although there were parts where I wanted to throw the book across the room with the sexist things the guys and principal were saying in there, but I pushed through it). Ugh I just want so many more people to read it and to talk about it.
This isn't related to the books but I'm absolutely living for your outfit/hair/makeup in this video you look BOMB AF
hahhah thank you
yes she does

It sounds strange when you say 'as an adult reading Young Adult' like girl! You are a young adult :D It's sad that YA seems to get pushed more on teenagers than actual adults. Makes me feel old when I'm only 23 lol
ah i mean ya definitely is catered towards teens i feel as the main characters are always teens. but you are right, i am a "young adult" hahaha
Technically speaking young adult is between 18 and 21

YESSSS SO GOOOOOOOD
I’ve been trying to read lord of shadows since the week it came out and have yet to get past page 300 (judge me) I love Cassandra Clare and her books but sometimes I just get bored and I always struggle reading books with multiple point of views especially if there’s a POV from a character i don’t like as much.
i totally understand that!
Hi Emma, because of you I went and started my own channel thank you so so much for the encouragement! I won't post a link because that's rude to do. I am looking forward to growing and being apart of this book community. Also, looking forward to watching your channel this year!

One of my favorite videos of the year!! I want all of them 😩
ahahha they're all wonderful!
I sadly haven't read any of these this year.

ah i've never read watchmen but have heard amazing things!!!
If you ever get the chance to, I would suggest you do read it, even if comics aren't your most favorite genera of books.
actually, of fire and stars is getting a sequel! i was so happy when i heard :)
ah i found out that yesterday! it's actually a prequel with different characters, but i'm excited nonetheless!!
oh yes theres a prequel too! (i think its called inkmistress?) but theres been a sequel announced on goodreads as well from what ive seen :)
Thanks for so many awesome book recommendations! You had so many books on your list that I haven't heard of/haven't seen on any other list. I was making a to read list while watching your video 😊 oh and one of my favorites from 2017 was Geekerella 💖
UGH! You just added so many books to my TBR list. I'm such a slow reader that your recommendations are probably my entire 2018. haha.

I've been contributing to your transcriptions, and will soon move on to Spanish cc. It is honestly something that I didn't know I needed in my life. 😅
Just subscribed about a couple of weeks ago. I've been binge watching all your videos (as creepy as it sounds..), and you are amazing! Definitely my favorite booktuber! I've recently gotten back into reading after going through a rough time in my life, and I'm so happy I've found your channel. Keep on being amazing!

LOVE PAPERWEIGHT AND A LIST OF CAGES
Some of these are in my TBR and now I’m even more exited to read them
hope you enjoy :)
Of Fire And Stars *swoon*
Also, I am loving the poncho-esque sweater thing haha.
I still haven't read any Adam Silvera and I am beyond ashamed :/
Lord Of Shadowssssss such a fantastic book!!
thank you!
This video is so refreshing! I actually found new books through it and I am adding them to my wishlist!
so happy to hear it!
Seeing Of Fire and Stars makes me so happy. 2017 was the year I FINALLY made my best friend fall in love with reading again and she's currently reading it (she also LOVED the monsters of verity duology as well)
that's wonderful!!!
I’m curious about this book now!
thank you for sharing with me!! i hope it is something you can somewhat relate to
Lord Of Shadows was one of my favorites, I also really enjoyed Nevernight.
so hapy to hear it!
Queens of Geek was probably my favorite of 2017! I had never related to a book so much in my life and I still think about how much I love it constantly
ah that was a fun book!!!
I'm currently reading A list of Cages. Oml, I already know it's going to be my favourite. ❤ My favourite book, the one I read this year, is Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the Universe. It's pure gold. ❤
A LIST OF CAGES IS AMAZING
Thanks for making my wishlist and TBR even bigger
Kira Jeppesen trust me tmi gets way better I have read them all and the incest thing is not real trust me I know I have read them
Lexie Woodburne it does not matter it isn't real. I know what happens. But not just once did Cassandra think incest was cool, but twice. It may not be real, but both Clary and Jace thought they were siblings all the while they both are in love with eachother and that I just can't do... :)
i totally understand, her books aren't for everyone!!
War Cross reminds me of The Eye of Minds by James Dashner, they both seem to revolve around a virtual game with too many juicy plot twists
I ended up reading What I Lost on your recommendation on Monday and I finished the entire book in one day (which I haven't done in ages!) because I loved it so much! It was also nice to see a side character from Long Island because that never happens!
im so so happy you loved it!
YES I FEEL THE SAMEEE
Your TMI shelf is STUFFED. 😂 Loved your list! They're all books I've either read this year also or plan to read very soon!
IT IS hahahaha
Thank you for this video, I’m French and I was looking for English/American books to improve my vocabulary and now I want to read ALL the novels you presents in the video ❤️ (sorry if there is mistakes in my comment)
You're so happy and excited in this, now I want to read everything.
ahhahha
I’m actually taking notes of all the books to add them to my tbr soon 😂
ooh i hope you enjoy them!
“I am deceased. I am dead. This is my ghost speaking.” An accurate way of describing how everyone felt while reading Lord of Shadows. I love it. ♥️♥️
im sure someone has said this already but OF FIRE AND STARS IS GETTING A SEQUAL!! ! YAY
ah i'm so excited! it's actually a prequel so i'm sad no denna and mare :/ but still very very excited!!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Great list.... I really want to read: The Hate You Give, Warcross and Eliza And Her Monsters
THEYRE SO GOOD
I just finished The Nowhere Girls yesterday after picking it up based on your recommendation, and it immediately became one of my favorite books of the year. So powerful and well written!
so happy you loved it!!!!
I'm so glad you had such an amazing reading year! This year was probably my worst in terms of reading, but I'm hoping for some good books next year.
awh no, i hope you have a better reading year in 2018!
I read under rose tainted skies earlier this year and absolutely LOVED it.
so happy to hear it!!
