One of my favorites! Other favorites include The Astonishing Color of After, Sheets, A Monster Calls, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue!

these violent delights going into the dnf tier did make me gasp a little but when you explained your reasons I 100% get it, it’s one of my absolute favourite books but I would definitely struggle with the audiobook because there’s a lot to take in and even reading physically it took a while because I felt like I had to really savour each word because of how beautiful the writing is. I hope you have better luck reading it physically!!

These Violent Delights is very, very light fantasy, just thought I’d let you know before you go in to it with completely different expectations. There’s no magic system or anything, there’s just a magical element.
I thought it was supposed to be more fantasy and ended up disappointed!

I'm not sure if you were aware of this, but i wanted to bring it to your attention. there are a bunch of reviews online that can explain more about this !!!

I was doing some work while watching this video and I didn't expect that hour plus to fly by, but it really did.
But a couple thoughts: Chain of Iron's ending actually kinda disappointed me, but as a whole I really enjoyed it. And I agree that Malibu Rising wasn't my favorite of TJR's books but it was still wonderful.

The way I cackled during the City of Heavenly Fire portion 😂 Also, when I found out about 56 Days I told my wife that that could have been our relationship cuz I moved in with her at the beginning of lockdown in March 2020 and we had been dating for only three months by that point 😅 And now we’re married. But no one wants to read about that when they could read about a lockdown murder mystery lol

I think for Under the Whispering Door, the tagline of "Living a lifetime in seven days," both misrepresents the story and is a spoiler. That part literally doesn't happen until 70% in, so I don't understand why it's a part of the pitch. All you need to know is it is like The House in the Cerulean Sea, but instead of an inspector and a supernatural orphanage, it's a scrouge-like ghost and a ferryman of souls. They are both soft cozy books about bureaucratic businessmen with no real human connections who find themselves in a small town with a man who lives a slower, more quiet life. And both find love and what gives life meaning. Under the Whispering Door reminded me a bit of Spiritfarer (the game) and a bit of The Tea Dragon Society, and a dash of A Christmas Carole. Go in knowing this is a soft, low tension, cozy book. I loved it as much as The House in the Cerulean Sea, and I firmly believe that the description gave people the wrong expectation. I somehow managed to not read the description before starting the book so it wasn't until I was writing my review that I saw that they spoil the 3rd act conflict in the pitch of the book. I haven't read Leave the World Behind, but I think it suffered similarly from poor pitching leading to unfulfilled expectations.

I definitely would have placed These Violent Delights and One Last Stop in the same place that you did. I am actually doing it now in my reading journal, because that is one of the things I do it, tier lists. It wasn't that I dnfed or disliked These Violent Delights, I gave it four stars, because I thought there was a lot of strengths. The characters, the writing and even the development of the story itself. It just that I thought the reveals were weak at the end of it, it was definitely one of those books that didn't need to be a duology and could have easily been a standalone, and lastly it made me realise how deeply I do not care for investigative mysteries. So, yeah I put it in the you're done category, also because I did dnf it as a series. I though put Malibu Rising in If You Wonder If I Hate You, I Do, because I did hate that book. I hated how it was written, I felt none of the characters were fleshed out, and Mick Rivers who I felt was a fine character in Evelyn Hugo felt two dimensional to me here, and I hated how the fire was set because it felt like a cop-out, especially with how it was built up in the premise and in the beginning of the book.
