  • My dear pipe friends all over the world,
    as promised this is the 2nd part of my presentation of my pipe collection: My VAUEN pipes of Germany. By the way, VAUEN was NOT founded in 1884 as told in the video (7:18), but in 1848 - the story suffered from a number turnaround at that point - sorry about that!
    In this film alexander Eckert introduces himself and the pipe factory VAUEN on the "Inter Tabak"- pipe- tradeshow 2011 in Dortmund/Germany: • Intertabak 2011 Dortmu...
    Have fun while watching!

    Thanks for this very informative video. I just bought my first Vauen from the Davidoff store in Basel. CHF 150.-, not too pricy for here, for a quality pipe that is. Beautifully made in Nuremberg, Germany, 9mm charcoal filter half apple design, pre-charred bowl. I just smoked with it,.....perfect! It compares close with the quality of my Savinelli or Rattray I think. I saw the dot and thought Dunhill, glad you explained that.

    Hello David, my friend! I smoked my Vauen 270 ( C. Borontini design) as I enjoyed this video in your series. In it, I smoked Dan Tobacco Sweet Vanilla Honeydew. Thank you for the history lesson and for showing your beautiful collection, my friend. Your friend in Alaska - Emile

    Hi Eric,
    thanx for commenting! I hope, everything is fine with your place again.
    I researched the P- Lip- thing and you are right: The patent was remarced in Ireland by Peterson, therefore P- (-eterson) Lip! I don't know, why this can be used by Vauen without problems. I think the protection deadline must be over which is some 70 ys. in musical scores for example here in Germany. I'll pass you a link per pm, if you don't mind.
    Take care and be well, the silverfox, David

    Wonderful information. I was looking for information about the Vauen pipe because I bought one on EBay from a seller in Darmstadt. It is described as Premium smooth bent tulip and has the word Premium on the shank as well as the numbers 073 and the letter B. It also has the white dot on the stem. I have not been able to find this model on the Internet and was hoping you might know. Again, thank you for the most informative video.

      +oxlopez as far as I know the B- models are not shown on the websites of VAUEN - don't ask me why - anyway congrats, I think you made a good choice! Sorry, I am afraid I can't help in that concern. Thanx for stopping by, take care and be well! The silverfox, David

    Hi mate,
    I don't know this pipe precisely, but I heard about it of friends who say it's a good pipe. I usually don't smoke giants. I only got a few, but I think that the Vauen giant 416 will fulfill your wishes propperly. The sweetest tobacco I ever smoked was the black luxury of danske club - pure black cavendish. I am sure you will achieve your aromatic target with that stuff.
    Take care and be well,

    I am new to pipe smoking and I wanted to ask you a question about a Vauen pipe that I would like to purchase soon. It is a Vauen Giant G 419. I found this pipe on amazon .com Do you have any experience smoking this pipe? I want a large pipe with a deep curve so it will rest in my teeth more comfortably and not be too far out from my face. And lastly what tobacco has the sweetest or most flavorful room note that you have smoked? I am desperately trying to find the perfect blend for me. Thanks

    I just bought a very inexpensive Vauen ($60) but it's all I can really afford... I quite like it :-) I know it is machine made, but no problems so far! How would you go about looking for flaws if there are any? Thanks.

    • @mercster
      @mercster 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW it is a bent sandblasted acorn shape 4300.

    • @maturefox1
      @maturefox1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest: I can't really think of flaws concerning my VAUEN- pipes - all of the ones I have got are flawless and cool smokers. That means in clear words: I am a real fan of these pipes!

    • @mercster
      @mercster 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maturefox1 Yes I have had a good first experience with it.. it is very light, which I like... fits together well... it burns a little hot so far but that is my fault being a newbie :-) Also need to build up some cake. How do you feel about the 9mm filters? I bought a box of 100, but also bought an "adapter" in case I don't want to use them. The draw is certainly a lot more restricted with the filter in place. Any thoughts there? Thanks for your generous reply!

    • @maturefox1
      @maturefox1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mercster When I smoke without filter, it will always an exeption - I am a radical filter- smoker. This is very established here in Germany. Sometimes I smoke Latakia- blends without filter, but only in very small bowls and packed very tightly. cause I need a certain draw- restistance, to feel well with it. At the end of the day I think everybody has "to kill his own tiger", as we say here in Germany - this is simply a matter of personal taste. The thing is, it takes its time, to develop this personal taste and that's why one should take the time for this development. Have fun with it and take care and be well! ;)

    • @mercster
      @mercster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maturefox1 I think you are right. It is easier for me to keep the pipe lit without the filter, but at the same time, I want that restriction. It will just take me time to get used to the pace of it. Thanks again my Deutsch friend.

    Thanks for sharing, David! I learned much about Vauen in this video -- I had no idea about their 'white dot rivalry'. There are some amazing pieces here.
    I've been to Nürnberg with my wife in 2010. The Christkindlesmarkt was wonderful!
    I noticed that some of your Vauens have p-lips on them. I thought that Peterson had patented that in the early 20th century? Or does that not apply in International law? I'm pretty ignorant about such things.
    Peace,
    Eric

    Hallo,
    ein sehr informative und interssantes Video. Aber schade dass du Nürnberg nur auf 12 Jahre Nazizeit reduzierst. Nürnberg ist im Ausland bestimmt auch durch Rostbratwurst, Glühwein, mittelalterliche Geschichte und den Cristkindelmarkt bekannt und wenn nicht, meine ich ist das erwähneswerter. Nichts für ungut!

    Hey David, I lean quit a bit from that .I bought a new Vauen army mount bulldog stained finished just last week . From Smoking Pipes .com here in the USA and the pipe has a white dot can you shed some light on that Thanks Mike NJ

      HI Mike! ;)
      This can actually only be a private import of "Smoking pipes.com"the other possibility is that I am not on the latest update of the matter, but actually white dots may not be sold in America without permission of Dunhill. Maybe there is permitting contract meanwhile. To be honest I don't know ....! (?)

    You will need to study your pipe shapes a little closer……….
    Bulldog…..shank is a diamond shape only.
    Rhodesian……cylindrical shank only.
    Lots of wasted time on this video. First two minutes inaccurate.

    • @maturefox1
      @maturefox1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ... exhale, my dear! You breathe too much and too deeply!
      If this is really right with the shapes, I learnt something - thank you in that case! But you should know one evident thing, because of which I think you were too quick with evaluation of this video: There is absolutely no historical source that can proof a clear shape to these two words "rhodesian" or "bulldog". This is all a matter of pure interpretation. The origin of this kinda shape is located in France of the outgoing 19th century, when the French pipe producers tried to industrialize the pipe production, because it was thought to be kinda "chique" and "modern" in those times, to do it that way. So, how these shapes are called is an object of a sort of useless dispute.
      B.t.w.: Nobody is forced, to watch my vids anyway - so save your time and my nerves, ha ha ha! Concerning the first two minutes: It is tradition in the IYTPS at that time, to tell the people what you are smoking currently and in what pipe you are currently having your baccy.
      So take care and be well and keep doing your research homework slightly more accurately, when you intend to let everybody know that your knowledge is in the best thinkable case obviously just of half low level.
      Best regards, the silver fox, David😉🦊
