    we do continuous pruning from about 9 feet down to 3 feet.. whenever it gets above arm´s reach, just keep pruning it. You get a bush that is mucch easier to harvest from.

    Your Moringa is not producing any seed pods because you keep pruning them down. If you want seed pods and flowers, you must leave your trees to grow for 1 full year from date of pruning. Then it will produce Seed Pods and Flowers

      I belive he said it dies back due to freezing so if he isn't pruning then he risks the whole tree dying in the frost. He got frost up until March!

    I bought moringa seeds and planted a bunch of them (zone 7a). I now have 5 little moringa trees each about a half-foot tall. So exciting!
    I can't yet eat the leaves, so in the meantime I take fermented moringa tablets. I'm still waiting for a really noticeable, remarkable improvement in health, but I'll keep trying and look forward to having my own supply of fresh moringa from trees.

    Excellent short video on the Moringa Tree! Ours in SW FL is 25' tall and we have more leaves (and seeds) than we use ourselves so we give some away. We dry and make a powder out of the leaves which we add to many dishes.

      Karl Becker Thanks, Karl. We dry the powder too. It's really easy thanks to the thinness of the leaves.

    Ok, you've convinced me to grow moringa. We live in Texas and are blessed/cursed with a West-facing backyard. Great sunlight for growing, but that side of the house and the garage are almost unbearably hot in the Summertime. We've been researching fast-growing trees to mitigate the problem.
    So, since moringa grows so fast, and has such profound health benefits, would it make sense to plant several along our back fence for a little shade? From your video, it looks like it would provide dappled shade rather than so much shade we couldn't grow food in our backyard. We could provide a heavy mulch layer over the Winter to keep it alive. Does this sound like it would work to you?
    Thanks for all you do. I'm learning so much from you. ~ Lisa

    I have not had any luck starting from seeds. But you said something i did not think about. May be the seeds can not be started in good soil? Not sure what the issue is. glad you said how fast they grow. I did not know they grow so fast. Thank you :) have a awesome day.

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tammy Williams Seeds don't stay viable for very long: your seeds are probably too old. They'll sprout in good soil or bad soil, though wet soil will cause them and the seedlings to rot.

    • @jynxxnerd
      @jynxxnerd 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tammy Williams I have to disagree about the viability. I bought some seeds at least 3 years ago that I never got around to sprouting until a couple weeks ago. I soaked them in water for about 24 hours, then sealed them in a tupperware container with a wet paper towel and left them in a window sill. Almost all of them sprouted within a couple days.

    what frozen temperature you have in northern Florida. I really wanted to grow one here in metro Vancouver BC, the lowest freezing temperature can reach to -5. Do you think I can plant this super food in our place?

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where I was in Florida would hit 12 degrees Fahrenheit overnight, every few years. Usually more like 20 degrees F. You can grow moringa where you are as an annual - plant the seeds and they'll get at least 5-6 foot tall and give you plenty of leaves before winter kills them.

    We lost all of ours two winters ago. The winter was really hard here in SW Louisiana. I wonder if it was that all of them were from cuttings. We got some seeds from the Philippines this year and they are growing very well .Best wishes Bob.

      +Bob Lt Thanks, Bob. I hope they pull through. The roots seem to be a lot stronger on seed-grown moringa for sure - cover 'em up well for the cold and I'll bet some pull through. You can see how I protect mine in my other video on frost protection. th-cam.com/video/XkZYCgSvxew/w-d-xo.html

    I'm trying to grow Moringa in NC (zone 7B) and have a question about setting seeds. You said yours don't set seeds in northern FL. How long a season does it need to set pods? Do you think bringing indoors a couple of plants in pots in the fall would give them a long enough growing season to set seed pods? Thank you.

    • @melissab8500
      @melissab8500 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have one out of 7 that sets seeds, and it sets seeds every year (it's 4 years old) it bloomed in April and it's now August and the seed pods are about 15 inches long and pulling the whole tree sideways. It used to concern me but we do this every year. I used to try to stake it upright but it seems to want to lean. It's also the only moringa I have that's only 5' tall

    • @kathyyoung1774

      @@melissab8500 That's great! Where are you? What zone? I"m near Raleigh, NC, and I know the cold will kill them outside here by Nov. The stems are flimsy, and I often have to stake some of the little seedlings until they get bigger. I have lots of little ones (smaller than 5 feet) so far, but I just found seeds to plant this spring. So they're only a few months old. Do you "harvest" the top third of them for the leaves or just let them grow?

    • @melissab8500
      @melissab8500 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kathyyoung1774I'm in northern Central Florida, zone 8. so far I've just been letting them grow they've stayed around 7-8 ' tall. This year though, wow! Not sure why but they're all around 12'. I'll have to cut them down for the winter soon. We had the longest sustained cold in a long time last winter. It was 21° 4 nights in a row 🤷‍♀️ maybe that had something to do with it

      @@melissab8500 Thank you for the feedback. I lived in Gainesville for 36 years (zone 9) and recently met someone who grows it there all year. I suppose weather affects the yearly growth, as well as age. I'm hoping to get some to grow long enough to set seeds and become sustainable. One of my friends has just been diagnosed wtih stage 4 cancer, no treatment possible, and we read that moringa has cured cancer in lab mice, so I'm growing lots of it for her, too. She's using that and colloidal silver. Do you dehydrate the leaves and stems when you cut them down?

    • @melissab8500
      @melissab8500 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kathyyoung1774 I'd be happy to send you some seeds of the one I've got that flowers early 🤔 or a few cuttings. I just hang it upside down with a sheet under it, all the leaves fall off easily after a day or two, then I finish in the oven or outside depending on the weather. I've heard that about moringa vs cancer, it's one of the reasons I started growing it-just in case. Look into fasting/ no-carb vs cancer also. I hope it lives up to it's name for your friend

    I planted one 8 months ago. Its grown pretty well but has stopped growing up after about 8 feet. How long did they take to grow up to 20+ like you have in the video?

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +mrd05d Depends on your climate. They really don't grow much at all any time the weather dips below the 70s. If it's nice and hot out and there's plenty of rain, they grow like crazy. Mine would hit 20' from April - October every year, then do absolutely nothing (except sometimes freeze to the ground) during the other months.
