    I like the gardening tips, but I stay for the music. As for the "thumbs down", it must be due to some kind of defect. Who doesn't like Moringa propagation info, followed by a snappy melody?

      They are but they have a taste that not everyone can agree with; people usually will dry out the leaves and grind them to a power to add to drinks, food, or take as is. It's got boat-loads of good stuff in it.

    I've been watching your videos for a while and I haven't come across what country you're in now.? I grew up gardening in WI, struggled with it in FL, and am now doing pretty well with it in TN. But.. Changing zones can be a real fun challenge. Love your videos!

    Moringa is very hardy. Ours have through he'll and still come back. We are getting ready to transplant ours. Thanks for the info, we will now try to place them near our garden and in our soon to be orchard.

    I tried growing these from seed during the winter and even zone 10 All rotten. Going to try again in a few weeks. I heard these moringa can double breast milk production.

    You need to plant 2 feet inside the soil. Only a small tip must be left above ground. Then the roots will be a lot stronger

    David, purchased 4 of your books-love them.
    Question: I am in N. Florida and had planted two Moringa trees. They made it through one winter, but this winter was brutal and they froze. How close to the ground do I need to cut my new trees to over winter them? Thanks.

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Taller is better. I cut mine at about 3' so I could wrap them in wire and straw to protect them. If I could have gone taller easily, I would have. More trunk = faster regrowth and more leaves the next year, in my experience.

    Just started a bunch of seeds and three cuttings. The cuttings had leaves after less than a week in the ground. The seedlings are 4-5 inches high in 5 days from planting.
    Now to figure out how/where to plant them to get the goats to not kill them before they can get established.

      if you can get seed from it and constantly grow the seeds and keep the ones that the cold wont kill- breed THOSE together- in a few years (like 7) you may have yourself a Moringa variety designed for your climate XD

    I beg to differ on the account of growing over-a-year-old Moringa Seeds; I have 3 varieties of Moringa and the hard-nut varieties (I think you've got one) seem to keep longer in an airtight storage. I've held onto old seed I got from some North FL farmers, and here 2 years alter I still sprouted those seeds this year. I even accidentally proved it to myself whenIi stepped on a stray 2y/o seed and the meat inside was still white and plump like it had just been freshly-stored. I guess it's a matter of humidity, temp, wtc.

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's good to know. I had mine quit at around a year and had to buy more. They might have been old when I got them, though.

    I ordered moringa seeds 2 months ago and they never showed, so, I ordered some more and they should be here 2 months from now. Hopefully, I will get them, get them growing before winter arrives.

    Im having alot of trouble getting my seeds to sprout. You answered two of the reasons they might not be sprouting. I bought a thousand off of amazon, but who knows how old they are. Its also been unseasonably cool in Texas this year.

    I got my seeds in the spring of one year planted some and then refrigerated them in my crisper. I have sense replanted (one year later) them this spring and they seem to be doing well. So maybe if you store them properly they will last longer and still be viable.

    • @davidthegood

    I just watched your video, because a friend is wanting a clipping from my Moringa tree. Did you ever post the results of planting that branch versus the seeds? I’d like a link to it if you wouldn’t mind sharing it!

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dry season got so dry it killed them both; however, I have done enough side by side to be convinced that seeds are better. Branches are good for living fence posts, though.

  • @edwardleroy7648
    @edwardleroy7648 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would Moringa work in a micro climate zone as far as being able to keep it contained and still furnish plant material? The Moringa seed that I planted years ago did not survive.

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. They grow very fast from seed. You can even grow them as annuals.

  • @BradGryphonn
    @BradGryphonn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey David, is Moringa a Nitrogen fixer (legume)? We have a plant in Australia (introduced) that has a similar leaf pattern and seed that was planted on cattle paddocks as a natural fodder. Problem is, like the paperbark (I think) that was introduced from Australia to Florida, it grows too well over here. It's everywhere! EDIT: No, different plant. The one I'm thinking of has a pod. I know the name, and I'll probably edit again later when it comes to me.

    • @BradGryphonn
      @BradGryphonn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Joseph. I'm still trying to remember the name of this plant here. It's on the tip of my tongue. OH YES! Leucaena! Hre's a link: www.business.qld.gov.au/industries/farms-fishing-forestry/agriculture/land-management/health-pests-weeds-diseases/weeds-diseases/invasive-plants/other/leucaena

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, leucaena is a really good nitrogen fixer.

    • @BradGryphonn
      @BradGryphonn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, and a good food source for cattle and sheep, but they spread like wildfire here. Oh, and thanks for the videos, David. I moved from the tropics of Far North Queensland (Florida [edit: Jamaica] type weather I think) down to the Capital City, Brisbane; more of a subtropical to temperate zone. I'll be here for a few more years before I head back up to the land of the gods.
