Watching you have to dig ale the different bolts out of the containers gave me an idea. What about using 1 gallon paint strainer bags to put all the small parts in to make removal easier, and then you can keep the cleaning solution in the sealed containers.

I use vinegar or citric acid (LemiShine) for removing rust in my ultrasonic cleaners. If I have rusty items that need to be degreased, I'll use a citrus based degreaser like Zeps citrus degreaser.
Using an ultrasonic, be careful with cleaning items like ball joints, heim joints, bearings or any other item that is designed to move against something else. The cavitation caused by the ultrasonic cleaner puts microscopic pits in the surfaces and can cause more problems in that piece later, causing them to seize faster.
(edit) acids are used to chemically remove rust. Coke, Pepsi, CLR, Evaporust, they're all acidic.

Thanks for the tip sand cautions. The Heim joints that I put in here were just for the ends of a turnbuckle type deal... a support rod. Once in place they don't actually rotate, it's just an easy way to get alignment... but what you are saying makes sense.

This iPhone idea hits an interesting point !
And it didn't even got answered by youtube yet.
I always wondered, if ultrasonic cleaners would do harm to electronic components or even detach modern ball soldered processors.
Could never try such stuff at work and don't have a powerful ultrasonic cleaner at home. Mine doesn't do any harm - too weak.
But if i buy a better one, which is on my wishlist, i'd be interested in cleaning electronic circuit boards as well as engine parts.
Even if i plan to clean only automotive parts, i'm in great danger ⚠
Almost everywhere electronic circuits are hiding these days.
In 25 years old Ford Diesel engines the immobilizer is located inside the High Pressure Pump unit, for instance - and not only that - the ECU for controlling the pump is inside this pump, too.
And it's not buried in epoxy, just rubber sealed. You cannot detach it - it's hard wired to the internal sensors.
Even if it were epoxied - which would take away the repair option - who garanties, that 30 year old epoxy don't get cracks from powerful ultrasonic cleaners?
      That's an interesting problem field.
The Electronic Control Units inside these older Ford Direct injection Diesel Pumps are prone to breaking some tiny wires anyhow some day - and shutting down the engine at this moment.
Although overall they are in fact more reliable than younger Diesels, this problem must be kept in mind.
Otherwise, in the case of a failure through careless approach you may throw away several thousand $ or Euro at the dealership - and in spite of that maybe end up selling a non starter cheaply - depending on the capability and knowledge of the diagnosing technician.
So - can i clean automotive components with hidden electronics or must i not do this ?
But try not to ruin your real work life to find out, or not, for youtube clicks.
We have recession times ahead and youtube's ad revenue gets more worthless day after day by default in a recession. A system problem.
Keep your vegetable garden, maybe get one, keep your paid work.

@@werner.x While there may be some practicality to it, my hope / expectations are for a spectacular and catastrophic failure to occur. That would make the best video 🤣. I have an old iPhone to test that has some issues, that I wouldn't be sad about if it exploded.
I'm guessing that circuits that were powered down /discharged, and cleaned in the proper cleaning solution would be safe. I don't know a lot about it, but from what I have heard, the 40 khz range is pretty safe on most things, even if it is powerful.
Wow... an immobilizer inside the pump... That would be an interesting test for sure... It would take a heck of a lot of work. One would have to remove a known working pump, cleaning it in the cleaner thoroughly, reinstall and test. Yes... it's unlikely that TH-cam will be my salvation directly... As of now, the revenu is not enough to pay to make the videos, let alone make a profit...
Absolutely. I have been busy booking service calls for this upcoming season. I have planted potatoes, carrots, broccoli and lettuce before... I was surprised at how well they did with very little effort.

Most of the cleaning power of pepsi and coke is the dissolved CO2. when you pour it out/use ultrasonic, it creates nucleation sites where CO2 is released back into the air. If you wanted to do a good test, i would keep the vessel pressurized so the CO2 isnt released out of solution.

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  ปีที่แล้ว

I had considered this and wondered if anyone would mention it. Also, I wonder if that's why the coke initially seemed to work really well, but then fell behind.
It could be quite the challenge keeping containers of soda sealed for this testing. I guess, if I used 500ml bottles, maybe litre bottles, I could drop bolts in, resealthem and put then in the cleaner.
