G'day Robert, Wicked feedback mate. I have also been with Dobinson's for nearly four years. Its great gear, thats for sure. Thanks for your reply mate.. Cheers Tim.
Thanks for sharing Tim. Ride comfort the same or better when not laden? My MT Jeep has this same narrow diff issue (40 mm a side) apparently for better cornering but bothers you for ever when you noticed it.
G'day mate, It would be a bit hard the ride as is. But once all the accessories are installed, which is what it's been set up for. The ride will be heaps better. I didn't know the Jeep had a narrow rear diff as well. Thanks for your reply and feedback mate. Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures MT is for Mahindra Thar witch you can find in your country as well but not road worthy due to safety concerns. The farmers must love it. Cheers!
What about the front/rear track difference. I admire Toyo for persisting for live axles front and rear, but they are a terrible rip off considering the amount that needs to be spent to really be able to use them for their intended purpose.
G'day mate, Yeah i don't know how Toyota were allowed to put the V8 70 Series on the road with the 100mm narrower rear diff. It's a pain to drive in soft sand and clay ruts, and about $5k to fix it if you want to do it properly. Thanks for checking out the video and your feedback mate. Cheers Tim.
Another thing that could be worth upgrading is the rear axle, which is not only lighter duty than the ones on its troopy and ute cousins, but also narrower than the front axle.
Gday mate, Yeah that’s one big issue with the V8 70 series. That narrow diff. I don’t know how Toyota we’re allowed to make them like that, and get them on the road. Thanks for your reply mate Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures hi, Tim! So in a video taken a while ago, when asked about potential future widening of 70s' rear axles, Toyota's boss seems to have rejecteded such proposal outright by saying that there's no need for it. I guess it's true to a degree given that the time a 70 series would spend on sand or soft mud would be almost negligible compared to their extraordinary lifespans. Their accounting department may also find it difficult to justify a redesign of one component that's been deemed unnecessary. But yeah I hate corner cutting like this, too.
Siccontyre de Fiddiutz Gday mate, For that Toyota boss to say there’s no need to widen the rear diff. Clearly he doesn’t drive one off the bitumen. I’ve never driven one. But I know plenty of people with them. Maybe that boss should go for drive with one of those people off road in sand, mud etc and see what he reckons. Thanks heaps mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
No suspension alignment required? I would have thought that the fitment of the offset bushes and the replacement adjustable panhard rod would have warranted getting a steering realignment and road test to ensure it is tracking correctly.
It is a shame that when you buy a new 4x4 that the suspension needs upgrading to use it. Common to most 4x4. I had to replace my suspension with Lovells GVM upgrade on my brand new pre registered Dmax because it was going to be a tourer build. GVM now 3600kg GCM 7000kg, way more than stock but not wanting to be at my new GVM but around the oem GVM weights after my build. Plenty of reserved load carrying capacity with no intention of using. Les stress on the upgraded Lovells suspension.
G'day Steve, Spot on mate. The standard setup's on most new four wheel drives just aren't up for what we plan to use them for as a solid tourer around the country. Good idea what you have done and how you plan to use the extra load carrying capacity of your new DMax. You have that extra carrying if you need it. Thanks heaps mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Silly question Batesy does this upgrade etc have any effect on the Warranty...given the work was not done by a Toyota dealer ?? This will be a great rig to drive by the way !! BTW your mates obviously know what they are doing!! Great work as always mate...very wet up here..nearly another inch of rain !!
G'day Craig, No question is ever a silly one mate. Im not sure on that. I've never heard of new cars having warranty issues with suspension. Mainly only been with engine mods if anything. It will be a good rig once it's ready to hit the highway. Yeah mate, they do a top job at Dandy. It's a tad wet on my side at the moment. Maybe a bit of snow coming for the long weekend. Do you mean the 76 has got mechanical issues?
