Sweet guide. Handy tip for targeting for any dumb or GPS guided weapon. Don't target the object (plane, tank, school bus full of orphans) directly, target the ground *under* the object. The targeting pod only sees it's internal map, not the object you are looking at. So it "sees through" the object in a direct line to the ground. If you center the TP on the object, you are actually targeting the ground behind the object, so bring your SPI down a bit, about level with where the wheels or whatever is touching the ground. You'll be much more accurate that way, especially from long distance, and can hold target accurately while maneuvering much better, too! This video is a perfect example of how the TP is looking through the object to the ground behind it. Notice how it is targeting behind the targets as you approach closer, and the angle of the line of sight is changing. After a bit of practice, you can fine tune it in your head to estimate the actual center point of the target relative to the ground surprisingly accurately.
If you have the same amount of targets (or more) as your amount of bombs you can also save/program your markpoints coordinates in the JDAM "mission menu" so that you can pickle them all at the same time (I recommend a short drop interval instead of literally dropping 8 bombs parallel due to possible air collision and suicide). This is can be a lot faster on the bomb run because you don't have to designate and pickle 8 times one after another. And it is epic to watch 8 JDAMs/JSOWs impact at the same time.
Nice tutorial! To avoid readjusting the markpoints I'd suggest to always target the wheels/tracks of the vehicles initially - they contact the ground in these points thus they won't move much with your view aspect changing. Most of people place the marker on a center of mass (like for a point track), but markpoints have no idea about the targets you are looking at, they are getting data from an area track. Also, as a personal practice I always try to use my IP as markpoint - this way if something goes wrong (or e.g. you work with JTAC, and he gave you the IP and asks for reattack with the same IP) I can get to the same IP even with autopilot, while focusing on other things (e.g. weapons systems preparations or monitoring the target area for threats). To drop a markpoint at your current location you just push the markpoint button on HSI without any designated target. Also, I'm lazy so I did map the buttons to my HOTAS similar to A10C for markpoint creation and selection, so all process becomes mouse-free, same as on a Hog.
"not Scott Manley" 😂 Nicely put together tutorial. Been a while out of Hornet, can you reuse those 10 MP's? I usually use whole alphabet in the warthog. Also don't often see the pilot body it does add a bit extra to experience. One day hopefully see it animated to the extent if you move head camera axis right to look switches, arms with tuck in a bit accordingly.
That's the best tutorial I have found from now regarding this way of designate! Clear, well explained...I would rather say...Straight to the point! Thanks for your good job !
that rather old mfd interface has its own mindset, somehow was lost in getting the stuff working, your videos help a lot. otherwise there is no proper handbook for weapons operations showing what to press when and how. maybe even start the video with loading the weapons type. question: what view control type do you use? is this VR?
There is a TikTok of a driver with Greg’s courier pushing a white golf down the highway in Britain. He was an insulate Britain fanatic. Obviously thought maverick was the driver of the truck.
Hi, did you bind to your Hotas (in particular to your VPC throttle) any command just like W/B Hot, Wide/Narrow view, MarkPoint, WaypointDesignation? If yes, what hatswitch did you use? Thank you
How would this work with the new ATFLIR pod as well I assume you would have to wait to move to M2 etc if using laser designation. Good explanation as always.
Hi Mav! Great vid as always. I just picked up the new version of the Colimata Concorde. Can you consider making a new tutorial showcasing its new features? Thanks

You make the cleanest, non-fluff tutorials. Thank you.
I followed this exactly, I’m now 200 miles past my target…
Thanks for the help! Perfect explanation 😎
😂
You're not Scott Manley, you're the manly Scot! Thanks Mav, been pounding my head trying to figure this out and you nailed it!
Very well done instruction!! Good meter for those of us who don’t learn well from instructors talking 100 mph. Thank you!!!
Always a pleasure to watch a f%^&ing trained professional at work :)
Very well explained Mav. I'm now looking forward to having a go at this myself.
Just came across your channel. You make some of the most concise well explained DCS tutorials I’ve yet seen. Thank you!

what is IP
@@erfguuipo8084 Initial point of the attack, typically given to you by JTAC

AFAIK sir you can use them yes but I'm assuming that you just replace the original ones, so you probably only have 9 stored MPs.
Complete, clear and right to the point. Great tutorial.
Glad it helped, thanks!
@@104thMaverickThank you for your content. Very helpful actually.
Excellent job! Clear, consise and to the point! Appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!
nice work lord buster
It's nice to see some new tutorial content from you! Cheers!
More to come, thanks!
That's the best tutorial I have found from now regarding this way of designate! Clear, well explained...I would rather say...Straight to the point! Thanks for your good job !

The Mav the myth the legend. Thanks Mav. Please consider a tutorial on A/A Radar wizardry that I always see you doing in the hornet.
I'll put it on the list brother
You were great as Dr Carson on Stargate Atlantis......
What a nice Guide man, thank you very much for that. Especially that you also called out the keybindings in a way was a brilliant idea :)
Excellent guide, as always! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video, have added it to my F/A-18 playlist for furture reference. Thanks.
Great job
Awesome guide, thanks! Never knew how to use them. Very clear!
Glad I could help!
Nice video... I had no idea this was even an option.
WoW…. You are a machine!! I like your vids.
another great tutorial. Thanks for creating and sharing it.
Glad you liked it!
In my 200 hours flying the F18 I somehow managed to miss this vital feature 🤦♂️ Really appreciate the video bud. Salute
Love your videos. Thank you!
Awesome! Dropping gems bro.. Great content.

Oh, Mav! Scott Manley?
BTW, Is it possible to make a mark point with the HMCS? Just look, designate, then mark the point?
Not possible with HMCS brother

Super 👍 Thank you
Crackin vid Mav, cheers!
Thanks brother
Great stuff! Thanks.
My pleasure!
Thanks champ!
JDAMS are so cool!
YES
Fantastic cheers mate!
You’re welcome brother
not scott manley got me good😂
Hi, did you bind to your Hotas (in particular to your VPC throttle) any command just like W/B Hot, Wide/Narrow view, MarkPoint, WaypointDesignation? If yes, what hatswitch did you use? Thank you
I use the small thumb 4 way hat switch mate under the big one that’s at the top of the throttle
I don't know if this is a bug or not but I found out the hard way before that I can only program Mark Points if SEQ1 under HSI is unboxed.
How would this work with the new ATFLIR pod as well I assume you would have to wait to move to M2 etc if using laser designation. Good explanation as always.
This is with the atflir dumb dumb
Nice video Mav… you ffing buster!!!
Thanks 😁
Hi Mav! Great vid as always. I just picked up the new version of the Colimata Concorde. Can you consider making a new tutorial showcasing its new features? Thanks
I’m going to try and find time over Xmas to do it friend
Appreciate it!
Can you teach me everything, so clean on how to do stuff..
But one question, do you use VR?
I use TrackIR brother not VR
Tnx bro
How much does your setup cost for flying heli on arma 3?
Less than $100
Great video thx. Warheads on foreheads 😂
