Well, I didn't see the movie but from the small pieces Chris shows us I get the feeling that whoever made this "The movie is for women" claim should go and see a psychologist. Seriously, that's just so fucked up. Why should I enjoy this bad movie? Just because I'm female? Do women not care about good plots, characters and acting? It just doesn't make any sense.
Fun fact: This was filmed in my city's university. Specifically, Otago University in Dunedin, New Zealand. I even know a couple people who signed on to be extras within this film. It was pretty cool to have a Blumhouse movie being filmed in our little corner of the world. Then the movie came and went with no one in my city caring or talking about it. Yeah, when even the city you filmed the movie in (let alone a city that's NEVER had a movie of this scale being produced) doesn't care about your film, you know you screwed up somewhere.
Kind of off topic, but that point that Chris made: "If you have protagonists who do nothing but talk about how much their lives suck, it gets annoying, boring, and it's hard to root for them if they don't make any attempts at helping themselves." That point made me realize a major flaw I had in a story I was writing. Thank you Chris for pointing that out.

You can't do that if you adopt a group identity or have one put on you. Drop the labels, treat everyone with the same base level of respect, and treat everyone as their own person. As soon as she realised that he might actually win the argument, she planted a major digression that made it all about his 'tone' or attitude, and no longer about the subject matter.
Im guessing for certain victims it might be an enjoyable fantasy to escape into for a bit even if they know it isn't healthy... maybe. Mostly I think its for people who mistake "girls rule, men suck" as feminism. This is not a feminist film or fantasy. This is just a bad movie that almost definitely did more harm than good in actually bringing about productive conversations and any kind of positive progression.

The Invisible Man tackled all of the same issues that this movie tackles but does an infinitely better job. It also handles it with much more subtlety, as while it never flat out says that Adrian raped Cecilia (nor does it even overtly mention rape or sexual assault), you get a sense that that is the case when she says that he would hit her "among other things". There's also the fact that she's easy to relate to and identify with, which you can't say for any of the characters in this movie. Most of all, it's actually scary; the scene where Adrian's breath appears behind Cecilia is far more terrifying than anything that happens in this movie. It's ironic, since there's so much insistince that stories like this need to be told by women and The Invisible Man was written and directed by a man.

I loved Get Out. At first I was afraid of it being very preachy. But i don't believe it was. The plot was so interesting. Jordan Peele actually came out and said a lot of people believed he was pushing against your typical white conservative. But he said the film was directed more toward a white SJW. A lot of times (SOME) liberal, SJW types will treat black people, or people of any other race as some prize or rare animal.

I agree, but I couldn't really side with anyone aside from Riley and his girlfriend (in a couple of her points). He even filmed that performance, he doesn't have the right to all of a sudden play the victim card and if he does it needs to be developed more (was there a scene where he expressed discomfort at what the girls were doing?).
That scene was just... mind boggling in its stupidity. He presents a completely sound argument and gets shut down by "men have power" and "not all men." I knew this film was awful but I didn't think it'd be so brazenly incompetent as to put a scene like that in there.

I’m a feminist woman who watched this for the first time last night and I despised it. It had absolutely no subtlety and I felt the message got lost in offensively stereotypical characters (both the men and the women) and I agree with you on feeling spoon fed. I don’t think any other movie has insulted my intelligence quite like this one did. I was honestly surprised to see it was a female director. I’ve actually never seen the original (something I will be correcting soon) but even still I said out loud “there’s no way this is anything like the original.” It was awful. I thought Imogen’s acting was great for what she had to work with and that’s literally the only nice thing I can think to say about this film lol. Oh and I wondered the same thing about those other frat guys at the end! The ones who had no idea what they were even doing. Poor guys!

I’ve talked to people who talk like that and it’s some of the most confusing and frustrating conversation I’ve ever had. There’s no actual dialectic happening. They say some prescribed comment then scan your response for tripwires you hit that they can attack you for. Nothing gets learned, no understanding is made, and it ends with them being angry at you.

It's really disheartening to see movies like this. Feminism was supposed to be about women becoming EQUAL to men. But now it just feels like a bunch of bullies are taking out their hatred on all guys-not just the ones who are legitimately horrible, but innocent men who probably abhor misogyny-and they're hiding under the feminist movement so that people don't call them out. Black Christmas is a prime example of this. I, for one, am tired of the whole 'agenda first, story second' trend. If I want to watch a 'feminist' movie, I'll just switch on 'Alien' or 'Nightmare on Elm Street'-movies that have well-done characters you care about, proactive female protagonists who are actually PEOPLE, and an engaging story. When you actually look at the history of feminism it was rarely about equality. It was about using blame to get advantages. Some of them lead to equality. But quite a lot of them had nothing to with equality, but getting undeserved privledges. That's why feminsts are so adamant about keeping up the victimhood narrative. The second that's gone, they'd lose all their power.
Feminism is great, but it's often treated as a cash grab, or is only analyzed on a very surface level to the point of being misrepresented and ultimately misunderstood.

The original Black Christmas had a lot of strong and memorable female characters, an abortion subplot, and even then it didnt put agenda in front of the story. Everything felt natural, as something that grew out of story and nothing felt forced. Which is why it's great.
The problem isn't that she's bringing that up, the problem is that she's bringing it up in relation to him saying "Not all men have power!" Which is true when you take into account other issues like the class system, homosexuality, race, disabilities, several factors that do result in "men not having the power" That phrase is not related to any of those things, it's related directly to sexual assault and gender politics, which he probably wasn't talking about with that phrase (I know before and after he was trying to excuse misogyny but that one line stood out as not being directly related). It's weirdly inaccurate and ignores the somewhat valid yet unrelated point he was bringing up.

The people who made original ideas like Get Out,Split, Purge Anarchy and Election Year now are remaking old movies that don’t need remakes! For some odd reason they’re competing with Disney’s remakes, which is stupid! There are arguments for “Halloween 2018” that it was somewhat original,but it’s also Halloween and changing the plot from the original was offensive! I remember women played the same song it’s not for you! Then who is it for?! They’ve made Alien,Terminator,the first Halloween ,and original Nightmare On Elm Street all with a woman protagonist and they never left out men and made them look bad! Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Myers are the only characters that save this movie! The rest are annoying! I don’t like the grand daughter,the dad,the cops and especially the doctor! The daughter/mom is decent,and that’s what “Halloween 2018” is to me decent which is good. It’s not great,but it was a better experience than “Venom”!

2006 Black Christmas was my favorite because it had Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Lacy Chabert and a rising Mary Elizabeth Winstead and had a decency to add an original Actress (Andrea Martin) from the first movie. It was campy fun.
The original film is one of the first slasher films and one of the best this remake didn't even have Billy or anything to remind us of the original it was just a cash grab and an offense to the original

@@AzureRoxe The problem is that’s not what the girls did, like, at all. They were just calling out that one specific frat house. Somehow, everyone in that scene managed to be completely and totally wrong.
I did feel sorry for the boyfriend; even when he supported his partner, he was still the enemy. And when he'd had enough & spoke up, that just cemented his standing with his now-ex partner. I also understand why Imogen's character wanted to forget her pain & move on, & why she was so upset at her friend for not letting her; 'cause it's borderline torture to send a soldier with PTSD back to the trench in which they suffered their trauma day after day after day.
The main takeaway from the ending is basically the guys were release from a spell and left confused as to what they are doing in the moment. One of them was saved because they know him and the rest were locked in the burning building to die. The girls basically turned into villains at the last moment.

Well, I didn't see the movie but from the small pieces Chris shows us I get the feeling that whoever made this "The movie is for women" claim should go and see a psychologist. Seriously, that's just so fucked up. Why should I enjoy this bad movie? Just because I'm female? Do women not care about good plots, characters and acting? It just doesn't make any sense.

Fun fact: This was filmed in my city's university. Specifically, Otago University in Dunedin, New Zealand. I even know a couple people who signed on to be extras within this film. It was pretty cool to have a Blumhouse movie being filmed in our little corner of the world.
Then the movie came and went with no one in my city caring or talking about it. Yeah, when even the city you filmed the movie in (let alone a city that's NEVER had a movie of this scale being produced) doesn't care about your film, you know you screwed up somewhere.
The Nintendo and Sony Boy I’m from NZ as well and I remember everyone was excited at first but then everyone just forgot.
It never came to either rialto or reading though so like there was just no way to see it

The Invisible Man tackled all of the same issues that this movie tackles but does an infinitely better job. It also handles it with much more subtlety, as while it never flat out says that Adrian raped Cecilia (nor does it even overtly mention rape or sexual assault), you get a sense that that is the case when she says that he would hit her "among other things". There's also the fact that she's easy to relate to and identify with, which you can't say for any of the characters in this movie. Most of all, it's actually scary; the scene where Adrian's breath appears behind Cecilia is far more terrifying than anything that happens in this movie.
It's ironic, since there's so much insistince that stories like this need to be told by women and The Invisible Man was written and directed by a man.

When Jordan Peele made ”Get Out” it was a perfect example of a movie being tailored for a certain group without excluding all the others.

I loved Get Out. At first I was afraid of it being very preachy. But i don't believe it was. The plot was so interesting. Jordan Peele actually came out and said a lot of people believed he was pushing against your typical white conservative. But he said the film was directed more toward a white SJW. A lot of times (SOME) liberal, SJW types will treat black people, or people of any other race as some prize or rare animal.

He even filmed that performance, he doesn't have the right to all of a sudden play the victim card and if he does it needs to be developed more (was there a scene where he expressed discomfort at what the girls were doing?).

I’m a feminist woman who watched this for the first time last night and I despised it. It had absolutely no subtlety and I felt the message got lost in offensively stereotypical characters (both the men and the women) and I agree with you on feeling spoon fed. I don’t think any other movie has insulted my intelligence quite like this one did. I was honestly surprised to see it was a female director. I’ve actually never seen the original (something I will be correcting soon) but even still I said out loud “there’s no way this is anything like the original.” It was awful. I thought Imogen’s acting was great for what she had to work with and that’s literally the only nice thing I can think to say about this film lol. Oh and I wondered the same thing about those other frat guys at the end! The ones who had no idea what they were even doing. Poor guys!

Eric H feminisms is.. or was supposed to be about equal rights for EVERYONE everyone deserves these rights the only reason it was originally called feminism because women and the idea of feminity, were in history looked down on and associated with a piticular gender when everyone has a right to feminity or masculinity.

It's really disheartening to see movies like this. Feminism was supposed to be about women becoming EQUAL to men. But now it just feels like a bunch of bullies are taking out their hatred on all guys-not just the ones who are legitimately horrible, but innocent men who probably abhor misogyny-and they're hiding under the feminist movement so that people don't call them out. Black Christmas is a prime example of this. I, for one, am tired of the whole 'agenda first, story second' trend. If I want to watch a 'feminist' movie, I'll just switch on 'Alien' or 'Nightmare on Elm Street'-movies that have well-done characters you care about, proactive female protagonists who are actually PEOPLE, and an engaging story. When you actually look at the history of feminism it was rarely about equality. It was about using blame to get advantages. Some of them lead to equality. But quite a lot of them had nothing to with equality, but getting undeserved privledges. That's why feminsts are so adamant about keeping up the victimhood narrative. The second that's gone, they'd lose all their power.
Feminism is great, but it's often treated as a cash grab, or is only analyzed on a very surface level to the point of being misrepresented and ultimately misunderstood.

The nazis might have had some good ideas about community, architecture and engineering for example. But the whole killing jews thing kind of poisons the well, wouldn't you agree?

But as long as the victim blaming, all the lies, false data, all the hate and slogans like "kill all men" come with it.. it will always be poisoned. Feminism isn't just the good ideas. It's everything that belongs to the ideology. You can't just pick and chose. It's the whole package or none of it.
If you wanna stick with the good stuff only, you're basically just left with human rights. Have you ever heard of someone defending their opinion that human rights are needed? And even so, how common is "kill all men"? Genuinely tell me when was the last time you heard or saw people who claim to be feminists use that mantra? Look. I don't claim to be the keeper of all feminists, especially the ones who misinterpret what the point of feminism is. I just know that the pursuit and promotion of fair and equal treatment between genders is a cause worth having. It's more than just human rights. It's about questioning and discussing social perceptions, expectations, and reinforced norms that end up being limiting and damaging to both women and men. This is why I said what i said. You are ignorant, and don't understand much about feminism. The changes and discussions that have come from it are too invaluable, and frankly, I don't see how our understanding and views of gender can change for the better without it.
The original Black Christmas had a lot of strong and memorable female characters, an abortion subplot, and even then it didnt put agenda in front of the story. Everything felt natural, as something that grew out of story and nothing felt forced. Which is why it's great.

The problem isn't that she's bringing that up, the problem is that she's bringing it up in relation to him saying "Not all men have power!" Which is true when you take into account other issues like the class system, homosexuality, race, disabilities, several factors that do result in "men not having the power" That phrase is not related to any of those things, it's related directly to sexual assault and gender politics, which he probably wasn't talking about with that phrase (I know before and after he was trying to excuse misogyny but that one line stood out as not being directly related). It's weirdly inaccurate and ignores the somewhat valid yet unrelated point he was bringing up.

The people who made original ideas like Get Out,Split, Purge Anarchy and Election Year now are remaking old movies that don’t need remakes! For some odd reason they’re competing with Disney’s remakes, which is stupid! There are arguments for “Halloween 2018” that it was somewhat original,but it’s also Halloween and changing the plot from the original was offensive! I remember women played the same song it’s not for you! Then who is it for?! They’ve made Alien,Terminator,the first Halloween ,and original Nightmare On Elm Street all with a woman protagonist and they never left out men and made them look bad! Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Myers are the only characters that save this movie! The rest are annoying! I don’t like the grand daughter,the dad,the cops and especially the doctor! The daughter/mom is decent,and that’s what “Halloween 2018” is to me decent which is good. It’s not great,but it was a better experience than “Venom”!

2006 Black Christmas was my favorite because it had Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Lacy Chabert and a rising Mary Elizabeth Winstead and had a decency to add an original Actress (Andrea Martin) from the first movie. It was campy fun.

I saw this with my dad when it came out, we walked out in anger after the part when the boyfriend argues with the girls about feminism
I did feel sorry for the boyfriend; even when he supported his partner, he was still the enemy. And when he'd had enough & spoke up, that just cemented his standing with his now-ex partner. I also understand why Imogen's character wanted to forget her pain & move on, & why she was so upset at her friend for not letting her; 'cause it's borderline torture to send a soldier with PTSD back to the trench in which they suffered their trauma day after day after day.
Sounds like those were the only good things about this movie.

The main takeaway from the ending is basically the guys were release from a spell and left confused as to what they are doing in the moment. One of them was saved because they know him and the rest were locked in the burning building to die. The girls basically turned into villains at the last moment.
They literally took that idea of can't tell the good from the bad so just do away with all of them.
