I've always felt that Buffy and Faith's shared dream was because they are _both_ the Slayer, and thus they both have access to a sort of mystical dreamspace where the Slayer gets prophetic dreams. Normally, there's only one person in there, but right now there's two Slayers, so they share it.
Faith is the Slayer. Buffy is an anomaly. They share a connection nevertheless though. But people forget - _Faith_ is *_The_* Slayer. As Giles stated when Kendra appeared, she is _the_ Slayer, and Buffy is _a_ Slayer.
@@arc7375Faith is The Slayer in the sense that the line passes through her now, but clearly Buffy is still considered The Slayer. Not only by everyone in the world, but by the Powers That Be as Well. All the prophecies are about Buffy(season 1), the Riddler comes down to help Buffy, everyone expects Buffy to do her duty as the Slayer and put responsibility on her. Even the other Slayers(Kendra and Faith) consider Buffy to be the most senior/legit Slayer and defer to her(before Faith went rogue). So the line might pass through Faith, but because Buffy never died she’s still the Slayer in everyone’s mind - especially because Faith went over to the dark side.
@@arc7375 True, but Buffy never lost any of her Slayerness (Slayerocity?); she still has everything that makes her the Slayer... she just died and caused a successor to be chosen. It's a distinction with few meaningful differences.
I really wish they would’ve taken more advantage of this and had Kendra show up in her dreams or even Kendra and faith having a dream together, or the potentials maybe showing up in dreams, it could’ve been so cool.
So, fun fact. The writers planned to have a running gag where the school principal would get eaten alive and replaced with a new principal every few episodes. After Flutie, however, they ended up liking Snyder as a character so much that they kept him around for the rest of high school. The part where Snyder ended up getting eaten was a reference to that planned running gag.
I love that this show doesn't keep the cast in high school. They let them grow up, form connections and alliances with having the other students know something is happening and recognizing that Buffy is helping them. They didn't treat it like the world existed in a stagnant vacuum. I love the upcoming seasons.
The second part was originally supposed to air a week after the first part, but was delayed by a month due to the content of the episode and the occurrence of the Columbine High School shootings a month earlier. Same as the episode "Earshot" which was only shown two months after the third season ended for the same reason.
The mean girl getting bit was Harmony. She was the one who got pushed down the stairs in the invisible girl episode and was signing the yearbook with Willow.
Not sure you noticed - when the school goes boom, Jonathan is embracing Cordy. Not romantically, just protecting her from the blast. And she doesn't seem to mind. What a growth for both of them.
I love how Alexis Denisof (Wesley) was given the opportunity to have a badass moment in the finale, but he thought it would be better if he got hit once and spent the rest of the fight laying on the ground, whimpering 😂
I loved this season! Eliza did AMAZING, and brought a genuine , flawed character and you can see every emotion going through Faith! I was in love with Buffy but Faith had me so sympathetic when this aired
The duality of Buffy and Faith had been mesmerizing this year. Love how Faith is eating red frizzles when Buffy comes in wearing red leather pants for the first time. The sharing of their dream, the same fighting style, even their hospital rooms…. when Faith is up, Buffy is down. and vice versa. After this episode you realize that The Prom was more integral than just a bittersweet experience. Really an outstanding finish to a super season. One of the most interesting and debated subjects in BYVS is Faith. Misguided villain, flawed hero, ruthless killer, manipulated teenager…. Was she doomed or pushed aside by Buffy , Giles, and The Scoobys? Everyone has their own opinions and my Buffy friends are split. One certainty is that when Faith and Buffy are together, it’s bad ass women at its best.
Well, considering she was based _entirely_ on the character of Jean Grey, and as of Season 3, they were giving her a Phoenix/Dark Phoenix arc, that’s totally appropriate.
I love rewatching the series..each season has its own flair, flavor, feel..the development is amazing. I don’t like when ppl say one season is better or worse than another..they’re simply different. It’s a long story..just enjoy it as it progresses..
It's only an after thought when you look back at the episode but the hint was there that everyone knew cause not a single one of their parents or family were there for the graduation, only the students lol
Ngl, this is one of the best season finales of the show. There are a couple more that are special, but this one is definitely up there. Happy "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" Friday evening with Cody and Sergio! 😊 It's time for Graduation Day for the class of Sunnydale High! From Faith shooting Angel, to the Buffy vs. Faith fight, to Buffy letting Angel feed off of her in order to cure him, to the final showdown with the Mayor during the graduation ceremony. You mentioned the music at one point. Christophe Beck's score for half of season 2 (including all the Buffy-Angel "arc" episodes and all of seasons 3 and 4 really set the tone for the show. He moved on to other projects after that (he does a lot of Disney movies now), but he showed up in the score a couple of times after, and the composers who followed tried to fit into the same big orchestral feeling he had established (as opposed to the X-Files-ish electronic sound of season 1 and the other half of season 2). The way he carried musical motifs throughout a season for particular characters and pairings (leitmotifs) gave it a classic movie feel, but still left room for playful variation.
I also like how Larry was one of the heroes in the alternative reality and even seemed to have a meaningful relationship with Oz (not explicitly of course, but it would have been fun).
"Little miss muffet counting down from 730" is a very significant line that makes no sense now, but is worth revisiting later on in your Buffy journey.

Since you are already on episode two of "Angel" over on Patreon, Cody & Sergio I can safely say thank you to David Boreanaz and Charisma Carpenter for starin on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" for three seasons. This episode marks the exit of Angel and Cordelia.
Graduation Day part 1 was another brilliant episode with the Buffy and Faith fight a super climax. We can see Faith out of control committing cold blooded murder of the Professor. We now know where Faith's knife ended up with Buffy giving it back to Faith in her gut. All this leads up to the brilliant part 2. S3 was where the show really developed into a stellar series. Interesting part where Xander pays homage to Jaws ' we are gonna need a bigger boat'. This was a brilliant Season.
People are often shocked to learn that the Mayor _genuinely_ loved Faith as a daughter. Not unlike how Giles loves Buffy as a Daughter. If you look back, the Mayor never lies, never manipulates or uses Faith. He genuinely loves her and cares about her - to the point where he made _her_ his priority over the ascension. And she was ultimately his weak point that Buffy was able to exploit to defeat him. Also, while in her coma, the spirit of the Mayor would possess animals to visit Faith, sit by her bedside, and keep her company. He loved and cared for her beyond his death.
"his name is richard." yep, and that scene is *why* his name is richard. it's specifically so buffy can call him "dick" in the finale without upsetting the network censor.

Fantastic reaction to the two season ender episodes. I live in Colorado and we definitely had that month long break between 21 & 22. How frustrating would that have been for you? Loved everything about these two episodes!
Part 2 didn't air until July, two months later because everyone was freaking out about Columbine. And it was another 3 months from *that* before season 4 started. Fortunately, a station in Canada aired it as originally planned (just like Earshot), so the video got passed around the net.
I’ve seen all of the seasons but it’s your responses that keep me coming back to watching every week ❤ I swear, I don’t rewatch these because I want to go on with you both! Vitamin C, my graduation song!!!
I'm normally a day late but here 53 seconds after upload. What a day. Yeah this season seems to have flew with you guys. This two parter. Phew. The whole class coming together to fight is always a moving moment, despite not everyone making it out alive. Buffy looking for Angel at the end 🥺 Faith and Buffy showdown. God damn. Also that scene where angel drinks from Buffy, nothing about that was subtle. "He's gonna do the whole speech". "Evil".
I could never identify with the nostalgia that was the end of high school like Willow. I was more like Buffy. Gathering the entire class was a great cap to the end of the high school run of the series. This is the first time Cordelia has staked a vampire. They survived high school... and the battle.
Finale is Epic. I thought the demon design was cool and always loved seeing the whole school fight. Also mad they killed off Larry. Such an explosive ending to high school lol
Cody & Siergio, part one of "Graduation Day" aired on May 18, 1999. Part two of Graduation Day" on July 13, 1999 in the US and May 24, 1999 in Canada. Part two was postponed due to the episode's content and the occurrence of the Columbine High School shootings one month prior.
I can only speak for Australia but we definitely had to wait a week. In season 2 in Australia the show stopped airing after bad eggs for what felt like a year so when it came back I missed surprise and innocence I had to see it on VHS from the video store I think passion was the first one I saw.
There is peak to come about episodes in next seasons and characters development but this season is my favorite. The second half is so great and Faith and the Mayor perfect additions to the show. This is the end of an era

so, not only did these episodes not air back to back but part 2 did not even follow the week after. It was crazy time with regard to school violence so they didn't air part 2 until right before the start of season 4 due to the scoobies blowing up the school.
aw you guys made me cry too! 🖤 such an epic finale there’s much greatness yet to come, but it’s always bittersweet saying goodbye to the high school years of the show they were able to capture a sense of nostalgia that really hooked viewers and made us fans for life
I think I'm gonna make a Buffy drinking game and use it on this two parter, for the next time I have a sleepover with my friends. I just thought of: - everytime I cry (or I'm teary eyed) we all drink - everytime Anya doesn't know how to act like a human we take a sip - everytime Buffy and Angel have relationship drama we take a sip - everytime a Watcher makes a British reference we take a sip - everytime Buffy kicks ass we take a sip - everytime someone makes an epic speech we take two long sips - everytime Cordelia slays a vampire we finish our drink - everytime someone gets seriously injured we take two long sips - everytime some human dies we take 3 long sips
Season 3 is my favorite season of the whole show. The build-up is phenomenal. By the time you reach the finale, everything is permeated with such an overwhelming sense of impending doom and dread. Mayor Wilkins is such a great villain, like an evil Mister Rogers whose wholesome demeanor makes him all the more creepy when you know how sinister he really is. While the giant CGI snake does look a bit dated, you have to remember that this was a TV show in 1999, and that was probably the best they were capable of at the time and on a TV budget. But I love that the entire senior class gets in on the fight with one big battle, and seeing Snyder get eaten was supremely satisfying.
LOVE your reactions BTW. I agree with Kodi completely about being surprised that the mayor wasn't just using faith. It really seems like he considered her a daughter or something
BtVS has always done just BRILLIANT dream sequences. From the fact that they FEEL like real life dreams, to the symbolism and foreshadowing, etc... always beautifully done... Buffy: I can't use all of this. Faith: Just take what you need. I interpret this to be Buffy referring to Faith's mind, Faith's perspective, everything she's learned from Faith. Some of it she has to toss out, it's not beneficial for her or healthy. She can't use all of it. But she can "take what she needs" from Faith and all that they've been through together and she's learned. She can let her Slayer side out a little more, the way Faith has always done. She doesn't need to go as FAR as Faith, but she can still take parts of Faith and incorporate them into her own worldview and approach to slaying and to life. This episode is so intensely emotional. I love the whole school coming together to fight WITH Buffy - this was set up beautifully and subtly in The Prom when they acknowledged that they do KNOW and appreciate her. I love how this episode managed to pay tribute to all these minor characters we've come to love over the last three years. Goodbye, Sunnydale High - beautifully executed.
Guys you can now start watching Angel if you wish, just stick to a guide watchlist it will make more sense. Angel is an amazing show in its own right, you will love it. Anyway getting on to Graduation Day Part 2. It was a brilliant final episode to a near flawless season. Snyder's quote class of 99 ' you proved more or less adequate' a great quote. Cordelia and Wesley's kiss cringing! Farewell to the High School Years but there is even better to come. We lost Larry and Snyder and of course Harmony got bitten. When Buffy said to Angel said 'Drink Me' a homage to Alice In Wonderland, they always make reference to classic films and stories in The Buffyverse, like when they saw the size of Demon The Mayor was going to change into referencing Jaws, 'we're gonna need a bigger boat'. You must! now start watching Angel, it is important to watch both shows in correct watch order as the crossover plots with BTVS S4 will make more sense. You will love Angel it's a much darker show, the very best episodes of that show are more than a match for BTVS. Enjoy S4 of BTVS and Angel. BTW if you are going to watch Angel skip the theme and credits at the start, watch the intro after you finish episode 1. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Signing yearbooks makes me nostalgic. Wow Faith really committing to the dark side 😳 Willow’s smiley face backpack. Anya spilling the ascension tea. Giles stabbing the mayor! Willow/Oz! Angel drinking from Buffy. Both slayers down in the hospital. Faith brain dead? 🤯 The shared mind space is so fascinating. Attack the mayor with hummus 😂 Cordelia’s Ebola plan. "This is crazy. This is like Avengers level... planning" I mean, it kinda is. In my opinion, Buffy was a massive influence towards what the MCU represents. Part 2 didn't air until July, two months later because everyone was freaking out about Columbine. And it was another 3 months from *that* before season 4 started.
Fortunately, a station in Canada aired it as originally planned (just like Earshot), so the video got passed around the net.
I’ve seen all of the seasons but it’s your responses that keep me coming back to watching every week ❤
I swear, I don’t rewatch these because I want to go on with you both!
Vitamin C, my graduation song!!!
”Miles to go. Little Miss Muffet’s counting down from 7-3-0”
I'm normally a day late but here 53 seconds after upload. What a day.
Yeah this season seems to have flew with you guys.
This two parter. Phew. The whole class coming together to fight is always a moving moment, despite not everyone making it out alive. Buffy looking for Angel at the end 🥺
Faith and Buffy showdown. God damn. Also that scene where angel drinks from Buffy, nothing about that was subtle.
"He's gonna do the whole speech".
"Evil".
"just ascend, already"
One of the greatest finales ever.
Let's not forget what The First Evil said to Angel "Sooner or later you will drink her.
Damn Surg got me with, "everybody!" My dumbass starts singing, kids come into the room like, damn dads nuts. 😂
I have waited all week for this.
Yes!!! We're HERE!!!💚💚💚
The Mayor was for Faith what Wesley utterly failed to be.
Ah, yes, before the final battle of Hogwarts there was Graduation Day in Sunnydale High!
This is the end of an era
so happy to be able to spend some time with two of the best people!! ❤ it’s been a crazy week, my city was hit by a tornado & we have been without power for days. Just recently got it back on.
I❤ This Episode ,Show!
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that and hope you are doing well! 😊 I'm in Oklahoma and know how tornado season can be.
@@carson9359 we are doing a little better. Still have lots of damage & lots of people with no power, but the community is coming together & helping each other. ♥️
New viewer of your show, I'm watching all your reactions Buffy, yours are incredible, one of the best episodes and one of the best finale of the series by far, everyone is so helpful and brave
R.I.P. Larry Blaisdell, Harmony Kendall, and Principal Snyder.
So long Angel, Cordy, Faith, Wesley, and Mayor Wilkins.
so, not only did these episodes not air back to back but part 2 did not even follow the week after. It was crazy time with regard to school violence so they didn't air part 2 until right before the start of season 4 due to the scoobies blowing up the school.
Speaking of Angel sneaking into a new timeslot I cannot wait to see you start reacting to that as well.
aw you guys made me cry too! 🖤 such an epic finale
there’s much greatness yet to come, but it’s always bittersweet saying goodbye to the high school years of the show
they were able to capture a sense of nostalgia that really hooked viewers and made us fans for life
10:36 I love this side of Angel
I think I'm gonna make a Buffy drinking game and use it on this two parter, for the next time I have a sleepover with my friends. I just thought of:
- everytime I cry (or I'm teary eyed) we all drink
- everytime Anya doesn't know how to act like a human we take a sip
- everytime Buffy and Angel have relationship drama we take a sip
- everytime a Watcher makes a British reference we take a sip
- everytime Buffy kicks ass we take a sip
- everytime someone makes an epic speech we take two long sips
- everytime Cordelia slays a vampire we finish our drink
- everytime someone gets seriously injured we take two long sips
- everytime some human dies we take 3 long sips
I have had so much fun watching your Buffy journey and I can't wait for y'all to start season 4!
Little miss Muffet is counting down from 730...
One of the best fight scenes in buffy history buffy v faith
EEEEE!!! We're here! Happy Friday!
I'd guess Angel did feel the urge to drink Buffy. Angel and Angelus aren't completely different, Angel just recognized those urges as wrong.
LOVE your reactions BTW. I agree with Kodi completely about being surprised that the mayor wasn't just using faith. It really seems like he considered her a daughter or something
The way I was just crying through the big fight hahah 😂
Anya is iconic. And episodes 21 and 22 of season 3 are such a GREAT ending for this season.
I’m so excited for you to get into Angel! Buffy’s dream was so important in so many ways!!!!! Can’t wait for next week 🤩
Angel is not as good as Buffy.
@@Hirius BTVS is of course the Legacy show, but the very best episodes of Angel are superb, especially S5 of Angel. It's all very subjective.
Signing yearbooks makes me nostalgic. Wow Faith really committing to the dark side 😳 Willow’s smiley face backpack. Anya spilling the ascension tea. Giles stabbing the mayor! Willow/Oz! ADORE THEM 💚 Everyone preparing for ascension. Faith shooting Angel w/ a poisoned arrow! Love Anya’s humanity development w/ Xander 😂 Slayer showdown! 🔥
Seems the mayor actually cares about Faith. Angel drinking from Buffy. Both slayers down in the hospital. Faith brain dead? 🤯 The shared mind space is so fascinating. Attack the mayor with hummus 😂 Cordelia’s Ebola plan. The shift between battle plans was so good. The buildup was awesome. That Wesley/Cordelia kiss was more awkward than I could’ve ever imagined 🤦🏽♀️ Class of 99. Principal Snyder! The mayor’s transformation tho. Oh hell yeah! The whole class fighting against the mayor! 🙌🏼 They really said graduation? Destroy the entire high school 😂 Awesome final battle sequence! Giles handing Buffy her diploma 💚 Angel’s exit. Absolutely slaying these reactions y’all! Season 3 was great! Can’t wait to jump into season 4 🖤
"This is crazy. This is like Avengers level... planning"
I mean, it kinda is. In my opinion, Buffy was a massive influence towards what the MCU represents. Worldbuilding, long story archs, a lot of things being interconnected. Also, Wh*don and I'm sure other people that worked on Buffy, ended up working on The Avengers.
The miss muffet speech....the first easter eggs before swifties had them
There was more before that.
Two months between those episodes. They were supposed to air a week apart, but Columbine. Air dates ended up being May 24, 1999 (Canada) July 13, 1999 (United States). Internet ofc meant those who could downloaded the episode from sites that shared it.
The last episode was one of my favorite episodes
You guys are in for a treat for the next season

Ms. girl at the bottom was staring hard and too excited 😂
Loved these eps so much and even rewatching this I got the same tension feelings.
I’m pretty sure when it aired in the UK we had to wait a week for the next episode. I totally agree with you though the music in this show slaps hard.
I watched it when it first aired in the UK. We were always way behind the US for shows in the 90’s but it was the week after. Hated having to wait 🤣🤣🤣
One of my favourite episodes…🥰…all I’m gonna say is much 💖🤣😤🥹😭🤔💪🏽✌️
"Well Gosh!" Will forever be in my and my husbands, linguistic Arsenal! 😄
Xander is short on cash. Not surprising, given that he bought Cordy that dress.
