24:38 YUP. It is very purposefully in a church. The actor of Lestat has said in interviews that Lestat very much considers the church altar turning scene to be wedding vows and a marriage ceremony... So the fact that it's in a church, at the altar of the church, is very significant for the character. Especially because he has such a complicated relationship with religion.... It's a really beautiful moment for Lestat and also kind of like a gleeful desecration of holy ground, in a way.

17:58 fun fact about the tap dancing scene the two actors learned it on zoom because the pandemic was happening.... And they did have body doubles on set like is commonly used for dance scenes or when someone's playing an instrument that they don't actually know how to play.... But the actors were able to learn the dance so well that the body doubles weren't needed at all. ALL of the dancing was done by the actual actors themselves and that's probably why they have so many wide shots of the dancing lol.
In terms of the 90s movie, I would recommend finishing season 2 first before rewatching it. This show is my current obsession, it's so good, can't wait to see more of your reactions!

It's an absolutely genius title card. It's very quick and simple but if you pay attention there are absolutely details that change which is wonderful. I always love seeing the title card for this show getting some love.

This is the best show in years. So much better than the movie because the authors take into consideration all the books and not only the first one. And the actors really committed in the show (Sam Reid/ Lestat is a big fan of the books). The show is also an emotional roller coaster. Hope u enjoy it. And indeed, Lestat has nothing to do with Paul death. (This is not a spoiler).
Ahhh I was so excited for you guys to get to this show! Yes, you were tricked a bit with regard to how dark and intense this show is, but I swear it’s worth it! All around fantastic writing and acting. This show makes quite a few changes to the original books and the movie adaptation, but it still keeps the essence of the story and in some ways does a greater service to the characters than the books or movies did. Namely concerning Louis’s character. In the books and movies did he can seem quite whiny and boring, but Jacob Anderson is able to bring so much life and depth to his character through the show. Changing Louis from a white slave owner to a black gay pimp changes the dynamic to his relationship with Lestat and vampirism so much and is even more compelling imo. And they really captured the dubious allure of Lestat in this episode. He’s mesmerizing but you also can’t help be a little wary of him. Can’t wait for the next episode!

I would have thought the word vampire in the title would have tipped you off to the fact there would be BLOOD, lol. I cannot wait until you guys get deeper in the seasons. You will NOT be disappointed. All of the sets, costumes, and actors really telling a great story really made this series top five for me in 2024.

Paul was likely schizophrenic exascerbated by religious fervour, having delusions and believing he was seeing visions, though from his quite literal demeanor he could have been somewhat autistic as well. Hard to say, though it would have likely been a secondary factor and not the source of his mental illness. Lestat was not to blame, though, canonically - Paul died in the book as well, from a similar incident, though in the book it was before Louis met Lestat timeline wise. He did kill Lily though 😅 And the scene with Lestat and Louis meeting in the brothel, they were essentially competing for who could buy Miss Lily for the night, lol. Lestat is just a vampire, but a very powerful chaotic bisexual vampire who has a lot of religious trauma and has a tendency to fall in love with chronically depressed guys.
14:16 yeah, that shot is one of my favorites in season 1... They were able to depict such a moment of intense yearning... That a lot of shows really drop the ball on but that specific shot in that scene encapsulates it PERFECTLY... Reaching out to touch him but pulling back last minute. It's such a beautiful shot that the choreography in the scene is very dance-like. It's so beautiful. I'm really glad that you guys kind of pointed out how great that moment was... The majority of reactors here on TH-cam don't really make a comment on it... But yeah it's a moment that I've always deeply loved... It always warms my heart when someone else sees the beauty in it, like I do.

And he does have more powers than a vampire his age would normally have (because with Anne Rice's vampires the older a vampire is the stronger and more powerful they are) He has these powers for... reasons. Reasons that will be explained in future seasons so I'm not going to say anything more about it but yes, he is a very very powerful vampire... more powerful than he technically should be.
Soo excited you're starting this show! But calm down, no need to rush this show. Season 3 is set to premiere in the fall of 2025, so you've got time. This show is sooooo good, it needs to be enjoyed and not "rushed through" so just relax enjoy the ride and the amazing show you're about to watch.
Ooooooh i'm always so excited when we get a new reaction to this show, which in my opinion is a masterful adaptation of the iconic Anne Rice book(s) and one of the most brilliant, if not THE most brilliant, TV shows of the past decade. Can't wait for the next eps and hopefully season 2 (an imperative watch if you want the full story). "I was expecting a gay vampire romance" - well, it is, believe it or not 😅 Gothic, twisted, dark, not your straighforward type of romance, but romance nonetheless if you're willing to accept the complex, monstrous and morally grey nature of it. Also, as others have probably said (forgive me for not reading all the other comments), please keep in mind that what you're seeing is the story told from the perspective of Louis (at least for now). So what you're getting to see is a subjective retelling. Of course this absolutely doesn't mean he's lying by any means, but that, as with any memory, it's subject to interpretation. The tagline of the show, after all, is "Memory is a monster". That's all i'll say about that. Anyways, enjoy the madness and beauty that is Interview with the (Gay) Vampire.

It's best not to apply vampire lore from other authors/mythologies to this. All vampire lore/powers are different for every series, show, author, folklore, culture, etc.
Buckle up! Interview is a wild, fantastic, emotional ride!!!! Can't wait to see the rest of your reactions! I would honestly recommend not rewatching the 90s film until after the finale of season 1. I think it could be nice to have some of the plot be a surprise.
If you guys like behind the scenes content for TV shows I would highly recommend watching the behind the scenes content for this show... Some people watch it immediately after finishing the episode because there is a tiny snippet of the behind the scenes documentary that correlates to the episode at the end... But there are a couple of people on TH-cam who have just watched the entire behind the scenes documentary after they've completed the season. They've done behind the scenes content for season 1 and season 2 and both documentaries are available on the AMC TH-cam channel... I definitely prefer the season 2 behind the scenes content but both are very informative and I enjoyed watching them. Season 1 has the executive producers and the writers talking about stuff... And the season 2 stuff has the executive producers, the writers and some of the actors, talking about stuff that happens in the season so I definitely prefer the season 2 stuff because it does have additional input from the actors but I still did enjoy watching the season 1 behind the scenes stuff, for sure... It just has a slightly less personal touch of the actors, IMO.... If you guys absolutely hate behind the scenes content you definitely don't HAVE to watch it but the people who have watched it here on TH-cam have really really enjoyed it and appreciated the additional insight that is gained and clarified in the behind the scenes content. And I definitely agree with those reacters opinions.
📺..💭 Season 1 of Interview with the Vampire had me in a headlock... It's literally one of the best shows I've seen on TV, the computer, or anywhere else!... (and I've never really been into Vampire shows, or gore.) 🎬 Sam Reid's dialogue when he was first courting Louis was Shakespearean like and hypnotic., (He's a love-bombing master!)😏 and his acting was awesome.👍🏼 (I think Jacob fell for him forreal while playing that role... I know I did!) lol
In the book it is never explicitly stated exactly which mental illness Paul has... Autism is a pretty good guess that you made with his social skills being... not good!... But the symptoms that the TV show is portraying aline more with schizophrenia or psychosis.. because he does seem to be experiencing hallucinations of some sort... It's unknown exactly what type of hallucinations he is experiencing ...probably auditory but since we are not in his perspective we don't know if he also has visual hallucinations. But yeah just like the book the show does kind of leave it up in the air... It's something that was significantly debilitating enough of an illness for him to have been hospitalized a couple of different times from what the show mentioned.... And mental hospitals back then we're pretty much never helpful and always traumatizing... He came back from being in one of those hospitals in a worse state than he was prior to going in.... But yeah there's never any verbal confirmation of exactly what he was potentially diagnosed with back then... I have to assume they did that because that is the same as in source material. From what I remember, book readers have told me that Paul's mental illness is just kind of vaguely described as madness. Which is a pretty common way of describing mental illness in the gothic horror/romance genre which is what the book and show genre is ...Even though the source material and the TV show are set in very different time periods... Mental illness was still kind of treated in the same way, unfortunately. Thankfully, in current day we have a much better understanding of mental illnesses.
If you are familiar with the Anne Rice books, the series makes more sense. The series , in many respects is closer to the books. The 1994 film does not cover many details of the books.
You are in for a treat! Easily one of the best series out! "Let the tale seduce you, as I was seduced" feels like it's directed to the audience. Let go of what you THNK you know from the books and movies, and enjoy the ride 😊

I’m very excited to see you both react to this series!! Last year I had only watched the original movie a week before starting the series. They both left me intrigued and dramatically seduced. The characters to me are very similar to Twilight characters. Louis reminds me of Edward and Jasper as Lestat reminds me of James, Carlisle, and Aro. 🧛🏻♂️🧛🏾🩸⚰️🖤❤️🩶
Lestat was turned against his will. He is very much about consent. I think movie and book Lestat would've just killed Louis if he'd said 'no'. But this Lestat, I think he would've just kept perusing Louis, but he wouldn't have killed him if he'd said 'no'. He's also not controlling Louis. There would be no point to that. If he wanted a puppet, he could make anyone a puppet. He wanted a partner.
Ok guys great first reaction BUT BE CAREFUL not to get into trouble with die-hard fans! lol. The the 30 mins for a reaction video was TERRIFIC! but watch how you edit, as more time needs to be given to key areas like the church scene etc. Also you HAVE TO go beyond surface viewing and pick up on key statements & scenarios as they will become invaluable later on in this season and the next! Watch this show as if you a psychologist because the twisted relationships is what makes the show GREAT!
I wouldn't watch this at first because the casting and the plot is so far from the books, which I have read. I did watch and I really enjoyed it. I do think still some of the casting is off, like Claudia.

📺..💭 Season 1 of Interview with the Vampire had me in a headlock... It's literally one of the best shows I've seen on TV, the computer, or anywhere else!... (and I've never really been into Vampire shows, or gore.) 🎬 Sam Reid's dialogue when he was first courting Louis was Shakespearean like and hypnotic., (He's a love-bombing master!)😏 and his acting was awesome.👍🏼 (I think Jacob fell for him forreal while playing that role... I know I did!) lol
In the book it is never explicitly stated exactly which mental illness Paul has... Autism is a pretty good guess that you made with his social skills being... not good!... But the symptoms that the TV show is portraying aline more with schizophrenia or psychosis.. because he does seem to be experiencing hallucinations of some sort... It's unknown exactly what type of hallucinations he is experiencing ...probably auditory but since we are not in his perspective we don't know if he also has visual hallucinations. But yeah just like the book the show does kind of leave it up in the air... It's something that was significantly debilitating enough of an illness for him to have been hospitalized a couple of different times from what the show mentioned.... And mental hospitals back then we're pretty much never helpful and always traumatizing... He came back from being in one of those hospitals in a worse state than he was prior to going in.... But yeah there's never any verbal confirmation of exactly what he was potentially diagnosed with back then... I have to assume they did that because that is the same as in source material.
From what I remember, book readers have told me that Paul's mental illness is just kind of vaguely described as madness. Which is a pretty common way of describing mental illness in the gothic horror/romance genre which is what the book and show genre is ...Even though the source material and the TV show are set in very different time periods... Mental illness was still kind of treated in the same way, unfortunately. Thankfully, in current day we have a much better understanding of mental illnesses.

If you are familiar with the Anne Rice books, the series makes more sense. The series , in many respects is closer to the books. The 1994 film does not cover many details of the books.

I’m very excited to see you both react to this series!! Last year I had only watched the original movie a week before starting the series. They both left me intrigued and dramatically seduced. The characters to me are very similar to Twilight characters. Louis reminds me of Edward and Jasper as Lestat reminds me of James, Carlisle, and Aro. 🧛🏻♂️🧛🏾🩸⚰️🖤❤️🩶

Lestat was turned against his will. He is very much about consent. I think movie and book Lestat would've just killed Louis if he'd said 'no'. But this Lestat, I think he would've just kept perusing Louis, but he wouldn't have killed him if he'd said 'no'. He's also not controlling Louis. There would be no point to that. If he wanted a puppet, he could make anyone a puppet. He wanted a partner.

Ok guys great first reaction BUT BE CAREFUL not to get into trouble with die-hard fans! lol. The the 30 mins for a reaction video was TERRIFIC! but watch how you edit, as more time needs to be given to key areas like the church scene etc. Also you HAVE TO go beyond surface viewing and pick up on key statements & scenarios as they will become invaluable later on in this season and the next! Watch this show as if you a psychologist because the twisted relationships is what makes the show GREAT!

They changed Loui's background for this show. It wont be like the movie which was more book accurate.
I wouldn't watch this at first because the casting and the plot is so far from the books, which I have read. I did watch and I really enjoyed it. I do think still some of the casting is off, like Claudia.
