My wife and I have the larger 6 person version of the tent with the vestibule. It also came with a small 'tarp' section that mystified us. We came up with the same as Luke - that it's a doormat to put your shoes on. Maybe also extra material for repairs? Odd to include loops if that was the case. Our tent has held up very well through some decently heavy use. We went camping with our big dogs in ours and they ran into the walls a lot - no damage. In South Dakota we got hit by a couple rain storms, one with some grape sized hail included. Tent was fine, don't recall any leaks. For the money and convenience I have no complaints.

I bought this exact tent but the 4 person size. Upon installation the only hole I had with mine was a tiny one around the opening which I sewed with the tiny sewing kit I had and seam sealer. Up in the deep woods of maine in late April it survived 4 days of some pretty heavy downpour and about 30-35 mph winds. No leaks or wet spots were found (very surprised).. I had 0 condensation as the whole top is mesh with the cover tarp gapped over it. The extra piece they supply I have been using as a front porch as other reviewers have. I have gone out with it a few times since and can set up within 5 minutes. Really simple and 4 man has a ton of room. And cheap!

Thanks for doing a review on this tent. Me and my grandkids have used the 4 person and 6 person version of this tent for years (caught them ALL on sale at one time or another) and have never had any issues with water leakage. Granted, we are true 'glampers' that try to avoid going camping during rainy periods. However I recall i trip we made wherein it POURED the rain for a long time during an intense thunderstorm. I was really dreading to see how much water got into our tents..... but to our surprise, all three tents (one six person and two two person) were bone dry. I also recall another incident wherein it came a local flash flood in the area we were camping in with just the 6 person tent. We were at dinner during the gully washer and were truly dreading to see if everything stayed dry.....but to our amazement zero water had gotten in (and I had actually forgotten to zip up the door window (I guess we just got lucky and it wasn't a 'blowing' rain??). I'd highly recommend them for glampers. Just my agenda free and no paid story of our personal experience with them !.

I've used an older version of this tent in green. I bought a Skincom Easy Solartent and put it up at the entrance to this tent because the tent doesn't have a vestibule. I've used this tent at many motorcycle rallies and have let my kids use it. I like the tent, but camping in the south with it can be problematic. Its "good" but its stuffy. Only having mesh on the top 1/3 of the tent and one really small zippered vent at the floor, means there isnt a whole lot of air flow through the tent. My biggest gripe is with so little mesh and being a single walled tent, condensation collects on the walls. If you're on the move the next morning you're going to be packing a wet tent AND rainfly. The only time I had it in the rain I had no leaks. My only other gripes would be the lack of a vestibule and that it doesnt lend itself to being packed down as small as some more expensive tents, probably because the floor is made of a thick polyethylene and the tent tends to balloon when you try to roll it or stuff it in a sack. I dont hike, but if I did, I would probably try to find a more packable alternative. For motorcycle camping, I would recommend separating the poles, tent and rainfly for the reasons I mentioned above. For the money this is a good beginner tent. I've since upgraded to an Outdoor Vitals Dominion 2P.

I have this tent and it's been great for me. I put a twin sized air mattress in it and have enough room left over to wash up each morning and store a bit of gear. It's also pretty waterproof if you take care of it. Can't ask for more than that!

I had this tent for years. I used it in the snow and rain. hot weather and cold weather. It is an excellent tent for the price, and is the perfect starter tent for someone who doesn't know what they want. Once you take camping more seriously you will want to upgrade to a better tent.

I have been living in this tent for the about two years. The only problem I’ve had is the top door zipper gave out, about one year of use. The bottom door zipper still works well. I live on Maui on the dry side (west). But we do get down pours now and then. I have not had one drop of leakage so far. My main concern is how long the tent material will holdup because of UV even thought I’m set up under a tree. Very roomy tent. And for $50 I am totally satisfied and definitely got my money’s worth.. For this price I definitely didn’t expect it to last this long especially since I’ve lived in it every day. Didn’t get the extra piece (door mat). Looking forward to see how your tests go, Luke. Always can trust and appreciate your reviews. Many thanks. Aloha

I bought this tent last year as I was getting back into back packing after many years. I was not sure that my wife would like back packing so I did not want to spend a great deal of money on gear until we knew if she wanted to go more than a couple of times. When I received the tent I set it up in the back yard and it rained hard for two days on and off. It did not leak at all, however, I did not have the little holes that his tent showed in the corners. We used the tent last year in the RMNP camping at Sandbeach Lake. This lake is over 10000 feet in elevation and it got pretty could that night, but we stayed pretty warm even though it was around 28 degrees. We also used it in middle Tennessee at the end of October and it was good. However, it does not have vestibules and it could really use more mesh on the inner tent in my opinion. It is also 7.5 lbs which is heavy. You can get the Naturehike Cloud Up 2 for 134.00 and it weighs a little over 3 lbs.

That little floor mat that comes with it is one of my most used pieces of gear. I bring that thing on every backpacking trip.

Growing up, going camping came with the expectation that it was going to be an adventure. If I wanted to sleep in perfect conditions, I'd stay home. Camping SHOULD include a leaky tent, hotdogs dropped in the fire, chips knocked in the dirt, flies, bees, yellow jackets, hail, wind, lightning, ants and anything else nature can provide.
Going to sleep in the mountains during a storm is the best sleep aid I can think of. Waking up in the middle of the night with a wet sleeping bag is adventure sleeping! It makes my warm, dry bed at home feel that much better. :)
I think it comes down to life or death. We always camped near our vehicle in national forest. If we were miles from shelter and heat, yeah, this might not be the tent. Not to mention 7lbs is a little heavy for a backpacking tent, wouldn't you say?

for a night or two, fine, if that is what you want - but A) your just forgiving shitty company behavior and B) these tents are advertised as also for backpacking (getting wet can be VERY bad).

I have the 6 person Sundome that I use for car camping. In hand it doesn't really inspire confidence, but to its credit it has never leaked and has always stayed dry inside, and has also withstood a significant beating from the wind that flat out destroyed a tarp. I wouldn't trust it over my MSR, but the 6-person Sundome was also less than half the cost of my 2-person MSR.

We use the four person version of this tent in our Scout Troop and Venture Crew. They hold up extremely well to the abuse of monthly campouts and do not leak if set up properly. Like any other piece of gear they require proper maintenance and storage (every once in a while we find a moldy tent that was shoved in the back of the cabinet instead of being hung up to dry).

I have the green one. It's been great so far, and a great option for the kids. I don't test things quite like Luke, but it has held up nicely to everything at this point. I think I paid around $40 a few years back. Hard to beat!

I put Scotchgard waterproofing on mine and I had it set-up in my upstate ny backyard for several weeks, from April 2 through mid May. It snowed..alot.. it rained, we had nasty weather.
My sleeping bag, my air mattress that I kept in there stayed dry the entire time. I slept in it on the weekends. No problem. I then took it on an overnight trip. No problems. Stayed cozy
This tent in a word has performed well for a cheap backyard tent. It's not a backpack tent. But for me and my six year old son. It did well and fit a full Sized Coleman air mattress in it

It’s pretty much the same 3 person tent they’ve been selling for a few decades. Got one in 1991 and it survived 50+ trips in Baja Mexico as well as a couple trips to Burning Man in the 90’s. Only once did it rain while using this in San Diego and it was fine.

I have this tent in the 4-person version. I searched a long time for the tent that met my physical and budgetary needs. I have a compact frame hammock that has its own built-in tent setup that I use in the summer in all weather. I was heading for some fall season camping with my Scouts and wanted a larger setup that would fit my hammock and I could set up myself (I'm 5-1" with a few physical limitations.) It poured the week before my camp out so I didn't set it up outside for a test. I did do a quick run through in my living room to make sure everything was there and I knew how it worked. And that my hammock did fit. I camped in below freezing overnight weather through the end of October and November (western NY). We also had rain. I did stay dry inside. When the wind picked up and our temp was going low, I re-staked the fly closer to the base of the tent to hold more heat inside, which did help. That scrap of material that you couldn't identify is supposed to be a shoe mat or floor mat. You can stake it outside the door. But the overhang isn't big enough to protect that in the rain, so I brought it inside the door and left my shoes on it. Saved the sweep out time at the end of the camp out. I really liked the tent. It isn't too heavy, I can set it up myself, and I stayed dry and relatively warm (yes, I did the proper sleeping gear set up for overnight personal warmth.) I like that I can almost stand in it to dress and had enough room for my hammock, my gear and my camp stool inside the tent. I like the blue because I can see it when camping in the woods and approaching it after a hike.

Another great video with a bad tent. A buddy of mine bought this tent when he first became homeless, again. He saw holes everywhere even after using 3 cans of waterproof spray. He used a wool blanket between the fly and the tent body to keep in heat and block holes along the stitch lines of the vent/screens. To keep dry he put a vinyl shower curtain down for a ground sheet, and a vinyl table cloth inside to create a real bathtub floor as well as putting heavy plastic over the top to assist the "rain fly". How do I know all of this; I was in the site next to his. He tried returning it the same day as purchase and was told they couldn't take it back because it was opened. Back when he purchased his the electric cord port was a slot without a zipper. So at least they improved that feature. The door mat thing must be something new - otherwise my buddy was short-changed.

I have a bigger version of this tent. Was camping at a state park in Georgia. A severe thunderstorm came thru one night. Blew down several trees in the park and campground. I didn't realize how bad the storm had actually been until the next morning. I slept thru most of it. This tent survived the high winds with no issue and I stayed dry

I've owned this 2-person Coleman tent years ago when it had light gray and blue colors. It held up in light winds and stayed dry in short rains. In heavy or prolonged rain the moisture began to seep through but not too badly. My complaint was the ventilation in warm humid weather was lacking. But still I thought this tent was decent quality and inexpensive buy. It'll do well for car camping for most folks.

Good morning, Luke. I’ve owned one of these Coleman Sundown 2 person tents for approximately 12 years. When I first started backpacking, we carried one but my son and I split up the weight. It’s definitely too heavy for backpacking.
That being said, on one trip we had a severe thunderstorm roll through and it absolutely poured rain. We sat in the Coleman and stay perfectly dry. My wife and I use it for camping and it’s been solid for us. You can fit a queen size mattress in there but it doesn’t leave a lot of room. Our last trip we used an electric blanket and we stayed nice and toasty.
I highly recommend this tent. Not sure if the newer ones are as waterproof. I really like the Sundown. We’re taking it camping this weekend in New York State. 👍🏻😎

I have the bigger version of this tent that I use for car camping. I love it and have has zero issues with it. Never leaked once. Getting the rain fly up on the bigger one is a pain for one person. But not a dealbreaker. I’ve used about 16 times or so with never an issue.

used this exact 2 person tent during a flash flood, rained for 3 days straight and was surprised how dry it stayed. only water on the inside was from condensation. if we had opened the door we would have been flooded because the water was up to the top line of the bathtub.
for a low cost amazon tent, this thing held up pretty well. only cons i had are its fairly small if you're taller than 5'9" and not the best ventilation. but will fit 2 people snugly.

I have this tent and it's definitely worth the money. really dry tent, seams were sewn well on mine. the only beef I have with it is I wish it had a full door screen that was separate from the other door. it's a little claustrophobic not being able to see out and/or not being able to see an amazing view from the front door. plus you can't stand up in it - If I get another one, I'll probably get the 4 person one so there's more headroom.

I bought the six person one a few months back.
It's not bad for warm weather camping.
A bit chilly at night with the airflow since the tent roof is basically a screen.
I used a propane heater in it but with the airflow it was still chilly/cold.
Wall Tents with Wood Stoves are much better for my situation.
