  • The Crown Victoria and the Panther body platform is quickly becoming one of the most common budget car platforms out there. However a friend of mine was way ahead of the curve - figuring out how to properly modify the Crown Vic in a way that not only looks good, but has the performance to back up its low appearance. So is it worth building the panther body platform? Let's go for a drive and find out! Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays!

      Same I got a 97 and unfortunately a truck ran a red and destroyed the from radiator supports and messed up the hood. So I replaced the front with a 2010 front. Parts fit way too perfectly. Painted it with aircraft grade paint to protect it. Then the transmission is going out and I need to put in a new one. So the t-5 is a must. Then the stroker kit will be next.

    • @TheREALOC1972
      @TheREALOC1972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely agree! We wanna see cool cars and builds that doesn't have 100K into or does the Ole Richard Rawlings and "Just throw and LS in it". I have a 05 Grand Marquis that I have modded a lil bit (Wheels and a air box) but I just bought a 73 Regal that I'm getting ideas for too. I bought the Regal to drive while I throw a paint job on the Marquis. After I get the paint on the Marquis I'm going to build the Regal, I'm not going "Full Custom" on it but mainly because it really doesn't need much. Mostly freshen up the motor and trans and do a deep clean up on it. I'm taking the body off the frame but that's just I can do a complete paint and freshen up on the frame and all new bushings and paint of the suspension and clean up and undercoat the car at the same time. Then I'm just going to repaint the car and clean up the interior, nothing outlandish. I've priced everything out and I'm looking at about 2k in parts including paint for the frame and suspension another 1000-1500 for the paint job including putty, primer and paint, the wheels are going to be some mid 70's Camaro Rallys that I already have, and I live Northwest Arizona and it's been a local car it's entire life so there's absolutly no cancer on the car what so ever just some surface rust. I bought the car for $2300 and i'm figuring another $4500 into it to I'll have around 8 k into the car all in once it's done.

    Did something similar to mine but I'm not gutted and I don't have a 5 speed swap.....yet. It's a 2005 P71 I got for $2100. I have a Marty Ochs 93 octane tune good for a solid 10-15hp over the stock 250hp and firmer shift points with a quicker torque converter lockup. Rebuilt the front suspension including a new steering rack and steering shafts. Billet aluminum rear control arms to stop the rear end from deflecting on corner entry. 2011 V6 Mustang wheels to save 10lbs per corner although I tried to get RPF1s and they wouldn't fit over the enormous hub unfortunately. As for tires I have Conti Extreme Contacts in 255/45R17 and man these things are sticky for such a high treadwear. I also took out the absolutely trashed stock drivers seat and replaced it with a cheap racing bucket seat from god only knows where since there are no identifying marks on it anywhere. Word of advice to anybody who wants to do this to a Crown Vic. Skip the 2003-2005 cars. They have some weird transitional "well this fits only if your car is built on the second Thursday in December but only if the line worker was wearing a blue shirt" type shit. Try a Lincoln then, or Grand Marquis they started in 1978 to 2012 the chassis remained almost identical up to 1998 when they added the Watts Link, in 2003 they added rack and pinion steering which is desirable, however the '03's have weaker axle shafts. If you found an older one you CAN swap the entire chassis out for a newer one with all the newer suspension goodies...almost anything is possible and a lot has already been done.

    They look funny with the side trim removed (doors look too big). I like the manual swap and shorter gears. Would be worth a PI head and intake swap for sure. Racing seats are cool, but I would have left the headliner, pillars, and backseat (they don't weigh enough to make much difference on that yacht.)

    Yep, this cars are getting hot, the HOT builds out here in the Southwest/West now are the mid-late 70's cars of the Big 3, because like the Panther Body you can still pick them up in running and driving condition for under 3 grand, I'm one of those that now own both though. My daily driver is a 05 Grand Marquis and I just bought a 73 Buick Regal for $2300 and not only drove it almost 100 miles home but after putting new tires and wiper blades on it passed inspection and is now tagged and titled in my name with having less then 3k total into it. Yes it needs some work but because it's been a Eastern California/Northwestern Arizona car it's entire life there is no body or frame rot and the engine and trans, although could use some freshing up, the car IMO is a solid 8.5 base to build off of. My marquis has some mods, air Intake and wheels but now that I have the Regal I can throw a paint job on it. It's that Arizona Beige Stock color with Beige Interior and it's so ugly it's cool but Like my daddy used to "if it's ugly just go with it and make it cool and ugly." so I'm going to 2 tone it, the original color on the bottom and Root Beer Brown on the top with a orange or red pinstripe.

    1992 Crown Vic was probably my favorite car besides my current one. This one looks setup pretty much exactly how I always talked about doing mine, but I wanted a dohc 5.4 everything else is exactly how I wanted mine. My brother needed a car that would fit his kids when he moved back north so he took it and it eventually got crushed, still makes me sour to think about.

      When I went to auto body school there was a guy in my class that had a stripped and lowered miata that he actually sold because he couldn't keep up with me in the vic. Most people don't realize that they had almost perfect weight distribution from the factory, something like 51/49

      I had a low mileage rust FREE county sherif’s brown and tan. Piped it with h-pipe and high flow cats, swapped the tires, and then just RAN that dang ole cat. It was a very stressful and frustrating time for me, and I would take that stress out on my car… and it seemed to like it. I kept the overdrive off, and it seemed to shift better the more I beat on it. Never burned a drop of oil, never so much as a hiccup. Then I had a situation where I HAD to sell it immediately, because I needed money and had no way to come up with it fast enough. Kid who bought it thanked me, and then proceeded to take the title, hand me half of what I was asking, got a block down the road, and slammed it into a sign… he drove away, but I think I literally cried, and I’ve been looking for a county brownie like that one ever since.
      Give me a month, and I’ll have one again. Got a bit of a budget coming, and I’ve got one, finally, that I think is worth buying. Gonna manual swap it, build the rear end with 4.33, throw some stage 2 cams in a fresh set of heads, bolt ons, straight pipes with some cheap mufflers and packs, tune. I will NEVER sell that car again. I have owned vettes, focus st’s, all kinds of cool cars, but that vic was my favorite car by far. That’s the car I wanna leave to my kid someday.

    The Panther platform has moved into the spot that the '77-'96 GM B-Body (esp. the '94-'96 LT1 powered years) was in the late '90's and early 2000's. Plentiful examples coming out of Municipal/Law Enforcement fleets, cheap prices for generally well maintained cars at the auctions, great handling suspension setup in spite of their size, cars that were designed not so be the cutting edge of technology at the time but designed first and foremost to be easy to maintain and to last forever. In other a great under the radar project car material .This is coming from a '95 Caprice 9C1 (mechanically identical to the Impala SS) owner.

      I've got a 2000 MGM. I'm looking at trading up to a 6R80 tranny instead changing the differential. The six speed will give better starts, the overdrive will lower highway revs just a smidge. Add heads, cams, Accufab throttle body, Marauder airbox and long tubes...
      And I'll enjoy every minute of it's newfound oomph in amazing comfort.

    The 03+ crown vic handle way better than the older ones. Plus, what a lot of people don't realize, is that they make great tow vehicles! Essentially the same engine, trans, and rear end on a body--on-frame car as a F150. Taxi cab drivers run these cars into the 700k+ miles range. If you want to get a retired police car, really check it over. They were run to death! I think the later ones will show you the idle hours too. you take the idle hours and multiply that by 60, and add that to the odometer. It gives you an idea of the actual miles on the engine. However, the retired police cars are the way to go. They have oil and trans coolers from the factory, and a lot of them have that pimp spotlight on the a-pillar.
