Bo's car is super clean, he is an awesome guy and has as much love for the 3800 community as the rest of us. I currently daily drive a turbod 3800 for the passed 16 years and have 285,000+ miles on it and beat on it daily at 25-35lbs of boost. The 3800 is an awesome engine paired with one of the worst trannys lol. Glad you finally got to review a 3800, and a great one for that fact.!
@@sandvick1 what’s your IG? Or his? I just picked up a 95 olds 88 with a 3800 series.. 58,200 original miles. I’d love some tips and points on which direction to look at for quality parts
About 50 people have sent me this video. Thanks for the shoutout. Believe it or not Bo’s car is pretty mild. Mine makes 800+ with not much else. Stock bottom end. Engines are very tough to kill.
We still have our 2003 GS that now my son drives back and forth to school. Ported supercharger, ZZP Headers, high ratio rockers, 3.3 pulley making about 320 hp when it has the performance tune and high octane gas. Detuned, makes 290 all day long, and averaged 27.5 mpg driving 80 plus, for two days on a trip to Florida. Now has 187,000 miles and doesn't burn a drop.I love the car too much to part with it. Plus when I drive it, its fun to roll past people who think its a slow beater.
This car is proof that you don't need the best looking car or an extremely fast car as long as it's clean it has my respect, I never would have expected to like this car but it's amazing how some wheels, suspension, and some clean paint can make any car look fantastic. Not to mention it has 400HP!
I remember when these were new on the lots - not many were produced with the supercharger, but mainly with the NA v6. Nice to see someone keep one on the road and have some mods thrown at it.
i have a 2003 bonneville SSEi. i bought the car and thought about it a little bit, am i going to run this car in the winter. NOPE. i have had it probably 3 years now, if i drove it in the winter it would be likely getting close to scrap. the SSEi is an enjoyable car, not many made and very few remain today. i drive the car regularly in the summer but it sits during the salt infested winters.
There may not be many supercharged regals but there were a good bit of the supercharged grand prix gtp's. Basically the same car. They are a fun car to drive and they move out pretty good for what they are. I've always wanted to take the supercharged 3.8 out of a gtp and swap it into a Fiero gt with 5 speed. I've seen a few built and they seem to be a riot.
I am currently supercharging the 3800 in my buick lucerne, because everyone in my friend group keeps calling her slow. So im going to hurt some feelings @@ziptiejedi5658
I love that people are starting to discover this generation GS. They were amazing cars and for the era they flew . Then the folks that upgraded them man did they have something special. That 3800 was bullet proof !!!!!!
This car, grand prix gxp and olds lss were bad ass granny cars at the time. All ran the same motor i believe. I know they all had a 3.8l and superchargers so I'm assuming its the same powerplant. Nobody really appreciated them back then, I'm so glad they're coming back into the scene.
I believe the 3800 is literally invincible. You don't know how much I beat the shit out of mine, how little I take care of it. I've been on the last mark on the dipstick more times than I changed it on time. When I drive it's full throttle or no throttle. If I'm not doing a 0-60 test, I am going to 100... The engine is perfect, my tranny is slipping from 1 to 2 though now HAHAHA
Miss my 3800 every day. I had a 2dr GP and it went like hell! So much faster and built so much better quality and a lot stronger than my now Challenger, no joke! Glad to see there's still some 3800s around!
i have 2. a 2003 bonneville SSEi and a 1997 grand prix SE 3800. both are in great shape, the SSEi stays off the road in the winter. i drive a 2022 crosstrek subaru in the winter. i have had people question me, why do i drive the new car in the winter. 1. it's AWD 2. 3800 supercharged cars are becoming less common, i have owned multiple bonnevilles and only 1 SSEi, these cars are nearly extinct.
My dad drove one of these when I was in high school - it was the car I learned to drive on and took my drivers test on the day I turned 16. My parents brought both cars so I could drive home on my own, in the Regal. At the exit of the licensing place, making sure my dad was following directly behind me in my rearview mirror, I turned off traction control and laid a big smoky burnout. I looked back and saw my dad nervously chuckling, maybe a biiit upset. But that was a fun car. Quickest sedan to 60 when it was new at 6.4 seconds. Fun times were had in that Buick.
No. The GS and the GTP had the 4T65HD. Basically the guts of a 4L90 turned sideways. Only weak links in the drive train is the axles and the convertor. Upgrade those and it's basically bulletproof.
I absolutely love the Buick Regal GS. I miss my 02 Regal GS. The only downside about them is the transmission can't handle the amount the torque they put out. The 3800 V6 is bulletproof.
@@seanray723 you wont make 450 on a pulley alone. NO way. i did a pulley and supporting mods on my SSEi i would say 30 horsepower over stock, if im lucky. it was without a question noticeable.
Hey I was looking at getting that grill he has from you guys but I can't seem to find it on your website maybe I'm just missing it any help would be appreciated tho
The Pontiac Bonneville back in 88 with the 3800 was nothing to be messed with. It had its issues with the egr system, however, it always set you in your seat when you rodded on it.
I had an 89 me and my dad done a few things too and working at the shop I was at the time they didn't think it'd burn the tires up the road well sure enough there faces hit the floor one day I left the shop lol😂 they were like wth you do to that thing 😆 🤣
ZZP is still killing the game. Buying stuff from them, seeing the shop in person amazing memories. My cobaltSS back in the mid-2000s made the same power as this car. ZZP just constantly improved on platforms for cars most wouldn't, and it's why a lot of us on the cobaltss fourms back in the day loved seeing them post and interact with us.
Yes! When I saw the ZZP logos on this car, it brought back some Great memories. I had an SS/SC that I converted to turbo mainly using ZZP. They were great to work with then and it sounds like that’s still true.
Thank you... Cuz my 1997 Buick Regal GS did not have those seats it had comfortable seats but the head rest was a odd rectangular hole in the middle which reduced those seats comfort
@@EvanAxer I actually kind of liked the head rest in my 01 and 04 grand prix because I could wear a hat backwards and the bill of the hat would go right through that hole
Those 3800 supercharged engines are something else. I have an 04 Impala SS with the 3800 supercharged and i has about 150k miles on it. It's worn out, idles up and down, leaks oil from the valve covers, has a coolant leak, but it still runs smooth. Doesn't smoke , knock, or tick. I put a K&N cold air intake on it and it gave it a noticable boost. My trans probably needs a rebuild also but the car is still a beast. That damn angine will out last the body that's for sure.
My favorite sleeper is my daily 06' Accord Coupe 6spd manual with a J35a7 Honda J-Series V6 engine, 69/68mm Turbo on 7.8psi making 560whp and 470wtq. Obviously biased but we built it using all of our HLP Products (HalferLand Performance Products specializing in Honda J-Series Performance Parts) and this setup alone has over 35k miles on the engine and no issues but trans thus far 😎😏
My wife currently has one of these, a 2002 that I've asked her to see about doing a couple things to, but all it has is a turbo kit and valve springs? That's impressive
I used to drive the LS version of this car in college back in the day. That 3.8 v6 engine is extremely an underrated bullet proof engine. So comfortable torquey as hell and easy to drive! Only bad thing was the exterior paint finishes on these cars was trash.
In aus we have the 3.8l and 5.7l in rwd configuration cars, called the commodore, one of the best cars ever made, if US would’ve sold them, the 3.8l platform would be much cheaper to boost and work, but they’re coming in as a viable boost eater, after market heads at a good price need to be built or it’s a pain to keep them making power, big iron heat sink.
@@gamerdrive5565 Im surr we will get there. We started to use turbosmart and other Australian technologies, and more americans know about aussie cars than ever. Not to mention that 25 year rule is creeping up...
@@toddthezondalover645 it’s about to pop off you’re god damn right, cleets had a vy commodore ute roller in his lot for ages, that’s coming up in a big way at some point.
@@gamerdrive5565 Very excited for Au cars. Just as much as Jp cars, but hopefully these will be less inflated in price. I twin turbo 3800 Commodore would be awesome. We have the 3800 Firebird and Camaro over here too, so there is already some potential there. Falcons excite me even more because its a completely new thing to us.
Every single one of these cars of this design … pontiacs olds Buick chevys.. are well made solid cars so they start well on a solid base. Add performance mods and you’re on your way. And yes the Buick regal gs is my fovorite iteration of these cars followed by the Bonneville gts and gpz cars
I had my regal for 5 years. same color as this one. It was my baby. Borla exhaust, smaller pulley, and a bunch of other mods done to it over the years. I wrecked it back in june, but i miss that car to this day. Great to see a regal on this channel.
Also, I will NEVER forget that Sleepers video. That's what first got me interested in the L67 3.8L V6. One of my first cars was a 1989 Chevy Beretta GT with a 2.8 garbage V6 that had blown head gaskets, and I REALLY wanted to swap in a supercharged L67, but I was 15 years old and didn't have any money. I grew up to become a car detailer for multiple dealerships (as I moved alot), and one of them was Ron Slivka Buick in Brandon, Florida (REAL close to Tampa). I drove many GS Buicks and Rivieras, so I grew to really love the L67. This was back in 1999 or 2000. I REALLY wanted to swap the 2.8 out of my Beretta for a L67 and turbocharge it eventually, but I never got the chance to due to me being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and being given 90 days to live. Obviously I outlived that estimate, but I have always still been left with the hunger. Right now I am on my 69th vehicle since then and I have a 1997 EJ8 Honda Civic coupe with a fully built LSVTEC turbo that makes 709 whp, and I also have a 2004 Acura TL that I am currently turbocharging, so that'll be fun too, with a six speed manual swap. Something has always drawn me back to these L67 swaps though...
I work right next to ZZP on 28th st and see this car sitting out front all the time. interesting to see it in my recommended it always catches my eye and they always have something cool parked in front.
2003 Regal GS Joseph Abboud edition was the first nice car I ever owned. Prior to that I had a 93 SHO I purchased for $250 that was all rotted out and the guy who sold it to me stripped out the sub and amp that came stock. The SHO was quick and a little peppier but that Regal was special. I wanted to get a mercury marauder but the prices were insane. When my SHO died and I was shopping for a car in 2007. A 2002 Marauder with 100k miles on it was going for about $15k. I was able to get my mint special edition Regal with only 13k miles on it for $10k. That car was special. The only mods I did were full exhaust, smaller super charger pulley, some intake work and tune. The look on 350z and mustang owners faces was so gratifying when they got left in the dust by the grandpa mobile. They would laugh at me when we lined up and would have an utter look of confusion on their faces when they shifted into second and I rocketed away. The gears were sooooo ridiculously long but that was part of it's charm. You couldn't floor it before 40mph or the tires would break loose but once you had traction it just pulled forever. No pesky gear changes necessary. It used to be able to run the quarter mile without shifting out of second.... I'm sorry if anyone actually read all this as there is no point aside from the fact that it was an extremely special car. The turbo swap wasn't necessary and I remember the guys who did it were disappointed. The same amount of money for the turbo setup could be spent elsewhere with much higher gains. I miss that car so much. She took all the abuse I could throw at her without an issue. It was the sitting that killed it. She needed to be driven and I failed her. I wish I could go back in time and do things differently.
This is absolutely one of the best 6 cylinders ever made. I've known people to get 800+ hp. Out of these 6 cylinders. They are also very much the torque monsters of the v6 world.
I love the GS, it was a really quick couch. My neighbor had one in black, and it was the more modern grand national, I know the GNX was badass, but the GS was definitely the definition of a sleeper
I did this exact thing in highschool, and it's what started my life as a car guy. Gold 2001 Pontiac grand prix gtp with a 6266 ebay turbo kit and all the juice zzp could put at it. Stock 5 spokes fit 225 m/t without an issue and looked like stock tires so it was troll city considering everything from the outside was stock. Full cloth grey interior that smelled like a cigarette, and I never pulled up with less than 2 people in it. Worked on it with the local good ol boys since it was a small town, but we made sure to pull up at shady side every weekend and troll anything and everything in the parking lot. And we weren't worried about blowing anything, at the time these cars could be had for 250-500$ all day long at the auction, so we would just buy another car if stuff broke on the first. We actually killed a couple regale and Bonnevilles before settling on the grand prix. It was the lightest of the w body cars and it took 5 minutes to strip the interior of one and turn them into dirt slayers. God I miss these things. Now a good example is 5k lmfao.
Just bought my first supercharged 3800, 07 Grand Prix GT. Can confirm, this front wheel drive car is fun to drive, and the weird exhaust sound throws me back to my high school days in the 90's when everyone was rockin' their dad's LeSabre
I really like and appreciate builds like this. It's different and unique. Makes me want to do something similar... Buick has always been slept on though hence the name "sleeper".
My first car was a 1996 Buick Riviera with a supercharged 3.8 V6. 2 door coupe black, and I did all the things an 18 year old car kid would do, tinted windows 20 inch rims and 2 12’s/ 2 15’s with 3000 watts rms of power in the trunk that shook the block lol. Buick still to this day is/and was my favorite car I could earn enough to own being a lower class citizen. Love Buick’s and still miss that car to this day.
It's actually getting really hard to find those supercharged W-Body cars in decent condition. The 3800 sounds similar to the turbo 3.8 in the Grand National. This is on a similar sleeper level as the 80s Buick T-Type, especially the turbo limited which had those pillow back bench seats, column shift and chrome trim but had the Grand National drivetrain.
I had my 2000 Bonneville SSEi in the parking lot of a hotel about 1.5 years ago or so. Went out to have a smoke at one point and found a note on the driver seat. Someone wanted to buy it. I was pretty amused as it is pretty darn clapped out body wise and has some odd interior mods.
My grandparents had a 2001 Buick Regal LS and the 3800 series 2 in that was surprisingly quick N/A. The right was very comfy too, I always wanted to drive a GS, that extra 40hp and 80tq would have made quite the difference.
The Dragon is in my backyard(figuratively). Better than OEM brakes, suspension and most importantly, TIRES. I ran BF Goodrich most of the time and Pirelli a couple of times on a stock '94 v6 Camero with slight tweaks in the front end and kept in line with just about anything. I'm currently working on a '01 Vic. Brakes are done, nothing fancy, PowerStop kit. Replaced crap intake manifold, ngk plugs, accel coils(I liked the color), Monroes best shocks they had, new swaybar bushings, endlinks, upper and lower ball joints, tierods are next. Currently doing cloyes timing kit, Ford performance oil pump, "pursuit" water pump. Going to put some miles on her and stack up for a trans kit, rear end and Massive Traction system. Build stuff, have fun, be safe.
Thank you David for such great presentation! One of the best V6 engines ever built. Cheap, reasonably lightweight, compact, and highly tunable, ... 😳 My favorite sleeper " Chevy SS , obviously stick (swap SS emblems for Impala emblems)😀
My first car was my grandmas old 1992 buik regal custom with the 3800 tuned port injection, in champagne gold. I loved that car, all my friends were so surprised at how much get up it had when I'd beat them in little drag races. It rode really smooth too, a little boaty but I loved it. It ended up being passed down to my niece and stayed in the family, so I was happy at about that at least.
I had a 99 GS Regal. It was awesome. It was BONE stock and I raced a Honda Civic and beat him big time. There were some upgrades for the supercharged engine. 1) small pulley for the supercharger. 2) U-bend delete for the exhaust. 3) flash the ECM for more performance. I had seen some other Regals and Park Ave Ultras that were modded and they were pulling around 400-500hp. It was crazy seeing these cars doing some road ripping. 😳🤯
That 3.8 V6 is VERY respectable. One of the greatest engines ever made. Bulletproof reliable in stock form and capable of putting down serious power when modded. What you've got there is essentially a FWD GNX.
When I was younger I had a 98 Eldorado ESC, I sent the heads out got ported and polished and replaced the cams, some other things. Long story short that 4,000lb land yacht hurt many mustang owners feelings. It was priceless
@@Iroc3132 I have a set in my Grand Prix and had some for my Regal LS (same body style). I was was actually going to do a turbo manual swap when I had my Buick but I ended up getting my Mustang GT and I sold the Buick. Also that grill and the rear exhaust exits are SLP options (I have a set of the cut out for the rear bumper) and as far as the front grill is very rare to find.
I myself would like to think I drive a "sleeper". It's a 2016 Chevy sonic RS, stage 2. All zzperformance parts. Really fun car around the city. Hope you do a review on one soon, would love to see it. Great content, you're slaying it dude
@@Riv_Flow honestly I'm not sure. I bought the car from out of state. And when it arrived, It already had everything on it. Would love to know myself what the numbers are.
I use to have a lumina that use to be a police car and either somewhere down the line or for the police it got a supercharged 3.8 in it. The sound of that engine is really amazing for what it is.
The first platform I ever made power with... Got up to 480 wheel horsepower in a GTP and a 76 mm turbo and then the same turbo on a regal GS making 600 wheel horsepower but I couldn't keep bearings in it and eventually lost interest
For those that don't know this engine, do the research, it's very similar to the regal gnx engine. There was a huge aftermarket support through the 80s-00s, a lot of those parts and all that knowledge is still available.
My grandma had basically that exact car when I was probably 10-23yo, only difference was she had Tan coloured interior, and I don’t remember her front seats being having that big of side bolsters, but maybe they did, it was a long time ago now. She actually had a Black and Grey with grey interior Buick Regal GS MK1 aswell, the previous bodystyle to the Red one in the video, but something happened to it, I was young, can’t remember, and she swapped it for the Red Mk2. Same Exterior, and GS, but obviously no engine mods, I remember travelling with both my grandparents from Toronto Area to South West Connecticut to see my uncle, their Son, and got stopped at a toll booth along the way, and while leaving and merging back into a couple lanes something or someone beside him set him off his rocker, grandpa was a nascar fan, had a lead foot, and a short temper, he stomped on the gas, the supercharger whaled it’s whine, and even at a young age in the back seat, I was like, “what the hell is in this thing?” My Dad is a Dodge Mechanic, and mostly grew up only really liking Mopars and despising basically everything else, I always had a soft spot for these cars, especially the burnt Cherry Red ones❤
This video is perfect proof why I have a 2001 1MZ V6 Camry with a TRD supercharger on it! I call it the "Gentleman's Sport Sedan"! It isn't fast by today's standards, but it is fast for what it is AND it is reliable! Great video! Love the car!
My fav is the Saab 9-3, but the SportCombi, which is the wagon. Not the Saabaru. Came turbo and optional 6-speed manual. I two-toned mine, which is black, with charcoal front lip, side skirts and rear bumper lip. NO ONE knows what it is.
3800 series are monsters. They put out some good numbers stock. I used to piss my step dad off in my 98 oldsmobile intrigue. He had a stock mustang gt, I had an intake... he couldn't gap my 3.8. The engine and transmission in mine held up to 230k abusive miles and still ran strong when I sold it. I never drove it in drive. U could slam gears in that thing and she took it. Used to start in first, slam second n smoke the tires. Be doin 55 and bump it down to 2nd n pull up to 80. That car took AL kinds of abuse and never had any problems other than water pump.
Voegtlin progressive rate springs, KYB AGX struts, 9C1 sway bars & trailing arms, Pontiac GTP (higher durometer rubber than the (9C1) LCA's, Monte Carlo inner fender-to-core support bars, Paul Rome strut tower brace to adapt the front strut brace on the rear... just using an example of the suspension on how you don't need to buy a "Kit"- save some money. I've had one of these for 24 years. It's even got a LSD in the transaxle
David, you need to test out the '12-'17 Regal GS models! Had optional AWD and even a 6-speed available (FWD-only). '12-'13 came with the 2.0T LHU platform, then moved onto the LTG platform in the '14-'17. I have a '13 that is my daily and it is a fun car, and surprises a lot of people. 270hp/295tq, with a decent amount of aftermarket support.
I had a 1993 Buick road master that with the 4 speed trans and it was hilarious. It was the a limited and had a 5.7l LT1. We went to the junkyard and got a big ass turbo off of an old flatbed. The road master was rear wheel drive and it was ridiculously fun. We put an exhaust cutout on it so that I could drive it around with the nice quiet exhaust but if I wanted to mess around I could flip the switch and have open exhaust a few inched from the downpipe. I miss that car to be honest. I should have never sold it. It had super comfortable seats, power everything, and the stock speakers were actually great. I put a single Walmart 12" sub in a sealed box in the trunk and got one of the cassette tape to auxiliary cord adapters. I would not hesitate to buy another one if I find one in good condition. The one I had was an old man's car and he had every single service receipt from when he bought the car brand new in March of 1993.
I grew up driving a 90 3.0 and a 93 3.8 Taurus, so the 1st and 2nd gen SHOs were always on my mind. Looking back now, I’d put the Marauder toward the top of my list but would also include the Turbocoupe, Mark VIII, and Mazdaspeed6.
@@Hunnisloot stock 3800 seriess II is good for 500 at the most, anything above is rolling the dice. The stock engine only put out 240-260hp depending on which supercharger it came with. You can verify with ZZPerformance or Intense Racing the two companies who did the most R&D for the 3800 series II
That tone difference you were hearing is because the 3800 series engines are 90 degree engines vs the 60 degree you hear on most newer v6's of today. I love these engines, bullet proof, and easily modded. I had a 1996 Buick Riviera L67 engine, and I miss it dearly. I wish I never would have sold it.. Had big plans for that car. Maybe I'll find an 8th gen Riviera again someday. Maybe sooner than later.. Also, Buicks throughout history have been good performance as well. One of the fastest muscle car during that era, was the 1970 Buick GSX 455 Stage 1. I'm 33 and I'd buy a Buick again in a heartbeat (first car was a 1969 Buick LeSabre 400.. another car I regret selling..). Comfy, quiet ride, and good styling to boot? Yes please...
I have always wanted one of the Rivieras with the L67 to build like this car! I would put a NA intake manifold on it and turbo it though, but the Eaton M90 can handle alot. I also had a 1990 Thunderbird SuperCoupe with the T5 trans and it was fast too.
Those old 3800 V6’s, especially Series II were bulletproof and so easy to mod. I had a 98 Grand Prix GTP with smaller pulley and bolt ons like throttle body, rockers, pushrods, intake, exhaust, and a Digital Horsepower reprogrammed PCM. It would take down Mustangs, Camaros, and many others at the track. The community was strong back then.
Amazing video and thank you for breaking it down!! Despite the economic downturn, I'm so happy I have been earning $ 60,000 returns from my $9,000 investment every 21days.🏆
@Donald McKenzie I just withdraw my profits a week ago, it was so shocking when I withdrew $32,450 knowing I invested $3,000. I wish I could reinvest but, too much bills
I had a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix with an almost identical build as this. 3800 with a 6262 precision turbo. Dynoed at 440whp. I also had the ZZP ST5 Turbo Cam in my engine. Boy did that cam bring that V6 to life! The idle was very aggressive. It turned a lot of heads especially when the turbo would light up. This car got a lot of attention at the meets because it's just not something you see every day.
I remember that sleepers video. I've had two Northstar STSs, a 2012 regal GS manual, a Pontiac G8 GT and a Chevy SS. I love sleepers and this is a great video. Do a full series about sleepers!!
At the beginning you mentioned 1st Gen Taurus SHO but, showed a 2nd Gen one which is what I had in Black and Tan. Yamaha originally designed the engine with their 5-Valve Genesis head layout derived from their FZR750 and it was putting out around 300 HP. Ford didn't want that much power in a FWD so they detuned it with a 4-valve head. The motor could still rev to 8500 but, they rev limited it to 7300 to save accessories like alternator and A/C compressor. Sleeper cars have been around since at least the 60's but, probably even earlier than that.
I work at a Firestone, and someone brought in a Fiero with a sick swap- the supercharged 3.8 from one of these, it was a super cool and really clean swap

idk why people think its weird you can make any car fast with money
When new these things were clean af.
Well said sir. 👏
The 3800 is one of the best motors ever made. Like you said, it's bulletproof. I'll die on this hill
This car, grand prix gxp and olds lss were bad ass granny cars at the time. All ran the same motor i believe. I know they all had a 3.8l and superchargers so I'm assuming its the same powerplant. Nobody really appreciated them back then, I'm so glad they're coming back into the scene.
I beat the crap out of a Grand Prix GTP for 250,000 miles. Still ran great when I sold it, but rust was really starting to take its toll.
That fireball 3800 i drove for 2years on 5cylinders.
I have a 91 riviera
This is the cleanest Buick I've ever seen. The aesthetic and the mods are just perfect.
Also am I the only one who was so worried about the 4t65e every time David hit the gas? 😂😂
Nah facts😂😂😂
I’m wondering if the transmission is stock 😂 like damn
Lol. True story.
I’d bet that trans has upgraded parts it’s Bo from Zzp car
I agree. Had the same engine in my Grand Prix GT. 3800 was a beast but the tranny was shit. ... J
Bonne SSE supercharged changed pulley and was like about 450 hp
Gotta rebuild the trans
@@seanray723 you wont make 450 on a pulley alone. NO way. i did a pulley and supporting mods on my SSEi i would say 30 horsepower over stock, if im lucky. it was without a question noticeable.
My 00 blew up 😢
Bo's Regal has been a fan favorite of ours for a while. Glad you enjoyed the ride!
Hey I was looking at getting that grill he has from you guys but I can't seem to find it on your website maybe I'm just missing it any help would be appreciated tho
@@georgelacasse8306 thats a GSX grill with the zzp badge slapped on it
What yr is this?
The Pontiac Bonneville back in 88 with the 3800 was nothing to be messed with. It had its issues with the egr system, however, it always set you in your seat when you rodded on it.
I Remember the 92 Bonneville se I bought cheap with over 200,000 mi I had about 278k when I got rid of it still running good but body shot.✌️
I had an 89 me and my dad done a few things too and working at the shop I was at the time they didn't think it'd burn the tires up the road well sure enough there faces hit the floor one day I left the shop lol😂 they were like wth you do to that thing 😆 🤣
That car is sick. Cool build. I had a 2000 Pontiac GTP years back with a cam, pulley, etc… and that thing was a serious sleeper.
my 02 would do epic burnouts
ZZP is still killing the game. Buying stuff from them, seeing the shop in person amazing memories. My cobaltSS back in the mid-2000s made the same power as this car. ZZP just constantly improved on platforms for cars most wouldn't, and it's why a lot of us on the cobaltss fourms back in the day loved seeing them post and interact with us.
Yes! When I saw the ZZP logos on this car, it brought back some
Great memories. I had an SS/SC that I converted to turbo mainly using ZZP. They were great to work with then and it sounds like that’s still true.
Fun fact: Those "luxury" seats are actually from an 05-08 grand prix gxp. Love the video!
I thought so too
Yup, and they're great seats
Thank you... Cuz my 1997 Buick Regal GS did not have those seats it had comfortable seats but the head rest was a odd rectangular hole in the middle which reduced those seats comfort
@@EvanAxer I actually kind of liked the head rest in my 01 and 04 grand prix because I could wear a hat backwards and the bill of the hat would go right through that hole
Also if anyone wondering i believe the shifter if from a Bonneville gxp
Builds like these are why I watch channels like TDIB and Roads Untraveled. Unique unique unique.
About 10 years ago these and their series 2 3800 sc siblings were some of the most fun on a budget you could get.
What do you guys think of this Buick?
Side note my mini documentary comes out Sunday - Car Culture:2012 vs 2022.
it's a clean ride😎
Love it! Thanks for doing a video on a 3800! They can handle a lot more than 400 reliably btw!
My Turbo Grand Prix GTP gives my Procharged GTO and wife's ZL1 both a run for their money
see if you can review a 1991 ISUZU impulse RS. super rare so probably wont happen. 😅
You should hit up Kmaffittgagt and review his turbo six speed swapped grand am. One of the coolest grand ams still around.
Agree on the paint. My beige one is trash lol
For a moment, I thought the thumbnail said 400hp Turbo Brick and had a good laugh. That said, this Regal is something else and I'm here for it.
🤣🤣
I mean... you're not wrong
I work right next to ZZP on 28th st and see this car sitting out front all the time. interesting to see it in my recommended it always catches my eye and they always have something cool parked in front.
I had the non GS Regal with the N/A 3800 V6. It was surprisingly quick and had tons of torque down low. This turbo GS is really unique. Great video!
The Boost Moose! Bo's Regal is an absolute riot. It was hilarious watching people pull off for home when we were at TOTD. Haha
This is absolutely one of the best 6 cylinders ever made. I've known people to get 800+ hp. Out of these 6 cylinders. They are also very much the torque monsters of the v6 world.
No car has surprised me as much as a mid 90's (I think) Taurus SHO that I drove working at a body shop to get an alignment. That boat was moving.
The 5 speed embarrassed mustang gt owners
My was the GMC SYCLONE. FASTER THAN A TWIN TURBO 300ZX that I drove both
Typhoon gmc
I love the GS, it was a really quick couch. My neighbor had one in black, and it was the more modern grand national, I know the GNX was badass, but the GS was definitely the definition of a sleeper
Glad to see these old boats getting some love❤️ I have a soft spot for a lot of old Buick’s
On my second century. So simple and reliable great daily drivers
If you like this, you're gonna love the videos on the square body AND 2011 Stinkin' Lincolns. Especially that square body thang smh
I have one and I love it. I've actually beaten some WRXs with just exhaust and a mild tune done to my Regal.
I've saw the 650+ HP OMG words can't explain.... Monster V6 demon my goodness
Ford's Taurus sho was slept on too. It was beating mustangs

3800 sounds like the turbo 3.8 because... It is. It's about 3 gens newer than the Buick 3.8T though so it's a bit more emissions friendly
Yea, reminded me of grand national. Even a 87 gn stock
Buick 231, fundamentally.
@@sazzyPheox I wouldn't say it's the same. It was completely redesigned with a better block, guts, and especially heads.
Back in 07 I had a 98 Buick park avenue ultra. It had the 3.8 supercharged V6. The 3800 series II engine is one of my favorite engines.
Having boost ramped in is probably a hell of an upgrade for transmission life and tire spin.
That's a good point actually
My grandparents had a 2001 Buick Regal LS and the 3800 series 2 in that was surprisingly quick N/A. The right was very comfy too, I always wanted to drive a GS, that extra 40hp and 80tq would have made quite the difference.
I love this build so much. so clean. one of the coolest cars youve reviewed in a while
Love the visual of the crucifix going horizontal on the pulls. Fantastic!
Can get driver to Mass and K of C bingo VERY QUICKLY...
This is an amazing build. Total respect!

I agree 👍 😃😅, I love my '01!
Dang this is a GEM! 12 sec quarter mile! SSSHHHHEEESSSSHHH! My favorite sleeper is the Mitsubishi Galant VR4.
Prime example of why I still love this channel over the years you have stayed true to what like
I had this, had a beefed up the Supercharger. Was such a fun car. I was pushing 350+, I loved the whine from the Super 👌
The 3.8(3800) engine in the regal, grand prix, Bonneville, etc. was a very strong engine. These cars took a lot of sport cars by surprise.
I love Bo’s car. Those look like Grand Prix gxp seats. Awesome platform, owned a GTP comp g myself.
CompG 👊🏽
I had a 99 GS Regal. It was awesome. It was BONE stock and I raced a Honda Civic and beat him big time. There were some upgrades for the supercharged engine. 1) small pulley for the supercharger. 2) U-bend delete for the exhaust. 3) flash the ECM for more performance. I had seen some other Regals and Park Ave Ultras that were modded and they were pulling around 400-500hp. It was crazy seeing these cars doing some road ripping. 😳🤯
I had a few of these back in the day. The key to unlocking power is getting rid of the u bend in the exhaust. Should be your first mod.
That 3.8 V6 is VERY respectable. One of the greatest engines ever made. Bulletproof reliable in stock form and capable of putting down serious power when modded. What you've got there is essentially a FWD GNX.
A friend of mine in college had the supercharged regal. That thing could roll out!
When I was younger I had a 98 Eldorado ESC, I sent the heads out got ported and polished and replaced the cams, some other things. Long story short that 4,000lb land yacht hurt many mustang owners feelings. It was priceless
The GXP seats make a huge difference
I was gonna say those aren't stock regal seats haha

LOVE THE VIDEO
The first platform I ever made power with... Got up to 480 wheel horsepower in a GTP and a 76 mm turbo and then the same turbo on a regal GS making 600 wheel horsepower but I couldn't keep bearings in it and eventually lost interest
I HAD a 1991 Buick Regal 2dr custom coupe. I liked that car. It rode really nicely, comfortable.
For those that don't know this engine, do the research, it's very similar to the regal gnx engine. There was a huge aftermarket support through the 80s-00s, a lot of those parts and all that knowledge is still available.
You mean the same as far as displacement? That's about the only thing they had in common
Same Exterior, and GS, but obviously no engine mods, I remember travelling with both my grandparents from Toronto Area to South West Connecticut to see my uncle, their Son, and got stopped at a toll booth along the way, and while leaving and merging back into a couple lanes something or someone beside him set him off his rocker, grandpa was a nascar fan, had a lead foot, and a short temper, he stomped on the gas, the supercharger whaled it’s whine, and even at a young age in the back seat, I was like, “what the hell is in this thing?”
My Dad is a Dodge Mechanic, and mostly grew up only really liking Mopars and despising basically everything else, I always had a soft spot for these cars, especially the burnt Cherry Red ones❤
this is super interesting and totally different. the rpf1’s look great on this car.. they look great on everything.
This is the kind of builds I like the weirder and more unique the better lol
That is a pretty sweet looking regal, plus it's pretty quick to top it off. I'd definitely drive that ride.
Damn that Regal is clean.... first time I'd choose this generation over the G Body Regal.
Finally! A 3800! 😅
As a SHO owner (due to heavy influence from David's review), this is so fun. Also, anyone see the Terminator swapped Lincoln Town Car on CarsAndBids?
Voegtlin progressive rate springs, KYB AGX struts, 9C1 sway bars & trailing arms, Pontiac GTP (higher durometer rubber than the (9C1) LCA's, Monte Carlo inner fender-to-core support bars, Paul Rome strut tower brace to adapt the front strut brace on the rear... just using an example of the suspension on how you don't need to buy a "Kit"- save some money. I've had one of these for 24 years. It's even got a LSD in the transaxle
Love the videos man... you should see what we do with these engines in Australia... especially if you think this thing is fast 😉😁
Yo. I just bought one sight unseen and found out she is a beast! I cant believe how wonderful it is. It even looks great for a 90's car.
Not comparable. The GT Legacy and Mazdaspeed6, even S60R, are in a higher class
@@Bloodcurling not comparable to what?
🏁🏁Well would you look 👀 at this …cool build indeed 😎🤙🏾
I grew up driving a 90 3.0 and a 93 3.8 Taurus, so the 1st and 2nd gen SHOs were always on my mind. Looking back now, I’d put the Marauder toward the top of my list but would also include the Turbocoupe, Mark VIII, and Mazdaspeed6.
I've been waiting for this video. With a built motor you can have a daily driven eleven second car. The 3800 engine was very under rated.
Built motor?? Huh. Stock eternal 3800s good for 700+
@@Hunnisloot stock 3800 seriess II is good for 500 at the most, anything above is rolling the dice. The stock engine only put out 240-260hp depending on which supercharger it came with. You can verify with ZZPerformance or Intense Racing the two companies who did the most R&D for the 3800 series II
@@mr.m2849 lol you're wrong. But okay, go off brother. I've been in the platform for 10 years or more now
@@Hunnisloot Now that's funny sounds like a GTP owner lol sorry i just had to!!
@@brianl6710 Junior and Jeff Kuntz both have been over 700+ on stock internals.
Sounds like a Grand National
Those driver seats are not factory. They are Grand Prix GXP seats. Thats why they are so nice still.
This must be an investment with Mr Barry Silbert
@Gavin Andresen He helped me recover what I lost trying to trade myself
@Donald McKenzie Please how do I reach out to Mr Barry Silbert? Am from London
@Donald McKenzie I just withdraw my profits a week ago, it was so shocking when I withdrew $32,450 knowing I invested $3,000. I wish I could reinvest but, too much bills
@@miguelalfaro878 I countlessly share my experience with co-workers at work, on how I made $23,000 from $2,000 in 7 days of trading
I had a 98 pontiac gtp with a ported and pullied supercharger. It was pretty snappy back in the day,I loved it.
I work at a Firestone, and someone brought in a Fiero with a sick swap- the supercharged 3.8 from one of these, it was a super cool and really clean swap
Buick Roadmaster Estate is my favorite sleeper. I did own a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO. It was pretty quick for a 4400+/- pound car.
