Motorcycle Tour of Wales Episode 7 Hirnant Pass, Lake Vymwy, Eunant Fawr Valley & Dyfi Valley

- This is the last episode in this particular series and see's me complete the Snowdonia Discovery Route. The official website that I had taken it from can be found by clicking the link below.

I start off from Lake Bala and am soon riding the Hirnant Pass through the Hirnant Vally.
Then I arrive at Lake Vymwy and begin the 10 mile ride around its perimeter including riding over the dam wall.
After Lake Vymwy I'm once again on small single carriageway roads riding through the Eunant Fawr Valley and am presented with the most amazing views down the Dyfi Valley before riding through it.
Rejoining the A470 and other normal roads I head home to the holiday park to sadly prepare for the journey home the next day.
I really hope you have enjoyed this tour of Wales with both the crew and myself and look forward to bringing you more adventures/days out and other bits and bobs.

I am fortunate enough to live in Mid Wales and had 16 years of riding my motorcycles over those roads from 1996 to 2012. Still drive my car on those routes.

@@Steve-ClarkThank you. And for the record, I bought it brand new back in 2006, and one month ago I had the very same issue you encountered with the abs pump, which has also failed on me. Because I'm attached to the bike, I paid the price to replace it, an overall 1700€ thanks to my dealership doing a rebate... I hope it'll give me 17 more goos years, but I agree this should completely be on BMW's side!

Still I had many people ask why on earth buy another but like yourself I think they are a great machine so why not.

Love this route. We (wife riding pillion) and I ride this at least once a year, from Cannock to Lake Vynwy, ride with lake to our left, turning up the single track road as you did but go right at the T junction where you went left to the viewpoint at the very top (you missed a treat that was awaiting you there), admire the views (on a clear day) then we pick up your route to the bottom and stop overnight in Dinas Mawddwy at the Y Llew Coch (Red Lion) pub. Next morning back up to the top (hairpin scary two up) and go down to Bala before returning to Cannock via the Berwyns. Both of us in our 70's and on our 58 year old Velocette Venom Clubmans along with a few mates on late 1920's and 1930's Sunbeams. We call this The Testers Run as Sunbeam in Wolverhampton used this route to test their motorcycles in the late 20's and 30's. The road was unmade in those days and the testers would do the complete journey in a day, that's what being tough is. Modern (ish) bikes, easy peasy, when I do this run other times in the year on my 1998 V-max it eats it for breakfast. Loved the vid, well done.

Love that lived not far from lake Vyrnwy, used to ride those roads in my push bike when I was a kid & now on my Z900, if you’d have followed that white car for about a 100m you’d have been at the top of Wales’s highest pass, Bwlch Y Groes, Pass of the cross, you may have seen the cross at the Junc.

Did this route again today, had to turn around after the cattle grid heading up to the top of the pass, gale force winds, nearly dropped the bike it was that bad!! One of my favourite routes now and only 35 miles from home.

Steve. We only found your channel a couple of days ago and have watched your Switzerland tour and the Wales trip. Love the content, the editing and of course the places you visit. Very inspiring. Belting finish to the days ride, love the hidden Valley ride to Vyrnwy from.Bala, I still haven't done Bwylch y Groes, where the couple in the white car turned right, a short way up is a Panoramic view point👍 once again great production mate.

Stevo nicely done great colours your capturing! Myself and the lads had a Welsh tour in late June great times . If anyones not been there on a bike trip I suggest they get there asap and enjoy .Pen Y Fan plus the Elan Valley is a must keep the good work.

That white jag that turned right back for Bala at the top of the Eunant vally, brave, its some road down there!! Not sure I'b be taking a £100k+ car down there, but loads of fun on a bike. Glad you enjoyed where I get to play on my bike.
Mark some other viewers mention a viewing area a few 100 yards from where he turned maybe he was going there, anyway lucky you living amongst at that mate.

Lake Vyrnwy nearest in English Lake Vernwee. When the water is low, you can still see remains of the village which was flooded to create the the reservoir. The water feeds Liverpool. Llanwddyn is pronounced Clan oothan. Eunant Fawr pronounced vower. Dyfi pronounced Dovey as in the bird, Dove. Dinas Mawddwy = Dinnas Mawthy. Brilliant as always but again, I did have to laugh at you struggling with Welsh. Your in my back yard, my playground. I'm not Welsh but living so close, I've learned a few words. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Dyfi is home to an Osprey breeding project which I am proud to support. The landscape of Snowdon can only be described as Mythical. I envy you living there.
Once again excellent video, fantastic end to this trilogy, particularly liked the drone footage over the damn dam lol, cant wait for your next adventure. I have just booked one of next years trips, myself, my wife and best mate are off to the Isle of Man for a week, stopping in an AirBnB in Ramsay, and riding all over the Island, I will keep you posted, meantime, as always, stay safe my mate.

Great series. I am planning five days in Wales in the spring. I'll be riding some of the same roads and I think I'll add in a couple from your last day. You're right, those single track roads remind me of Scotland.

Another enjoyable vid Steve. Nice to see the Drone up and that decent at 21mins just looked spectacular. Drove some of those roads including over the dam on our bike tour with no bikes earlier in the year ( definitely not the same in a car) . Ride safe, thanks for the vids.

First class series, especially your solo ride around Snowdonia. I stumbled across the last section of your ride back in the early 90's. I too was riding solo when I did it and you managed to convey exactly how I felt seeing such magnificent scenery before me. Watched some very good videos on other TH-cam channels of their tours around Snowdonia, but have to say, yours beats them by a mile. Bet your mates wished they'd rode with on that final day, especially when they saw your footage of the ride. Thanks for sharing.

Steve, just re-watched this one buddy if after leaving Betws y Coed you stay on the A5 for about a mile and take a right at The Conwy Falls Cafe. Go up to Penmachno and continue towards Cwm Penmachno to join the B4407, then right to join the B4391, at the junction turn right for about 0.7 ml there's a layby with very drone friendly view and view as far as the Lleyn Peninsula and towards Blaenau Ffestiniog. After stopping retrace back on the road as far as the A4212 then dogleg across the road to follow a nice lane to Rhyd Uchaf and onto Bala, with views the other side of Llyn Celyn[ they flooded the village of Tryweryn in 1965]

Looks a fantastic route Steve. Definitely will do this one. You said it was the NC500, did that last week, the big difference was, there wasn't 1000's of motor homes on your route! There were on the NC500. Spoilt it a big TBH. Thanks for sharing and making me aware of it. 👍

Really enjoyed watching this and your other videos. I have my Mod2 bike test on Monday in Nottingham….. hopefully Monday afternoon I’ll be riding around the Peak District.
This and the NC500 are on my list once I’ve got a few miles experience in on the bike. Thanks again for the videos.

HI, You've mentioned a couple of times the relationship between height and ambient temperature, if I remember correctly from my Geography classes for every 300 feet you rise the temperature drops 1 degree Fahrenheit ! Hope that assist. Cheers Neil from Thailand (again!)
