    Wales is possibly one of the best places in the uk for motorcycle touring and we want to take you with us on our trip around wales.

    Well. You really enjoyed a quiet and dry day on the black mountain. A lot of nasty accidents have lead to that limit. The roads and carparks have been really improved too. I've ridden it in torrential weather and it's really not nice.
    Average allows for some variance.
    20 mph is coming into effect in a lot of areas in Wales. Times are changing unfortunately.

      Unfortunately not everyone is sensible while riding that’s why the speed limits are so heavy on that stretch!

      @ontheroadadventure the blurb is saying anywhere with street lights close together. So really gonna have to watch. They've changed laws so all 20mphs but where safe lifted. A road by me was a 60, down to 40 and they've put street lights in the last year, and I am expecting it to reduce. A friend has been done twice in a 20mph in a town.

      @@ladyjrider666 most villages and many small towns in Scotland are 20 mph. Some only during school hours (flashing lights), some all the time. Wedmore in Somerset also has a 20 mph section past the school, I think this will be more and more common, at least near schools.

    a local road for me was great fun at quieter times trying to get your line spot on as many of the bends you can see through, luckily for me i usually only pass one of the cameras so i can still play. There are no schools, shops just a couple of car parks with good visibility and one junction again easily seen, if people cant drive mountain roads dont go to them, poxy nanny state. I used to compete on car rallies and this was a classic for that too that will never happen again, a real shame, what a sorry, boring world it is going to be. The Human spirit is becoming stifled by the likes of Drakeford, its good to see a little bit of practical reaction here and there good on ye boys and girls who do so. As others have said next time in the area get off the main roads.

    4:24 I've ridden this road countless times over more than 40 years, on all sizes of bikes...trust me, you can't safely average much more than about 40 anyway, due to the tight bends and the sheep! In fact, there are very few (and short) stretches on this road where you can do 60 for more than a few seconds, before having to slow right down for a bend. Anyway, there's nothing stopping you doing 60 if you want...just stop shortly to get your average down, before the next camera!

      We personally are not bothered by the cameras we are not knee down kind of people, but I do see people’s annoyance by them and I do think they are ugly in such a nice place. I guess it’s a shame that they are needed at all and people can’t just use their common sense

      @@ontheroadadventure Agreed. It's just yet another money-grab by the Naz...err, I mean...government. If they were genuinely concerned about the safety of motorists & riders, they'd simply put speed humps down at strategic points, But, as we know, they can't make any money out of speed humps! Also, many more deaths are caused by smoking than speeding...but the government makes a ton of money from smokers, so they're happy to let that slide. That bunch of hypocrites sicken me.

    7:24 I've always referred to it as "The Black Mountain Road", as I first started riding it almost 20 years before Top Gear even began! I think it's only newcomers who call it the "Top Gear" road. Hello from the USA. Excellent views on that ride. Hey, I'm curious to know how average speed cameras work; they are not a thing over here (yet). If you pull over at a couple of scenic overlooks for 5-10 minutes, doesn't that effectively increase your recorded travel time between the two cameras, thus reducing your average speed?

    • @ontheroadadventure
      @ontheroadadventure  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I recognised that Mustang, I must have been about 15 minutes behind you over the Black Mountain pass... my first time. I agree that 40 MPH is a bit restrictive, I do a lot of UK touring and have found lots of twisty / risky roads are 50 mph, which seems a good compromise. The problem however is not skilled riders and drivers but those who get it wrong. When it all goes wrong up there, it's far enough away from anywhere to be a real issue for the emergency services or best case for a recovery vehicle to come and get the bike / car, and going the opposite way to the way we rode it, there are some very long drops on the edge of the road! Of course there will still be accidents, people will always push it too far, so I guess only time will tell if all that camera expense was worthwhile. Still an amazing ride though.
