      Plus one for the lack of music. Never needed and if you REALLY don’t like the music, it ruins the entire video

    Where you turned right on the A4086 to join the Llanberis Pass you flashed past the Pen-y-Gwryd hotel which is where the 1953 Everest expedition team based themselves for a time as they trained in the area. Their signatures and those of other mountaneers are on the ceiling in the bar! Also, the quarry you mentioned near Dinorwig/Electric Mountain is a former major centre of the Welsh slate industry.

    at 7.43 The Boulders can be seen just where the road kinks left. There's a lay by coming up, great place to stop and soak up the atmoshere of the place where the great cimbimg pair Joe brown and Don Whillans were pushing the boundaries of rock climbing in the 1960's. Another historic and totally awsome place. Great video mate. I'm heading that way myself in a couple of weeks.

    I know a lot of people complain that the wide angle lens on the GoPro takes away the beauty of the landscape, but I have to say this tour is positively gorgeous on your video. I love it.

    The main benefit or riding on the right side of the road is that you can wave with your clutch hand and most riders do so. The nod is a back up for when your actually using the clutch lever. beautifull roads by the way.

  • @tsav6952
    @tsav6952 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here on this side of the pond, no nodding normally unless busy cornering etc, we lower and extend our left arm way out, (of course we drive on the right unless texting or drunk) and extend the first two fingers like a horizontal peace sign. This generally results in a motorcyclist waive back 95% of the time. Give that a try and see what reaction you get. :) Enjoying the tour! Cheers!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +T Sav Yes well that wave is far cooler and I enjoyed doing it when I rode in the US and Europe but of course if you drive in the left it's a non starter (unless you happen to have cruise control engaged)....so sadly I won't be trying it riding in the UK!

  • @sharpbends
    @sharpbends 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Snob nods ? Good idea for vlog perhaps. Most nods are had for identical or similar bikes it seems, Harley's nod amongst themselves, GS nods to the elder riders, motorcycle riders ignore motor scooters... A weird etiquette but not unique to two wheels either. I give a nod to any and all if there's time, even find myself doing it when walking down the street sometimes ! ;-) Enjoying the tour. Cheers

    • @sharpbends
      @sharpbends 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Got a riders nod once when I was out the front of house pushing lawnmower, thought that was hilarious!

    • @stephenmarseille5425
      @stephenmarseille5425 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally find it's mostly the Harley riders who snob out about it. Actually, even 'worse' than that, if I nod or wave at them, they'll just stare me down as I pass. So it's even more of a deliberate act of disdain than refraining from a nod... yeesh. I'll nod at any motorized two wheels, we're all brothers and sisters out here!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I nod at bikes when I'm, walking along the street too!! ...curiously they often do nod back then!

    • @anroadking
      @anroadking 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Been riding for 45 years, Harleys since 1998, I'll nod or wave at any two-wheeler, most nod back, those that don't ride all sorts of bikes. Mind you it got a bit silly once when I was out for a ride and the local egg run went past, got fed up with nodding after the first 50, the rest of 'em probably thought I was a stuck up harley rider !!!

    • @MUNRO13
      @MUNRO13 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed I ride a street triple r and only ever nod at the same bike but will return nods from whoever. I've noticed sporty naked bike riders tend to nod at each other.

    You are not alone. On a GS you definitely get less nods 🤔. I'm touring Wales and England this week and noticed a lack of nods. You must do Tregaron to Llyanwyrtd road. The devils staircase. Wow...its fantastic. Heading to London tomorrow. Might pass through Blighty

Great roads around area, the reason i got on a bike for the first time at 50. It really is good to see people like yourself venturing up north (or west) and actually seeing what such a variety of landscapes we have in the UK! Too many times I would meet people at university who ( mainly people from the south-no offence) had no idea such places existed in their own country! Not that the south doesn't have any beautiful landscapes either, the south coast and Cornwall/Devon I'm sure would make for a great road trip!

      @@TheMissendenFlyer I'm not really sure although it's an extraordinary looking mountain especially from the other side. Looks like a dinosaur back. There are quite a few routes up but I believe it's the only peak that can't be accessed without some real hands on scrambling. Also has the iconic Adam and Eve st the summit. It's a brilliant challenge summer or winter. Once again, thanks for all your fantastic videos. I've got a deposit on a Super Duke r which is stuck in a closed dealer at the mo. Started watching a lot of your vlogs; very informative, especially the bike reviews ... wife rather likes motorcycling as well so that's a bonus. Enjoyed the Scotland tour and enjoying the Welsh tour. Ride safe mate.

    Hi, just moved to London and thinking if September would be a good period of the year to adquire a GS1200. I am Brazilian and have owned 03 previous GS's and would love to visit the country side around London, but I am not sure about the weather conditions during winter. Should I wait for march/april 2018?
    Many thanks for your advise and congratulations for such interesting and inspiring videos.

    The beautifully maintained Caernarfon Castle in North Wales was where Prince Charles had his Investiture as 'Prince of Wales' way back in 1969 (much to the annoyance of some of the local Welsh i seem to recall). Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

    Stay off motorways - boring on bikes! I prefer "A" road tours. Did a bit of your Welsh tour, started at the beginning of the A5 (marble Arch) finishing at Holyhead, a most excellent weekend. Full length of A6 is also a good one, next one this year will be length of A 40 ! Go on try one!
    Really enjoy your videos, on a separate note, choice, S1000XR 1290 SAS or multi strata, Which would you go for?
    Keep good work TMF👍

    Last time I was in Wales I was 10 years old, Some what ago, looks lovely there and I did remember what Canarven castle looks like, don't think the nodding has anything to do with a GS, just plain old ignorance I think, I nod or rather wave here in Germany to all riders, appart from scooters he he. I think the GS is a great bike, would not like to have one myself though they seem to be everywhere these days. I prefer my Versys 1000 which got 2nd place after the GS in the top "adventure bikes". Glad you enjoyed your ride and thanks for sharing this RSM8.

    The lake is low in Llanberis because it's part of the hydro electric scheme, they pump water from that lake to a lake at the top of the mountain behind at low demand times and generate electricity by letting it come back down to that lake at high demand times

    If you want you can make the landscape (grounds) brighter in the video editor. Or put the camera higher on the helmet and then tilted a bit more forward. Less light from the sky will enter the lens so the ground will be brighter.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that....

    • @palantir135
      @palantir135 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look at two of my video's, maybe you can see the difference between brightening in the videoeditor and a slightly more tilted ( towards the ground) camera. In both video's the camera is placed at the same high position on my helmet.
      Motorrit Vecht, Gein, Amstel is brightened. Motorrit Lummen etc. Is more tilted.
      The first video took a lot of work to brighten up the ground and more saturate the colors. The second video needed none of that.
      I always sharpen the video a little because Google compresses a lot and that means loosing a lot of quality.

    Re: Nodding. Riding in Summer in UK, I start getting 'nod fatigue' after about a hundred nods, and when a dozen bikes go the other way, it feels like developing a twitch. Waving with the clutch hand seems too much, if you're not royalty. As more bikes get cruise control, maybe the continental 'cool wave' will start to appear in the UK :)

    Another good review. I love the Welsh scenery, but I think Scotland is more dramatic ( and that's from a Welshman). The welsh pronunciation seems to be getting better as the tour progresses, you will be fluent welsh by the end of it.

    I think pretty much the only negative thing about a GS, is that everyone and their granny has one.
    Here in Belgium, the R1200GS and GSA are the 2 most sold bikes, including scooters.

    Like you, when I use my GPS I tend to put in the next way point (town) as I go. When planning my route, say the night before, I enter in the towns in the GPS then find them under 'History' as I am travelling. Saves typing in the town name on the side of the road. Would love to download a route using Garmin Basecamp but it's total witchcraft to me. Hey Ho.
