Excellent, im really pleased you enjoyed it.... that last fish must have been worth it as I was kneeling in nettles for about 5 minutes... i can still feel it!!
Love your videos Total agree with getting on the bank early doors I'm 2 minutes from the stour at Iford (Bournemouth) Had so many chub, sea trout on crank baits Great videos Keep it up
Thanks Charles, yes that armour net actually changed the way I fish.... before I discounted fishing half the river because of fear of not being able to land the fish..... now that not the case, opening up the whole river to me!
the occasional angler I live between bath and Bristol so the chalkstreams are a still a fair distance away. In many ways I prefer the neglected free rivers like yours to the manicured and heavily over priced and stocked ones in Hampshire, although the ringwood end of the Hants Avon is pretty spectacular and on day ticket. Just that little bit too far to travel. All this talk is making we want to go and catch a chub on a lure in clear water 😂. Tomorrow perhaps
Great video. I had it on in the background while making lures, had to remember to get back to the lures lol. Looks like a great little river and makes me nostalgic of the rivers I used to fish as a kid.
Thanks Tom, yes its a hidden gem, unfortunately they are building a housing estate over it next year .... deep sigh 😕.... i accidentally caught a brown trout at the end of this session in the town centre (came off at the net)
@@theoccasionalangler6956 I saw that in the comments. Such a shame that this river will be lost to progress. I hope that the stretches either side of the development will be accessible and suitable for the displaced fauna
As always another great video and very informative, I always enloy watching them. Keep up the good work. So I have a question, How would you target a bigger wider river like the river Medway around Maidstone?
Hi Michael, all the chub I have caught have come from or near to cover, so in many respects it doesn't matter how wide the river is because you won't be targeting open water, you will be targeting structure and cover on either bank. Over hanging trees and bushes, rushes and feeder stream/ drains. Hope that helps
@@theoccasionalangler6956 Hello, yes it does help thank you. If you are up and around the Medway and fancy a fishing session give me a shout. Keep up the good work 👍
Michael Edwards I used to study the chub at Yalding on the Medway. All that water and features but they would hide away in only two spots...under cover in 2-4ft of water. Anglers would turn up in droves but fish the deeper water or weirpool and only catch small stuff
I am new to the channel, so I am sorry if you have previously explained this, but why do you make a long pause without retrieving the lure after casting? Thanks
@@theoccasionalangler6956 we are Facebook “friends”, when things are back to normal I’d love to meet up and do something special. Salmo and savage gear are my choice of lure. The duckling is remarkable for pike.
Yes I will use finesse wire traces if pike are present in an area historically . Often chub is sight fishing so you know the fish. Also I tend to find pike often don’t react to the way I fish chub lures (very slowly) or even static.
Hi there ,I just found your videos (and that i have competition on those spots ) I've been fishing there for 5 years now but I'm getting disappointed slowly, every year its less fish in the water, few years back the water was clocking of pike but now its silence. I think we are members at the same club we shuld have a session together if you are up for it , hit me up . Tight lines !!
Hey Radu, yes i would love to.... im really trying to find the perch at the moment.which isn't working out that well!! Give me a shout guyelson@hotmail.com and we can hookup
I actually had my first wild trout from the river a few minutes after that last fish... it was a accident just leaving the lure under the rod tip... unfortunately it came off just as I was netting it... would have been a nice bonus fish!
Another excellent video. Quality of camera work and action is brilliant. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
Thanks Alan .... i have some ideas to take filming to the next level..... Next week a big chub
Your show is excellent, camera angles and shots are brilliant as is your commentary. 9/10.
Thanks Nick, I appreciate you taking time to watch it
Great video love the underwater footage! They almost dissapear their natural camouflage is impressive!
This is a very informative video mate , top class! I really enjoy your videos thanks 👍
Thank mate
Loved that. The tension for that last fish was brilliant.... noticed you hardly retrieve the lure, almost dry fly fishing.

Great video love the camera angle / view!
One of the best chub video i have seen this year!
Thanks mate, i really appreciate that
Great video just subscribed 👍
Very informative especially after watching how you worked the lure once it had landed. Excellent movie
Thanks mate, i get the majority of takes just letting it float downstream.. 30% takes on a really slow retreive after a drift
Nice fish and fishing
Thanks mate
what reel and rod are you using ,sir?
Lovely looking river and amazing vid. That net (handle) looks very handy too.

the occasional angler I never appreciated how special the rivers were in the SE of England until I moved west. They’re about the only thing I miss.
@@Fishwish but your on the doorstep to some of the finest chalk streams in the uk (if you can afford them!!). Luckily this river is free!!

Great video
Thanks mate.... ive got a big chub for the video next week!
Great video friend
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it
Have you tried drone filming as per the ginger fisherman it makes great viewing just an idea 🤔
I have a 4m pole which I can use for fake drone shots… if I had the time I completely agree, adds loads of production value

Chub will take bugs and flies that fall off tree and bushes, so you are mimicking this. Really slow retrieves work very well also

Which pattern works best?
The perch patterns work best for me
Excellent work. Do you find soft lures better in clear conditions? I think Chub must be the best value fish around. 👍
No, crankbaits definitely outfish everything on my river when your targeting summer chub
