in regards to Dim Sum Cafe: "Nobody wants to work." WRONG! People want to work, just not for this nasty restaurant. People also don't want to be paid less than what they deserve for the work they do. If the person who supposedly asked for a raise, goes above and beyond for her when she asks of them, or takes on a leadership role in her absences, per her request, which is absolutely typical in an asian restaurant (I know because i've worked in MANY different asian restaurants) then they should be paid according to their duties, if she's not willing to pay more, she shouldn't ask more of her employees than their job titles.

It appears many of the issues -- grease buildup, improper storing of food, incorrect temperature, etc. is systemic and not a lapse. I hope other restaurants learn that there are many options in LV and their trust needs to be earned and maintained.

    • @Truth-of-the-matter

Easier said then done. Obviously they were way beyond what could be a slight variation from health standards. Having working a restaurant for nearly a decade its not easy to entice underpaid often underappreciated staff to do extra work for the company. On top of dirty customers as well as staff you are also dealing with many other issues like constant employee call outs, corporate changing the rules every other month, being threatened with your job, complaints from entitled people. Restaurant work isn't easy and why most people think it requires no skills is beyond me. Management (the role I did) especially takes the grunt force of operation and still while doing multiple tasks are underpaid. Americans want cheap fast food but don't mind the wage slavery they support by visiting those restaurants.

  • @MonroeYohey

As far as grease it gets on everything but you have to know as a restaurant how to do this yourself. You can’t simply blame employees but need to roll up sleeves and do the work. My family owned a restaurant growing up and I have cleaned those hoods more times than I could count. You have to clean the grease from floors nightly. You have to put all the equipment out regularly and deep clean everything. When you don’t have staffing you need to do it yourself. Fryers same thing you use the right cleaner and run that hot and it takes a tons of scrubbing. Restaurant work is and always was hard work. The woman sounds lazy and wants to shift blame to her employees but the labor shortage is an issue because it is next to i possible to find hard working employees who are willing to do all they need to do. They aren’t worried about being fired since someone else has a shortage. Still, if staying in business need to roll up sleeves and just do it. The government is still to blame for this mess by panicking everyone out of business. What is insane is unless it is pristine they shouldn’t get an A. The only Chinese restaurant I really cared to go to in Vegas was Bund Shanghai which seems to be a casualty of Covid - which the food there was great. You need to have a good level of trust with Chinese restaurants. I am allergic to msg and seafood so I need to be confident they won’t cross contaminate.

I used to work in the food industry and the way inspections are done are pretty flawed, the inspectors always give the establishment a heads up on when they will be showing up and around what time, that gives the business enough time to clean up and prepare for what the inspectors will be looking for, once they leave it's business as usual dirty and unsanitary, they need to do surprise inspections more regularly.

This news report would have been much shorter, like 60 seconds, if they just reported on what the restaurants passed inspection on, instead of describing a boatload of violations. I agree it's improbable that the restaurant served food left on the plates of previous customers. I worked in fast food a long time ago, and some things weren't the best, but it wasn't even a thought, or even a joke, that lets serve uneaten food scraped off previous customers plates again, to save money. Doesn't happen.

Blaming the heat and employees but cannot justify the grease coming down from the ceiling? I’ve been to this restaurant a few times and yes, the floor is always “sticky” and the carpet needed replacing. Not enough ventilation inside and not enough staff to serve the customers. Not coming back to hongkong garden again.

Does the guy Molson have an answer for a walk-in box that didn't work...meaning it didn't just not work for a day..I'm thinking my man isn't a food safety consultant at all.
