It always kills me when people say cuisine from the UK and Germany isn’t good. They just don’t know what they are talking about. Both countries have such lovely food.
What a lovely simple recipe, and so delicious. I’m making this for tea/supper tonight. Thank you so much for showing us how, with no fuss, no waffling, and explaining with your beautiful accent, which I absolutely love. 🤗🌹💕 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ South African here.subscribed.
I stumbled across your channel by accident and absolutely loving it. My mum used to make this and I wanted to make some last week. Now I'm excited too make it. Thanks so much.
Old Geordie from Spennymoor living in Australia. Accent is like going home. Grew up eating this. Still making it. Made one yesterday. Love the rich persons version.
mmmm such a great meal. I wish Sainsbury's or island stores will even bat an eyelid at selling some of your creations. Would be nothing but what's for tea's stuff in my fridge.
This was a staple in our house as a boy. My granny made this regularly, even better cold from the fridge though absolutely banging hot from the oven too. What a blast from the past. Homemade pastry, made on an old white and blue enamel metal pie plate. I am pure bursting for one of these now! Thank you for this reminder of how phenomenal simple home cooked food really can be.👍
I can't wait to try this. Here in the southern USA (West Virginia) we eat a lot of baked beans. I think if people from the states have told you that they do not eat baked beans with their dinners that they must be from the north. Here in the south, we baked beans are a staple. Thank you for another GREAT recipe.
@@millsykooksy4863 I think that beans are pretty much the same across the entire world. While there are many varieties of beans -- I don't think there is a difference in a UK lima from a US lima. LOL
Somewhat lapsed Geordie here (well, Vegemite does that to a bloke). Mum and Gran both used to make this regularly, and I absolutely loved it. My brother and I were only talking about it a week or so ago. Now you've got me all fired up to have a go. Thanks! :)
I never heard of corned beef in a can until I found your channel. In Chicago it is a large fatty piece of meat(brisket) boiled for hours with lots of spices. Served sliced up with boiled potatoes and cabbage. One of my favorite meals. Love your videos, thanks Cheryl.
By "corned beef"; she means what the rest of the Anglosphere calls BULLY BEEF. It's got nothing to do with actual Corned beef, the salt-cured side of beef that's then poached/simmered. For some reason, at some stage in the early 20th century (possibly during the depression); in the UK (alone) actual corned beef became unavailabe & forgotten about and they started calling bully beef "corned beef".
It amazes me how much confidence people seem to have when they are so very wrong. The uk has never had a 'depression' that's the US. We use recession but either way, that bit was wrong. Bully beef and canned corned beef also not the same thing. What America and Canada call corned beef is usually a form of salt beef from the Jewish culture not the traditional corned beef we have in the uk and Ireland which dates back centuries. Corning and salting was a way to preserve the meat, it was later canned to travel with the navy and then feed the colonies. Bully beef is pieces or off cuts of the American/Jewish beef - not the same thing.
@@danieleyre8913 you live that dream, I can assure you that there is only one of us spouting nonsense and it's not me. When was this depression you speak of in the uk? Why does canned corned beef pre date bully beef? How is it I'm talking nonsense when what you've said literally makes no sense 😁😁😁😁
we used to have corned beef pie when I was a kid and I loved it - tried it on my own kids and they were totally unenthusiastic - we did it slightly differently, very thinly sliced raw potato on the bottom, thinly sliced onion, thinly sliced corned beef, and maybe a few more slices of potato on the top, then pour over a couple of beaten eggs before putting the crust on the top, it makes nice layers when you cut into it Tip - refrigerate the corned beef (still in its tin) beforehand to make it easier to slice Cheryl, you take me back to my "roots", I must make one of these again
Every Boxing Day my niece has a family get together with a generous buffet. My favourites were her filo pastry pies - corned beef or "Greek" filling of feta, spinach & egg. Absolutely delicious. My contribution is a large trifle. 😁
My Mum used to dice up potato’s into small bits mix it in the corned beef. Then she would make Pattie’s and fry them. I loved them and still love corned beef.
Oh I haven't made one of those in ages. I like putting some sharp cheddar through my pastry & peas & softened red onions through the filling. One of those pies that's braw either hot or cold. Hope you had a good St. Andrews Day yesterday. [Speaking of which, you can sub out the corned beef for any left over haggis & mix some neeps in with the tatties, makes a nice change & a good way to use up the leftovers.]
Will be trying this soon. Brought back lovely memories of Mum's corned beef pie. For those who like to try corned beef another way, have you tried it with baked neans in a toastie? You can add finely chopped onion if you like. We love it. It is better to leave them to cool a little before trying. Enjoy.
I think our baked beans are a little sweeter with brown sugar and molasses but I eat them regularly. They aren't usually a breakfast staple but definitely for lunch or dinner. I grew up making baked bean sandwiches on bread or rolls. White bread toasted in the oven with cheese and baked beans served over the top it's still a go to lunch for me. That pie looks absolutely incredible
My mum used to make this years ago I remember my dad used to take some for his “piece” the following day , now I’m doing the same my husband and grandchildren love it x
Just made your pie and added diced jalapeno's instead of the onions, but your cooking times were spot on, it will make 4 separate meals for me, 1. with beans, 2 with pea and curry sauce 3 broad beans and thick gravy, 4 probably beans again, I loved your soft gentle you made the pie & video, thanks for sharing😋😋😋
I’m making this right now. I read someone commented that if you put your corned beef tin in the fridge it will cut better. Good idea- which I didn’t follow! I’m in Australia and it’s hot here today. My corned beef just crumbled! However, once it gets mixed in with the mash, I guess it won’t matter! I’m following your recipe to the letter. I’ve never had this before, but it looked so good I had to give it a try! Love your channel. Thanks for sharing, xx ❤
Great looking pie, my mum used an ashet pie dish to layer mashed potatoes then corned beef, then same again and finish with a layer of mashed potatoes with grated cheese on top but this looks even better, and yes, we had baked beans with it. Thanks for the recipe, can't wait to give it a try xx
My mother (a Scot from Ayrshire) used to make a version of this when i was much younger, but with sausage meat instead of corned beef and layered with par-boiled sliced potatoes. Thank you for the reminder and the prompt to get in the kitchen.

Pork n Beans in tomato sauce are the closest you can find in America to British baked beans. They are less sweet than American baked beans! Really tasty on toast.
I made this the other night and it was beautiful. The only change I made is to use shortcrust for the lid as neither of us are too fond of flaky pastry. My wife's appetite is still building up after a serious op so this was perfect in just a small portion with beans as you suggested! The rest is divided and in the freezer for another day. Thanks and keep up the good work!
