  • Hello folks!
A very warm welcome back to What’s For Tea :) Tonight I made this delicious minced beef & onion pie, more commonly known in Scotland as a ‘mince round’ It was so tasty and very easy to make too!
I normally pick up my mince rounds from the local butcher but tonight I made my own for a wee change. You could make your own pastry if you like, but the pre-made stuff means you can have dinner on the table within an hour or so :) Making puff pastry from scratch is very time consuming…but if you have the time, go for it!
Everything I used will be mentioned below incase you want to make it for yourself. Thanks for stopping by,
    -Cheryl x

    Serves 4 (I used an 18cm tin)
Find the pie tins I used here:
    www.lakeland.co.uk/17808/10-F...
450g (1 pound) Best quality beef steak mince (ground beef steak)
    1 Medium onion, finely diced
    1 Beef oxo cube
1/2 pint (1 cup) beef stock, I used a jelly stock pot
    1 Tablespoon pain/all purpose flour
400g (14oz) Ready made puff pasty sheet
    1 Large egg yolk
**You could add peas and diced carrots to the minced beef if you like :)**

If you bake the pastry bottom . Do you spoon the mince/ onion mix in as soon as you take it out of the oven or do you let it cool first. Also do you bake the pastry bottom at 200 degrees ?

    • @WhatsForTea
      @WhatsForTea  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Hi there 😊 I let the mince cool to room temperature...and yes, bake at 200... but make sure to line your base/bottom with baking paper and weigh down the pastry with uncooked rice/lentils or baking beans to stop it rising 😊👍 10 minutes should be enough.

I am from Ontario, Canada. Thank you so much for this recipe. My hubby has always said that he hated meat pies. When I saw this recipe, I just had to try it, because I love meat pies. He had it for his supper and actually liked it. He said that it was not what he was expecting, and that he would eat it again. This is a huge meat pie victory as I have been trying to find a recipe that he would eat for 30 years. Thank you for your wonderful videos and for this recipe that we can both love.

I live in Michigan, the "Mitten State", across the pond from you. We have about 12 to 14 inches of snow, compacted in layers with ice, which is quite typical for February. It's actually been mild until recently, and now the NorthWind is trying to make up for lost time. I've often thought that we have a great deal in common with bonny Scotland. Hello from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania! Just as cold for the next few days. Can not wait to make this. Thanks for all your recipes. I especially like trying to find the American substitutes for some of your ingredients. Truly wish I could find Gammon here! And your Scottish bacon looks superior to what I cam find in the states. But I guess my ability to buy Golden Onion soup in any grocery store, must make you envious!

Hello from south Texas... doesn't get very cold here or stay cold for Kong, but my son likes those kind of days. I prefer fall weather: bright sunny day, no clouds or humility, bright blue skies and cool temps.
