Totally wild, to work on a truck that hasn't spent it's life in the salt belt.
I hear that a lot, guess I’m lucky! Lol
Yeah so crazy a truck not from the north super rare
I thought the same thing when he just unbolted the manifolds and y pipe with no torch needed😂
@@BoBuilds your truck is cleaner than my 14 ram rcsb lmao I've already got surface rust all over the frame starting
Tell me about it I once rebuilt a front end on a California Duramax no torch or pb blaster it was actually an enjoyable job
Hey man. This is the most scientific exhaust video I've seen in 15 years. You even had a baseline and controlled each variable. I hope you do well and thanks
7:35 that startup 👌
Just for my taste I loved the way it sounded before the last adjustment
Flow master has always been my go to… keeping that deep muscle sound without the popping raspiness… clean strong sound for sure…
I’ve got a buddy that has a 2011 5.3, he got an x pipe with no muffler and -1 cat and it sounds amazing, chops like a motorcycle
One of your best vids out there. Keep them coming!
In my opinion the best sounding cam for these is the BTR NSR stage 2 cam.
That's a 4.8 brother. That thing sounds great. Really sweet sounding cam. Nice. On something bigger it would be super loud.
Speed engineering, all done
Excellent work You did a really good job I rarely like anyone's videos as I watch it on my TV but I took the time to look at your video on my phone so I could like and subscribe at this. It's too bad I don't have my Mustang anymore, as I definitely would have done this to it. Keep up the good work
That's why when you upgrade your cam they recommend you installing a stall converter.
All converters stall. Radical cams sacrifice low engine speed torque due to inefficient low speed air dynamics. A high stall converter ..aka “ loose” converter... lets engine speed come above the factory rpm before the converter lockup begins. Engagement .......lockup.....takes place at an engine rpm where it’s making torque sufficient to move the vehicle smoothly.....or in the case of high-performance vehicles, aggressively. If the radical cam engine is in a stick shift vehicle, slipping the clutch in first gear does the same thing. Choice of an appropriate stall speed is determined by consideration of cam specs...lift/ duration...., rear end gearing, weight of the vehicle and intended use. ....all converters are “ stall” converters....my 2 cents from an old horsepower addict. Dave in Omaha.
What is your wheel setup, front and back? They look great.
Always use a vacuum reserve canister when you do a cam swap. So you always have vacuum no matter what
most vehicles already have one, stall converter is what you need.
@@apocalypse4720 a torque converter with a higher stall does not fix a lack of vacuum due to a higher lift cam. It prevents the transmission from engaging at adjusted idles higher then 600-750 rpms. The only thing a higher stall will fix is the engine stalling when taking off. The newer truck from 97 and up have basically eliminated the reserve canisters.
You explained it good bro. Currently building a 5.3 for my 98 extended obs. I will use this method on mine too.
Great video! Ive leaned a lot of good info from your videos!
Much much better idle bro! Love chops like that! It’s great how u take the time to explain what ur talking about too! Gained a new subscriber here! I have a question.. have u ever experienced HP Tuners fail every single time trying to “write” the file and in turn needing to replace the pcm in order to start the vehicle again..? I’ve had to replace my pcm 4 times when trying to write the file to have it fail every time and I’m scared of using it now lol is it something maybe u have heard of before?..
Why is there slicks on a basically fbo truck?
Which cam is it?
😮sounds awesome bro 😊❤
Long tube headers installation link went missing
0:53
Welding with the force... Haha. Feel that.
Why just 2 valve springs?
Did you break any manifold bolts?
Can I get this exhaust sound for a 454 single cab long bed
I have the exact same truck except mines a 4.3, yes I want to do an LS Swap really bad, trying to create a financial miracle because I wanna do it right
Wat happens wen you put it in gear at that chop??
Sound is one thing but it about Performance 🎭
Nice video bro hey what did you use to hold the lifters up
What size Welds? 17 inch? If so what ties? Thanks in advance.
Sound is sick
You didn’t have to bore your block for the cam?
Spikes in Pasadena can install all the parts or sell
Good job. Thanks for the explanation
Awesome video 😊
Which flowmaster model is it?
Damn.
This was such an informative video you know your shit!
👍
How much cost the tuning
What’s that tire and wheel combo ? Awesome truck. I’ve got an 02 but it’s a lowered 4x4 with long tubes cam and basically similiar set up. Im looking to get some slicks and ditch the 20s that are one my truck currently. Im redoing my exhaust right now its longtubes no cats no muffler just into y and a tail pipe but I’m putting xpipe and going equal length with some spin techs if I feel like spending 150 on a muffler cuz a flowmonster 10 will work for me hahaha haven’t decided where to put the tail pipes yet either out the back or factor spot or in front of the passenger wheel. But. I deffinatly need some different wheels and tires. Curious about your combo cuz I’m having trouble finding drag wheels used anyway. I know I can buy them new but trying to save everywhere I can. Anyway sorry for babbling awesome truck again love these things
What tires are those??
By any miracle can you please send the link to the valves and spring you used??? And lifters
Nice video thanks bro! I’m building a single cab step side for my son that’s 6.0 swapped. It’s an older motor with the EGR and I wanted to know how to adjust for it in hp tuners if I delete it
Can we get a link to the cam…….
What brand headers and y pipe was used on this truck? The header install is a different model truck.
Awesome budd
What wheels are those?
What jegs cam is this?
Nice 👍
That’s fantastic…now sell it to me 🤣
Needs spintech mufflers and an x pipe
Yeppp agreed
this**
It pained me to watch you put those clamps on😭 those clamps are the worst clamps known to man for exhaust 😭
They are the best holding tho, u aren't getting exhaust apart once u tighten them. We do exhaust at my shop, band clamps are garbage for aluminized steel exhaust ( no one pays for stainless up here).
Hell yea where are you located we got a few trucks we need tuned
How's the performance?
Are you in Houston Texas?
sounds goooooood!
Did you notice any difference going to lomg tunes I had closed cats so I went to long tubes and didn't notice any difference but stock camshaft and muffler
What does it drive like ?
Sounds mean bro
Sounds awesome
nice build! what all did you take off to pull cam while motor is still in bay?
I hate to be that guy but you had it tuned nicely with a steady and true to the duration sound but then manipulated it to get the "rut rut rut" which to anyone who is familiar with a 220-230-240-250 duration cam knows it's faked but i guess it sounds good to the people who don't know any better.
That's the ides duh!
What year is your truck? Sounds and looks good. 👍
I had no clue that by altering the tune a little that it would make such a change to the sound/tone. I know that turbochargers act like a pseudo muffler. However, my next engine build will be a 5.3L LS with a S475 turbo with the outlet opened up to 4" or 5". Then through a 4" or 5" cat and a 4" or 5" straight pipe with a summit racing torqinator camshaft. I also might do a 4" or 5" to 8" exhaust tip as well. Would changing things in a similar way to this small cam 4.8L help maintain the torqinator sound or would the S475 turbo mute most of it? Thanks
Super.
Sounds pretty good. Kinda untuning it tho arent you
You didn’t had to change internals with the cam? If so how much reliable it’s been?
On a mild cam just springs and lifters
Add a stall and it’ll chop
What size are you tires and wheels
Where do you get the muffles ?
What stage cam is it?
sound good, how does if perform..??
Well for a 4.8 I think it performs great! As long as you understand there’s only so much an NA 4.8 can put down! We’re talking about 6.0 swapping next
That sounds awesome man!! Keep up the badass work. What are the specs of that cam?
What's the best cam for a 5.3L and what would be the best muffler Atwell as what would be the best long tube headers. I need help
Tsp chopacabra cam, speed engineering 7/8 long tubes
Carven R muffler (similar to super 10 but deeper)
The “best “ cam/mufflers decisions on is determined by the intended use of the vehicle. A big cam without the correct mods to other systems will not perform at its max. Head port volumes, valve size, exhaust tube diameters, header tube length, intake manif. design, carb size/injector volume and pulse length, valve spring stiffness, ignition efficiency and timing, converter stall speed, third member gearing.....all need to work in concert to let a cam hit its design potentials. Engine Masters is the best cable show about optimizing and understanding what goes on in a internal combustion engine. HotRod magazine is where I learned. HotRod tv is good too but E.M. Is the best. What works in one engine doesn’t mean it will work in all engines. There’s a lot to learn. Short term info....quick info....can be harvested at your local high performance engine builder. 8 minutes of conversation can put you on track. After, buy him a subway sandwich as thanks. Show appreciation for his( her) time and advice. Don’t rely on a guy at a parts counter. 2 cents worth from an old horsepower lover. Dave in Omaha
Good information in the vid, though the truck is pretty lame a wannabe tough guy 😆 all bark no bite.
I think that's 20 on top or pulled from the base numbers which are around 20 I think like 18ish so it's really going from.like 0° to like 40°
6:04 sounds like a Lion roaring
Can I get you to help me with mines please?
Mine idles at 4-500 stock?
Where can I find these headers?
I wonder how choppy the truck Norris can get
Buddy of mine has the truck Norris on his 06 sierra 5.3 and it sounds way more aggressive than this cam
Wheels tires size boss?
How does it sound with idle set to 900 with spark swinging
Good info 👍
Love the wheels. Who makes them?
WELD
Suits the truck well. Very nice.

When I first started modding my truck i went with texas speeds stage 3 low lift cam 216/220 .550/.550 112lsa and the chop was crazy n/a but now that i added turbo its sounds like a stock cam at idle ive gotten hptuners and have tried playing wjth the tune myself for the first time and ive tried this and a few other variables and still cant seem to get it to really chop and lope at idle good, if it does it just feels like its running rough. Any ideas?
Turbos can have that effect. Had a foxbody 5.0 with a 224/224 .550/.550 114lsa that chopped good NA, not so good with turbo. Hell of a light quieter with the turbo too. Just the nature of the beast I’m afraid.
So did u do 1 tune after the cam & headers or have to tune after each install
You can run a car with just the exhaust and headers but with a cam you need to tune it for it can perform good
I have this cam but from Texas speed and performance with speed engineering exhaust
When you do an idle like that (20/20) will it effect the smell at idle, catless?
It does some. At least on my 4.8 it did. But I also have a way larger cam too
What's the lsa on that cam
112
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
You do realize that you only need 10 lbs oil pressure for every 1000 rpm so changing the idle won’t achieve anything good or be negative for that matter so no sweat
Whats the rim and tire size?
Are the rear wheels 15s?
Yep
I fkn love it!!!!
Ok now add turbo kit
Lowered?
What size wooden dowel rods man..
5/16
Sounds amazing man great job
Sooo YOu are tuning it to make your truck idle like shit?
The background music is awful but the exhaust it awesome
Sounds good but not the most aggressive exhaust lol
