I like that in the anime, when he puts the hat on her head she remembers that he calls it his treasure. She didn’t really appreciate Luffy until that moment, she realized that he gave her the most important thing in the world to hold onto while he helps her out. You can spot her realization beautifully in the anime. Wish it was here but very much nitpicking
Another thing which I really enjoyed is when the camera shifts to Sanji, Zoro, Usopp the main bgm mixed with Sanji’s trumpet, Zoro’s Japanese flute and Usopp drums gave me goosebumps fr
This scene is almost a perfect mirror to the anime counterpart, down to the amount of stabs, the famous shot, Zoro, Sanji and Ussop's faces side by side. I love the dedication of this show to give us a live action version of the manga, and not their own version... like some other life actions.
This is what a real empowered woman is, strong and yet knows the reality that's it's impossible to solve everything on their own. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
Geting goosebumps in this scene .. specially when those 3 waiting for luffys order.. zoros posture.. sanji wt his cigarette and ussop sitting in the corner.. damn..
This is the scene I was waiting for the most when watching the live action. This is my favorite scene in all of One Piece. God damn the snap of putting the hat firmly on Nami is the best way they could have translated the emotion of the scene. Absolutely amazing.
What I enjoy the most about the live action is that it’s really faithful to the anime/manga, but it’s also different enough to make me feel like I’m getting to watch One Piece for the first time all over again. I think that’s amazing.
I am not much of a One Piece fan but I will say this live action series on Netflix made me understand why this series is part of the Big 3 and why it's so love... I can't wait to see Water 7's arc
As someone who saw the live action first, I'm unironically thinking of starting the anime when I finish it. Now I see why it's been going on as long as it has.
This scene was truly filled with emotion and made me cry when Nami started yelling while stabbing herself. One suggestion I have is that her change of heart would've hit harder if the tension leading up to her request was pushed a bit further as it happened in the anime, with her yelling at Luffy to go away until breaking into tears, acknowledging losing control over the situation, unable to do anything anymore, and thus, asking Luffy for help.
I think they were playing off of the fact that earlier in the episode Luffy said if you need our help ask. But yeah the scene in of itself was fantastic. Only other critique i would add would be to add the scene they did for the anime after luffy gave her his hat
@@drbastion6951 Yeah that walk into Arlong Park was one of the most memorable scenes back in the day, they could've extended the scene with them directly breaking into the place along with that music and finishing monumentally with Luffy asking for Arlong. Man, that would've been so epic.
I pick at a lot of little things as a long time anime watcher and I couldn’t agree more. Having her yell at him and finally break really adds to the moment to be. It’s just a pause here which doesn’t hit as hard to me
Emily Rudd and Inaki Godoy's performance in this scene are both amazing. I love that we finally have something to point to when someone asks what a *good* live-action anime adaptation looks like.
I think "of course I will" is accurate to the original Japanese but the Dub's "hes gonna pay!!" To me always had more impact when he screams. Either way, couldnt be happier with this show. Really looking forward to S2
Y'know what I really love about this? They are unapologetic about being so close to the comic. It's like they have pondered how these won't translate well to the live action medium but they did it anyway. And honestly, that unapologeticness is exactly what a made it work. They're not imitating the source material. They're emulating it. And that makes all the difference that no other live action adaptations lack.
Emily Rudd NAILED this. I didn’t even see the original. I’m not a big anime fan, I just watched this cause my boyfriend is one piece obsessed and he asked me to. But this is incredible acting. I cried, i had a whole breakdown. Amazing is all i can say.
This scene will always be the one that hits home. Luffy already accepted Nami without knowing her backstory. He stuck around because she’s already his Nakama. But he waited until Nami asked for help before he stepped in. The characterization of Luffy here is amazing!
Emily said out of all the scenes on the show this was the one she was most nervous about because it was the scene that made her say she loved One Piece.
I've felt hit or miss with the flashbacks(excluding the Sanji one that was perfect). This scene on the other hand is perfect. Was worried Inaki couldn't pull off Luffy's serious phase.
@@xJayhawkFANx I felt sad about Kuina's death but overall yeah. It's a shame too because Usopp's story made me sad in the anime, but in the live action he got the most cut. I really hope they find a balance in the next season, and don't rush important moments.
I love how willing they are to recreate scenes directly from the manga without being afraid of them being too “cheesy.” One piece as a manga is already extremely campy, and not backing away from it or giving it a cynical edge gives it a sense of earnestness that so many adaptations lose.
This was the moment I spent months fretting over. Nami's character Arc in the East Blue set the bar for the whole series, and reined as THE moment of One Piece until Ennies Lobby. Had Nami's actress delivered anything less than perfect, the whole series would be torn to shreds by long-time fans. Emily Rudd and Inaki Godoy in this scene surpassed every expectation. All of the cast were perfect; no words, no explanation, just "Help me." "Of course I will." "Let's Go."/"Right." This was Anime adaptation done right in a way nothing has every pulled of, until now.
The way Luffy passes his hat over is really interesting to me. He takes it off sideways, even raising his hand sideways, so that he never breaks eye contact with her. He's making sure she knows he's there and ready, even when it seems like he's doing something else.
Luffy's normally so cheerful and happy-go-lucky. But, when you mess with his friends, he becomes as serious as a nuclear weapon. Just absolutely beautiful acting, directing, cinematography, and score.
When I first started watching the One Piece anime, I didn’t really like it and I thought about quitting. However, I decided to push forward just a bit more before stopping and when I saw this scene for the first time, it took my breath away. After all the buildup, seeing the raw emotion of this scene, and the walk to Arlong Park, I had never felt such a drastic shift in my opinion and vowed to see how deep the One Piece rabbit hole went. After years of catching up, not a single part of me regrets it because I kept going and was rewarded with one of the greatest stories I’ve ever witnessed.
The most emotional scene in the East Blue saga was done flawlessly. Emily killed it with Nami's breakdown, and Inaki perfectly balanced the subtle badassness of Luffy lending Nami his hat, and the cartoony badassness of the "OF COURSE I WILL!"- line. I remember shedding a tear watching it the first time.
The original anime scene hits me as a kid, but seeing this in live action as adult and changed the setting into nightime somehow hits harder Emily Rudd nailed her role as Nami and so did Inaki as Luffy, I love them so much❤🎉
I only just started watching One Piece (Anime) January of this year. Have been taking my time, only just finished Alabasta/Boroque Works Saga. Nami asking Luffy for help in Arlong Park arc was the first time the show made me cry, and the live action did as well. They nailed it
nami screaming arlongs name in anger and sadness as she stabs her self. Goodness she executed it so well it hits right in the gut😢 her desperate voice when she said help me was so good 😭 since in the live action no one knows about her sacrifice unlike in the manga, arlongs betrayal kinda hit harder bc she literally has nothing anymore. at that moment it dawned on her that village hates her, that she wasted more than half of her life as a prisoner and with the betrayal, she might as well spend the rest of her days as arlongs errand girl since she wont be able to pay. man i love nami's character so much.

saaame mate
almost frame by frame ...excelent job ... mission acomplished , I cried
0:22 *_"That's enough Nami."_*
It's such a simple story executed flawlessly. Exactly the direction we should be going in.
This live action series is better than it has any right to be.
As someone who saw the live action first, I'm unironically thinking of starting the anime when I finish it. Now I see why it's been going on as long as it has.
You should. The anime/manga is amazing
I feel the same! Gonna start watching the anime now
Read the manga
If you ever watched old dragon ball, you'll love it...
Just started
Watch the Anime First. Then you will understand how fucking good this is done. Adaptation done right
I can't be the only that felt good when he said "ofcourse i will"
This scene was truly filled with emotion and made me cry when Nami started yelling while stabbing herself.
True hopefully 🤞 since this is successful we can have a season 2 wherein longer episodes that stay true to the anime and manga ❤
@@timo713I was looking for an opinion like yours! 200% agree
This made me cry more than the anime, ngl. In here, the villagers didn't know and Nami was genuinely alone.
They crushed this scene. I'm glad it was done justice and it's still my favorite scene in One Piece after 20 years of following the series.
This video probably won't be up for long, but thanks for putting the whole scene up properly. Needed a boost this morning.
IM OBSESSED WITH 2:20 and the way the panels match the manga 😭
Emily knock this out of the park!🔥🔥🔥🔥
She knocked it out of the Arlong Park
@@mememan3447 my man!
And Inaki knocked Arlong out of his own park!👊
I've felt hit or miss with the flashbacks(excluding the Sanji one that was perfect). This scene on the other hand is perfect. Was worried Inaki couldn't pull off Luffy's serious phase.
Having never seen any one piece anime, Sanji’s flashback and the child actor who played him were incredible. I cried.
I thought Zoros was very meh. Same with Ussop. But I thought Namis was very good and Sanji's was INCREDIBLE!
@@xJayhawkFANx I felt sad about Kuina's death but overall yeah. It's a shame too because Usopp's story made me sad in the anime, but in the live action he got the most cut.
I really hope they find a balance in the next season, and don't rush important moments.
My only nitpick is that it took place at night otherwise it was perfect.
Luffys and Sanjis are the best ones tbh
All of the cast were perfect; no words, no explanation, just "Help me." "Of course I will." "Let's Go."/"Right."
This was Anime adaptation done right in a way nothing has every pulled of, until now.
2:13-2:23 this part had me hyped
this scene adaptation was fucking great!
I just love how after he admits he duno whats going on...he silently waits for her to ask for help
Whether it be anime or live action, that shot of the bois sitting and standing there ready to throw hands gives me goosebumps
This was the scene. The one they needed to get 100% right for it to be proper One Piece. And they absolutely nailed it.
This is the scene that above all the other greatness this series brought, just proved how faithful and adaptation this is.
2:13 They nailed this shot.
Luffy’s loyalty knows no bounds, Nami is more than just his navigator, she is his friend
They nailed this and Sanji saying goodbye to Zeff scene!!
I just absolutely love this venerability & strength shown by both characters in this scene.
The original anime scene hits me as a kid, but seeing this in live action as adult and changed the setting into nightime somehow hits harder Emily Rudd nailed her role as Nami and so did Inaki as Luffy, I love them so much❤🎉
0:22 😊
0:32 Luffy.
0:56 He did learned about what happened to Nami.
1:26-2:04-2:19 😊
This is the moment in the show that made me want to watch the anime.
I love how the music mirrors his first "Of course I will". Just makes the line stand out that much harder.
I love when Luffy smiles but I also love when he gets serious
it's crazy the closer the end gets the more we can see the parallels, man. it's mindblwing
Even got me jumping out of my chair with both hands raised yelling “Of course he will”!!!
They did this scene perfect. Hats off to the actors. They nailed it. Perfection.
They kept all the goofy shit and still somehow made it believably serious. Luffy just being fucking livid is scary here
I only just started watching One Piece (Anime) January of this year. Have been taking my time, only just finished Alabasta/Boroque Works Saga. Nami asking Luffy for help in Arlong Park arc was the first time the show made me cry, and the live action did as well. They nailed it
nami screaming arlongs name in anger and sadness as she stabs her self. Goodness she executed it so well it hits right in the gut😢 her desperate voice when she said help me was so good 😭 since in the live action no one knows about her sacrifice unlike in the manga, arlongs betrayal kinda hit harder bc she literally has nothing anymore. at that moment it dawned on her that village hates her, that she wasted more than half of her life as a prisoner and with the betrayal, she might as well spend the rest of her days as arlongs errand girl since she wont be able to pay.
man i love nami's character so much.
oooooh, that makes more sense. i thought she was yelling “all along”, which i guess kinda fits?? but arlong is much more obvious and i feel dumb lmao
@@star.surfer9446bro...
It's been 20 years and this scene still majes me cry
But the show just came out 👁👄👁
The score in this scene is impeccable.
That looks exactly how some bunch of students would film as hobby.
Puffy walking towards his crew with Sanji smoking a cigarette so badass
Thank you Goda for supervising this live action from beginning to the end!
THE MUSIC😭😭😭😭😭
