  • Looking for Cork-Lid Trapdoor Spiders (Cteniza moggridgei) and Mediterranean Wishbone Spiders (Nemesia sp.) in a forest in Southern France. I was sick when I recorded this video, so I apologize if I sound a bit stuffy.

    We have some trapdoor spiders in Greece. The genus cyrtocarenum. They look just like the cteniza ones. But their burrows get very deep and I rarely mange to catch one. I love trapdoor spiders:)

    I love spiders. I keep some as pets for entertainment and macro pictures. Feed them and enjoy watching them then set them free. The funny thing is.. I imagine their situations in the way that we would if we were abducted by a species we didn’t understand. I’m sure half of the spiders I catch and release go back to their buds like “you wont believe it…” the same way if aliens abduct a human and we try to tell other people. 😂🤔 and.. I’m sure some of these guys are like hey bud my house got trashed by a giant today…

    That little inhibitor looks like a perfectly shaped bowl of a spoon. I think i'm going to have some CT crunch now. Scientific name, Cinnamontoastuscrunchiday--not to be confused with its lesser competitor in the same niche, Cap'ncrunchii.

    I'm from India and although I have found a couple of mygalomorph species and one species of trapdoor spider, I haven't seen a burrow yet. They're getting pretty rare nowadays. Love your vids

      I have only seen one Tegenaria since I've been here. I usually see many more during the summer. Very tough to deliberately find them; they tend to just show up randomly. I'll record any more that I see.

    Nice finds! I lived in China for eleven years and only managed to find one trapdoor spider on the day before I left and it was a juvenile! I did, however, find some huge Macrothele sp. Also found one purseweb in all those years, without a spider.. I think that once you find one you start to recognise them better to find more! This video helps because my family and I want to move to Spain this year and I reckon that their habitat will be similar. Do you have a scientific background or are you just very keen?

    • @GeneralApathy
      @GeneralApathy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Spain has great mygalomorph diversity, perhaps the best in all of Europe. They have Macrothele in the south as you’re probably already aware. I do have a scientific background, but it’s only quite recent, so I’m working on expanding that. :D

      @MaartenSFS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GeneralApathy I have done a bit of research on Spain and they also have some true tarantulas, though the genus escapes me! I recently went back to school for environmental science, but the school bungled my diploma and I ended up graduating with something else. Most of the entry level positions are internships or seasonal, which isn't realistic for a father with a baby anyways...
