Haha I remember you wining last yr every post it was funny. NIMBY In my city they host the Indy for decades now and yes there were major hiccups in the beginning but now they literally only take 3-4 wks to setups. One of the best events of the year. Blocked views and no stopping on pedestrian bridges is a fairly common thing in races. Especially in regards to safety.
We're in Vegas last year a week before F1, and it's a nightmare getting around the Strip. We had to wait anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes for cab or share rides. This year, we're staying away until F1 is over with.
I'm all for new events like F1, keeps things interesting. Risk has to be considered when running a tourism business, part of that risk consideration has to factor in construction/city works. Hence I'm less sympathetic for those businesses impacted by the previous F1 event. Regarding the strip, I'm much more irritated with the lack of free parking these days, the removal of buffets and good deals on meals, lame reward from rewards programs, and the chipping away of odds at my black jack...
A Taxi cab driver told us he had an executive from The Paris Hotel in his cab after F1 last year and he asked how was F1 and the person said "We lost money". Many locals don't want F1and businesses do not want F1 renewed after 3 years. Many tourists I've talked with did not like the construction leading up to it including myself.
@alexj.5207 Yes, because there are news reports of the Paris losing money as well as other Caesars Properties. In fact, MGM has stated they are losing money now on this year's F1.
I think a lot of the negative attitude is due to the arrogance of the F1 people. The exorbitant amounts of money they demand is not worth it. A bottle of water that was overpriced is really really overpriced during F1.
The construction has already been annoying af for the past 3 weeks. It's been mostly at night leaving work that's been bothersome. As an agent at a non-gaming casino, we didn't see much benefit for the workeds. I'm always happy to give a view to a guest and try my best to do so when it's available. Our hotel overlooks the end of the race. Last year, I had a photo of the track, showing where our hotel sits as well as the layout of our hotel to show guest what view they would get and let them choose. The tips were nothing more, if not less than, what I get regularly. Every room is pre blocked for the race. The amount of extra work and time discussing with the guest, unblocking, and swapping a room was not worth it. This year, I'll do that for a sandwich tip. Otherwise, guests will get what they are pre blocked for.
All the Uber drivers we talked to about it afterwards hated it. Mostly the construction and traffic changing around. Same with dealers in a few casinos we had talked to about it. Take it out to the NASCAR track and figure something out there. Or if there’s an old closed airport that can be used
I was there last year, will NEVER go again around F1, absolute nightmare. And we're from the UK where we love F1. Build a track specifically for it. Nightmare for the locals
Jacob, love your channel. We have just returned from Vegas to Uk. Last visited Vegas in 2017, and the difference in cost of eating out etc is staggering. Why is that? I like F1, but Vegas doesn’t need it. Nothing but complete disruption.
They are saying thousands of tourists per hour...they don't care for working class tourists. Pleasing a few rich people during Nov 23 by blocking the Bellagio sidewalks was deemed a higher priority.
My husband is a night shift driver for republic and the strip is bad enough on a Thursday night without the closed lanes. Idk how bad it is but apparently last year was so bad he changed his schedule for this fall season from Thursday-sunday to Tuesday-friday taking a monthly $800 paycut. The stress of getting around with pushy supervisors who want you to get your stops done quickly while the weekend out of towners congest the streets and construction limiting traffic to one lane was already getting to him.
From an outside point of view, F1 is such a disruption because 4 months or so out of the year is dedicated to messing up, blocking stuff, etc. for a week-to-weekend event. No other event takes that type of time frame out of Las Vegas. The money is talking big time for this to certain groups and people and the rest can eat cake...
When we went the first time when that was getting put up we avoided the strip other than the 2 shows we had tickets to. We spent all our time on Fremont Street. Had a blast there. Our uber drivers didn't have a good thing to say about F1. I definitely made sure I tipped them very well.
To make the argument of the "capacity" on the pedestrian bridges, its not wither or not its able to support the weight of all the people on it, its more of, how many people are on it itself. Don't get me wrong, I think the ban on it is completely stupid, but I can imagine them having people jammed packed on those bridges might having someone trip and get trampled, something like what happened at Astro world a while back. But then again, if you're on the middle of the bridge...you''re not seeing much of the race, so it's kinda pointless.
I had planned on going to Vegas last fall thinking as long as I avoided the actual race weekend (among other big events) I would be fine.. then I realized I was wrong.
You DO KNOW that it won’t even be remotely as bad as last year. They had to pave roads last year, they don’t have to do it again. It’s just setting up barriers.
I went to F1 last year. I had a timeshare room at the Elara. Was great I could see the race on Harmon from my room. That being said, if you’re not going to F1 , avoid the strip from at least a week before to a week after. Chaos and PITA
My wife and I don’t come to Vegas as often since F1 started. We only come now when none of the F1 stuff is up. So when F1 is there we go somewhere else.
Much more balanced vs the stuff you posted last year, kudos on that to you. A good suggestion to organizers is to convey US tipping culture to the foreigners in some way or another. "gentle suggestions" I was there for year 1, but I am not a F1 spender. Able to watch from my timeshare at Elara, and did not hit the casinos, pricey restaurants etc. If it is not too cold, I will try to score a cheap ticket to attend in the stands
Vegas is so dumb... most cities that have F1 have a great subway metro system so the citizens can still get around if surface streets are closed.... I was in Singapore for their F1 it barely impacted city travel... vegas was dumb to have F1 without taking care of the citizens first
O boy, First time going to Vegas Oct 21 for 5 days. My wife and I are staying at Paris. Waited my whole life for this ( Im 64) Figures. Fingers crossed,,,,
I have nothing against the F1 I just feel it would have been alot better to go have it near the speedway where its more room to build the track without disturbing the daily going ons on the strip
F1 has made Vegas their beotch. Come into town mess with everybody, collect their bag and take off till next year. Would you go to a NFL game if all you could see was a 10 yard segmen. F1 you don't see entire race, you see a section and watch cars go by for 10 seconds then nothing. What's the point. In both examples you would have to see entire race or NFL on a big screen. The seats are all crappy at F1. NFL you can see entire game from your seat.
I've been to a few F1 events in places like Melbourne, Monaco and Singapore. Vegas just seems like it is the wrong place to hold a race for much the reasons you mention. I doubt F1 would do a 10yr deal but if that was really a possibility, Vegas would be much better off building a dedicated motor sports park. Then it wouldn't be as dependent on the F1 circus coming to town, could attract more events and motorsports fans would get a much better experience. I've heard friends who are involved in sponsorship and hospitality for F1 and they weren't very impressed by the event and neither apparently were many of the drivers.
Currently here right now and the traffic on a Saturday night was shockingly well. Definitely more foot traffic in front of the Paris/horse show but driving has been. Better than many times before

Jacob my husband and I were planning on visiting LV in November. Now we want to avoid F1 construction. When do you think the strip will be cleared to visit? December? January? Thanks for your help!
I am a new cab driver here I have already seen what a pain the preparations are, and I will take at least a few days off during the event not sure how folks are going to get around during this event. ?
Jacob, great channel. Please address construction of the Bright Line system and how it and continued F1 construction combined will affect the area over the next few years. If you've already covered the topic, my apologies (link please).
Never been to Vegas but I've read that because of the dry climate oil and lubricants on the road from traffic just stays there for months until it rains when it turns into a slick oily sludge that's hard to wash away. Honestly, if that's true and I lived in Vegas I'd take a water hose to the track just before the race would start and turn the roads into a slip'n'slide, as payback.
The Golden Gate Bridge was built to have the weight of vehicles pass over. The few times that it was closed to traffic and people were allowed to walk on the bridge, the bridge flattened under the static weight of people standing on the bridge. Your walkways may not handle the static weight of people standing on it if it was packed. Just a thought.
The 1st week in November we are staying on the strip. I booked this many months ago...I just realized that the F1 construction is going on while we are there! I was upset that I didn't catch this before I booked all my flights and rooms. If I could cancel, I would.
Why I’ll always stay at southpoint and the M now. They really screwed up big time and it already showed when they had to lower prices of rooms across the board just so a few foreigners with money could watch. Let it continue to decline😂
Perfect title Jacob ! And F1 can’t figure out and learn from the first race . Equation. I think is easy, revenue without F1 exceeds what F1 brings to Vegas , re route the track
I hate F1 with every bone in my body, it destroys Vegas and it destoryed it last year when I was taking my family to a once-in-a-lifetime vacation - no Bellagio fountains, no Mirage volcano, blocked sidewalks...
Hi Jacob, great vid.. quick question, do you know what the best way to get from the Rio to the end of E Harmon Ave, to the stat finish line grandstands, TIA
The Grand Prix should be in a parking lot. The old Grand Prix was in the parking lot of Caesars Palace. I don’t know if that’s possible anymore. But the Grand Prix could easily be in one of the industrial areas up by Nellis Air Force Base and the Las Vegas speedway. Bobbing and weaving through some empty parking areas in some of the not yet leased out buildings, would leave plenty of space for grandstand, pit Lane, and a good time for all. The layout isn’t all that long for Formula One, so be easily doable. The parking lot for Las Vegas Speedway is huge enough to probably handle 1/3 to 1/2 of the total length of the course.
I moved out of Vegas a year before the first F1, and my best friend works on the strip... She's already exhausted with it. She said it isn't as bad but not by much this year. It's become her least favorite time if the year. I'm so happy I left when I did. 20 years was enough.
We used to go to Vegas around the November/December time-frame. Kind of a tradition. Won't be doing that anymore. They need to move F1 to Henderson, or Barstow.
I thought F1 already had a 10-year deal locked in to have the race in Las Vegas until 2032. This is the first I heard of only 3 years. Hopefully, Clark County/Las Vegas officials will get out of the F1 races as soon as possible. And any way the locals/visitors can petition to remove the race from LV? If so, I'm sure we could get millions to sign it.
I'm a big F1 fan. I do enjoy the race, but it's not good enough to warrant the disruption to business and "regular" people's vacations. IMO they should build a purpose built F1 track just outside of Vegas.
Jacob mentioned the logistics of the event. In this and most other events, logistics is something that is often ignored ... until it asserts itself. Many a military campaign ended in disaster because logistics were downplayed.
I'm a Mexican that currently lives in Europe. I go to Vegas 1-2x per year on the Mexican holidays, people that know, know that we spend money to have a great time like you said. Mexico has money, it's just not spread out as much as in US. I was told by a couple luxury stores in Caesars Forum one year that Mexican Independence weekend in Vegas is the second highest selling weekend each year, only behind Chinese New Year...that says a lot. Jacob, glad you know that and not ignorant to stuff like that. Also Europeans aren't used to tipping, which probably doesn't help in most of Europe, tipping is not expected as workers make a "normal" wage and like in US that most service jobs make their moeny on tips not wages
I love Jacob, he's the ONLY Vegas TH-camr that keeps it real. He doesn't sugar coat it, he tells it like it is and gives an honest review. Unlike Norma Geli, Travel Ruby, the god awful Vegas Starfish and that one chick with fake lips/ boobs/ butt/ hips....they're all giving paid off, biased reviews. Their meals and restaurants were comped in exchange for good press. Jacob is a real one!
glad to hear it isn’t as bad but i’m think it is still horrible. was out there year this time for bday trip and didn’t enjoy it…avoiding it this year altogether and prob will continue to do so until it stops. Construction and work zones i can deal with but if you limit access and views i draw the line. Appreciate what you do please don’t stop!
We were tourists last year in August, we did not expect the disruption and for the increase in costs, it was a pain in the arse. The construction on ths strip, the utilities that were not working, LV did not need F1.
I went at this time last year and was totally put off by the inconvenience with rideshare detours and other obstacles. The monstrosity in the middle of the Bellagio fountains didn't help. Off the balcony of Cosmo, where my room was give me a ringside seat to the horrific traffic on LV boulevard and the shit show occurring below me. Never again! With gaming and jacked up prices, it may be the last time I go there.
I was there last year right before it and i had no idea it was going to be there. Our trip sucked because of it and my wife ended up with a rip in her Achilles from it so it made it even worse. We were at the Cosmo and you couldn’t walk in front of Bellagio which made everything a pain in ass. So we were about to book a trip again and see they’re doing it again. We thought it was just once and now it sucks because Vegas starts getting cooler in Temp after midway of October and I’m from Florida so we like it hot not cold. 75 is cold to us.
I’m experiencing all this right now in Vegas. 15 is closed in parts, miserable to get to strip. All the scaffolding is allready going up. Can’t even walk around. Hot mess!!
Went beginning of November and was horrible. Grandstands everywhere blocking views outside all hotels. Foot traffic and driving was hard due to all the sidewalk obstruction. Locals said been going on for several months then continue for another few months to deconstruct. I think all this trouble for months for just one weekend will resonate with tourists by bad word of mouth in next few years. Will avoid Vegas totally in the late summer to fall months.
Blocking the view from bridges may prevent idiots from dropping bottles or other items onto the race cars as they go by. Much like some idiots drop rocks from Interstate overpasses onto the vehicles below.
Should the F1 contract in Vegas be extended to 10 years?

A Taxi cab driver told us he had an executive from The Paris Hotel in his cab after F1 last year and he asked how was F1 and the person said "We lost money". Many locals don't want F1and businesses do not want F1 renewed after 3 years. Many tourists I've talked with did not like the construction leading up to it including myself.
You believe that guy😂
@alexj.5207 Yes, because there are news reports of the Paris losing money as well as other Caesars Properties. In fact, MGM has stated they are losing money now on this year's F1.
I think a lot of the negative attitude is due to the arrogance of the F1 people. The exorbitant amounts of money they demand is not worth it. A bottle of water that was overpriced is really really overpriced during F1.
I'm a visitor, and I don't like it....why not have the race in the desert roads
LOL
Very timely update since I arrive tomorrow, thanks Jacob! Did the video get cut off? Seemed to end abruptly..
Jacob will you be covering the Tropicana implosion live?
Hi Jacob
We are so glad that we can now hear your video.
When you are in the Casino your volume is really low and can’t hear you.
Love your videos.
Great job Jacob - thanks for explaining and breaking it down for us !
I just booked a trip the week before the race and HATE that they block off the fountains.
Looking forward to Vegas GP next week. One of my favorites on the F1 calendar.
I was planning on going to Vegas 2 week before f1 without realizing it and ended up canceling due to f1
I had planned on going to Vegas last fall thinking as long as I avoided the actual race weekend (among other big events) I would be fine.. then I realized I was wrong.
Screw F 1
6-8 months of construction for 3 days is insane.
Great video! Good you did this. Love how you say it like it is. No BS. Not like other videos about Vegas.
Much more balanced vs the stuff you posted last year, kudos on that to you. A good suggestion to organizers is to convey US tipping culture to the foreigners in some way or another. "gentle suggestions"
I was there for year 1, but I am not a F1 spender.
I was in Singapore for their F1 it barely impacted city travel... vegas was dumb to have F1 without taking care of the citizens first
Hi Jacob, thanks for the video! So going the first two weeks in December would be a bad idea as the scaffolding would still be up that time?
Great job laying out the issues, JacobslifeinVegas.
Thank you always for your constructive interesting updates🤝🙏🙏
O boy, First time going to Vegas Oct 21 for 5 days. My wife and I are staying at Paris. Waited my whole life for this ( Im 64) Figures. Fingers crossed,,,,
I have nothing against the F1 I just feel it would have been alot better to go have it near the speedway where its more room to build the track without disturbing the daily going ons on the strip
They should build a tram train from the airport to the strip.
Soo sick of fake ubers
Yeah I really do t get the appeal of that either, it sounds lame af to me!
The construction workers who setup and tear down this event make Bank! But the rest of us suffer. My 2 cents.
Currently here right now and the traffic on a Saturday night was shockingly well. Definitely more foot traffic in front of the Paris/horse show but driving has been. Better than many times before
Hi Jacob-Love the info you share! Planning to visit Vegas next month for Halloween but second guessing now, with f1 construction. Can I view the work phases, so I know where to stay what to plan? Do you think casino hosts will comp more during the setup times? Be well, Sherry
Vegas is a no go October thru December 1 😂. Not dealing with that nonsense
Damn I goin for my birthday in a few weeks
@@trefincher714 You can still have fun, but road closures will be a nightmare. Hope you don't plan on driving anywhere
@@linger4605I’m going october 23-28. The first two nights I’m staying at west gate but I wanna be able to get to the flamingo/horseshoe area with the monorail, will that or walking near flamingo/horseshoe be affected do you know? The last 3 nights I’m staying on Fremont street, the race has no affect up there I’m assuming, other than maybe making it more busy
@@johnwickspencil908 Possibly. There's a high probability you will be affected. Search "what will be closed for f1" for more details. KTNV breaks down a lot of it. Be prepared for other alternatives and expect redirects
Excellent point on the fact that we experience traffic due to other events so if we complained about F-1 then yes, it had to be really bad.
People are slowly moving away from the strip to stay and going downtown
I was a Caesars guy for 20 years-I switched to Circa about a year and a half ago and never fo to Caesars. The comps are astronomical compared to Caesars- and the machines are way better.
Jacob my husband and I were planning on visiting LV in November. Now we want to avoid F1 construction. When do you think the strip will be cleared to visit? December? January? Thanks for your help!
F1 was the worst decision Vegas made Period!!! Locals suffered the most. Big headache!!!
7:28 safety capacity to stop crushes
Jacob - F-1 possibly could be done at Nellis AFB . Lots of room and won't bother anyone . ( Except resident aliens )
You mean the track…. Pretty sure Nellis would not allow such a thing
@@MH_6160Well maybe yes but it was an idea
The Golden Gate Bridge was built to have the weight of vehicles pass over. The few times that it was closed to traffic and people were allowed to walk on the bridge, the bridge flattened under the static weight of people standing on the bridge. Your walkways may not handle the static weight of people standing on it if it was packed. Just a thought.
The 1st week in November we are staying on the strip. I booked this many months ago...I just realized that the F1 construction is going on while we are there! I was upset that I didn't catch this before I booked all my flights and rooms. If I could cancel, I would.
Great video Jacob.
How will it affect Paradise Road? I'll be flying in on Thursday and usually have the cab take that route down to Fremont.
I'm a big F1 fan. I do enjoy the race, but it's not good enough to warrant the disruption to business and "regular" people's vacations. IMO they should build a purpose built F1 track just outside of Vegas.
i was in Vegas last week, i stayed in an airbnb and the strip is already under construction... all roads are under construction.. it's really bad..
Jacob mentioned the logistics of the event. In this and most other events, logistics is something that is often ignored ... until it asserts itself. Many a military campaign ended in disaster because logistics were downplayed.
You make some very great points!!!
Thanks!
Get the F1 out of Vegas!!!
There is a reason they call it F you(one).😂
The construction is awful. Working on the strip is already getting tough to get to.
We were tourists last year in August, we did not expect the disruption and for the increase in costs, it was a pain in the arse. The construction on ths strip, the utilities that were not working, LV did not need F1.
Jacob, you should make a video on the Tropicana implosian! Go and witness it!
