  • Jackery and Electric Hot Pot Cooker (Did not go well)
Planning on trying car camping at some point in the future and had an idea to use an electric multi cooker with a portable power source. I own a small Jackery, it is the Explorer 240 and wondered if it would be powerful enough to use with an electric saucepan, mult icooker type thing.

The simple answer is it does not work. Not with the small power station anyway. Shame really as the idea is a good one.May work better with a larger power station but as i do not own one then will probably never find out.
About the Muti Cooker. Its actually an electric saucepan, the little appliance worked just fine when I plugged it into the mains and rammed the power lead all the way into the handle. I can see there are multiple uses for the thing. Hotels and B&B's, caravans, campsites etc if you are on a budget and do not want to pay exorbitant prices eating out or/and like me have a food intolerance that means it is less hassle to cook for ones self rather than trying to eat out not trusting the cafe/restaurant to serve up something that would potentially cause harm.
If you have any thoughts on the subject feel free to add something in the comments and we can all learn together.
    Items used:
Jackery Explorer 240. I bought this from Amazon when they had a flash sale. Think it was a 20% discount over the usual price. It is well worth checking prices to get the best deal before parting with your hard earned cash.
Vocha Electric Hot Pot. Picked that up on Amazon for £32.99 as an impulse purchase. There are other makes out there that look exactly the same and I have also seen them on eBay. Build quality is ok. Care needs to be taken not to burn anything on the bottom as it cannot be soaked in water.

You need an American plug in and higher watted solar generator. It worked fine for mine. But I have a 500 watt solar generator.

Yeah if you have the bigger more powerful jackery it'd work all good.

I think the problem is that the saucepan switches off when it reaches temperature and then the power supply detects that no current is being drawn so switches off. Therefore plug an distribution board into to power supply. Then plug a lightbulb of the lowest wattage that you can find into the distribution board as well as the saucepan. My thinking is that the power supply will still output power due to the lightbulb drawing power
I had a similar problem with "smart" power supply which was cured by using a dumb one from the pound shop!

1000 is needed if you want to cook using a power station.

There are lots of low wattage appliances that could be fun off lower wattage batteries, just none that I know of could run off the 240 Explorer. My MyMini Noodle Cooker draws 250, which is just a bit too much for this battery.

I was just thinking the same thing. I have a 400w power inverter build in my truck. I better check rhe continuos watts before buying the pot. By the way, is it a 2 proung or 3 proung cord?

It’s a standard UK 3 pin kettle plug. Glad it was of some use to you. I failed so others do not have to lol 👍

Just cook on a Trangia and a camping pan, less things to carry. Or a backpacking stove with a small Isobutane canister with ventilation. I’ve used it in a hotel, I even make my coffee there with a Sea to Summit colapsable pot and a mini electric burner. Why carry all that?

The idea was to utilise the power station to its max potential. Never thought of using a Trangia or gas stove in a hotel. Thanks for the input 👍

What did you think would happen when you plug an appliance that pulls nearly 1000 watts into a battery that only supports 240 watts🙄

Well the electric pot never claimed to be a saucepan.. It is intended to boil water for coffee tea ramen soup.

It was never going to work, the Jackery is way too underpowered.

Yes, I should have read it’s limitations first. I screwed up so others do not have to. The idea in principle works I just need a bigger power station. Thanks for the input.
