Black Pudding and Halloumi Fries
Black Pudding and Halloumi Fries cooked on Soto knock off stove
Had an idea to cook black pudding and halloumi at the end of a large outcrop of land leading into the sea. Weather was too wild and windy. Could have bailed but I was hungry and wanted my black pudding and halloumi so ended up in a car park below. Weather decided it did not like me but I was not going to give up. I ended up cold, wet and windswept but it did not matter.

Woolicombe to Bull Point Lighthouse I absolutely love travelling along challenging rugged coastlines. Fresh sea breeze in my face, unfamiliar ground underfoot and uncertainty of what the weather will throw out. Experiences like this I find exhilarating and really fun. Was at a loose end so filmed my short journey from Woolicombe to Bull Point Lighthouse. Can highly recommend it if you are in th...

Bought some Costco burgers and they reminded me of a Wimpy cheese burger I had as a kid so decided to make my own. Bun mix (well bun ish) I made from a Gluten Free mix of 50g buckwheat flour and 50g Dove Farm bread flour mixed in with a little bicarbonate of soda and cream of tartar to give it some rise and and egg to bind it together. Also threw in a few dried herbs for fun. Enjoyable little o...
Lixada Titanium folding Wood Stove

Thought I would try one of these Lixada Titanium Wood stoves. First impressions were really positive considering I purchased this with a titanium alcohol stove for very little money as they were in the Amazon sale. All was well until I looked at the actual functionality of the little titanium stove. Boil plate placement is a little high and not suitable for a Trangia alcohol stove due to it bei...

There is a new cycle route just opened quite close to me so thought I would oil the Dawes Galaxy Cross and give it a go. I picked up the route from Worle train station and headed off. Cycled to the sea at Clevedon. Brought along a new stove and ground chair just to see how they perform along with my trusty Silverant teapot. All music is from my Artist paid subscription. First outing with my new 750ml pot with bail handle that was kindly sent to me from Silverantoutdoors. With the exception of Zebra Billy Cans just about all of my outdoor cooking pots have handles on ...

Macro Photography Have always wanted to try Macro Photography but do not have the budget for expensive kit. Bought a second hand macro lens made by Tamron and used it with my Cannon M50 camera. I bought the M50 a while back to make TH-cam videos. Coupled these together with my Viltrox adapter this converts my camera to accept EF Canon lenses. The idea was to use what I have and just buy the min...

Will Fire Maple Gas Lamp Work With Butane Gas Cartridge?
Question - if it's so awful, why and how did you stick with it for a year?
Good question, not seen anyone else use this in any meaningful situation so decided to give it a go and tried it in different seasons just to see if the mat was actually any good. Tried it in a hammock also. Was not fair to slate unless it had a propper test. Very disappointing mat. I wasted my money so others do not have to.
Rub a wax candle on the metal poles that squeak onto the nylon pack. Every thing that has a plastic next to metal will squeak.
oh come on, just jam a flat screwdriver into the slot, opn it a bit and then lever up from the bottom
Your wife's not going to be happy when she discovers you drank the last of the milk.
Either this is ASMR or his wife is still sleeping.
I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to stoves! 25+ at the last count, from full blown mega snow melt petrol to Ti one brick solid fuel, in the mix is of course both a nano and a stealth both have their place! But you just can’t compare a £7 flat pac with a £50 engineered masterpiece. If both used as intended there will be little difference between the boil times. About the only thing the stealth can’t do is use a Trangia efficiently. You might as well compare a Jetboil with a maple leaf or Alpkit😂😂😂
Speak up my dude.
Bought 2 one failed within a month.
The burner and wind shield are from the 1960-ies. Year stamped below the three crowns. Before the 1960-ies only meant for burning wood below the pans.
I find being sociable extremely hard work, being on my own is where I find peace. Watching you be comfortable with your own company is very satisfying. Thanks.
I am glad sharing my thoughts was useful to you 👍
Well that was an easy fix Info. You just overcrowded your pan. Haloumi first, then pudding, then reheat cheese. I've never eaten black pud. Imagine it's like coarse, spicy pate. Loved the soto knockoff. Been looking at these as a back-up stove in winter. Thanks Info. :)
You are absolutely right and that was my original plan. Nature was not on my side so that day so I ended up with a soggy dogs dinner lol. Will do that again some time and throw in a couple of fried eggs with runny yokes. Soto knock off is worth a go. Really good fun to use once you learn how to attach the gas can. The real Soto is probably a little more refined but for the price of the knock off it’s a bargain.
When you said "Looking like a dickhead" I just cracked up laughing. You can't be English and be bothered about minor details like a bit of a breeze, and the odd spot of rain. Although to be fair, I got dragged off to all sorts of odd places as a kid, in all weathers, in 1970's clothes. Parents brought themselves a Kagjack each, us kids got a basic poncho each. My Father has a bit of a sense of humour. Us kids got a can of beans, one match and a tin plate. Imitation SAK to open the can with. Thats your dinner. Wether its hot or cold is our problem. This is in Scotland, hind end of nowhere and its raining sideways. At least we had a rock for a windbreak. Which has made me a bit biased on the subject. Soto stove and a table bench to sit at? Lap of luxury mate. 😂😂. Seriously though: Pukka video 👍👍👍 And as someone who loves black pudding I'm definitely going to try that recipe.
Hi. How do you think if i will use antarctic mat on cold concrete will it insulate well?
Simple answer is no. Think you may freeze to death lol. I did a follow up video. Basically I bought this so you don’t have to. Great idea but in practice it does not work. I think the Antarctic label is just marketing hype. Better off with a foam mat. 👍
I just got da 6 panel special edition on the Black Friday sale titanium of course baby
Awesome job. Bit of a learning curve, lovely bit of kit when you get used to it. Absolutely love mine 👍
I like your attitude. Grand job 👍
You are tightening way to much. Destroying the lead seal between tank and burner. Hand tighten and a little bit with the wrench. Just a little. But that is with a brand new seal and too late for now. Regards jeff
Thanks for the tip Jeff. Appreciated 👍
Hi , can you give me a link to where you found the (Butane can Support Legs) the ones I have are really bad. The remote adaptor is next on my wish list. Great lil vid...bex
Hi Becks, had mine for an absolute age and believe they are these ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/gas-canister-stand/ made by Optimus. I sent that remote adapter back as it’s dangerous. Bought the MSR low down. The price brought a tear to my eye but it is a quality piece of kit. Like your vids by the way. All the best 👍
I am quite jealous of your view and abilities, I am quite unsociable myself and am trying to find myself. Might have to give a quick outdoors trip a go!
I have the (BCB?) compass and it failed after a few weeks. It will not point N and is still full of liquid. On the other hand, i was gifted the survival bracelet identical to yours and the compass works great so i keep it in a small pocket survival kit inside my daybag. My Cammenga 3H is my primary and a Brunton Tru Arc 3 is my backup however. Hopefully, i never have to rely on a button compass to survive.
Since I cook a lot of tea stainless steel is a must. Pity Trangia isn't making one themselves.
"Unsociable" Defined as a low tolerance for Sheeple, Lemmings et al. Quality over Quantity.
👍
It's the Jackery - something about the Jackery turning off after temp on Denizen is reached. I still like my Denizen, the Denizen gets hot fast ... there are other low watt cooking appliances that don't turn off when plugged into a Jackery, the Denizen is the only one I know about
When plugged into my JackeryMy Denizen turns off after 2 min of cooking which sucks but it is time enough to cook a steak, the Denizen gets hot fast which is what I like about it. I discovered an 8X8 electric skillet on Amazon for $25 USD, which doesn't turn off when plugged into a Jackery. Good for camping and traveling with a Power Cell like a Jackery et al.
Put it in the can in same orientating as it is in the right stove. there is a pick up pipe inside, and that pipe has to be facing up, so it only gets gas not liquid gas.
Good review. I'd have assumed the bcb fuel would last longer being military issue.
How to attach the belt?
I guess you could make a pizza oven out of the rest of your fire brick. Or you could line up woodstove with them. They were just like masonry, traditional fire bricks. Just lighter weight.
Le mieux reste d'écarter le collier avec une petite pince 🤷🏻♂️ c'est pas parce qu'il à été concu pour le faire avec n'importe quoi quand on n'a rien qu'il faut le faire avec n'importe quoi.
Worked perfectly 👌
Glad it helped you 👍
can a tube pan or Bundt pan meant for cakes be used over another small burner set up?
Interesting though. Probably not enough heat to cook but maybe enough to keep warm 👍
Good stuff! Maybe I'll be getting one of these for my hammock, but it's probably overkill since I already got the DD underblanket plus I usually double down with a foam sleeping pad inside the hammock so it also spreads it out a wee bit! 👌
Millets - stove + 12 tablets for £8.
just love real video reviews, not the best sound, not the best focused camera. real life, nit pretending Hollywood movie !!! thanks !
Thank you for the review. This just popped up in my feed, and I am looking for something for a bugout bag. I live in Wisconsin, and it can get insanely cold here. I definitely wanted something I could use to get off the ground. You proved this will not work for my application and saved me a bunch of money. Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful to you. I was really disappointed in the product 👍
Theas safe alcohol stove does come in handy especially when you want to save yourself from toating a heavy gas tank up a steap hill
Thank you 😊👌
Where do you buy vermiculite bricks with EU shipping ?
Hi Amazon sell them or eBay
Thank you , that helped. From South Africa.
I used the same method on Mt Andre Verdier knives.
Thanks for sharing this was really interesting as zi have just shifted from aluminium to titanium for my wild camping 👍😎
Price ?
Pliers are fine-or ice cube tongs. I use the upside down skillet for a lid when possible. I’m always afraid I’ll lose the magnet; I’m going to need a foolproof way to keep track of it.
.......
How about fire dragon gel with some silver foil
I have the Trangia 27. I'd love to find a GSI (or other brand) stainless steel kettle that would fit in the 27. I have a kettle by Redcamp that "almost" fits. The spout sits on the lip of the Trangia pot and there is just barely enough space to make it work with the fry pan. But it would be great to find on just a bit smaller or differently designed to fit as well as the Trangia kettle. Ya know, Trangia could solve this problem themselves by manufacturing a 27 kettle out of anodized aluminum and stainless steel. Obviously there is a market for them.
You deep fried stuff in the woods with an alcohol burner and a mess kit! Damn, that's a premier right there. Not the kind of food one thinks about when preparing something on the woods with limited facilities. But you pulled it off 😀. An easy tip to kick it up a notch: just take a potato and slice it there. Leaps and bounds tastier than pre-fried frozen stuff.
I use the aluminium pot that night-light candles are in. The tall ones are best.
Which alcohol burner do you use in the stove InfoZ? I have tried mine with a little 20ML burner and it just doesn't hold enough fuel, and my shoe polish tin burners are just that bit too big.
There are lots of alcohol stoves out there that would probably be suitable. I use Speedsterstoves a lot and really like them. Cheap and simple. XBoil alcohol stove is good. Try to stay away from expensive shallow titanium stoves they are not great for this purpose. Hope that helps👍
What about filling the bottom with carbon felt and then just use alcohol?
GSI is good stuff.
Ref the puck stove you lost nearly all the fuel when you put it on the fuel, put the puck into a small tin it will last longer
