Hi-Spec sensor test: Sony IMX291 vs IMX322 vs AR0230

TOP - Warrior XM G1S - IMX291 + Huawei HISILICON Hi3516D
MIDDLE - DOD LS470W - IMX322 + NTK96655

This video was just what I was looking for IMX291 vs IMX322, The IMX291 should be better, but it would appear the extra gain makes the picture too noise to be useful. Demo very nicely done, however, I would say the focus points are not quite the same between the cameras. I would expect the Image quality of the Sony sensors in daylight to be the same. At night, the IMX291 is better at bring up the darker areas, but at the cost of increasing the Noise in the foreground image. Based on this, I would stay with the IMX322. However, the DSP's are not like for like and this may be the real issue. Hisilicon are not great..

first of all let me say thanks for taking the time to do this comparison - is stuff to choose btween imx291 and imx322 - yes i understand that imx291 lack dynamic range but the brightness is unbelievable - also imx322 is a beast reading license plate at night - so this is a tough decision for me to choose

I would say 291 more noisy, sometimes at night you can't see the number, when other two the number is readable. Good video!

Very helpful review as i was planning to get G1s for night recording. It appears that the noise level for G1 and G1s is way intolerant.

IMX291 was night camera. Only IMX291 is noisy at night(probably one should add shielding). Drivers preferred IMX322 because of easy color. 04:31

Depends on the purpose. To me, the IMX322 seems to have less noise, but it is not as sensitive in the dark. The IMX291 is clearly able to work better in the dark, but it suffers from lack of dynamic range and has more noise.

we can use VLC player to made footage be brighter easily. The cost of increase gamma in VLC is: picture is more noisy.

Johan, I can't agree with you. Number plates of all night videos are better visible on IMX322. IMX322 is the best at night.

What a great video, friend. I am curious.... did the cameras all use the same mount? Because the 291 looks to be the roughest video for vibration. Or is there onboard stabilization for the other two?

The ISO setting and therefore the noise amount in the Warrior XM G1S at the end of the video is almost insulting.

IMX291 in this video has agressive 3d DNR. I see artifacts of noise reduction ( 3DNR - dinamic noice reduction). these noise cancellation artifacts blur the sharpness of the image. if it is possible to reduce noise reduction, then it is possible that they will be the best matrix in the test.

1:39 In this shot in IM291/IMX322 you can already see licence plate on Silver Nissan on Apitina ensor NO. Becomes visible after 6 secs. IMHO on IMX322 licence plate is more clearly visible.

You can't compare it, since the yi has 165°, Warrior 150°, LS470W 140° lens. On 1:39 you can still see the red car on the right + the door on the right, on the LS470W you can see neither of it.

Тут сказалась нехватка динамического диапазона, шумы есть, но в плане различить тёмные объекты IMX291 мне кажется лучшим вариантом.

хороший сенсор imx322 ночью особо радует , стоит на регистраторе сяоми dvr 70 за 2500 , и дерет многих регистраторов и за 10к и за 15к))
