Don't know about dash cams but the Starvis makes a tremendous difference in trail and surveillance cameras.

It seems to me STARVIS mode is most useful in static videos, ie. CCTV applications and parking mode recording in dashcams. Recording at higher speeds with STARVIS mode on is frankly terrible... :(

let me tell you why.The IMX291 uses HUAWEI HISILICON DSP,but the IMX322 is NT96660

100% this video is more about processors used than sensors

It looks like the 291 just overexposes or amplify the raw signal waay over what it can do with control.

I can't read the car registration plates on starvis 291 unless they're too close and stopped moving. Meaning, if someone hits my car, they have to stop in front of the dash cam to have their plates recorded. It beats the purpose of having a dash cam. The 322 looks darker, but I can see all license plates, moving or not, near or far.

yep, exactly spot on. There is no point in having a brighter image blurred by movement, when the application is a moving car dashcam.

Terrible sharpness at IMX291, IMX322 looks much better

looks like crap. I love to watch and analyze videos from my dashcam and the video quality must be good. The night mode amlifies the signal far too much - contrast and signal-to-noise ratio are diminished to a very high degree. I think larger sensor (e.g. 1") and/or high power infrared leds would do a better job.

IMX291 looks like I would bump up brightness 10 levels but also add oil painting filter to IMX322 image. IMX291 look blurry, washed out and the moire from matrix noise in starvis mode destroys picture quality.

I really don't understand the reason to design the chip...what a terrible quality...
The application is useless. Who will turn off the light at night?

That's like saying when cars first came out. Why buy a car when horses can go into forests, across shallow rivers and you can ride it all day. Or 1st computers where it's the size of refrigerator and can only add 2+2. Starvis is still in its infancy. Maybe in 10-15 years from now it will be amazing. So it's good to design the chip now because you have to start somewhere. That's why successful people are rich. They don't think about negative but keep pushing and try new things.
