Angry Jesus I've been doing computer repair for several years now. And I've found out that ESD does exist, but is harmful only under certain conditions. Dry air (I had felt static discharge through the esd strap when the humidity was around 40%), lots of dust in the case, and right after doing laundry. But I don't see much of a concern, I used a plastic card to straighten CPU pins without an esd strap and it was fine. I think the only time it becomes an issue when you touch a component that has a more negative or more positive metal than what's on the opposite side of the component. (A CPU having gold pins and you set it on a steel case, your body acts like the electrolyte in a battery and creates a current through the cpu)

    • @everythingquads
      @everythingquads 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Got to agree on the BS ESD wristband. I've seen bigclive and EEVBlog review these with a rather tough in cheek approach. Its common sense, than if there is no path to ground, the charge will remain. Electronic components are more robust these days, with many devices having ESD protection built in. However when considering the price of the components, and a couple of dollars for a GROUNDED wrisband, only an idiot would take the risk.

Eh, this is too much work but cool none the less. I used to buy broken iPad's on eBay and ran into this alot. The glass and LCD were broken so previous owners couldn't unlock them. I've had pretty good success getting in touch with the former owners and they happily remove them from their iCloud. There's too much labor involved here to make it worth my time buying locked ones.

Three things from this video and reading comments:
    1) Wireless ESD is completely bogus. We joke about this at work when someone forgets to connect their ESD strap to ground.
    2) This is a tutorial on how to be a more proficient thief/criminal/bad person/etc. iCloud is there to protect the consumer. Want to impress people? Show a guide disabling iCloud on a device that has Touch ID. Good luck with that.
    3) The comments about wireless ESD and the real purpose of this video in regards to stolen iPads. I'm impressed with people not being ok with this. And how people are genuinely amused by an idiot wearing a "wireless" ESD strap. Gold.

The grounding strap this technician is wearing is not the wireless kind that everyone is assuming it is. It is the kind of strap that has a cord that snaps into place on top of the strap. That is a clean room that is temperature controlled and being grounded for ESD safety is not a requirement for this type of work. This company deals with data recovery, memory swaps, etc. I would bet this technician is highly qualified for this level of work.

He's not going to invest a couple of hundreds of dollars into equipment to break even or take a loss lol I work in the repair biz and this is perfect for a tech who has good amounts of abandoned devices to refurbish from customers who didn't want to invest the money to repair them, never came to get them after declining service/marked unrepairable due to BER (beyond economical repair) or pay for them after being repaired. We have a graveyard of stuff we could fix and recycle for customers in a jam who dont want to fork out a mortgage payment for a new device. This is def a great piece of equipment due to Apple being useless when it comes to even helping their own customers.

Hey Rewa, great video. Pretty awesome device and software you got going on here. Im no apple expert and this looks impressive nonetheless. I do note 2 things, one more funny and the other more sad:
1, isnt it called a NAND flash? or just storage ic? there is no harddisk in this ipad. (you kept calling it harddisk)
2, where is the wire from your ESD protection to ground? th-cam.com/video/AYETzuYlEjE/w-d-xo.html ??? you are not using a "
Anti-Static Wireless Electronic Wrist Strap" ?? cause they are proven NOT to work.
Other than that, the flash editing tool looks awesome, is a modded iphone in there? would love to see inside. keep the good videos comming Rewa

Not from what I know. Out of warranty repairs can and will be done on devices repaired by a third party, but if parts other than Apple's are used they will also be replaced and added to the bill.
This "fix" however is circumventing security measures. The only viable reason to do this on a device that isn't stolen is if you've made the poor mistake of enabling two factor authentication and can't remember your key.

FusionFall Maina If you're buying a locked device, it's more than likely stolen. I've had my stuff stolen and sold to some unsuspecting person, that person does not get their money back when police recover it. You should have enough sense to know it's stolen if it's locked. Most people don't sell their stuff with their info still on it. Again, there is no legit use for this.

So let me get this straight. All you have done is take the storage chip out of the iPad, and replaced it with another by including a slightly different serial number, restored it to factory settings by using a PC to reload the software back onto it, and by then got it to be treated as new?
This isn't as much unlocking it (and accessing everything you have one it), but more about just turning a paperweight of a tablet into a useful one.
