I got stuck in a downpour between Bowling Green and Louisville, Kentucky on my way back to Columbus,Ohio. It was the coldest wettest I think I'd ever been. But now it's just a another story I can boast about to my weekend warrior buddies ! Who by the way wussed out on the trip ! You know who you are!!!🤣🤣

Loved the western style narration. It definitely makes you feel sorry for people that don't get to experience the trials, difficulties and triumphs and failures of traveling exposed to the elements like that. I love the dumb stories that I have from motorcycle trips and they're really about as close as you can get to how people experienced the world before it was tamed as it is now.

Rode a 850 Yamaha triple, in a 40°F downpour from Clearwater to Gainesville for Thanksgiving dinner once. That was the longest, most miserable 140 miles I have ever ridden. When I got to my best friends farm they parked me by the wood stove and gave me a Tervis cup 2/3 full of black coffee and 1/3 full of bourbon, and they watched steam rise off of me for the next half hour. If you're outstanding then sometimes it will be in the rain.
The worst ride I ever made was a 1998 cbr 900rr it was 1999 and I was riding from Myrtle Beach to Atlanta, didn’t have a choice I had to be in Atlanta, and Hurricane Floyd hit, it took 6 hours of sitting in stopped traffic in evacuation mode like 18 inches of Rain of course it Rained almost all the way to atlanta, to the point where it was tough to even see, probably stopped 20 times freezing my ass off soaked, that 5 hour ride to 18 hours about 8 of it it dead stopped one way traffic. I’ll NEVER forget that trip.

Growing up riding in Canada, I learned that a garbage bag works as a raincoat in a pinch. Bein' wet in the cold can really mess ya up.
have you ever heard of that stuff called blue locktite for those air cleaner screws? and you better hope they used it on the air cleaner backing plate. the exhaust fastener, now that's something different, but 43 years on shovels has caused me to find the home brew cure for that.

If there's enough of the cush drive is still intact you can shim them using thin plastic cutting boards or my favorite $2 fix placemats. Cut them to size and slide them in. That's the Ozarks mountains approved repair.

I cannot count how many times in the 28 years I've owned my FXR that the teardrop air cleaner screws fell out. That's when I notice that the bolts holding the carb onto the heads are loose too!

Having always owned a bike since 2019 and only had cars for maybe 2 of those years AND living in Canada ... I have ridden through some precarious weather every season! But I would change it for the world!

Us PNW riders are so into riding gear because getting wet = getting cold which can become very dangerous very quickly here. Once you get wet, getting dry is near impossible if you are out riding all day.

I always use Frogg Toggs for riding in the rain, the cheap stuff
I got the rain gear from first manufacturing..love it. Inexpensive compared to some and well made

The issue isn't Oregon, it's quite literally Portland.. it dictates the rest of the state and makes it a shit hole. It's like Seattle and Washington.
How does Shadetree do cardio? He runs the damn bike out of gas! 😅 There’s an ‘81 Ironhead in my stable with a 2 gallon tank that always ALMOST runs out of gas. Running out of fuel is a regular fear on that one

Had a similar KZ1000p. Was also hard starting. Needed the valves set. Was a bit low on compression without adjustment. (GL1500 diaphragm?)
