    These are my favourite games covered by the channel - these smaller games of which there are thousands of in the market, but this channel shows the reality of ones that my group would enjoy. Love you guys, hope you have a good Essen 😀

    I left several comments recently about games I thought were not designed well, but this game was in my opinion designed extremely well. Even down to the smallest details like burned cards used as point counters and having no discard pile at all. Just beautiful game design and I'm interested about other games from this designer.

    Looks like a simple little game full of agonising decisions - I love it! Thanks for the vid, guys! I also like the dynamic Mike brings to the table and how he changes Dave, hehe.

    A really simple-to-explain but deep and neat game. I think I would house-rule one thing, though: when burning and keeping cards, the fourth player would pick in fifth place as well, and the next three would follow counterclockwise.

    I love that you guys play so many of these little games that are relatively easy to teach and pick up, but also have enough thinking to make them interesting.
    Is Nicki’s shirt foreshadowing a game of Wingspan? Hum....

    This game reminds me of hanamikoji in that you try and weave yourself out of the most disastrous thing to do towards the least disastrous thing with only a small hint of what other players can do (unless you are a magician)

    The difference between a german style card game and a true german card game is that the latter comes with specific rules for how to deal the cards. We have rules for everything.

    It’s correct that quite some Germans do deal cards two at a time/two in combination. However, being a German, I can tell you that among hardcore and “serious” gamers it is frowned upon. Serious card players always deal one card at a time going round. Especially with card games there are quite some ‘kindergarten’ versions, so real hobbyists want to separate themselves from casual gamers and their two-cards-at-a-time habit. :) :D

      I typically deal the top and bottom cards together.

    • @clausstocker2580
      @clausstocker2580 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only can speak for Austria and there are quite some "traditional" card games, like "Schnapsen" or "Mulatschak", in which it is typical to deal firstly three cards at a time and then two cards at once. ( 5 cards total per person)

  • @RoderickEtheria
    @RoderickEtheria 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The rules as you listed them left me confused what was the point of the numbers on the cards. So the total on the cards in a suit is more important than the number of cards?

    • @tomwakefield1726
      @tomwakefield1726 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The highest total value of the cards wins, but due to the range of values, more cards will almost certainly beat fewer cards (some exceptions - 87 beating 554 for instance).

    Dave, I enjoy these videos and love your explanations, but your intro bugs me every time. You can't properly say, "Nikki, Lincoln, Mike, and myself will be playing...." Myself is a reflexive pronoun, and using it in the subject of a sentence, it has nothing to reflect back to. There's no antecedent. Think of it this way: if you were playing a solo game, would you say, "Myself will be playing" or "I will be playing"? You should be using "I" in your intros. Nitpick on a fun series.

    • @annashields2475
      @annashields2475 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s plenty of attestation that Dave’s usage of ‘myself’ as a subject is a longstanding one in English. Just because some people (even many grammarians) disagree doesn’t mean he’s speaking incorrectly. en.wiktionary.org/wiki/myself, for instance, demonstrates that while the reflexive use may be the most common, it is by no means the only one.

    • @cornichon2580
      @cornichon2580 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your link describes myself as a reflexive pronoun and says that using it as a subject is "archaic." The following link, from an actual grammar site that is not a wiki, uses this exact example in describing the incorrect use of reflexive pronouns like myself (www.grammarly.com/blog/reflexive-pronouns/). I don't think it's "some people" who disagree, and in any event, I'm not sure why we would discount grammarians on matters of grammar.

    • @tozmom615
      @tozmom615 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      His use of English is an abomination. The universe is at risk of imploding and logic and reason falling apart every time a reflexive pronoun is used inappropriately.
