Learning the ATP Forehand as a FEMALE Player!

  • Like almost every player to touch a racket ever, the forehand is probably the best part of their game. For me, this was always the case as I learned how to properly take the racket back like a WTA player would, and that is how my coach polished my groundstroke up. However, after watching Jennifer Brady's and Daria Kasatkina's matches and highlights, I've noticed that both players have a more modern forehand like the players on the ATP tour. Both players generate a lot of power with their shots and have such a fluid and pristine motion that I admire. In a way to copy those players' strokes, I am going to start practicing and polishing my groundstrokes to fit the more modern playstyle.
The lack of uploads/shorts are just a result of my not being able to play much as I am now in University unfortunately.

Looks good! I have no idea what I'm talking about, but my advice would be to have a slightly higher backswing and keep the wrist and arm loose. On the backhand, engage the whole body.

Just discovered your channel and I think the content is great! Comparing your forehand videos from 5 months ago to now, I can see some great improvements. It's always useful to see a real progression in someone, rather than some coach hitting a shot perfectly already.
Not sure if you need to worry that much about the precise placement of the backswing, because I can see some really great shots, say at 3.45. The shots earlier in the video, such as at 2.12 show closed racquet face just post-contact, so the arm is probably pushing forward too much, but at 3.45 your racquet face is doing more or less what the pros do, brushing up the ball and releasing I think. Perhaps you felt a clear difference while hitting these shots? You can also see by the position of the left hand that the earlier shot was driven too much by the arm (left arm goes back to counteract), while it stays in front for the later shot (so right arm managed to release through the contact).

thank you!! you’re right, the more I was hitting the shots the more I was analyzing on what I was doing wrong or could do better. I keep having trouble making sure i use my body/wrist lag to hit the ball because when I shadow swing I can do it but when it comes to the actual ball I can feel myself tense up a lot like you point out in the video.
