Can I BEAT a Net Rusher? | USTA 3.5 Tennis

Today me and Trey play a set to 6 to see who can come out on top. This is probably one of the better matches I've posted on this channel, so be sure to check out the Road to 4.0 series to see where I started from! I never played against someone who can put the ball away at the net, so it was refreshing to have to modify my game in order to try to out hit Trey at the net. If you want to see more...

Me and Kyle play a set together at a court with THREE different sport lines on it! Though we make a video on the world's "weirdest" court a few months ago, this court feels like a runner up when it comes to how confusing and disorienting the lines get after hitting around for a while. Let me know if there is any advice you can give me to help improve my game, and leave them in the comments belo...

      @@taleintennis Here is the keyword you need to know to work on, split step, whenever your opponent hits, 🦘 jump then react. You have a good starting platform stance when you serve. Are you trying to be a one hander back hand? To hit them just look at the ball then look at the ground then let the ball path hit the face of your racket then you swing your back hand out while pulling your left hand back. Once you got that, then you can aim when hitting those backhand. Try to have a stance when your hitting, you'll hit harder, you have to set yourself up faster as in be on time so you can set yourself up to hit those groundstroke. Predict, predict, predict where your opponent is going to hit by where they are at.

    This says a lot about the state of tennis today. If the sport was respected as it was back in the 80's and 90's they would not have dared put basketball or pickleball lines on the court. Recreational players simply don't hit the ball with the modern tennis swings, such as the wrist snap, etc and interest is way down. Maybe not for TV audiences, but for every day players. Changes need to be made so players can better emulate modern swings.

    fun tip of advice just because it worked out for me in comp last week: if the ball is too far out wide on the backhand side and there's no way you're going to reach it, attempt a left handed forehand up with no spin, I have a 50% success rate and that was all i needed to clutch, it was epic lol anyways that was a beautiful drop shot lol, i love those. also you probably could've won the point on the smash by faking the smash then doing a drop shot because your opponent was so far back. tennis isn't just skill, it's also mind games :D

  • @chubun6631
    @chubun6631 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would rather play on your court than those with cracks, weeds, mold spots, ... at least the ball will bounce evenly and you won't trip and twist your ankles. Regarding advice, you do the split step fairly regularly and that's very good. Just try to do it all the time, especially when you prepare to volley. Most of the time, you seemed to run through your volleys without even stopping. If you are somewhat a beginner (apparently that is the case), I think you have good potential. Pay attention to the fundamentals, split step, unit turn, reading/anticipating your opponent's shot and prepare early, ... Most self-taught beginners never go far because they focus too much on stroke production and neglect the fundamentals.

    • @taleintennis
      @taleintennis หลายเดือนก่อน

      the edges of the court were definately ankle twisters haha, but none the less it is a pretty nice court to play on. thank you for the advice, sometimes i do notice that im too worried on how hard i can hit the ball rather than thinking ahead of my opponent and playing smart.

  • @waynelai354
    @waynelai354 หลายเดือนก่อน

    NiceNice. You are trying the slice a lot. I recommend 2 things for them. One is to add side slice occasionally--one of the biggest benefits of slice is you can add side spin easier than you can on topspin. Just practice slicing with the face of the racket closer to 8 o clock instead of 6 or 4 o clock on forehand side. You should be able to arc it left or right several feet before it lands which is harder for the opponent to time their shot, and also once you get more accurate it can pull the opponent off the court so you can have more of the court to hit a winner into. Second is to add more offensive slices; your slices are going up very high then they come down as a sitter for the opponent to hit. Generally you want high net clearance like that only on topspin not the slices. I only hit high/floaty slice if I am behind the baseline and want to buy time like when they serve out wide and I need time to recover toward center. When you are 2 or 3 feet inside the baseline you can sharpen your angle and attack with slice because you don't need the ball to rise as much before it goes over the net. To do this, start with the racket high on your slice swing (I always think of Federer with his racket up near his ear level on his slice). You can target opponent's feet this way, or just skid it off the court on angles, or knife it to the back corners and follow the ball toward the net to volley. One last thing is you have nice drop shots; you can experiment adding side slice to them so they don't bounce up as high once they land, or backspin to cause them to bounce back toward the net. If you are able to control a slice groundstroke, the same muscles allow you to strengthen your drop shots with backspin.
