The premise of the show is to get a group of singers from very different genres together and each week the pick out 1 artist and the rest either cover their songs (as she is doing now) or sing some of the selected artist's favorite songs. It is a REALLY fun show. There are versions of the episodes with English subtitles -- I highly recommend it. I recommend checking out Henk Poort (the older man on the couch) singing "The Sound of Silence" from this show. He's an opera singer, and he's doing something opera singers never do in this song. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the exhales she does are an intentional stylistic choice. I just assume that whatever comes out of her mouth is intentional at this point, she's that good.
She has the ability to "sell" a song. The voice, the expressions, the body language, the emotions all come together and that is why it's impossible to not love her. Perfect match for Tuomas brilliant composing in Nightwish. And if that wasn't enough she is a very nice person and not a diva.
Floor confessed she had a hard time preparing this cover, since latin style is so far away from what she normally does. Plus she does not speak spanish but she sang in it anyway.

This show is really cool and uplifting! Not typical reality show, but fine artists from totally different backgrounds having fun and celebrating music together. Hopefully you do more Beste Zangers :) (i wouldn't mind more Nightwish either, because musically that band is like box of chocolates, especially live)

Concept of "Beste Zangers"(someone said your dutch NPO 1 of 2 20.35 zaterdagavond) is they take 7 dutch singers from very different genre's together. Each week one of the singers is on the centre couch the other 6 choose a song of theirs to cover, or a they cover a song that is important to the singer on the couch) the guy on the couch who is so excited is Rolf Sanchez, a Dutch/somincan reaggeaton/salsa singer who is (like Floor) not that well known in the Netherlands but is a big star in Spanish speaking America. The reason he is so excited is that this is one of his songs (a #1 hit on the US latin hitcharts in fact) but done with a completely different musical arrangement. The original is a Salsa song, and she has turned it into a sultry latin rock balad. Also this season with Floor is about halfway through, Saturday Floor will be doing a Lady Gaga song for Emma Heesters (dutch youtube cover singer with over a million subscribers, I didn't know her before seeing this show either)

Also you mentioned the accent. I've always found it far easier to sing in a proper accent, rather than speaking in one. I listened to a lot of Rammstein and Sublime as a teenager and sung along perfectly, but I sound completely stupid when I speak German or Spanish. Lol
Definately suggest that you check Floors cover of "Vilja Lied". Much more in your alley and a beautiful performance. Her classical singing style is present there.
7:10 You can safely assume that everything she does is on purpose. She's had plenty of, let's say, "official" training, studied singing for six years at several academies in different styles, been singing professionally for about 20 years, and she's a vocal coach as well. She knows what she's doing. That breathy tone at the end of the sentence fits the song. When you've heard more of her singing, you'll know she doesn't need those breaths at all to keep going. :-)

The others then interpret his/her songs or meaningfull songs to him/her. One person (Denise) put english subtitles on the episodes on youtube, so you can have a look at those !
I wonder if it was not because she was really nervous, and when you're nervous, you tend to get short of breath. You could really see her relief at the end. Just a thought... I might be totally wrong...

Notice that she was in full control of everything else, voice placement, vowel shape, distortion vs clean singing, etc. She might've been nervous before singing but not through the entire length of the song, and not with such precise placement of the breathiness.

You have to watch Floor singing vilja lied. It was the first song of the show. The reactions of her fellow singers on the show are priceless. Truthfully everything she has done so far is amazing. Emma Heesters singing Strong to Floor is also worth looking at. (Floor wrote Strong)
Well, just when you thought Floor couldn't possibly eclipse her previous performances, she just did--she sang Tim's Akkerman's song, "Winner", indirectly to Tim's brother (Tim wrote it for his brother, who's in a wheelchair, but refuses to let his disability deter him from living to the fullest), by singing it to Tim. Goosebumps from the first phrase--the power of inspirational lyrics, sung by a masterful artist! Have a towel around your neck, to catch the tears on one end and wipe your nose with the other!

Floor entrusted several times (also in this show if I remember well) that her desire to sing in a metal band arose when she heard/saw The Gathering (a band from the Netherlands like her) with Anneke Van Giersbergen performing. The Gathering had already released a couple albums in gothic/death doom metal style with a bit of female "angelic" backing vocals here and there, before welcoming Anneke in 1995, and released with her the first metal album fully fronted by a female "classicaly trained" singer (a band called Theater of Tragedy already existed with Liv Kristine, but Liv was more a supporting singer, or was sharing vocals with a male/death metal type singer), although classicaly trained, Anneke doesn't sing "operatic". This album is Mandylion and it created a new wave in metal music, soon bands like Lacuna Coil, Nightwish (who had the particularity to propose opera singing in metal) with Tarja, After Forever with Floor, Epica, and so on, would be born between 1996 and the early 00's. (Then The Gathering would leave the metal world and turn more art rock - about that later). So, all this introduction to ask you, if you'd wish to, to react to The Gathering with Anneke. I'd first go for the beginning of Anneke with them and a song from Mandylion around that time ("Eleanor" at Pinkpop Festival 1996 -they were quite the curiosity back then, but Anneke, as young as she was, was already exceptional and plus she has a really cool attitude), then do something from their later career when they were more art/alternative rock than metal by the end of the 90's. Floor coolly controls(plays) the balance of head and chest sounds in a mixed sound and can sing in an opera way. She also has good control in merging clear sound on the ligaments and driving (growling) sound with false ligaments. In any case, it holds the "resonator cavity" well in the corners of the jaw deep in the pharynx making the sound open or very open, deep or very deep (like Cher). Resetting the sound support (air) helps the sound control well in the next phrase...
The exhales at the ends of the sentences are definitely deliberate - she's putting a lot of breath into the whole song. Even on the loud parts she's keeping that breathier quality. That's not how she sings normally.
She currently sings in: Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Swedish and Finnish. Possibly more.. 😉 She studied classical singing for six years, while singing in After Forever, her first band. She's a vocal and performance teacher in her own right.

For me it is very good, the original song is a salsa, and Floor gives it a much more ballad metal wave, and by the language it speaks decently, I am Latin so I know very well what it is saying, it is understood very well, but obviously with a great accent. This show is all about covering each other's songs. The guy (Rolf Sanchez) is Dutch but has a Spanish background. It is his song that you hear.but he sings salsa, so his original version is very different. Floor has turned it into a metal song (she is a metal singer (front lady of the band Nightwish)). Since Floor is also Dutch and not used to singing in Spanish, her Spanish may not be perfect but I really love her version!
Not sure why, but it sounds like Spanish with an Italian tone to it. This woman has superb talents and techniques. Just insane what she can pull off each time.

The original done by Rolf Sanchez, there on the couch is WAY different, done in very latin style. Floor made it into Latin-Rock. He is really enjoying what she's done with it. And that she took on the challenge of singing it in Spanish when she is not a Spanish speaker. Floor is very brave and versatile.

i loved how she turned the original song and made it much, much better...well, with her vocal range and skills is not surprising, though. Concerning the exhaling, other great singers are doing it too; i recently discovered Lara Fabian covering "Caruso", and she uses the exhale to make a point all throughout the song

Rolf can't believe the Floor interpretation, for very well reasons. The original version of this song is SALSA a very tropical music, is nothing at all with this hard rock version, but it sounds really cool. The another amazing thing is that she don't know anything about Spanish, but her pronunciation is more than acceptable. And of course the impressive talent of her, made this interpretation a big surprise, because is his song, he write it.

This show is really cool and uplifting! Not typical reality show, but fine artists from totally different backgrounds having fun and celebrating music together. Hopefully you do more Beste Zangers :) (i wouldn't mind more Nightwish either, because musically that band is like box of chocolates, especially live)

Concept of "Beste Zangers"(someone said your dutch NPO 1 of 2 20.35 zaterdagavond) is they take 7 dutch singers from very different genre's together. Each week one of the singers is on the centre couch the other 6 choose a song of theirs to cover, or a they cover a song that is important to the singer on the couch) the guy on the couch who is so excited is Rolf Sanchez, a Dutch/somincan reaggeaton/salsa singer who is (like Floor) not that well known in the Netherlands but is a big star in Spanish speaking America. The reason he is so excited is that this is one of his songs (a #1 hit on the US latin hitcharts in fact) but done with a completely different musical arrangement. The original is a Salsa song, and she has turned it into a sultry latin rock balad. Also this season with Floor is about halfway through, Saturday Floor will be doing a Lady Gaga song for Emma Heesters (dutch youtube cover singer with over a million subscribers, I didn't know her before seeing this show either)

@@KaDoDrift Yep! Why I stick with mostly english spoken bands or singers. And there are so many fantastic ones today: 10.10. I'll see Elles Bailey (Wildfire) in Hamburg. Nov, 18th Devin Townsend Project (look for:Deadhead) at the Markthalle. And nov,19th Alter Bridge at the Sporthalle. The dead south will come to Hamburg next year (In hell I'll be in good company). Hoping for Bent Knee to come here (Holy Ghost), and the Bridge City Sinners (Witches wrath). Have fun, looking 'em all up. Only great german female voice I came across lately is Alina (die Einzige). Wish she was more on the rock side.

This gave me chills when I saw it. I've never watched this show before but I'm watching this season/series just for Floor.
Also you mentioned the accent. I've always found it far easier to sing in a proper accent, rather than speaking in one. I listened to a lot of Rammstein and Sublime as a teenager and sung along perfectly, but I sound completely stupid when I speak German or Spanish. Lol
Definately suggest that you check Floors cover of "Vilja Lied". Much more in your alley and a beautiful performance. Her classical singing style is present there.
7:10 You can safely assume that everything she does is on purpose. She's had plenty of, let's say, "official" training, studied singing for six years at several academies in different styles, been singing professionally for about 20 years, and she's a vocal coach as well. She knows what she's doing. That breathy tone at the end of the sentence fits the song. When you've heard more of her singing, you'll know she doesn't need those breaths at all to keep going. :-)
Concept of the show: bunch of Dutch singers from multiple genres come together to sing, each episode is for one of the singers who in that episode doesn’t sing themselves but gets serenaded by everyone w either one of their songs or something they love and each singer just does their thing and in the last episodes there’s duets

The others then interpret his/her songs or meaningfull songs to him/her. One person (Denise) put english subtitles on the episodes on youtube, so you can have a look at those !
re: exhale on the last note thing, that's I think a stylistic choice for this song, not part of her normal style.
I wonder if it was not because she was really nervous, and when you're nervous, you tend to get short of breath. You could really see her relief at the end. Just a thought... I might be totally wrong...

Notice that she was in full control of everything else, voice placement, vowel shape, distortion vs clean singing, etc. She might've been nervous before singing but not through the entire length of the song, and not with such precise placement of the breathiness.

Well, just when you thought Floor couldn't possibly eclipse her previous performances, she just did--she sang Tim's Akkerman's song, "Winner", indirectly to Tim's brother (Tim wrote it for his brother, who's in a wheelchair, but refuses to let his disability deter him from living to the fullest), by singing it to Tim. Goosebumps from the first phrase--the power of inspirational lyrics, sung by a masterful artist! Have a towel around your neck, to catch the tears on one end and wipe your nose with the other!

- Ruben Annink. Won the Dutch TV show Singer/Songwriter and in the spring of his career. Writes his own songs.
- Rolf Sanchez : Latin/Salsa/Reggaeton singer with 3 no 1 hits in the American Billboard Tropical Songs Chart, including the song Que Se Siente that Floor sang for him in the previous episode. He works with Guianko Gómez, producer of Marc Anthony. Like Floor better known outside than inside The Netherlands, especially in Latin America.
- Henk Poort :. Very well known Opera/Operette/Musical singer in the Netherlands for whom Floor sang the Vilja song. Sang the dutch version of The Phantom of the Opera (spoiler: He and Floor will sing that duet in the last episode)
- Tim Akkerman Former : member of the Dutch rockband Di-Rect (1999-2009) and now having a career of his own. His latest album contains American Rock influenced by Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Ryan Adams.

Floor entrusted several times (also in this show if I remember well) that her desire to sing in a metal band arose when she heard/saw The Gathering (a band from the Netherlands like her) with Anneke Van Giersbergen performing. The Gathering had already released a couple albums in gothic/death doom metal style with a bit of female "angelic" backing vocals here and there, before welcoming Anneke in 1995, and released with her the first metal album fully fronted by a female "classicaly trained" singer (a band called Theater of Tragedy already existed with Liv Kristine, but Liv was more a supporting singer, or was sharing vocals with a male/death metal type singer), although classicaly trained, Anneke doesn't sing "operatic". This album is Mandylion and it created a new wave in metal music, soon bands like Lacuna Coil, Nightwish (who had the particularity to propose opera singing in metal) with Tarja, After Forever with Floor, Epica, and so on, would be born between 1996 and the early 00's. (Then The Gathering would leave the metal world and turn more art rock - about that later).
So, all this introduction to ask you, if you'd wish to, to react to The Gathering with Anneke. I'd first go for the beginning of Anneke with them and a song from Mandylion around that time ("Eleanor" at Pinkpop Festival 1996 -they were quite the curiosity back then, but Anneke, as young as she was, was already exceptional and plus she has a really cool attitude), then do something from their later career when they were more art/alternative rock than metal by the end of the 90's. On which I'll come back and suggest if this reaction happens! Have a nice day.
Floor coolly controls(plays) the balance of head and chest sounds in a mixed sound and can sing in an opera way. She also has good control in merging clear sound on the ligaments and driving (growling) sound with false ligaments. In any case, it holds the "resonator cavity" well in the corners of the jaw deep in the pharynx making the sound open or very open, deep or very deep (like Cher).
Resetting the sound support (air) helps the sound control well in the next phrase...

The exhales at the ends of the sentences are definitely deliberate - she's putting a lot of breath into the whole song. Even on the loud parts she's keeping that breathier quality. That's not how she sings normally.

For me it is very good, the original song is a salsa, and Floor gives it a much more ballad metal wave, and by the language it speaks decently, I am Latin so I know very well what it is saying, it is understood very well, but obviously with a great accent. For me she is great, I love her and Nightwish, they are great live ..

This show is all about covering each other's songs. The guy (Rolf Sanchez) is Dutch but has a Spanish background. It is his song that you hear.but he sings salsa, so his original version is very different. Floor has turned it into a metal song (she is a metal singer (front lady of the band Nightwish)). Since Floor is also Dutch and not used to singing in Spanish, her Spanish may not be perfect but I really love her version!

The original done by Rolf Sanchez, there on the couch is WAY different, done in very latin style. Floor made it into Latin-Rock. He is really enjoying what she's done with it. And that she took on the challenge of singing it in Spanish when she is not a Spanish speaker. Floor is very brave and versatile.

Concerning the exhaling, other great singers are doing it too; i recently discovered Lara Fabian covering "Caruso", and she uses the exhale to make a point all throughout the song
I would love to hear you and Floor duet this song. Yes she was trained in opera but she rarely sings it now. BTW in her teens and 20s she was a competitive bodybuilder(6'2" 200+lbs).

Rolf can't believe the Floor interpretation, for very well reasons. The original version of this song is SALSA a very tropical music, is nothing at all with this hard rock version, but it sounds really cool. The another amazing thing is that she don't know anything about Spanish, but her pronunciation is more than acceptable. And of course the impressive talent of her, made this interpretation a big surprise, because is his song, he write it.
