    I viewed it a little differently, felt more like a 3-1-3-3, Trent at the base, Mainoo and Rice slightly ahead with Grealish playing the Ødegaard role where he picks the ball up in all 3 thirds, Kane was playing much higher than he did under Southgate, Saka and Gordon holding width while occasionally coming inside. I rarely saw a box midfield in the game, Trent spent most of his time central in possession with Mainoo occasionally dropping next to him

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can see why you say that, while there were times that Trent came into midfield he was still just flirting with it here, not straying too far from that right side, whereas a lot of the time Mainoo would be the lone central figure allowing Grealish and Rice to puch forwards, Trent then coming into midfield when possession was maintained, I felt like for the most part Mainoo was the deepest of the midfielders, Grealish definitely dropping on the left side and Rice held his shape out on the right once in possession.
      How do you think this team evolves with Foden and Bellingham in the side?
      This is what I think is great though, we have differing opinions on how the game played out and that's why football is brilliant because it allows us to have different interpretations. Thanks for your comment and watching mate, really got me thinking about the game again which was fun.👍

    Whilst it would be very neat and tidy to have a starting spot for all our best players, I think we need to get past focussing on the first 11. If this is how we’re going to set up then the Grealish role is ideal for Foden as well. I like Jude carrying from deep so probably suits the Rice role. Harry gets replaced by a fit Stones but needs to continue to get minutes in case Stones loses form or gets injured.
    We need to build a well rounded and organised squad, with at least 2 specialists for each position. If everyone is fit going into the WC, I don’t want to see us trying to shoehorn 3no. 10’s into the team. International tournament football is a squad game. Forget about bruising egos. It should be the best man for the job at hand. If that means Kane comes off the bench then great. What a head to have on the pitch if pens are required.
    I’d like to see the manager make quick and decisive decisions on style and have us well drilled in at least 2 structures by week one of WC26. Maybe Kane works better with Rash and Eze outside and Jude breaking from deep. Watkins likes to stay high so he’ll want wingers that like to occupy the half spaces, as well as balls into the box. So that’s Gordon and Saka. So just switching the front 3 mid game means the opposition defenders have to completely rethink their positions.
    Work on those patterns. If Trent is going to orchestrate then he needs to know when Rash or Godon are on their bikes without looking up. When Saka is cutting inside, he already wants to be offering the overlap.
    These partnerships need time to fully mature. So let’s pick a route and stick to it. I’d say, even so far as no first caps in yr 2 unless the next Rooney announces himself.

    Really interesting video, Lee Carsley won my support as he won at England under 21 level, a manager who has won something with England already and the comment he made in the first press conference that there is no time for experiments at a tournament level. So players have to know the role. As well it is obvious as you say he is more attack focused, it is looking really good with him.

      Thanks, he was really good for the under 21's. The way he has spoken has impressed me and the manner in which he is providing his tactics through the game is encouraging. Definitely looking more positive. Thanks for watching mate!

      I hate thís new thing in football where the defenders are constantly drifting in to midfield to do what use to be the play makers job. The reason it's happening is because midfielders are shit now. Look at the two lads we have in midfield.
      Rice can get turned on the ball to play forward pass and mainoo can't pass the ball beyond 20 yards.
      Can see this working against the bigger teams. When trent drifts in to midfield he will leave space for them to exploit. Also rice is a holding midfielder who going forward is very creative. He will offer nothing against Spain.
      Then you have mainoo or little gomez the holding players trying to stop attacks. Neither have the mobility or physicality to do it.

    • @ZekkoFootball

      I’m not quite sure I saw that, Grealish gravitated over to the left but wasn’t a LW and while Gordon went central at times, tended to hug the left side. Out of possession it was a 4-4-2 though. Thanks for watching!

    Has he transformed things already, or was it just the fact Ireland aren't any good at football, so England could play more attacking play and freedom?

      I think it’s the latter but I knew people would get carried away with easy fixtures

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      While I think Ireland showed a little too much respect in the first half and they did much better in the second, England showed consecutive passing patterns and progression of play. Things that are not dependent on the opponent, in fact I thought Ireland did quite a good job of pressing for the start of the game and there was a good way round that, overall not too high but there are some definite changes and clear methods of play with Carsley which shows a bright start.

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly, I think tactically and the style of football that he coaches is really good. The answer to your question is in the players and whether they buy into and believe in what he is coaching and perhaps putting aside the fact that he is not a well known 'proven' manager. Given time to coach and get players to understand their roles, I think he could be the answer but it depends on the players themselves. Thanks for watching!

      I actually think for the covering role that he wanted to play in the centre of that back 3, Maguire suited just fine. While I am sure that there will be others who will take his place, he is still a pretty good ball playing CB who with the cover of the other two looked quite comfortable. Don't expect it to be a long term feature in the side.

      It’s by no means a time to get ahead of ourselves, as you mentioned the competition isn’t exactly top tier BUT with England there has always been a lack of foundation, system, attacking ambition and drive regardless of the quality of players on the pitch, in fact, the tactic has almost been to put every quality player on the field and hope it works.
      With Carsley a system has been implemented, roles have been taught and players appear to be thriving. Very early steps but the signs to a better future are there.

    Transformed should be saved for when they actually win a major tournament.

    • @ZekkoFootball
      @ZekkoFootball  หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I agree and see where you're coming from, looking at the play from the side at the Euros in comparison to what was on show in this game it's a pretty trans-formative change. Build up from the back naturally, 3 atb build up, box in midfield, natural one touch passing and a fluidity that lends itself naturally to the possession based build up that Carsley wants, on top of that the subbing of players keeps the style of play rather than change it.
      All of these are huge changes from what we have seen before, so while I agree it might be too early to get too excited, there are some big, big positives to take in the way the side has changed and transformed.
