Guys I have worked day and night on a 11-0-0 formation. In this formation 5 players sit on the remaining 6 player shoulders and they cover the goal completely, thus leaving no room for the ball to go in. This formation guarantees a nil nil in all games. Giving solid 38 points to the team and keeping it safe from relegation.
Good detailed in depth analysis. Easy to see and understand what looks like from off the field. But how players on the field know where they should be is amazing. They each have to know where their teammates are.
Because it's a task based structure d'uh... It's not because you don't have a ref that the tasks he is responsible for disappear. Same with players. It's not because a player isn't explicitly assigned to a position, that the basic tasks of it disappear.
St Pauli didn't hear much of them but their statistics in 2nd Bundesliga were insane. Hardly surprised Fabian switched to a more traditional back 4 because leaving too much space and overcommiting players against city arsenal liverpool is an instant 5 nil L for brighton 😂
He actually did try to play with a back 4 at St. Pauli (in a pre-season game) but asked the players what they feel more comfortable with. So the players decided to play a back 3/5. I guess the same happened at Brighton.
@@manzilraiThey had a good momentum going on even before the red card, the goal conceded was a personal mistake. If Arsenal won then they deserved it but Brighton getting a draw is deserved too
On FM I play a Libero+Inverted Attacking Wingbacks 3-1-6. Its crazy how Ive used this Tactic from 2011 and seeing it now work IRL. My 9 and 10 combine with the Libero just like you showed in the Box Midfield. The Key for me was Ball Winning 10s and Fast or Smart CBs.
as a st pauli fan for more than 15 years now this kinda hurts. not only fabian left, but our most important player of the last season, marcel hartel. the first two games this season left the impression that we probably going down again to div 2. i like to think with fabian and marcel we would have had an actual chance to secure div 1.. anyway the video was pretty accurate as far as i can tell, keep it on!
Yeah that is the hard part about being a fan of a smaller team. It would have been amazing to see how he would have faired against the teams in the bundesliga
Perhaps Fabian Hurzeler's most interesting attribute is his willingness to adapt and learn. He didn't completely overhaul Roberto DeZerbi's Brighton system with the St. Pauli one, instead he put his own tweaks and flair to Brighton's 3ATB last season. The inverted wingback is more common under Hurzeler but the buildup is between 3ATB and 4ATB, just like RDZ last season. Hurzeler uses a more advanced CM instead of a RDZ double DM pivot as well.
First, you need specific players. Second, you will need a long bench for the season. The amount of running some of the players do is huge. It's not a tactic for every club, but for a team ranked around 20th to 10th position, it is a legitimate way to compete for 50-60% of the points. I like aggressive football with high pressure and midfielders who can cover wide and long distances, but for a season with 50+ games, it's tough. 4-4-2 diamond is totally different tactic but at the same time you need CM who can cover on flangs and help RB and LB in Def game. + you will need exceptional RB and LB who can really play strong 1 on 1 and in the same time who can cover the whole flang in both phases of the game.
I'm not sure I know a lot about this, so I would appreciate it if you could provide me with more information. I realize I made a small mistake in my earlier message: I meant to say, "At the same time, you need two central midfielders who can cover the flanks." I was referring to the two midfielders on the sides of the diamond shape. Players like Seedorf, Lampard, and a young Gerrard were capable of this, and Henderson was an excellent option for this type of game. Please, I'd love to hear more from you! ;)
When i was really young, like 8 or 10 years old, i was playing house league soccer in Canada and my dad was our coach. We're Dutch and he loved total football. We set up as a 2-3-5. And basically every other team was 4-4-2. We won every game all year by at least 5 goals. Something like 25 games. I hardly remember the ball ever being in our own half all year. I think our goalie took like 10 shots against all year. We just smothered them in their own end, nobody had an answer to our strategy. Everyone hated us. Lol. The league commissioner tried all year to remove our speedy players trying to handicap us, still didnt work. Lol
8:50 is an interesting strategic concept that I didn't even think about being used in football. I am a Rocket League player and we have a similar concept (although not highly spoken about) that many pros made use of instinctively on their come-up during the COVID and preCOVID era called a "half-turn", which basically does the same thing. NOTE: Half-turn is distinctly different from a half-flip. A half-turn is entirely a positional feature that allows for more effective cutting, defending, and counters. While half-flip is a bailout mechanic for poor position or unexpected clears that is unsurprisingly used less the higher level you get.
You solved the basic problems posed in the Harry Enfield documentary Arsenal 1933 versus Liverpool 1991. Finally you came up with a way to beat the tactic of gluing the ball to a players foot.
@@DK_FALCON but during arsenal game I saw the fullbacks inverted to middle field but anyway this was great tactical analysis great and awesome video 👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟😎😎😎👌👌👌.
As an extra, they also took Ferdi. The best ball-carrying full-back you've ever seen. I am a Fenerbahçe fan and throughout the season I watched him make excellent plays with playmaker wings like Tadic. I think they will be very compatible with Mitoma. But if there is a dribbling winger in front of him, his usefulness decreases. Because they're trying to use the same half space corridor
Im a west ham fan and this is pretty much what slaven bilic did when we were chasing the game. "Who needs midfielders? just play 6 strikers across the defensive line and hoof it long to them!"
To play his 7 defenders 7 attackers formation the team needs to have so many work horses. It's not that easy. And it is very prone to counter attacks against better attacking teams.
Its great to see this merge of relationism, evolving the concept. The way out of the pression is just very similar with Fluminense did so well last year, in Libertadores.

The WM formation has been used since 1920's... it made a comeback over the last 10 years or so because teams started high pressing. The WM creates dilemmas because if you press the back you need numbers which then leaves the midfield open and a simple direct ball or a drive out of defense can begin an attack. Or if they choose not to press then you'll control the game against their low block.
