    I've enjoyed all of your videos. I'm 78 years old and been riding since I was 11. Had many brands except BMW and KTM.
    Latest was a '15 Harley Street Glide Special. I'm at the age now where the Harley was difficut to move around due to its weight. I needed a lighter bike, but didnt want another Sportster so i tested the 1100 Rebel and decided that's the bike i needed. Traded the Harley. Had the 1100 since 3-27 and love it. Compared to the Harley its like moving a bicycle around and is a good bike for my needs. Like you i need bigger bags and these fit the bill. Thanks again for the post

      You are an inspiration Donnie, i hope that i have your spirit when i reach your age, nothing makes me happier than riding! i couldn't agree more, i also wanted an easy bike, the easier it is the more enjoyment i will get out of it, i'm at 30,000 miles and couldn't be happier! the nice thing about this platform s that it won't break the bank to mod it and experiment on what works best, relative to other brands of course. It has a solid foundation and an unbeatable value imo, it affords us the luxury of morphing it into the machine we desire - from cafe racer to tourer, it's so versatile!! I still love mine and i am still smiling after 3 years! Thank you for your feedback Donnie!

    I've had similar Viking bags on my 1100 since I got it last August. Bought the bags for my Rebel 500, they were a pain to install, and because the 500 and 1100 are different, my bags have extra air vents in them. The right bag felt like it was too close to the stock exhaust so I fixed it by replacing the exhaust with a Coffman thunder. I am glad they are finally making mounting kits for the 1100, I had to make several trips to the hardware store to get everything I needed to mount mine.

    I just installed the same bags on my 1100 (leather wrapped) but one difference with my bike is I have the Honda rear cargo rack installed. This posed a bit of a problem using the fat brackets provided because the cargo rack has bolt stems that are over an inch thick. That along with the fat bracket makes the bag sit off the bike too far and I would need to use 100mm length bolts to hold them. I didn't feel comfortable with that length, so I ended up buying some flat steel brackets and drilled the holes and mounted them to the bag as support brackets instead which brought the bags in closer. I also found the passenger pegs too close for my wife to sit on the back, so I also added another bracket horizontally that mounts to the bike, then the bag attaches to the horizontal bracket instead allowing me to move the whole bag backwards a few inches. It all worked out and the bags look great and are still very solid on the bike. It would be nice if Viking took into consideration the passenger pegs in their design. I'm up here in Canada and the Passenger seat and pegs are standard on the bike. I also still have the factory exhaust installed.

    You're videos are absolutely awesome man!! You are doing us Rebellions a great service 🙏😁 you are taking almost everything in consideration and providing good methods for installation . Though I have a remark about the passenger foot pags.. Did you consider to install the bags few centimeters towards the back so that the pags will be abled to open? Seems there is still a space till the bags are approaches the signal lights. Or maybe there's not enough flexibility about that.
    Anyway, you are doing just great!! Thank so much Gus🙏

    Good evening, Viking is now offering quick detach saddle bags using the OEM brackets that Viking is offering with the bags. the good thing is that they are lockable from the inside so they can't be removed. Sadly they are only offering the leather hard bags. I hope they soon release Lamellar bags with the same system.

    I have a couple of questions.
    1. What do these bags cost and how much will the quick release brackets cost?
    2. Why did you mount the brackets at a slant? Wont they fit straight?
    3. When they do come out with the quick connect brackets, why dont they just mount them on the bags at the factory and save everyone the hassle?
    Thanka for the nice vid?

    • @ontherebel11
      @ontherebel11  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi There, good to hear from you brother!
      1. The cost is half the cost of the SW Motech, under $500!!!! Best value out there tbh.
      2. I had to mount the front one slanted so to keep it uniform i matched the rear, turned out great imo.
      3. great question! These bags are universal for many bikes, i guess it makes sense to them to keep them that way as it gives the end user the flexibility to account for exhausts and other accessories, it would be nice to have a model for each bike predrilled.....
      Thank you!!

  • @MiroVaclav
    @MiroVaclav 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Gus, well nice work👍👍👍. The best "self-made" attitude. But I think they should release these bags just when they finish mounting system. According to me they should prepare all holes and mounts without any "users drilling". But your attitude is perfect as usual😉. I would do it in the same way👍👍👍👍👍👍. And those bags looks perfect. Much better than honda canvas bags and even better then their touring plastic bags...... I would choose these Vikings ones👍 Havr a nice day😁

      @ontherebel11  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Miro, i hope you are doing well my friend!! Thank you for your continued support brother, it means alot to me! I agree that it would be nice to get them predrilled, but i understand why they don't do that as these bags are universal for many bikes and no 2 bikes are alike, maybe it will cost too much to manufacture and stock bags for every model bike out there and they won' be able to keep the price this low anymore....

    This week I had a collision wit ha deer which broke one of the latches on my factory saddlebags, and I am seriously considering replacing them with these big beauties (based on your recommendation)
    Am I correct that the Lamellar XL saddlebags are not actually made for the Rebel 1100? When I try to find them By Bike, they're not on the list.

      @ontherebel11  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Fox, so sorry to hear about the collision, but i am so glad that it wasn't worse!!
      Unfortunately they did not make a quick disconnect for these bags and they don't have these bags available for the 1100 anymore, but they are listed for the sportster, if you decide to order these bags, i would recommend that you get new bolts M8 80mm bolts that are class12.9, these are much stronger than the ones they provide, as i learnt the hard way while i was on a trip to Canada.
      They do make a different looking bag that is quick connect using the SLC system, i might try those out in the future.

    Love the channel and the bags look gorgeous. One question tho as someone who is looking into buying a Rebel fairly soon. In what order would you upgrade parts on this bike if you had to het them one at a time ? I often hear that the seat isnt comfortable and that the rear shock could use an upgrade.

    • @ontherebel11
      @ontherebel11  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you!!! Great question!! 3 most important mods to do are:
      1. Seat
      2. Risers
      3. Screen
      But everything will depend on how you intend on riding, if you ride below 50 mph and only ride 20 miles per ride, you don't need to change anything. It also depends on your height and weight.
      I am short at 5'7" so the risers were a must, without the risers i would have sold the bike as i have back issues and need to be straight up instead of leaned over.
      I use my bike for touring so most of y mods are related to prolonging the ride with comfort items.
      Let me know if you have any questions, we were in your shoes not too long ago and had a million questions.

    • @Jevta624
      @Jevta624 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ontherebel11 Appreciate the swift response. I'm 5'9" , 260lbs so on the heavier side you could say haha. That is why I'm worried about comfort on longer rides. Planned to be used mostly shorter rides with 1-2 longer trips per year. Had a two week exploration of Italy last year that would have been so much more enjoyable on a motorcycle rather than a car.

    • @ontherebel11
      @ontherebel11  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Jevta624 in your situation, the budget you set aside for the upgrades is the limiting factor, I would highly recommend better rear suspension that have a spring rated for your weight. Another factor to consider is your pain threshold, back in the day we rode the bike as is and never complained 🤣🤣
      Getting older forced me to have to invest in all these mods. In my case it was easily justifiable because the platform of the rebel 1100 DCT is perfect for me, so I was committed to making it my own. I don't want to buy a goldwing due to weight, size and price, and I don't want to ride tall bikes such as the Africa twin, so the DCT, cruise control and low seat height are unbeatable for me, hence my journey to make it work for my needs.
      It's all in the approach brother, I've seen quite a few people buy the rebel only to get disappointed then sell it to buy something more comfortable such as the goldwing and Africa Twin. Just sharing what I've seen in case it will help you in your journey.

    Is there a best practice to determine how to line the tops to be level? It looks like you used your luggage rack as the plane from which to level off although there is a rear pillion in your video. I'm so afraid of wrecking $300 bags.

    • @ontherebel11

      Hi there! Great question! My recommendation is to use the template and a level to get the bags level, the rear mustang seat isn't a good reference point as you can see in the installation portion. If you have a cargo carrier like mine, it will be helpful, mine just happened to align with it after I leveled the bags. 👍

    Those brackets look nothing like the ones they sent me 2 years ago. As I said before, the setup they provided stripped out the fender threads due to wobbling. They have sat in my garage for years now. And, I paid $499, they're only $349 now. I got robbed. They should give me the quick disconnect hardware free for my trouble.

Yes, maybe they may make it right but I am not calm enough to talk with them. I'll eat the $499 and go back to my soft bags. I have seen other nightmares from people who bought their crap. For instance, some got SAE bolts to bolt up to a Japanese bike. WTF is that. Everyone in the world knows every thread on a Rice burner is metric. I hope all of this gets read by many wanting to deal with them. Their bag hardware IS NOT customized to the Rebel. They are the only ones that I have bought bags from that required drilling/modification by the purchaser. Buy Givi or some other brand that bolts right up! To get their crap to even mount, I had to drill, measure, go to the hardware store to try to make it fit and it still failed. They have my information on record, have them contact ME!

Keep in mind that sometimes a line associate or a phone operator can make us feel that way, it doesn't mean that the company and the people behind it train them to be this way, it is not in their interest to mistreat customers, their objective is to maximize sales. With any saddlebags we decide to invest in, it will always be some sort of compromise in one way or another.
