- My first solo voyage on the narrowboat does not go as smoothly as I would like. I grit my teeth through the tunnel and panic at the aqueduct, not to mention the disaster that is getting water. But in the end I have accomplished my first ever solo day!

Just one little nitpicking comment. Jackknife isn't the equivalent of jack knife. I thought that someone named Jack had been knifed (stabbed).
Well done, Anna, a big day, but two, tiny things, if I may? One, is safety, especially on your own. Don't try and stop a twenty odd ton boat with just you. Pay out a little more centre line and get at least two turns round the bollard. If it's a ring, just one, but try and cross the line over itself. (And be careful of your fingers! Make sure you give yourself enough rope before the 'weight comes on'.)
Second, you've got a vlog full of people worried about Kath. A word of reassurance? Well done again, though. Unless you've driven a boat and done what you've done, folks won't understand just how tricky it is. Point and shoot it ain't.

Cannot stress enough what a beautiful place Chirk is, so never get bored of that scenery. My late Mum was born in Chirk during the war. Any who. Lovely video very well managed on your own. Helpful strangers have always been the best part of my travelling solo. I try to be that helpful stranger when I return to my hometown. A great big THANK YOU to all the helpful strangers who aid in our rescues!
We set for a cruise today and said wouldn't it be fabulous if we saw the girls. I said hello to nice lady at a water point and only when she said hello back I realised it was Anna. So we missed our chance to properly say hello to canal royalty, gutted! Seriously, lovely to see you and the boat looked great too, well done with the paint job.
Sometimes the kindness of a stranger is the only barrier to a panic attack attack. I think that was amazing. Without the support you usually reach for, life can feel dangerously unmoored. You are brave in ways that are not usually sung about but should be.

The idea of this whole narrow boat way of moving about is so appealing. It was first built as a way of moving vast amounts of material about the country and now has shifted into a whole new life style. I love the slow pace this life style brings.

Anna you were awesome doing your solo! Very brave young lady! I was reminded of a solo boating I did approximately 35 years ago. An sweetie I was scared to pieces the whole time. Plus it was just a regular little boat. I only had to cruise back n forth while my ex husband got the truck n trailer so we could get out of the river. After it was over I felt so proud.

Today is Saturday, May 30. My sons and I have been in lockdown since around March 3. I’m watching this video (now at 11:39) and I’m thinking that this is the perfect metaphor for what a lot of people are going through right now. We’re not used to steering the boat alone and handling every single thing by ourselves. I’m not used to teaching school to my twin boys with mild Autism. None of us are used to living in isolation from our family and friends. And so, we have to figure it out, just like you did. And we make a few little mistakes along the way. And we learn from them.
Instead of friendly strangers along the canal, my online friends have been invaluable to me.
I don’t think I realized how much I needed to hear this message right now. Thank you and stay safe. ❤️❤️❤️
Very true. As a former teacher I can only imagine how tricky it is for kids (yet alone kids with Autism) to adjust to a new routine and then the extra pressure on parents. I send lots of love. x

I always pick up a water bottle with my windlass to keep hydrated.
And the trick with stopping your boat singlehanded like that, is to wrap the centreline round the first bollard and let it slip slightly so it stops the boat for you. The bonus is this will also pull the boat in flush to the bank.

Thank you- I wish it had just been the tunnel, but I'm very proud to have done it.
My father was training in the airforce (RAAF) at the end of WW2, so I grew up with the saying that "any landing you can walk away from is a good one", so ... everyone able to walk away on their legs (whether two or four)? Yes - great. Craft reusable - BONUS!
More seriously, several people have already quite rightly commented on your courage in managing the aqueduct, and I wish to add my congratulations to theirs - well done :)
There is also a benefit for people who are possibly thinking of starting off with narrowboating in seeing that other people can also be nervous (rather than the fairly common confidence and "hey, see how easy this is") - and, despite that, and a glitch or two, things can still work out. I hope everyone who is nervous about trying narrowboating is able to watch and gain encouragement from your video :)

Look how far you got, I remember the video for the first time that you leave your mooring for good. And star in the cut. I cruise a long almost all the time, next time just drop a loop on the bollards it really helps to stop the boat. Great video like always, I hope see you together again soon. God bless you.

Great views though and you did a fabulous job with the camera to get that great footage! 👍😎 Mooring up is tricky, I fell in one time, panicking to get on our boat before it left with one foot on the boat, one on the bank and no hand hold as it departed was only going to end badly! 😁😊😮😲
Congratulations on your solo voyage. The Llangollen canal with its own current is a difficult canal to navigate especially for those who are used to the slack water in the majority of the system. The boat will go its own way in the tunnels and aquaducts which can be annoying at first but not worth fighting, I've found. I have only navigated solo on the Llangollen canal so to travel on the rest of the system would be a novelty for me but something I look forward to doing one day.
You did a great job! I don't know that I would have been able to do what you did without falling apart. The mom in me wanted very much to just give you a big hug!
At 4.07, tiller tucked under the arm while putting on gloves - mark of a real professional helmswoman. Very impressive.
So, a trick that I found when I was captaining my narrowboat during my holiday last year - if you tie off the center line, even if your bow is pointed out, you can reverse the boat, and the line will pull the bow into the shore. You'll need to tie off the back end at that point to keep the center line tight, but you'll be tight against the side. Nice video, by the way!

a job well done 👍 I’ve had the same problem when I made my very first outing on the canal, eight locks to do, got passed the fourth lock then whilst prepping the fifth lock the wind caught the front of my boat, where I have a 10 foot canopy, the front of the boat drifted so far that it ended up turning around and pointing in the opposite direction😩😂 I managed to correct my error and afterwards decided to move the centre line forward, being an old coal boat the centre line was only a third of the way up the boat and having the canopy added, anytime there was a big breeze it just pushed the front of the boat out, most annoying😩😂 Now I also wrap the canopy up so it doesn’t act like a sail
