Why are so many youtubers surprised about this? The moment I saw the trailer I was stoked....then I heard it was the guys who made Ark and immediately scratched it off my to do list. They haven't even finished optimizing their last product...Why the hell would anyone trust them with a new one?
@@Ruddy_Games They worked on ARK for years so they do have experience. They had a lot copy and pasted from ARK so that mean less work than working from scratch. They made ridiculous amount of money because they priced ARK + DLC much higher than it should have been. Ported to consoles for FULL PRICE too so they did have the budget to create a larger dev team (not just Instinct Games + some random first-timer recruits) Yeah. So to be fair I don't get where you're coming from.
I feel like at least one of the UI devs or programmers thought it was bullshit marketing for their product and that’s why the menu was just hidden and not explicitly removed. Kind of like Metal Gear Survive and their secret trashing

When I saw it was made my Ark creators I doubted the trailer and expected it to be Ark but with boats and that's exactly what it ended up. Didn't like ugly Ark, don't like this. I wouldn't want to support shady developers who sell DLC before their game even finishes EA.

Honestly, if this had been released as a DLC there probably wouldn't be nearly as much backlash. People would probably be pissed and complain that it wasn't in the season pass, but I guarantee that Wildcard would still have made mad money. People would still have bought it and been happy enough with it because it was more Ark content (despite the game's glaring bugs and issues it still has) and no one would've been saying that it was just copy and paste. But oh well, I'm just glad I didn't grab it day one. The one time I show restraint and actually listened. Still feeling burned with Fallout 76, but glad I didn't add Atlas to the wound.
Did people not play ARK? How can you be surprised Atlas is a reskin money grab from the company that took early access dollars for ARK, made a DLC with it, and tried to sell that DLC back to the same people that paid for it while waiting for the base game (all after Wildcard said they wouldn't put out paid DLC until the core game was out). There's a reason you find the ARK menu for a DLC called Ocean.
It's not fun with friends, Atlas is a game built to be played with friends or at least a clan or a guild that you get to know during your gameplay, The game is not for solo players. A lot of stuff has been fixed in less than a week, I'm happy to see the game improve so much in a short period of time. Unfortunately it is early access, But it's still enjoyable enough for me to play it right now even if it's missing content, Plus I got it for $25 instead of $60 so I'm a little glad it's early access.

Man, Sea of Thieves had a pretty rough launch. It was pretty obvious they were rushed to release early......but at least it wasn't Banjo Kazooie reskinned into a pirate game

Stop buying early access titles people. More often than not they are scams. You can block early access titles from even showing up for you on Steam. I've done this, and I highly recommend everyone else do so as well. We gamers need to save gaming from itself. If you don't know how to block early access titles from showing up do this: Click on the Steam drop down menu in the upper left of the app. Then click on Settings. Then within the window that pops up click on Account. In the upper right hand corner (below the minimize and close icons) you should see "View account Details" Click on that. This will take you to a page within Steam, click on Preferences and make sure that Show Early Access titles is unchecked.
@@extra1403 Which is fine, but you can wait until they release a full product, just like we used to have to do. Hell, I remember GETTING PAID to do testing for game studio during their Alphas. Not PAYING them to do the same thing. The real problem is that most people see Early Access as getting to simply play the game Early, and not for what Early Access was really intended to do. Most games never leave Early Access, with 7 Days to Die as a prime example of a game that should have seen a full release already, but has been in EA for 5 years now.
I bought planet explorers when they first offered early access and I was glad I did, then I did it with starforge and got burned and never bought early access again lol.

Some games can actually be worth buying not only before reviews but before everything is even announced. It's pretty rare but it happens. For example : I bought Smash Bros Ultimate months before it's released and it's absolutely great... But it's still pretty rare.
the problem is they add exclusive content for pre orders, which means if you want all content you have to pre order, they trap people in to early purchases. If I was a regulator I would do the following. Ban paid early access Ban pre orders Ban DLC thats exclusive to specific time frames, retailers etc.

Ive spent some time on ark (mostly single player), and no shit, the "turles" in ATLAS, is a "corbonemys" ( a kind of Dino from ARK, but sized down), the "horses" are "Equus"(another dino from ARK. Every single thing in the goddamn game that ive seen so far (from youtube videos, didnt buy it cuz fuck wildcard), is the exact same from ARK. The tools, the animals, most of the plants, the menus, the character creation, the textures, EVERYTHING. There shoulkd definitely be a class action lawsuit that shuts WILDCARD down and fast. Before they make another "game". Edit: The monkey is a "Mesopithecus"..... At least u could tame them to sit on your shoulder on ARK.
Last time I played Sea of thieves is when they released that skeleton DLC or update. At that point, the game was still shit. Biggest money I wasted on in years and while I haven't gone back since I still believe the game is shit. Sure you got content but where are the people? Last time I spent 2 hours looking for people and funny enough I met the same guy 3 times. In the end, we just chilled and talked. The only good thing about that piece of crap game is the water. Shit is fucking beautiful to look at it.
We are in a video game economy where companies seem to think it is okay to sell a 40-60 dollar sandbox with little to no narrative. And then start charging for game assets. This is an experiment in how much can we take away and still sell it at "Triple A" market value. You see this in corporate culture in general. How many people can we cut and still get a similar output? How many corners can we cut and still get a passable product? It kills innovation and focuses on the bottom line.

maybe like assassins creed black flag they should have added varying difficulty of mercenaries/fractions or other bots to challenge you in offline mode(probably their own various guilds with ranks) and for story why not go the sea of thieves route and add missions to go to islands,caves protected by grindable enemies.Just dumping us in an online with bare bones interactions seems to be the next big thing these days

If you pay attention to the graphics style, and the developer of the game, your expectations get managed real good. :P It was made by the same people as the developers of ARK, which basically means. It's gon b a shit game... Because the devs of ARK arent capable of balancing a game that isn't... well, ARK... Dark and Light? Its supposed to be a fantasy version of ARK, with Elves and Magic... You play that game you will quickly notice there's not gonna be any magic, because the game will keep you waaaaaaaaay too fucking busy farming food and drink because apparently, people can starve/thirst to death in a matter of minutes, so you have to constantly stuff your face with nutrition and hydration. Too much survival, not enough fantasy... So i knew exactly what was in store for Atlas... The same exact fucking problem... Too much survival, not enough fucking piracy. : / Even if they fix the server issues and bugs etc... Atlas is never going to be a good game, because the developers have a fucking learning disability that prevents them from adjusting their management according to their games genre. They only know how to do survival games, they have no idea how to do fantasy or piracy, none, whatsoever, it's absurdly hilarious, really. :P
If 2017 was the year of loot boxes, then the 2018 is the year of incomplete/rushed releases. So many games this year were rushed out to the market before they were ready for it, because the publishers don't see their gaming community as people anymore but instead as numbers. In my opinion the whole Early-Access concept should just go away, because it gives the publishers/developers too much leeway in the development cycle and sometimes they even abandon the game so it stays in the EA forever.
What they need to do is set ground rules for game going into early access like not allowing dlcs while the game is in early access, allow players to refund the game if development of it basically stops along with giving the makers a deadline for actual updates before removing the game from the steam platform. Like if steam wasn't a money grubbing whore at this point and actually enforced quality assurance and standards early access and games on steam would actually be pretty good but oh well

The fact that there are so many people still playing this game defending it, boggles my mind. I mean seriously, as I speak on steam charts, Atlas has a 50k player peak in the past 24 hours. HOW??!!?!!?! HOW?!!?!?!?!? They make the excuse "Oh it's Early Access" or "Oh no the game wasn't made by Wildcard, it's made by Grapeshot"... I mean how dumb are these people? Early Access? The game is a RE-SKIN of Ark... It's practically a DLC!! Grapeshot is not a NEW COMPANY. It's a sister development team made up of the Wildcard development team. Source code is the same, framework is the same, game mechanics are the same, graphics haven't improved since Ark's initial release, the bugs and exploits are either new or still there FROM Ark. The only thing that's different is the 3d models, a few vfx and sfx that they probably did in a few days. The UI... omg... I could've done better in Photoshop, it's horrendous. What are people thinking defending this?!?!!? This has gone too far.. Bless Online, Fallout 76 and now this. They're just preying on the demand for a new online MMO. The ONLY people playing this who KNOW it's bad, is because they want to troll people and make the game as cancerous as possible until people no longer want to play anymore. Literally all games now are made for online personalities. That's the marketing strategy. All the kids see their favorite TH-camrs/Twitch streamers playing it and they beg their parents to buy it for them so they can be like their online heroes. Games aren't made for gamers.
This is why I can't get excited for games today. False promises, unfinished games released and/or micro-transactions. For those reasons I find it hard to invest into gaming as much as I used to back in uni.

you guys obviously don't understand the point of early access, huh? It's not "rushing a release" it's putting out what they have so far and offering it to play and to help shape the way it turns out. It's in alpha stage and obviously has bugs.. this would be like buying Final Fantasy 7 remake right now.. I'm sure it's somewhat playable but it's still super early in the game. If they didn't put this in EA, it simply wouldn't get made or they'd have to do like Star Citizen and crowdfund and wait a year or so to finish. At least in EA people can give their input on what's good and what's bad and shape it rather than get stuck with whatever the devs decided like Fallout 76

Its just Ark DLC that they cut off and sold as standalone game. Thats all... not sure if AJ mentioned it, but when you pressed down on controller, Ark menu showed up with Ocean DLC ( Atlas)
Yeah I've been sufficiently burned by early access that I just skip it as a general rule. There's been the occasional exception like slay the spire but that's after I made sure it was in a state I could enjoy it.
fun fact: the things in the trailer are possible.. it just takes like a month of playing 24/7 to get to it (and then a bigger alliance just fucks you up and you have to gather ressources again.. that dont respawn(?))

But its there (maybe the giant monsters are not in the game.. didnt see any mention about that).

ARK should’ve been sued for it’s actions during early access. We should’ve set the legal precedent that companies that release games in early access can’t sell additional content for that early access game-they have to wait until full release
actually Valve's guidelines for entry into the Early Access program state not to use the platform to fund the development of the game, that it should already be fully funded, and that anything made for the game (and released) during the Early Access period is to be included in the initial purchase. So what Wildcard did with Scorched Earth went against the guidelines set forth by Valve and they can still be sued over it.

D2's grinding halt in light progression unless you get the newest dlc doesn't sit well with me even though I find various things fun.

Better give you 10 more kinetic weapons instead. Unlike a game like Warframe where you can grind for specific resources to make any weapon you want, with full loot drop tables, and then color then any way with any frame. Destiny 2 annoys the crap out of me like that
Anyone remembers the Pirates of the Caribbean game from 2003 (amazing game when it came out) ? Ubisoft could totally pull off a proper RPG pirate game like that, since they already have all of the mechanics with the latest Assassin's Creed games for it :)
That game was based on the Sea Dogs franchise. Sea Dogs 2 is the last to be released, but it still has decent mod support. If you enjoyed that PoC game, you will enjoy Sea Dogs 2.

The biggest problem with Wildcard as a developer is that they always make their games look freaking AMAZING in all the promotional stuff, yet the reality of actually playing them is unbelievably boring, repetitive, broken and buggy. The trailers for Ark looked like a completely different game to the one i played for 2 years. In the promo stuff they always show off these really awesome looking "Skyrim-esque" cutscenes and make it look like it's an epic adventure RPG, but sadly, the game isn't like that at all. It's actually a monotonous survival crafting game Most of your time is spent picking up shit to put in to dung beetles, or babysitting a dino you're trying to tame or raise, or gathering resources, or doing housework around the base to make sure everything stays alive and operational. It's fucking boring 99% of the time! And also, yes. The Chinese were a real problem on Ark too. If a Chinese tribe attacked a server they would flood the server with SOOOO MANY people that it was impossible to defend against. They would just keep coming, day and night! They were relentless. They could wear down even the biggest tribes because of sheer numbers constantly joining round the clock Servers are only supposed to have 70 people on it at a time, yet the Chinese would have so many players joining that there would be well over 100 people on. These players would mostly be the Chinese, as they would often attack when the server population was low (like 30/70) so only a few people from that server were on to defend their base. and because the Chinese flooded so many people in, no one could even log in to the server to help defend it either! Once the Chinese took over a server, it was basically gone. If you were stuck there, you'd never be able to escape it because they would lock down all the supply drops and obelisks (your only means of leaving a server) within hours. If you joined the server, you'd either spawn directly into a pile of spikes or an inescapable metal box (often piled high with the bodies of 'abandoned' characters) because they knew EXACTLY where people could spawn in and built traps in those exact locations. They became know as "prison servers", because your character could basically never escape them.

Lol dude, Ark was a nightmare on the Official PvP servers! Every day threats like this were a real possibility. People used to troll my old server by writing in Chinese in the global chat during busy times (or yelling CHINESE INVASION!!!!), which would send the private tribe/alliance chat into absolute meltdown because we thought our day had come lol.

I bought it and never touched it again, it's one of the most terrible games and PVP games I've ever played, even the PVE sucks, you have to be an online personality to be in huge tribe, they think it's fun sitting there 8 hours real time to tame a dino, only to then be killed , they never even bothered to balance the gameplay, even PVE, the map would be filled with huts and stuff and no way to do anything, official servers are unplayable in Ark.
At first Ark was fun, but after a while it became more like a commitment or a chore. You basically have to 'live' on the game and you become part of a community/family with your tribe, so it gets harder to leave the longer you play it lol

They made ridiculous amount of money because they priced ARK + DLC much higher than it should have been. Ported to consoles for FULL PRICE too so they did have the budget to create a larger dev team (not just Instinct Games + some random first-timer recruits)

When I saw it was made my Ark creators I doubted the trailer and expected it to be Ark but with boats and that's exactly what it ended up. Didn't like ugly Ark, don't like this. I wouldn't want to support shady developers who sell DLC before their game even finishes EA.
The reason it was not released as a DLC is likely due the Season Pass that nearly everyone has. They would have made no money on a DLC.

Honestly, if this had been released as a DLC there probably wouldn't be nearly as much backlash. People would still have bought it and been happy enough with it because it was more Ark content (despite the game's glaring bugs and issues it still has) and no one would've been saying that it was just copy and paste. Did people not play ARK? How can you be surprised Atlas is a reskin money grab from the company that took early access dollars for ARK, made a DLC with it, and tried to sell that DLC back to the same people that paid for it while waiting for the base game (all after Wildcard said they wouldn't put out paid DLC until the core game was out). There's a reason you find the ARK menu for a DLC called Ocean.

It's not fun with friends, Atlas is a game built to be played with friends or at least a clan or a guild that you get to know during your gameplay, The game is not for solo players.
A lot of stuff has been fixed in less than a week, I'm happy to see the game improve so much in a short period of time.
Unfortunately it is early access, But it's still enjoyable enough for me to play it right now even if it's missing content, Plus I got it for $25 instead of $60 so I'm a little glad it's early access.

Stop buying early access titles people. More often than not they are scams. You can block early access titles from even showing up for you on Steam. I've done this, and I highly recommend everyone else do so as well. We gamers need to save gaming from itself. If you don't know how to block early access titles from showing up do this:
Click on the Steam drop down menu in the upper left of the app.
Then click on Settings.
Then within the window that pops up click on Account.
In the upper right hand corner (below the minimize and close icons) you should see "View account Details" Click on that.
This will take you to a page within Steam, click on Preferences and make sure that Show Early Access titles is unchecked.

Most games never leave Early Access, with 7 Days to Die as a prime example of a game that should have seen a full release already, but has been in EA for 5 years now.
I bought planet explorers when they first offered early access and I was glad I did, then I did it with starforge and got burned and never bought early access again lol.

Some games can actually be worth buying not only before reviews but before everything is even announced. It's pretty rare but it happens.
For example : I bought Smash Bros Ultimate months before it's released and it's absolutely great...
But it's still pretty rare.
the problem is they add exclusive content for pre orders, which means if you want all content you have to pre order, they trap people in to early purchases.
If I was a regulator I would do the following.
Ban paid early access
Ban pre orders
Ban DLC thats exclusive to specific time frames, retailers etc.

Ive spent some time on ark (mostly single player), and no shit, the "turles" in ATLAS, is a "corbonemys" ( a kind of Dino from ARK, but sized down), the "horses" are "Equus"(another dino from ARK. Every single thing in the goddamn game that ive seen so far (from youtube videos, didnt buy it cuz fuck wildcard), is the exact same from ARK. The tools, the animals, most of the plants, the menus, the character creation, the textures, EVERYTHING. There shoulkd definitely be a class action lawsuit that shuts WILDCARD down and fast. Before they make another "game".
Edit: The monkey is a "Mesopithecus"..... At least u could tame them to sit on your shoulder on ARK.

Last time I played Sea of thieves is when they released that skeleton DLC or update. At that point, the game was still shit. Biggest money I wasted on in years and while I haven't gone back since I still believe the game is shit. Sure you got content but where are the people? Last time I spent 2 hours looking for people and funny enough I met the same guy 3 times. In the end, we just chilled and talked.

We are in a video game economy where companies seem to think it is okay to sell a 40-60 dollar sandbox with little to no narrative. And then start charging for game assets. This is an experiment in how much can we take away and still sell it at "Triple A" market value. You see this in corporate culture in general. How many people can we cut and still get a similar output? How many corners can we cut and still get a passable product? It kills innovation and focuses on the bottom line.

It's gon b a shit game... Because the devs of ARK arent capable of balancing a game that isn't... well, ARK... Dark and Light? Its supposed to be a fantasy version of ARK, with Elves and Magic... You play that game you will quickly notice there's not gonna be any magic, because the game will keep you waaaaaaaaay too fucking busy farming food and drink because apparently, people can starve/thirst to death in a matter of minutes, so you have to constantly stuff your face with nutrition and hydration.
Too much survival, not enough fantasy... So i knew exactly what was in store for Atlas... The same exact fucking problem... Too much survival, not enough fucking piracy. : /
Even if they fix the server issues and bugs etc... Atlas is never going to be a good game, because the developers have a fucking learning disability that prevents them from adjusting their management according to their games genre. In my opinion the whole Early-Access concept should just go away, because it gives the publishers/developers too much leeway in the development cycle and sometimes they even abandon the game so it stays in the EA forever.

What they need to do is set ground rules for game going into early access like not allowing dlcs while the game is in early access, allow players to refund the game if development of it basically stops along with giving the makers a deadline for actual updates before removing the game from the steam platform. Like if steam wasn't a money grubbing whore at this point and actually enforced quality assurance and standards early access and games on steam would actually be pretty good but oh well

Grapeshot is not a NEW COMPANY. It's a sister development team made up of the Wildcard development team.
Source code is the same, framework is the same, game mechanics are the same, graphics haven't improved since Ark's initial release, the bugs and exploits are either new or still there FROM Ark.
The only thing that's different is the 3d models, a few vfx and sfx that they probably did in a few days. The UI... omg... I could've done better in Photoshop, it's horrendous.

Last week I played "GRIS"- gotta be the most beautiful artistic game I've ever seen; unique experience.

you guys obviously don't understand the point of early access, huh? It's not "rushing a release" it's putting out what they have so far and offering it to play and to help shape the way it turns out. It's in alpha stage and obviously has bugs.. this would be like buying Final Fantasy 7 remake right now.. I'm sure it's somewhat playable but it's still super early in the game. If they didn't put this in EA, it simply wouldn't get made or they'd have to do like Star Citizen and crowdfund and wait a year or so to finish. At least in EA people can give their input on what's good and what's bad and shape it rather than get stuck with whatever the devs decided like Fallout 76

ARK should’ve been sued for it’s actions during early access. We should’ve set the legal precedent that companies that release games in early access can’t sell additional content for that early access game-they have to wait until full release

actually Valve's guidelines for entry into the Early Access program state not to use the platform to fund the development of the game, that it should already be fully funded, and that anything made for the game (and released) during the Early Access period is to be included in the initial purchase. So what Wildcard did with Scorched Earth went against the guidelines set forth by Valve and they can still be sued over it.

D2's grinding halt in light progression unless you get the newest dlc doesn't sit well with me even though I find various things fun.

Better give you 10 more kinetic weapons instead. Unlike a game like Warframe where you can grind for specific resources to make any weapon you want, with full loot drop tables, and then color then any way with any frame. Destiny 2 annoys the crap out of me like that

That game was based on the Sea Dogs franchise. Sea Dogs 2 is the last to be released, but it still has decent mod support. If you enjoyed that PoC game, you will enjoy Sea Dogs 2.

The biggest problem with Wildcard as a developer is that they always make their games look freaking AMAZING in all the promotional stuff, yet the reality of actually playing them is unbelievably boring, repetitive, broken and buggy.
The trailers for Ark looked like a completely different game to the one i played for 2 years. In the promo stuff they always show off these really awesome looking "Skyrim-esque" cutscenes and make it look like it's an epic adventure RPG, but sadly, the game isn't like that at all.
It's actually a monotonous survival crafting game
Most of your time is spent picking up shit to put in to dung beetles, or babysitting a dino you're trying to tame or raise, or gathering resources, or doing housework around the base to make sure everything stays alive and operational.
It's fucking boring 99% of the time!
And also, yes. The Chinese were a real problem on Ark too. If a Chinese tribe attacked a server they would flood the server with SOOOO MANY people that it was impossible to defend against. They would just keep coming, day and night! They were relentless. They could wear down even the biggest tribes because of sheer numbers constantly joining round the clock
Servers are only supposed to have 70 people on it at a time, yet the Chinese would have so many players joining that there would be well over 100 people on. These players would mostly be the Chinese, as they would often attack when the server population was low (like 30/70) so only a few people from that server were on to defend their base. and because the Chinese flooded so many people in, no one could even log in to the server to help defend it either!
Once the Chinese took over a server, it was basically gone.
If you were stuck there, you'd never be able to escape it because they would lock down all the supply drops and obelisks (your only means of leaving a server) within hours.
If you joined the server, you'd either spawn directly into a pile of spikes or an inescapable metal box (often piled high with the bodies of 'abandoned' characters) because they knew EXACTLY where people could spawn in and built traps in those exact locations.
They became know as "prison servers", because your character could basically never escape them.

People used to troll my old server by writing in Chinese in the global chat during busy times (or yelling CHINESE INVASION!!!!), which would send the private tribe/alliance chat into absolute meltdown because we thought our day had come lol.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, and those adjectives adequately describe Ark, it's just that I think there's something wrong with that logic.
I bought it and never touched it again, it's one of the most terrible games and PVP games I've ever played, even the PVE sucks, you have to be an online personality to be in huge tribe, they think it's fun sitting there 8 hours real time to tame a dino, only to then be killed , they never even bothered to balance the gameplay, even PVE, the map would be filled with huts and stuff and no way to do anything, official servers are unplayable in Ark.
At first Ark was fun, but after a while it became more like a commitment or a chore. You basically have to 'live' on the game and you become part of a community/family with your tribe, so it gets harder to leave the longer you play it lol
