NFL and NFLPA need to get rid of the tampering issues within the negotiating window. When you are a free agent, you should be totally free.
They become free agents on the new league year. The tampering period was added because tampering was so blatant and widespread and obvious previously, the NFL is doing these teams a favor by giving them those days before FA opens

Because there is a 72 hour window to negotiate DUH!!! Deals get made in that window but, can't become official until the start of free agency. Happens all the time.

@@drew388 yep, Cousins listed his home in MN for sale in mid February just before the NFL combine started up. (It was officially sold 3 weeks ago) but did it through an out of state broker that was based in Michigan instead of local real estate companies. Probably as to not tip off the local media. So he was already planning to sneak out the back door in MN in February. And i think that the actual tampering started at the combine when Cousins agent Mike McCartney was spotted with several members of Atlantas front office. And Rich McKay was probably one of those members.

It is plausible, Atlanta had a pressing need for defensive help and Dallas Turner was right there for the taking. But to pass on Turner and go QB??? That tells me that Atlanta knew they were in serious trouble with the league and they had to protect themselves at the QB position by drafting Penix this year. As far as Cousins being butthurt over the selection, he really has no one else to blame but himself for the Falcons drafting Penix.
What’s crazy about the Eagles situation is it didn’t even come from either party. It was James Franklin. He should’ve been fired from Penn State anyway.

Right about the time when NFL combine started up. Interestingly Cousins listed his house in MN for sale in mid February. He clearly had eyes on Atlanta then.

That third round pick that was taken from the Chiefs in 2016 changed the league forever. It's the reason that the Chiefs couldn't trade up for Paxton Lynch like they wanted, instead they traded back and drafted Chris Jones and found another solution at QB in the 2017 draft.

I was very surprised he chose to sign to the Eagles but Howie was still able to grab a extra 3rd 4th and 5th round pick. That would be up to the commissioner, but if they found that Cousins and his agent Mike McCartney initiated contact with the Falcons before free agency or even before the legal tampering period, then yes a case can be made where the commissioner can void the contract completely. For the record, Arthur Blank was not happy about the deal that Fontenot gave Cousins.

PSU head coach mentioned that Barkley said the Eagles talked to him during the tampering period. Barkley denied that Philly did and that they only talked to his agent and the coach misspoke

I think the falcons getting a 1st round pick stripped for tampering sounds fair because it was so egregious and so open that even pre draft everyone knew they were guilty of it. Eagles getting a 3rd or even 4th stripped also sounds fair as tampering probably did occur but the only way we'd even know about it is because they openly admitted to it rather than lie.
There could be some stiff fines coming their way too.

I along with millions of people have watched football/nfl since i was a little kid - it is and has been #1 for MANYYY yrs, at least in my book. However, it has changed so drastically in the last 10yrs, maybe 15yrs. that IF the nfl shut down tomorrow, I Sincerely would not have a problem with it. Because of goodell I do NOT trust ANYTHING the nfl says.
Being against the nfl management does NOT mean I am pro 100% for the players. I stand 50/50 for both players/owners. But, I am simply SICK of what the woke nfl has become, along with other issues created by both the players and owners! IF they should fail or experience financial hardships in the future that severely hinders their yearly growth, NO tears from me!
