Super
Thanks for the love given to the Filmation Cartoon. It really did give the whole He-Man franchise a heart & soul.
This is so cool I remember all of these toys I turn 41 this summer and He man was everything to me thank you brother for staying tru in heart thank you
Trap Jaw...one of the greatest action figures of all time! Work of art!
He is EASILY one of the best figures when it comes to value for money, in just about every MOTU toy line he appears in.
On the surface, the show and toyline look cheesy and barbaric, but I love the simplicity of a child's show using fantasy stories to teach real life lessons. I was rewatching recently and was blown off my chair with the veiled advice about reporting sexual abuse at the end of one show. I mean, that would literally get banned nowadays, but that message probably helped a lot of kids experiencing that.
He-Man was my favourite cartoon. It aired in Holland in '83 and it was an important part of my growing up. We all wanted to be the strong, muscular and nobel good guy.
I loved my He-man in the early eighty's. Was my first real collection. And the cartoon was really good too. Those were the best days of my life. Magical. Wish I could go back. And do it all again. The world has changed so much since then. And not for the better either. I kinda feel sorry for kids today. They really don't have anything. Glad to be an eighty's kid!
This is true. And the kids before the 1980s didn't have much either. The 1980s was probably the sweetest time to be a kid in all of human history...
@@coloneljackmustard as a historian and lover of he man...I would have to agree..I've studied it all and the 80's are/were the best...I was born in the early 80's...and remember mostly the mid to late 80's...
HUGO 562 Agreed & it was so magical. 90’s were good as well but nothing will ever compare to the 80’s.
Brings back so many memories. Wish I still had all my He Man toys.
i want to go back to the 80's
I think it's safe to say everyone who grew up in the 80s want to. Amazing times.
We were born in the mid 70s and we had the best childhood in the 80s! We are the best generation!
you're absolutely right about the cartoon. i showed it to my 8 year old son and to my great surprise, he loved it despite its obvious age.
I ABSOLUTELY love the book the Peaceful Warrior! I have read that book numerous times and read it when I need to get myself back on track. I try to live that life style of the Peaceful Warrior. I really appreciate this history of the MOTU figures, great video!
To this day I can still feel the thrill and excitement of finally seeing Trap-Jaw on the peg in my local store... what a day that was! Still have him and most of the 82, 83 and 84 line. Outstanding video again, I truly love your work as much as I loved these toys as a boy growing up in the 80’s
I was reflecting recently on why He-Man was and is still an important part of my life. Your section at the end about the cartoon and the moral compass it provided aligned with my own feelings about it. Wisdom before weapons. It still resonates with me. Thanks for this video and retrospective and all you do on this channel.
Wisdom before weapons, great way of phrasing it! :D
I am so proud that my 6and 3 year olds both enjoy watching the old cartoon with me, running around yelling I HAVE THE POWER!!! every episode was a moral that I've tried to carry in my heart my whole life and to see my kids listening and not just watching them makes my heart swell! I may love the villains of 80s cartoons and movies, but it was heroes like He man and optimus prime that made me the honest and decent man i am today for my children and the future's sake! FOR THE POWER AND HONOUR OF GREYSKULL!!
My collection restarted 3 years ago, when my Mom found a Castle Greyskull to give me for Christmas......again. :D
I am now only missing two vehicles, two erm.....figures (Twistoid and his twin), the comet.....things, and all but the outer two towers of Eternia.
A lot of Christmas mornings are fading with time. But I remember the morning I opened Castle Greyskull in 1983. I will never forget it. I had it until 1995, when sadly I had to leave it to move to Oklahoma. Mom found it here in town in 2016, and I got it for Christmas one more time. And my collection began again with it.
i remember buying He-man action figures for 5.99 at K-Mart
you will be able again for $15, I cant wait
The comic books were half the anticipation too. Me and my little brother would devour them then trade with each other.
Wow. That was cheap i remember watching the movie 🎥 in theaters with my brother. Good times miss the 80s
I didn't grow up in the 80s, but I respect this series
Me too!
I missed my toys... Brings back a lot of good memories
Look around on ebay or Amazon to get them back.
I wish I saved them. I had a lot of these figures
How did I get bored of this beautiful series as a kid??? I only wish I could have seen it more!
Love these toys...still have all mine with all the Weapons and accessories with both Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain. For some reason I never opened my Weapons pack...which I still have sealed to this day. Good times and great memories.
So many memories flood back seeing these figures my friend. Getting castle grayskull one Xmas is still one of my very best.. thank you for a great video 🙏🏻
I cried remembering the good old memories. Thank you.
This line of He-man figures and vehicles looked great! They provided me several hours of fun playtime. Ram Man and Battle Cat were my favorites of that period. Thanks for another wonderful video!
Thanks Droz!
Was Christmas 1982 under de Christmas tree massive gift box went i opened my eyes sparkling and my heart exploded! The image of the mysterious castle stunning me ! And all barbarians action figures ! Man i don't have any idea of He man until that day ! The rest was history! The next year my old man buys me Ramman ,Many-faces and others....man i miss thus days!
Awesome memories! Thanks for sharing. :D
Masters of the Universe is a great franchise, I love the action figures and the TV shows, it was all so good, then She-Ra came along and that too was awesome. Thumbs up for the video.
Great points about the cartoon, specifically regarding it's moral compass and depiction of heroes as kind, compassionate, forgiving, courageous, trustworthy, etc. It truly was a great show to grow up on and I see now how much it influenced my thinking. Thanks for your excellent, humorous toy history videos!
Thanks for making these quality history videos. For 18 minutes I was was 4 years old again and playing with the greatest toys in the universe!
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed. :D
Trap-Jaw was always one of my favorite MOTU fugues as a kid.
Another awesomely edited video, Michael. Thank you.
Looking forward to the 1984 edition!!
Great video!!! Extremely polished presentation!!! I saw the original TV run of the classic series and even though I never owned any of the toys (I was a Star Wars guy), I watched every episode and even the girly She-Ra series. I remember seeing the toys in a Christmas catalog prior to the cartoon being released and being fascinated by the split Power Sword forming the nexus of the struggle between He-Man and Skeletor.
Thanks! Loved the two halves of the power sword too.
the 80`s-the best time to grow up in.
Thanks for this- always a joy to see these reviews of yours. I remember longing for this stuff when I was a kid. So exotic, colourful and interesting. The second wave of toys brought forth so many things that would become the convention of future MOTU toys. Seeing these on the toy shelves at Toys R Us felt like looking at Ferraris through a window 😁
Thanks Eric! Glad I got a chance to do another history video, these are lots of fun. So glad they decided to branch out with the second wave with new gimmicks instead of using the same bodies with different heads again.
Till this very day I enjoy Masters Of The Universe and it makes me happy birthday that there are fans like you that put in the time of creating content with this beautiful franchise. Thank you so much for all you did for making this video a great and memorable one. *YOU HAVE THE POWER*
So much of by childhood in here! As a kid growing up in 1980s India, I didn't know these were big elsewhere too. I just wish I had saved these 😭
I may not have the biggest MOTU toy collection like you, but I got a lot of good memories from the cartoon. First of all, you are right about one thing, Lou Scheimer was great man, giving us such awesome cartons like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. He is the true face of Children's TV unlike the ones we see from Litton Entertainment. And I don't care what some people say about the cartoon itself, through the life lessons at the end of every episode, we learn to be better people down the long haul, far more better than those "Edutainment" shows we see today. Well done on the video, especially reminding me how awesome and well-informed the cartoon was and always will be. Keep up the good work. ;)
Thanks! I like that term, "Edutainment." Sums up Filmation's style of shows perfectly.
@@MichaelMercy Quite true. I say the same for the other cartoons I grew up watching in the 80s and 90s like G.I. Joe, Centurions, She-Ra, Filmation's Ghostbusters, Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and, yes, even Sailor Moon. Their PSA/life lesson/science fact segments on their shows way better than those of Litton Entertainment and that's a fact.
This video was absolutely fantastic. Thank you very, very much.
Amazing video as always brother! Even though I didn't collect these figures as a child, I enjoyed the cartoon very much. Even back then I knew they were full of heart, and valuable moral lessons. He-Man might have had a bigger affect on me than I realize. Many of the lessons that were taught I still live by today. Thanks to other cartoons I learned not to take a bath with a toaster and not to leave a rake lying in the yard, but He-Man taught me to have self-worth and to be kind to others. Put others before yourself, and to do it unselfishly. Life lessons that I still practice every day.
Thank you for the great work you do Michael. You definitely are a beacon of humanity. Keep up the amazing things you are doing, and keep being that shining light in an otherwise dark world. I hope your weekend is amazing. Nerdmasté brother.
Thanks Scott! Much appreciated. You as well, good brother. Shine on! :D
Another awesome job on yet another awesome video about He-Man and the MOTU! The greatest toy/franchise in the universe! I loved 1983 because it gave me my 2nd favorite character and figure in MOTU and this wizard of weapons is named Trap Jaw, he was so great. My mind was blown away when I got him plus he was so cool to be evil and armed for combat. Lol!
I was a collector of the original line back in 1982. I have just recently just started buying vintage figures & Classics again.
I really was crazy for these action figures back then collected almost all of them.
Wow mate, I thoroughly impressed and a little jealous. I'm a collector myself, but nothing like you. Thank you for this video and history of the figures. I don't ever hit the comment section, but I had to give you pro props. Once again, thank you, Alexander from Manchester
A stressful week of work. No worries watch a new Michael Mercy video reminding me of my childhood, problem solved.
Loved Trap Jaw and Tri Klops. Faker was hard to find here in NZ. So was Panthor a friend down the road had one which I was fascinated with. I didn't see Evil Lynn until later in the run so it always felt like some were released later over here.
Great video! Makes a person realize how lucky they were--me and my brother--to grow up during what now seems like a golden age of toys. My brother was into Star Wars, He-Man, and Transformers. TV shows were sometimes seen as mere commercials but they were really much more than this. The idea of re-paints and re-use never bothered me either. That was one of the ways that carmaker AMC used to survive back in the 70s. The He-Man cartoon certainly was great and seeing that on TV during the same period as Transformers was awesome to say the least.
Very creative... Im not even a collector yet found self here and watched all fascinated.. My cousin had all these.. I wasn't so much into he man, I loved the cartoons but was never fussed to own my own he man.
This is one of the best videos of he man ever made to honor the legacy of he man y los amos del universo !!
Historic...... and Hype 🔥🔥🔥 Thanks (again) Mike for keeping our past ALIVE 🍻💯
1983 was definitely my favourite time for MoTU figures. I got my all time favourite 'Man-E-Faces' and also the 'Attak Trak'. Wish Mattel had made a Attak Trak like the cartoon that could carry multiple figures.
Michael,
Another great review Brother! Got a few more history videos to watch and I will be caught up!👍😁
Bill
I'm so glad I was able to watch this. I'm sorry I missed the other videos @Michael Mercy but you have a new subscriber. I loved how you connected all the different parts of the toyline with the animated series, your voice was calm, friendly and a pleasure to listen to. He-Man (and She-Ra) had such a positive influence on me - to the point that I've even gone on to animate the MOTUC toyline - and it was a true pleasure watching your videos - please make more :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it so much. :D
@@MichaelMercy Have a look at my stop-mo homage to our favorite toyline and cartoon - would love feedback from a fellow fan and creative :)
Such a nostalgia hit seeing Evil-Lyn laughing. I watch so much of He-Man and the New Adventures of Flash Gordon and never noticed that the animation was the same as Ming's daughter Aura laughing. Even the running motion for Flash and He-Man looks the same even though the character models are different. Not to mention Ming and Skeletor sharing a voice actor. But as a kid, I was lost in the magic.
17:20 I totally agree with you. It is still something you can show to the kids of today - maybe for a better world . . . :-) Greetings from the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Loved Ram Man and Trapjaw 👍man this brings back so many memories !!!
Glad to hear it. :D
I remember that record that came with the Talon Fighter. My cousin and I used to scratch with it on my record player.
So are "Robuts" better than Robots? I took those messages to heart as a kid. That's what cartoons lack today.
Robit
Thank you so much for this ! What I really enjoy about your videos, is how sincere and true the love you're showing to your toy is ! I also agree with you about the life lessons given to kids through they favourites heroes : it's something either non existant nowadays or poorely done.
Thanks! :D
That was a fun video that was way more heartfelt at the end than I was expecting. I took large pistol from another Mega Construx figure today and posed He-man with it along with his axe, then called him Gun-darr. All he needs to complete the illusion is a scale version of Cupcake Fury.
Thanks!
Seeing them all displayed like that, the designs really are timeless. Had about half a dozen or so figures back in the day, lots of fun but I always kept losing the accessories.
"Severe case of jaundice" LMAO
Thank you for this outstanding video. I was very lucky to grow up through Star Wars, He-Man and Transformers and I was fortunate enough to own large collections of all three. This video brings back so many memories and was also thought-provoking and funny. Thanks again!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Nerdmasté! 🙏
Thank you for featuring this.... Love it....❤❤❤
Epic video, Michael! I felt the same way about He-Man growing up. Cannot wait to see Masters of The Universe toys at major retailers again next year!!!
The first two waves were the best, and the original four mini-comics was the best storyline too.
I want them to make a movie if HE MAN just like the way we remeber how they looked when we grew up playing with them
Scareglow was the rarest figure to find back in the day☺
No i actually got him back then and he was my last figure at age of 14
With a glowing weapon
Or perhaps i was 12 but i remembered playing a last time at age of 15. It feeled little odd until i played again at age of 44. I did Arena fights with heroics, skeletors, horde and snake men dungeon and dragons style by rolling dice for their attacks and defense and Spezial abilities
I want to go back to the 80's to re-live my childhood and not worry about Covid, paying bills, or any other adult issues. I wish to go back to being a kid spending hours in my room playing with my Masters of the Universe Toys. I had Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain. I did not have Eternia.
If only time travel was possible. I would go back & buy everything from the 80’s...
I like how man-e's gun was identical to the tail gun for lion force voltron.
Out of all the 80s toys, heman was hands down the best
Great video as always Micheal. Your one of the best TH-cam channels about 70's 80's and 90's toys etc...
This was the best toy video I ever saw man
I had a 3 pack with Trap Jaw,Triclops and Beastman. I also came across that same DVD set as a grown man at flee market and quickly snatched it up.
Love the colors of these figures.
That was totally awesome, man!! So many memories w/ HE-MAN & The Masters of the Universe! Epic review, sir!!! Fantastic!!!
My brother and I had all of these, vehicles and playsets! We still have most of them. Thank you for bringing such good vibes and so many good feels. :) We also had most of the She-Ra figures and playsets too. Keep up the great work Michael! Nerdmaste.
Thanks! Nerdmasté! 🙏
Your sound editing is impecable!
New subscribed here from Puerto Rico! Great job Michael! Wisdom indeed! Growing up with this cartoon was memorable for me and their lessons at the end impact my brain as a kid and developed my empathy too!
Thanks Jorge! 🙏
Great video filled with history and really great info! The editing was fantastic!
Thank you so much for the childhood memories! Life was so much easier back then! Great videos!
Thanks Jared!
I loved Masters of Universum
1984 my Favorite toy in Germany
Great channel
TOP VIDEO!
Best regards👋
Thanks Pascal!
Great video and editing!
Thank you! :D
Production value on this video is *amazing!* Hey, to any MOTU aficionados: I have this memory of getting my first MOTU figs, He-Man and Teela, in a brown cardboard box, with ink drawn images of the characters. No color, no clear plastic. ....But I can't find any evidence on line that this was a real thing??? ...Ring a bell for anyone?
Can't wait for Mattels MOTU Origins line.🔥
Faker is still my all time favourite MOTU figure. It was such a preposterous gimmick, but it just worked. I just preordered the 12” Mondo Faker from bbts. As for the MOTU collection, I was with it right up until the end. I loved that last non movie series w Scareglow, Ninjor, Mosquitor etc. Of all the toy series I collected as a youth, I think it would’ve been the only one I was on board with from start to finish.
You should pre-order it directly from MONDO, that way you will get the extra damaged robot head, its really worth it
Great job on this video! Well done! I was a huge fan of Masters of the Universe back then starting in 1982. The comics that came with the characters were great as well as the toys. I thought the cartoon was a little on the childish side compared to the original image of the toys and included comics but still well done. The music was memorable and good too. They even used some very good 24fps animation which is rare in cartoons (and re-used many of those scenes again and again). I didn't understand that back then but simply noticed it looked more fluid and real. The cartoon seemed to bring the franchise to the masses and had some good moral lessons too. I remember seeing the Sorceress toy at a KB toy store near the end of the run but by then had quit buying the toys. Seems some of the most creative toys were at the end.
Excelente video Michael !! me trajo muchos recuerdos y emociones, gracias
Excellent video Michael !! brought me many memories and emotions, thanks
I wish I had the entire series to watch.
Oh, the good times!!!!
Congrats on that many views for the 82 edition Michael! Happy for you :) I don't remember much about the cartoon series (was too young), but we definitely watched it on Sky back in the day. I'd make my own stories, as I do remember the figures and loved them. More often than not, I preferred the look of the baddies. Until I saw your video, I had no idea Man-E-Faces was a good guy, always thought he was a villain :P I had the figure and loved it, liking masks and changeable faces seem to be a recurring theme in my toys :) Nice to see your character again, by the way! What did you call him again, Mr. Dad, or the Dad? Hoping he'll pop up more again in the future :) Great choice, Chris! And Michael, I can see where the extra time needed for this video went, awesome job :D I look forward to when we get the Horde villains, those are by far my favorite Masters figures!
Awesome video love it. That attak trak scene was priceless
"Man-E-Weapons," which I got for birthday in 1983 from a classmate, was my first MOTU figure, and the reason I am frequently low on funds to ths day. 🤣
Addendum: Anyone else notice that Linda Gary played Teela on the Point Dread record, too?
Amazing and fulfilling video. I love the end theme.
This was absolutely brilliant... will watch again and again!!!!
I got almost all of that collection for Xmas 83. Didn't get the tracked vehicle but I had 4 new figures to play with.
I remember faker had the sticker on his chest if you took his skeletor armor off, that thing wouldnt stay on him, anyway as a kid from the beloved 80's ... AWSOME VIDEO!
Wow, 83 was ghe best. Men-faces, trap jaw & tri klops were my favourites. Even Ram man brings back great memories, even though his damn legs didn't move!
Great production value! Keep up the great work!
Two figures uncomfortably! Best line in the video!
So crazy that i was literally just sitting here thinking it'd be cool if Michael Mercy did some videos on complete He-man toy lines and this video was in my suggested queue while watching Patriot Prime!
Call me Mike. 😉 👍
@@MichaelMercy haha yes will do, Mike!
My dad always put on he man for me so I got into it and love it now
These History toy episodes are amazing. I'd love to see you complete Motu and Transformers.
Thanks! Working on it. :D
@@MichaelMercySweet can't wait 🤘🤘
I absolutely LOVED the Filmation show! Those life lessons were worked into the show pretty well, unlike the later "Knowing is Half the Battle" PSAs on GI Joe. The downside to the Filmation show became apparent later on, as footage kept getting reused, but I didn't know how expensive it was to animate cartoons only in the United States. I'm curious to know whether the Netflix show will have the life lessons on at the end, as it's supposed to be a continuation of the original series.
