Hope to see some of you on tour!! Check the description for info! :)
Heart breaking your tour doesn't breach further south! Still cant wait to read my copy when it comes! Xx
London not south enough lol???
I've got a question about the tour. I really want to see you in Newcastle waterstones but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to go as I'm only 14. Please reply so if I can go I can book my ticket asap! 😊 (Edit: I'm also a boy so......)
@@hannahwitton not for us poor lot trapped in the back waters of Cornwall haha
Are stomas permanent i forgot
I feel irrationally happy this book is published the same week I'm on my period
YESSSS
same for me but since i am in canada, i have to order online, so i'll probably receive it after my period
Same! Day 3.
Same, from France.... Internet will do for me too ;) (Hannah, any translation in French... ? Do you have an agent ?)
I hate being on my period bc I get really bad pains and PMS and that whole week I'm just like high on pain killers, but one of my biggest dreams/goals in life is to have kids so I'm also grateful for my period bc it lets me know that one day when I'm older I'll be able to have kids
Oh wow can't wait for the new roundtable!!!!! Loved the disability one ❤❤
my mum got her period in the 70's as a 15 y.o, and even though she had two older sisters (and obviously surrounded by girls who had theirs) no one had told her about it. she was in a panic for days - stuffing toilet paper in her knickers - and thought she was dying until she finally confided in one of her sisters. So she was VERY motivated to make sure I knew from a young age - and made damn sure my brother got a good education as well. I'm aussie and actually got a decent amount of info on periods etc from family planning through primary school. High school sex ed was pretty shit because it was just done by the P.E teacher (male and horrible).
Hannah!! I finally had time to read the book after I finished all my exams and I was so surprised you actually used my story! I am so so proud and humbled to be in the book, and sincerely hope my story can help someone. Thank you so much!!
Moon cup is not contraception though, I think you might have accidentally 'misread' that. To the person writing that question, please don't use a menstrual cup for contraception, it won't work 😅
oops I can't remember what this is referring to but yes menstrual cups are not contraception!!
Hannah Witton at around 03:02
Coz your dumb
I was confused as well!! is there any kind of eco friendly contraception? Is that what they meant?
No iris want subs and money
So looking forward to your book! Especially the PCOS part, as I'm struggling with this for more than 8 years now and here in my country doctors or hospitals won't listen to me when I say it affects my life! But so truly happy you're writing about this in your book! Million times thank you for that! 🙏🏻
I’m really lucky with my period. I have been using a menstrual cup for a couple years now and it’s completely changed my view of my period because it’s so easy to use and I change it a lot less often. I don’t really get any other (noticeable) changes to me or my body on my period (apart from my awful skin!!). Your book tour visit in London is on my 16th birthday!! I would love to come going to look into it. You’re such an inspiration x
I'm currently bleeding from my genitals and have retired to my bed with a hot water bottle and feeling ROUGH. Somehow never remember how absolutely awful it is until it hits. But as I said to the guy I was sleeping with this month, it's a relief. It's strange being grateful for being in so much pain. And the nausea is atrocious too. But it means my body is working okay, well my reproductive bits anyway. I hope!
Loved this video! Didn't realise your book was out so soon!! Congradulations and best of luck!
You next book should be Pride and Prejudice and Periods. It would be a period drama. :P
A+ pun. Good show!
Have you seen Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?
My period is always very welcome! I started when I was 14 but only had one period a year or so until I was 23/24, because of PCOS, but for some reason it's started being semi-regular for a few months! So whenever it arrives I'm pleased; it means my body is working as it should.
Used to hate my period (esp before discovering taking one ibuprofen before any cramps start can stop the cramps coming to anything at all, after a good 13 years of debilitating cramps on period day one!) but I started to just try to be grateful for my health and thank my body for functioning healthily with the added bonus of it meaning that I'm not pregnant! Hurrah!
Definitely going to get this book! I love hannah and everything she does is pure gold!
This I s Jen, Wyatt’s ausome mom. When I was 12 I first got my period and I knew what it was but AAS an autistic tween I hid it for 3 months because I was so embarrassed by the mess.
No I know I have very heavy periods that require both pads and tampons, and I know I’m not alone
Ty so much Hannah for writing this book and sharing your life with us
I feel I have a love hate relationship with my periods. They were heavy and long with excruciating pains when I was a teenager. They've now calmed down dramatically (especially since coming off the pill) but I still feel that at 25 I still don't trust my body when I'm on and admire the gymnasts, swimmers, etc. Who do it all any time of the month!
I'm overweight and because of that I didn't get my period for a long time. Now I'm always very excited when I get it, because for me it's a sign that my body is healthy enough for it.
I always hated my period, especially since tampons and pads are so uncomfortable and when I was younger, I wasn’t aware of any other options. Then I was diagnosed with Endometriosis and I hated them even more due to the unbearable pain that accompanied them. So I took back-to-back contraceptives to stop my periods.
Now we want a family so the pill is no more and I’m extremely grateful that I have regular periods, even if I can’t walk for 3 weeks of the month. So I guess how I feel about them has changed quite a bit over the years!
I love your short hair! You look gorgeous in the thumb nail. Love how you talk about sex and making it so normal
I cannot get enough of your videos like this. Only just entered the world of sex and still learning as much as I possibly can, always come to you first
I´d got my period when I was 10 years old. Sure I knew what it was but when I saw that blood in my panties I freaked out. Cried to my mom and she just told my all about it. Went to buy me some pads and chocolate, so sweet. Had massive period cramps util I was 15 years old when I started on the pill and still have it today when I am 22 years old. The pill really works for the pain. Love to watch your hormone diaries and Im definitely gonna buy your book. I live in Sweden, so I have to order it online. Loves from Sweden!
Now that I don't have periods (Jaydess Coil) I do miss it a bit. I liked knowing my cycle and I never minded the blood that much. But then when I used to have them I hated it, the PAIN, the MESS, the FEVER. So, mixed bag? I enjoy that I have them (or, can have them) but I dislike it when they're actually happening? That was a much less simple answer than I expected...
I GET YOU
Yesss! Before I had the implant and had my period I would HATE it and now I haven’t had my period in a few years I really miss it and want everything to be natural again
I totally get it! Mirena buddy here, and while I don't miss the pain, the exhaustion, the spine-straightening, and the 'drop' feeling, it was kind of nice having the pay off and constant "not pregnant!" moment. Now I get them once in a blue moon, and there's not even enough for a liner...
I got the Mirena coil just a couple weeks ago, after years on the pill and hearing your experience Hannah, and I'm hoping for little to no periods for the next 7 years. *Fingers crossed!*
Grateful for IUD that stopped my period! Pcos made my period terribly long lasting! Preordered your book from America can't wait!
oh man, ya girl haaaaaates her period. It's always given me horrible cramps that have sometimes kept me from sleeping. And the period shits are super real. When I got older and my mental health started declining, my period almost always came with one or two days of extra debilitating depression. I got so sick of having to miss class regularly once a month after I'd finally found medication that helped me NOT be like that the rest of the time. So I started an extended cycle hormonal birth control pill and I love it! I love not having my period nearly as often, and when I go get it, it's much lighter and more manageable.
Currently on my 18th day of my period and doing my gcses so very tired! Also dont worry anyone my doctor knows and we are working it out with medications and stuff its all hereditary so think we know the problem. But this video cheered me up, cant wait to read the book!
At 11, almost 12, I was an early bleeder and that is what came as a shock to me. I knew what a period was, but all my YA books were about girls 13+ anxious to finally get their period which is why I never figured it in my cards to start so early. My mental age barrier was 12 at the earliest and I missed it by one month which is why I cried in shock and desperation when I discovered it after getting up from the breakfast table one morning.
I'm an enby and I have the Mirena and it makes my life so much better. I don't get periods, I get almost no cramps, and my PMS is way better. I used to have debilitating cramps and dysphoria and now I am free to not count time by PMS, period, and post menstrual trouble. I am freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I started my period at 8/9 and it was the biggest shock, but my primary school handled it really well and my class had a whole lesson on periods and the products in ‘Bryony’s bag’ which was full of pads that the school brought for me to put in the toilet closest to my classroom. Sadly my period causes me a lot of pain and my skin aches and hurts to touch so I’m not a huge fan of it but I do love the idea of the process just not while it feels like my body is trying to attack me aha. Excited for the new book :)
I despise my period so much. It doesn't matter what I do, I just can't can't get used to it. Even though it's been 12 years 😂 Very excited for the book!
A benefit of this video being out of focus is that I can browse all the wonderful titles on your book shelves!
I'm excited for your audiobook! I got a hard copy last time, but I think I'll get this one in audiobook form. :)
I knew all about pregnancy before I knew anything about periods, oddly. My mom had my younger brother when I was about 14 months old, and women in my family were having kids each year (and talking about it a lot), so I knew all about the problems with pregnancy in graphic detail by the time I was 5 and pretty much said, nope, I'm never doing that! Lol. I learned all about periods in school when I was in 4th grade from a scientific view. No one ever told me how painful it'd be. I had crippling pain with my periods all my life until I had colon surgery last year, and now my periods don't hurt. (I'm 48 now.) So I always hated having periods, but now it doesn't bother me. I never did have kids, mostly because I'm asexual and just never developed an interest for that side of life. I do love your channel and hearing all about this stuff from you though. It's interesting to learn different perspectives. :)
I started my period when I was 10 years old, and I thought I had UTI because my privates hurt so much, and there was blood on my panties for days before I had the courage to tell my grandmother what was happening to me. The "talk" was very awkward. Either ways, can't wait to get my hands on this!
See you in Nottingham! Looking forward to reading the book😄
Do you think you'd do a book aimed at younger readers? I remember the book i had when i was 9 or 10 being really clinical.
I like the idea of doing sex ed books for kids but I don't really know where to start! (tbh might wait til I have kids!!)
Yes such a good idea! 💗 💡
I kinda "love" my period since I got menstrual cup ( 3+ years ago).
It wasn't much of a problem ever, half a day of cramps and back pain, regular painkillers working, and not at all heavy.
But since I replaced tampons it's less of a hussle, and I feel lighter, like it's not even there. And no money spent, and bonus for an environment.
Just purchased your book! Can't wait.
Can not wait to come and see you on tour in Birmingham ❤️
My question actually made the video ! Yay ! Love you Hannah, doing a great job can’t wait to read the book and see you on tour ! Xx 💜
'By me, Han - ow *smirk* - Hannah Witton'
Had a good chuckle over that one.
boringly, I'm pretty indifferent to my period. I find it a bit of a pain (logistically and physically) but more get frustrated with the guessing game of when it will appear (the joys of irregularity due to stress! we love exams!!) sort of make me wish I didn't have it, but it does give me a week of being more grounded and realising this is MY body so I need to look after it, in terms of how I look after it but also how I treat it in my mind and being kinder to it!
I'm also on the mirena and I dont miss the menses at all. I listen to people talk about that and I just shake my head #livingthedream
Brought my copy, now to wait for it to get to New Zealand. Can't wait to read it!
Mine drive me absolutely mad, as soon as I've had kids I'm doing something to stop them for good!
Hey 👋 Hannah I just pre ordered your book 📚 so excited 😆. I live in America so it won’t get here until next month. ❤️ By the way I love ❤️ your dress 👗 so much. You do great work.
My period typically only lasts 3 days (always over the weekend 🙄) and it actually doesn’t bother me to much. Especially since I started using a menstral cup! Menstral cups have been a life changer for me. I will never go back to using tampons.
Hannah, you are GLOWING in this video, also so excited to read the book!! x
thank you!!
I use hormonal contraception to skip my periods every month and have for about 8 years. I'm happy with this routine and every time I miss enough doses to get breakthrough bleeding (no pregnancy scares, I track my fuck ups responsibly lol) or during the 6 month stretch I took a break from the pill I find my quality of life is generally worse with periods. I do feel a little out of step with my peers sometimes since its such a big part of "bleeders'" lives, but since I've been lucky enough to avoid serious symptoms with the pill I don't see any point in inconveniencing myself to commiserate lol.
I guess the English version should be available right away, at least around Western Europe. I've preordered it to Switzerland from a Swiss bookshop and did the same thing for Doing It, which came in just a few days after the release date ☺️
I hope to see/hear this in Audible!! ❤️ Do you think you’ll be releasing it there and would you be the narrator because that would be fabulous! Ahhh......never mind, it just isn’t available in the US Audible. 😭
Its nice to know them girly things to try have a better understanding of what women have to go through every 30 days ps i dont know if they are more men or women whom watch your channel i do find it informative. Great subjects covered and keep up the good work.
Sean Brennan I watch Hannah so I a man learn more about women
I absolutely despise my period when it comes along every month but I rely on it to know that my body is at least functioning properly. For example, ever since I started I've been pretty regular (apart from small shifts here and there), however I've recently started my A Level exams and just before I was to start them, I was late a good 10 days which was pretty strange for my cycle (which I've been logging with Flo for the past 7 months, such a good app). It showed me that something at least was affecting me enough to cause this so made sure to take it easy for the next few days. So I guess I need it, even though I hate it when it does actually come around haha.
Ahhhh thanks for the book depository rec!!! Ordered to Canada!!!! Love that
Here's the thing about coming off the pill causing weight gain: This is more common with oral contraceptives that contain estrogen. The progesterone-only ones tend to cause weight gain when you are on them, not so much when you come off (not oral, but the Depo shot is particularly known for this). So if anyone is concerned about weight gain and has the option to use an estrogen-containing product, you might want to lean that way. (Progesterone-only products are also more likely to cause acne where estrogen products tend to be the ones that may help clear acne, and progesterone-only products can sometimes cause facial hair growth. But sometimes you can't or don't want the estrogen product.)
Your comment on people getting their period and not knowing what it is and how "you'd think you're dying," reminded me of Tamora Pierce's first book series Song of the Lioness. The protagonist Alanna was raised by an inattentive father (her mother was dead). Then when she was 10, she and her twin brother were being sent off to their own educational pursuits, and neither wanted the one they were being sent on, so they traded places, and she went to knight school in her brother's place. But girls weren't allowed to be knights, so she had to be in disguise as a boy. As a result, at no point in her life did anyone tell her about periods, and when she got hers, she did indeed think she was dying.
I'm so glad to feel neutral about my period lol. I neither hate it, nor love it. I don't get any PMS or cramps or whatever, so it's just like any other day of the month for me with the exception of when I have to empty my cup, which is 2-3 times for 24 hours.
Your so lucky I get really bad pms
I am always glad when my period comes because it shows me my body is still kind of working. My cycle is really irregular up to 52 days and I am always like: "Whoohoo, not pregnant!" But after that moment of joy I want it to be gone as fast as possible :D
I hope your tour will also take place in some school.
This topics must be discussed at school.
School must Educate before Instructing students.
Just ordered 😍 so excited! I'm part way through 'period repair Manuel' by Lara Biden - so amazing! So excited to be learning so much about periods 👌😎 thanks Hannah xoxoxo
I like having a period, kinda ) sometimes it's annoying when it leaks but overall it makes me feel cozy and justifies not being that productive :) I even enjoy pain but I gotta say that I don't have a severe one.
I just ordered so excited
You should be really proud of this accomplishment Hannah! My 15th birthday is in two months and I still haven’t got my period, soooo I’m a little confused about how you were saying people are getting their periods younger now 😆 I guess I’ll be super prepared. I also just wanted to mention, it’s not necessarily a great thing to be waiting this long - every one of my friends has had their period and don’t get why I want mine to happen...I guess it’s more about not knowing when it’ll happen that freaks me out a tad. So just if you’re my age and have a friend like me, just try to listen...it’s not as fun as it seems to be the one who hasn’t got it. Anyway, thanks for reading my rambilngs 🥴 I just giggled a little when you said it was for people 15+, so people who’ve had their period for a little while already 😋 sending you a hug, Hannah 😘 I really love your videos 🥰
Started my period today, so this made me smile
I don't have periods as I'm using the depo injection for contraception. Generally very happy with this scenario, although I am slightly annoyed that I cant then track my cycle and get to know my hormones/moods etc better, because I have no cycle to track!
1:25 ... I am actually, really *one big period right now*😑
Congrats on all of your accomplishments, you’re wonderful. Very excited for you and this! 🎉🎉
I also have mirena and I haven’t had my period in over four years and.... it’s amazing
Hate my period, but I’m stoked for the book! I live in Canada though so I’ll be ordering it from the Book Depository!
Ps. I’m also on my period on publication day. I’ll try to be happy for you while my body is falling apart.
Definitely have to get that book
I find it amusing that I got my period today, the day you uploaded this video. XD Periods FTW :D - Great video Hannah, I'm always watching but never usually comment - thanks for all the great content!
I don’t mind my period too much but am on the pill so only have one every 7 weeks or so and can delay it for holidays etc which helps. I’ve also recently made some cloth pads and am kind of pleasantly surprised when they work so have enjoyed getting used to them.
I've have harmony with my period. For a long time I hurt so bad I almost couldnt function but now with the pill it comes with a little bit of pain and then leaves after a couple of days. That's okay friend, go in peace
Crippled in pain two days a month from cramps, like, can hardly get out of bed/leave the couch, so no, I don't like it. And thank you for pointing out that not everyone can use menstrual cups, for example if you suffer from vulvodynia and it hurts too much. I love the non-waste goals, but everyone, please don't shame people who need their pads.
Ps. I'm on my period right now. And I got a headache from trying to watch this blurry video, until you told me and I realised how stupid I am and that I can just listen to it instead. But this headache and cramps combination sure isn't fun...
yup - i dont suffer from vulvodynia or anything like that. But i have mental health problems that get worse when im on my period - i'm so tense i have to force tampons in and often have to use tiny little ones that might only last 30mins. Can't stand pads because of the smell - so i refuse to use the fabric ones. Every one with a period should just use whatever works and support people making their own choices.
Can't wait to get your book--I'm moving house at the moment, so I'll be waiting until I get settled and get my new address. Congrats on publishing another!
Cant wait for the book. Hate my period :( suffer Chronic Hormonal Migraine
Congratulations, Hannah! Best wishes from Texas! 😁
I've actually found myself feeling grateful for my period since I have PCOS and it affects the frequency of it. I feel that I'm healthy when it comes! Lol
Ha ha just got to the bit where you explained the video was out of focus - I have been cleaning my screen thinking it was greasy 🤣😂🤣😂
So excited about the audio book!! Yay!!!!!
I’m Australian and preordered through Book Depository - it is on its way and due to arrive to my granddad’s house ehehe
When my mom first got her period, she thought she was sick and was gonna die because her mom just never talked to her about that stuff.
She hid the first bleeding, but when it came back a month later, she then went to my grandma, crying and really convinced she was going to have to die.
So praise sex ed
The last thing you said about girls not knowing what a period is beforehand reminds of the 2013 movie Carrie, based by Stephen King.
you're awesome, good luck with the book.
ffs lock off the auto focus! x
I'm coming to the Manchester book signing!! Can't wait
I am on relatively good terms with my period. When I first got it I was in the middle of a school play ... so that was ‘fun’.
Hi Hannah 😊
I read your 'doing it!' and I really enjoyed it! Looking forward to this one too. Although it will probably release here in India a bit later than 13 June. Anywho, I am getting it! 🤓
Yeah I def thought I was dying when I first got my period. Can't wait until I can afford the book, I am very excited about it!
I am always a bit relieved when my period starts, but OH MY GAWD, I hate having it. But, I've always had super painful cramps and heavy bleeding.
Thanks for answering my question! It actually was a deeper answer than I was expecting and I never really thought about it lol
My period and I are in a complicated relationship
I cried for a solid 10 minutes when I got my first period but over the years I’ve grown to be sort of ok with it
As someone who had no idea what period was when she got her first period(11-12), I thought I was dying...and I literally tried to use tissue to wipe off all the blood that was coming from my vagina bc obviously I didn’t know pads and tampons at that time as well. I was literally crying bc I was thinking how the hell could I get this thing done. Education on this is so so so important.
i used to be okay with my period and then last year, I got a seven month period and now we are on bad terms. I am working with my doctor to get my body back on track so I can stop being angry at my period but it is a long and painful process.
Can you do a video about endometriosis some time? That would be so fab.
Also, one about the menstrual cup. I can't get the hang of that thing.
Honestly i thought i was dying when i got my first period. Hey we lived out in the country and my mum hated talking about these things.....so yeh some of us don't know these things. Oh and after i had children, my periods went from normal easy breezy to horrendous, to i feel my insides falling out kind of ones.....im in menopause so now yay!! No more freaking out about blood clots!!!
very interesting, I started my period at 10. and I wish I had more info available to me as a young kid.
I’m dyslexic and honestly, can’t read more than an article without screaming; will there be an audio version? Pleaseeeeeee?
Nvm just saw that lol. Thank god!
When i came off the pill for a little while a few years ago I had the worst break out of my life (like mild acne which i had never had problems with) and i gained A LOT of weight which took a while to lose again. At the end i came back to the pill because of PCOS 🙃
I am going through a very similar experience! Except I came off the pill last year and then got diagnosed with PCOS because my periods didn't come back. It has been a weird experience because I had no symptoms of PCOS before going on the pill at 19. It's a stressful/difficult thing to be told you have when you can't treat it. Isn't it shocking that 1/5th of women have it but we don't get taught about it in school?
I’m definitely buying it
Congratulations happy for you on your book
Cute pigtails :D
I pre-ordered the book in Italy with amaz***.it in the kindle version!! this is possible!! I'm waiting for it!!
Is there a contraception that doesn't stop periods? I've had health issues which stopped my periods for 4 years, I kinda want them to stay now! Also the moon cup has completely revolutionised my period, it makes it sooo much easier (and cheaper!)
you can take combined hormonal contraception and take a week break where you won't have a real period but a withdrawal bleed. Or on the copper coil you can still have your period but it may be heavier/more painful
@@hannahwitton Thank you for your speedy reply. Gosh it's such a minefield and everything has its drawbacks. How do you feel about fertility awareness as a contraception method? Is there anything in your book about this? I'd be interested to hear some opinions from people who use it/it's worked for/it hasn't worked for
I've always hated having my periods. They have always made me feel extremely awful with nausea, vomiting, constipation/diarrhoea, headaches, cramps, bloating etc. I've been on birth control since I was 16, I'm now 23. I have the contraceptive implant, but still unfortunately get periods. I'm lucky that it's about 2 a year. How do people manage with 1 a month? 😮
Congratulations on your book being released this week. Just so happen to be on my period 😅
I'm thinking about getting a hormonal coil when I get my implant removed in 2021, but wanted to ask what you think of the coil as you've had it a few months now.
