Check Your Posture - Flute Tube, Episode 58

  • I'm encouraging all of us to think more deliberately about how we stand, and sit, while playing the flute. Relaxed shoulders, long neck and elongated spine, free lower back and hips, weight over your feet, knees not locked, low center of gravity, feeling your weight sink down through the floor into the ground, As If You Were a TREE!
    If you haven't yet, do check out Flute Tube Episodes 2 and 23. I talk a lot about hand, wrist, and arm position and flute balance in these two videos.

    • FLUTE BALANCE - How to...
    I forgot to say it in the video again, so please like and subscribe if you find this useful! 🙏 ❤️
    (You may be able to tell from this video that I'm feeling sentimental about my house these days. I'm taking advantage of the sellers' market and moving soon. Saying goodbye!)

    Another great video (actually they just get better and better!). I think I'll be watching this one at regular intervals as it's so useful. Thanks for putting these all videos together.

      Thanks again for all of your comments and encouragement! I love getting an audience beyond my own flute majors. During the summers I kinda think a lot of them take a break from watching regularly.... they'll get their viewing assignments in the fall! 😆

    I never really thought about the very technical parts of the posture, but it's definitely important. I've tried a few of these posture tricks, and they really do make a big difference.

      Yes, even though it's pretty simple, it's good to know exactly what you should be doing and why.

    This video is so informative and contains lots of great ideas applicable to other instruments, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this very important topic! Love especially to hear about all kinds of ways to use the natural motion instincts!

    • @AprilClaytonflute
      @AprilClaytonflute  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes - I'm sure you have the same kinds of ideas for violin - the more natural we can keep our motions (especially basic posture, and motions we repeat over and over and over....) the better!

    ALthough not a flutist, it's always educative to watch something about posture. One or two things can be used for keyboard players too.

      We probably all have to think about our spines.... 🤔

    Great video! Perhaps you should give Ian Anderson this video. He always like to play on one leg in a tree pose posture. Lol

    • @AprilClaytonflute
      @AprilClaytonflute  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha thanks for the suggestion! Maybe he's one reason I won't tell people they can't dance and play the flute at the same time! But perhaps he should consider his posture.... 🤔 😂

    • @chucksmusicaldebris3536
      @chucksmusicaldebris3536 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course at his age his posture is probably very important. Lol

      Thanks! It's an amazing house but I've been wondering when the right time to downsize would be for a few years (it's 4370 square feet!). If there's a right time.... it's now!
