I just signed up for Distrokid yesterday after dithering for a year. I have spent the last two years writing and recording and have two full albums with artwork and titles. But i have lived as a reclusive studio zombie for years and litterally know no people nor do i have any social media presence.I don't even own a phone, I'm watching your tutorials , thanks. I'm really not sure what to do next. but my general plan is to releace a single per month till Christmas, then an album. But as i am compleatly unknown i don't even know which Genre i would fit in. Thanks again for the posts, I'll be letting you know how it goes. Hopefully you will give me a bit more advice when I get my toe in the water. All the best.
If ur actually good and Intriguing you’ll have a better chance especially on tiktok even you want to be more talent than personality but if it depends on the artist and how they wanna build their image xD
That Distrokid is shown as the label isn't tacky. It's modern and in time. Record Labels have been fucking over musician since god knows when. This is musicians taking control IMO! :D
Having trouble with my forthcoming release not showing up in Spotify for Artists.(then I can't pitch playlists) Would that be solved by upgrading and setting a release date through Distrokid??
If only they could remove the annual payment for content id while they charges extra 20% from loyalty. They should keep that 20% loyalty cut and remove that annual charges for all your releases with content id. That's the only reason why im thinking about moving to ditto......
No, A Release officially comes from Distribution services only. Bandcamp and TH-cam are releases however they are not in the distribution systems outside of thise platforms.
I have a question about the real name feature. So i plan on being a masked music producer / DJ and was wondering if the real name thing was required as in unavoidable or if you can leave those check boxes unchecked
Hi guys what if theres 1 account with two artist and one of them wants to have his own account, can the other person just open another account and start uploading with the same artist name that is in the other account?
Only one user account should have the music on there and the other must be listed as a collaborator, you cant upload and publish the same music from different accounts.
For the TH-cam will it upload to my TH-cam account? Or nah lmk when you can be safe I’m gonna invest pretty soon just wanna make sure I don’t screw myself
Hi, I got a question guys. I’m thinking about signing up to Distrokid with my friend and we would like to form a band. When we select the $20 plan where you got 1 artist, can you have two credit cards registered to the one account or not? Because we would like to get payments on eachothers credit card. - If yes, can you also select how many % of earnings each other gets from every song?
I am planning on making hiphop music - this means I wont get the "TH-cam Money" option - will I still be able to upload 'Official Music Videos/ Lyric Video" on my artist channel? Will I still be able to collect money from monetization if I do so? -- or in general what happens if you upload your singles to TH-cam without clicking the $4,99 TH-cam money option Also, I want to make my own 'Official Audio' videos - will they still go to TH-cam Music (if I don't click the TH-cam Music option when I release on Distrokid) or is this only possible if do click the TH-cam Music option -- I only ask because I know Distrokid makes 'Official Audio" videos that are not very aesthetic I know its a lot, but a reply would be appreciated
You or anyone eles can upload your music thats released unless you use the audio tracking feature. The audio tracking detects your music and will notify you if it detects that someone has uploaded it or used it anywhere including TH-cam. You will be sent a notification and then you decide if You want to allow it or if You want it blocked.
My question is ( and i hope you see this and answer me quickly) for all the artists you produce, did you open a 5 to 100 account or just one account to distribute their songs
Btw if I buy the 19.99 distrokid option and I wanna upgrade to the 35.99 one , will it make me pay only 16 more dollars or will it make me pay the full 35.99?
The accounts are auto generated, some services like TH-cam let you make your own additional accounts some dont. For Spotify you have to request your account from them onces your Distrokid is set up.
Just made an account and uploaded my first single to Spotify, Apple Music,iTunes, and youtube but just selected that it was my first single and did not select an account for each service. Will this make a new account or where will this song go? Very confused.
Very awesome video! I have a question that distrokid support doesn't seem to respond to clearly as it is their robot system iam dealing with. Upon registering my song ( a single) to distrikid for distribution do it get a ISRC code for that song generated by distrokid?
It's tricky - you have to pay some money upfront. I would look at the fine print for everything and then make a decision from there, overall I think covers are great for TH-cam and originals are better to release for DistroKid

It's SUPER important for DistroKid, just cause a lot of those goodies are insanely useful
This was really helpful thank you.

This was extremely helpful. Just got a sub
Do you have to open accounts in all these platforms prior or does distrokid do the job instead ?
Thank you!

If I have uploaded my song independantly on my channel, does that mean it has been released already or not? (Might be a dumb question but still.)
No, A Release officially comes from Distribution services only. Bandcamp and TH-cam are releases however they are not in the distribution systems outside of thise platforms.
I have a question... Do one has to pay to upload to spotify even after paying to distrokid?
No. Your music goes everywhere for free
Thanks for the heads up 😊💯

Thanks for the video, but TH-cam is now forcing >1-min long unskippable ads... barf. You may want to disable that in your monetization settings.
Please explain the splits question button
I'm a independent artist and I'm not on a record label. Can I still use distro kid
Yes
For the TH-cam will it upload to my TH-cam account? Or nah lmk when you can be safe I’m gonna invest pretty soon just wanna make sure I don’t screw myself
My question too
can I use the same cover art for multiple tracks in the same album on distrokid?
yes
It has the number of Tracks to select for your release so yes they will all use the same art work.
How to release under multiple names with the plus plan?
Wow
I am the 17th person to watch this video
🎉🎉🎉
can i pay them monthly ??
Are u able to use content id on hip hop music?
It's tough to say - there's a lot of factors (are you using royalty free samples, etc). Overall yes, but there are a lot of rules now
Awesome
Thanks!

What if you selected UTube Content ID and later you change your mind. Can you unselect it in the future?
Unfortunately no

Do i have to put music on itunes what if i just want the royalties and just only earn money
hey i used this app to drop to of my songs yet they arent on my youtube and apple page
I uploaded my song but it cut 2 minutes from it. I had to abort it. It said 100 % complete. Do you know why and what I can do to fix this.
I have youtube channels with my music on it as well. I neen checking and paying that 5.00 fee for if youtube uses my content. Was i supposed to that
Thanks for the helpful video. Any suggestions for an up & coming Ghanian artist on utilizing Distrokid to reach an American market?
here is a video I did on that: th-cam.com/video/asDDFEVV37Y/w-d-xo.html

My question is ( and i hope you see this and answer me quickly) for all the artists you produce, did you open a 5 to 100 account or just one account to distribute their songs
if you have multiple artists under a label, you open one account but select the label plan
it says my music was posted but i don’t see it on my spotify
Btw if I buy the 19.99 distrokid option and I wanna upgrade to the 35.99 one , will it make me pay only 16 more dollars or will it make me pay the full 35.99?
They refund you your money back and then charge your card for the 35.99
some one uploaded my music ,can I still claim the royalties if upload my music with DISTRO KID before claiming my accounts...?
what if
you dont have a label??
Do you have to make an account for all the platforms they distribute too?
Nope - they do all that for you
The accounts are auto generated, some services like TH-cam let you make your own additional accounts some dont. For Spotify you have to request your account from them onces your Distrokid is set up.
Why not put a stage name? I never want to use my name so why shouldn’t I?
Did you say "Rdio"? That's a name I've not heard in a long time.. :)
Great video but the discount link's not working
Hmm it should work - I just tested it out
Does it renewel automaticly or have i to pay before the subscription ends ?
Or do they just ask the credit card ??
You give them your credit card and it renews automatically
@@ZigZagProductionStudio ok thanks they already got the cars Information
So this means u have to have an account on all the platforms that u want distrokid to distribute to?
It will create an account on all platforms

Very awesome video! I have a question that distrokid support doesn't seem to respond to clearly as it is their robot system iam dealing with. Upon registering my song ( a single) to distrikid for distribution do it get a ISRC code for that song generated by distrokid?
Once ISRCs have been assigned, you can see them to the right of track titles on the album pages of your DistroKid dashboard.

Did it ever work for u?
Can u still get paid off your song if u drop a music video on somebody TH-cam channel ?
most likely no (unless it's in youtube content id)
Im cooked i bought distrokid and dont have a credit card i cannot do anything with it
I just found out they charge 12.80 for one cover song each
I make cover songs on my YT channel, it is worth it for covers because I've heard it's a hassle
It's tricky - you have to pay some money upfront. I would look at the fine print for everything and then make a decision from there, overall I think covers are great for TH-cam and originals are better to release for DistroKid
@@ZigZagProductionStudio Okay thanks! Would Christmas music be a "cover" as well or does that have different rules?
It depends if it's Public Domain or not - I'd suggest doing a "cover" of public domain Christmas Songs - that way, it more counts as an original
@@ZigZagProductionStudio The cover song thing kinda stinks. I wish they would just take a portion of your earnings instead of a flat fee
