Keep in mind those "Gimmick Matches" were for a championship belt. The most recent "gimmick" match that I saw was Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevarra for the TNT Title and I thought it was a pretty entertaining match.
@@brandonandujar2289 there definitely have been more of these recently than there had been for a while. I liked the Thunder Rosa vs Mercedes Martinez match from Wednesday. Yes, it was No DQ. But you don't see these types of matches often amongst the women. A similar type of match made Britt Baker a worldwide celebrity overnight before her current title run. Like they say in the video, if you don't do it often, it feels fresh and interesting.
Agreed. I’m a big AEW fan but don’t care for the gimmick matches on random tv. Most of the time they don’t make sense why they’re happening in the first place and the level of violence is wild
I think they just have so many ideas and trying to barrow them all at once. Let's be WCW, ECW, WWE, ROH, NJPW, TNA and can't think of the lucha libre major, all in one lol
I think it's this, but a little more. They are doing what you described because they think they have to make every single fan happy every single time regardless of what each individual fan is into. I love AEW, I hrew up in the 2nd row of the ECW Arena from 1994-2000, and I can see a lot of similarities with trying to please everyone and that leading to a product that's all over the place and featuring way too many "hardcore" style matches on free TV to the point where it has less impact. Look at ECW, Heatwave 1996, every single match was either a brutal bloodbath or had crazy turns and story angles going on. 3 hours in, it felt like the main event cage match didn't really mean much. Fast forward a few tears, ECW Arena shows, whether taped or not, had less matches with craziness or bloodbaths. Like out of 9 matches, 3 instead of 6 for example. Barbed wire was used more sparingly. But those few matches that went extreme really went super extreme for that era. And they felt more impact full because those gimmicks weren't overdone, it meant something to the match or the story when something brutal happened. AEW still hasn't figured out that aspect of booking, and that's surprising and disappointing with Taz in that locker room.
Cody Rhodes to partner with Booker T and Reality of Wrestling to create “ADW” AMERICAN DREAM WRESTLING. #WrestlingHasMoreThanOneRoyalFamily first main event Cody Rhodes vs Bryan Keith, the Quickest Kicks in the South!
I like Booker T. he has had a great run in where ever he has been apart of in any wrestling. I don't think he still has it. You vs Moose would be a great test to see if you still have it. You vs Keith Lee would be another great test to.
never watch that crap. to each their own. the original ecw was and still is the most influential hardcore wrestling promotion that did all that. barbed wire matches Funk vs sabu ; taped fist Taipei broken glass match Ian and axl rotten; flaming table matches the dudleys vs the eliminators. I seen them all. that promotion just wants to be ' hardcore ' just to gain ratings

@@Hedgehobbit a little bit of gimmick is fine. I prefer technical grappling with realistic looking strikes. Both Foley and Jeff Hardy too unnecessary punishment from bumps that just did not look that good.

Totally agree it was an entertaining match! It was rated a 5-star match for a reason!
There are too many no disqualification matches

It's tough as far as the Business Side of Pro Wrestling. It depends upon your School of Thought. There is Old-School vs. New School.

AEW just really need some really big build up to those types of matches
Where is that lost episode if I may ask? I was looking all over the place & never found it.
I agree, The Hardcore stuff should be special not a weekly thing
AEW is all over the place as a whole.
It's crazy that there are some people that disagree with this take.
It's the truth, these guys are not going to last doing that every week and a lot of it is meaningless and no sense. But the fans don't care.

Where is Dixie Carter??
😂😂😂
The cussing they do in AEW is wack. It doesn't seen organic. Lol. I could be wrong
I guess ECW never got that memo back in the day

I haven’t watched pro wrestling since ‘05, but….mick foley was a pro-gimmick fighter and he was one of the top draws…nuff said
He was also the only one on the roster doing it.

So what you're saying is
Tease the audience, occasionally show a nip slip here and there.
Save the full on adult content for the PPV.
