Back in my high school days I was one of the best modelers around. That’s been over 40 years ago and I’m just now getting back into the hobby. You are echelons above anything I ever could’ve dreamed of working on this body like you did I am just sitting here still in awe, 10 minutes after watching the video!!!
Very nice colour. Lots of work to get this far. Nice to see you build a classic model rather than the newer models! Just my opinion! Lol. Happy days and model on! 😎
I’m such a fan: I’m eagerly waiting for your next video even though I’m occasionally able to get signal AND join a hotspot! When I do, I’m on TH-cam watching your next video 👍🏻. I’m following up with my own build when I can download the kit you’re on and I want you to know I appreciate your time and your skills. Trying to get where you are! Keep them coming!!’
Fun build! My father bought a Firebird in 1970 in a brown, almost bronze. Six years later I learned to drive in this car! When I saw the paint, it looks a lot like Dads. It was a 350 cid with a 3 speed manual. You could have pulled stumps with that car, if it had real tires with grip! Great adventures in that car. Love your channel.
Nice body work. I've never seen the Despiea. wireless rotary tool. Love the Cherry Red vrs the typical white or blue i ALWAYS see this kit built in. I'll be watching
I wish I could do the sanding, filing, scribing etc that you do in your body preparation. It really makes the models body look so much better but I always end up ruining the body and with the price of models now a days I just can’t afford to ruin a model body.
I love the color. I had a 76 and a 78 Firebird. Tore the 78 down to the shell and spent as much money as I could get my hands on to build it. My neighbor let me keep it and work on it in his pole barn and he knew this guy that used to be a big time drag racer. Larry was the guy and he had a building with more engines and part than I had ever seen before. So he must have liked that I was building the car as more of a road racing car and he sold me a Chevy 400 small block that he had. $500 for that motor and I'm telling you what after we got it installed about 3 days later I fired it up and that thing had a gigantic camshaft with lobe separation of about 106... lobe separation at 106 or 108 is that engine that chugs when it's idiling.... whump, whump, whump..... I had side pipes on it with these flow thru "mufflers" but it was still loud as hell. So I put a milk crate in the car and roll it out of the barn and let it warmup..... I then proceeded out onto the road (lived in country) and I brought it up to about 3500-4000 rpm and side stepped the clutch..... I almost wrecked it... scared the hell out of me.... So we weld the top back on and I put the 2 seats in it and drove it maroon body, yellow doors, primer top and quarter panels. That thing was "All go and no show". I beat some really beautiful cars with it and man it used to piss guys off. Most who knew about engines wouldn't touch me when I would be sitting at the light and its just shakin' and barely wanting to run..but when you stomped it and dropped the clutch it would just flat out scream... That 780cfm Holley double pumper would just "Howl" man I miss that car.... another family friend let me put it in his farm barn for the winter and the barn caught fire and that car was in the walkout side by the pastures and the whole barn fell into the "basement" of the barn.... It destroyed about $18k worth of parts and almost 2 years of smashed fingers. The roof actually was somewhat melted and all the glass was gone... the giant fiberglass cowl induction hood probably burned nice and hot killing that motor.... I sold the motor and the hotchkiss suspension parts that were still ok but that was a sad sad day.... All those bales of hay had to be a gigantic fireball. He was out of town and you can't see his place from the road so it probably burned for 2 or 3 days...I actually miss my 73 Cuda the most but that Firechicken could corner just as good as a Vette..... and it was really freakin scary.... It would always do this little power shimmy when I grabbed 2nd and sometime it would break the tires loose.... Good times Good times. Peace.... Sorry the post.. I hadn't thought about that car in probably 30 or so year....
Nice project you got going there Tom and cool colour you've chosen for it too. Always great seeing you prepare bodies for primer, always something new to learn. Thanks for the share.
You make it look so straightforward and simplistic, I've been using an airbrush for the last 2 years and every time I use its like I've just started, I really struggle with primers, resulting now in using revell spray can as veliago has just been a disaster, too thin or clogged up in my reservoir.
There are better primers on the market than Vallejo, it's all up to personal preference. Mr. Hobby works good, but that needs to be thinned. There are also pre thinned primers on the market. Solvend based primers work for me, are better to be sanded.
Are there any channels where the cars are plastic revell, monograms, amt, and mpc model car kits where they're bought from eBay or yard sales and they completely overhaul the plastic model cars? There's a diecast model car channel but I'd rather watch plastic cars completely being rebuilt. I guess if one doesn't exist maybe I should start a channel. Oh and love videos man I'm looking forward to your new uploads. Stay golden pony boy!
I have only found loads of fake die-cast restorations where they find models in random piles of dirt, and miraculously have brand new parts that are not sold seperatly XD(sure there are some legitimate ones out there too). None on model kit restoration though.
I have been wondered. Between the coats, do you leave the paint in the airbrush or you remove the paint and clean it partially. Because ten minutes inside cant clog the airbrush
@@TheScalemodelingChannel. Wow. That's interesting. I do the same thing. I just made a cover to flip down over the opening so it keeps the dust down. Why kool.
When this kit came out originally it got the worst reviews in sae magazine. They called it the spam am because none of the parts matched up properly. It caused a lot of bad feelings between monogram and sae magazine and many arguments in sae articles. I bought on myself and had the same problems that was stated in the article. Lots of mold lines and front clip was way off from the body.its a shame revell never reissued this kit with a redone correct. BOdy because the rest is pretty good. They could easily do the same kit just different year Pontiac bodies

I've been thinking of purchasing this kit for the last few weeks, after watching this I wont be. Thanks for saving me the time and money.
Used to own a 1970 Pontiac Firebird. Had a 400 big block. Used to smoke Gt Mustangs. Loved that car

Very nice like the color!! Love that year. Great tips Thanks 👍
The door handles look great!!
Nice presentation, detailed, well spoken. Thanks
I don't know how but everything you do is just beautiful
Nice work on the adjustment of the body parts!
That color is just...WOW!

Dang Tom, you did so good it makes me want to stop my current build and start a firebird:) great job my friend, I'll see you on part 2
Lovely work. Not a Revell model unless there are parts that don't fit correctly.
Great color! Nice work, as always.
Nice color choice. Excellent work up to this point. Looking forward to watching future videos on this one. Thanks for sharing.
Nice color on the 70 firebird this car reminds me of Erics Estrada car in the show chips
I built ponchorello's firebird the trans am hood with formula scoops
wow you made that old kit look amazing looking forward to the finished build 😀
Nice job brother. I really like that die grinder, that one will be in my box soon.
Thanks for another great video.
Always clean builds!!! Always love me a Trans Am. Gonna be sweet!

Excellent work ❤
Beautiful color.
Monogram/Revell models always did seem a little under engineered as far as fitment goes. Great idea for the door handles, I'll have to try it.
That tooling is as old as I am I'm pretty sure haha Looks like it's held up better than I have!
Looks good
nice video 👍
Came out go..... Nice color.....
i like that matte red
More model kits should come equipped with more radio antennas.
Like the sammy hagar red look as in the era of early solo career trans am was his trademark car.😁
Jman
Hey guy. I'm having a helll of a time fitting the body to the chassis! Does someone offer a fitment assembly?
Nice!!!!!!! 👍👍👍
Little does he know, those hoods never lined up right on the actual TransAms. haha
Nice work!! What type of paint gun do you use?
As for the scoop they could have been ordered "Body Color" and painted t the dealership prior to delivery.

Great build. Do you have a link for the red and black desk mount i have seen in some of your videos that you use for filming your videos? Cheers.
Its from manfrotto ;)

Can you tell me the name of the bracket you use when painting?
Tamiya spray stand
Which airbrush compressor are you using do you use?
Eurotec 20a
do you flush your airbrush while you're waiting ten minutes between coats or just cross your fingers
I just set it aside
What kind of air brush are you using ?
Mr hobby PS-290 and or PS-275
Can you ship the products of your Webshop to South Korea?
Sorry i can’t
Nice job why did you use 2k primer then 1k?
To seal the plastic and prevent the mold lines. And lines around the “mods”/“delete’s” to pop back up after the color coats have been applied
One coat of ppg water base primer will stop that plastic problem then paint
SUPERBE MODELE .....................
Is this the Revell Germany kit? Is it true that this kit decal sheet has more decals than the US version?
Yes, correct
I need to send you my revell 442 do you do work and mail it back?
No thanks
How do you clean the files after use?
Wire brush
I am trying to find someone to put my model together. 1969 torino cobra

Is it really that hard to create new molds of cars/planes that all these companies (especially Revell) keep using molds that are several decades old?
It costs hundreds of thousands of euro/dollar to make molds and tooling. So hard…Maybe, probably. But more cost.
what happen to donn yost
I don’t know
