    0:55 Minor correction; Kushala do have skeletons, and instead of shedding "like insects", it's more akin to snake, which also do this...

    • @reggie9010
      @reggie9010 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Has Capcom confirmed this lately? Because in their Monster Hunter illustrations book it says “have an exoskeleton and there is no way to differentiate between its flesh and bone. (structurally similar to an insect)”

    • @Dinomatrix21
      @Dinomatrix21 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@reggie9010 Looks like you're both kind of right. Apparently, they said that it's metal exoskeleton is directly connected to it's bones, the way muscle is. So it does have internal bones, but it also has an exoskeleton. So like a bug if it had two skeletons, but in the shape of a reptile. Yeah, this biological mystery deserves an Elder Dragon classification.

    Good video! I would also like to note that kushala daora's skin is not an exoskeleton. It has an internal skeleton so it doesnt need an exoskeleton. Look at it more a snake shedding skin rather than a bug shedding it's exoskeleton

    • @Strawfoot

      Strawfoot Interesting. But why does he drop Elder Dragon Bones then?

    • @rafaelmartinez5026
      @rafaelmartinez5026 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Pretty sure that when it naturally dies of age, over the course of many moultings the oxidization of metal creeps itself deeper into it's system and fusing the metal to it's bones and organs eventually obstructing movement and slowly killing it. Don't remember if that was the actual truth but if so then it's a pretty bad way to go for them.

    • @aaroncampbell586
      @aaroncampbell586 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Z Awkward magician So since Elder Dragons came to the New World to die, we’re putting Daora out of its misery, giving it one final battle in life so that it doesn’t die that way instead?

    • @darthplagueis13
      @darthplagueis13 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It certainly has an endoskeleton, not only because you can get elder dragon bones but also because a thin exoskeleton like that would not be sufficient to support the body, the elder dragon would simply collaps due to the amount of weight. It´s body structure is the structure of a vertebrate, after all there´s a reason bugs look like bugs and not like horses.
      I would assume that the skin simply needs to be shed because the rust makes it stiff and brittle as time goes by and starts hindering its movements.

    So the A Lister actually is confirmed to be the Cadet? Huh, it's Very neat how they include references that can never be noticed unless you were around in the previous games. Least now I got a voice to properly fit all the "cool" phrases he came up with in 4U.

      Yeah I thought about mentioning that but I couldn't for the life of me figure out why the Khezu babies were actually there. do Khezu travel to cold mountain climates to lay eggs in elder dragon husks?

    • @julianadams3710
      @julianadams3710 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Strawfoot Khezu naturally live in cold mountains and they probably looks for small sturdy places like crevices for their eggs, Kushala skin would definitely keep the eggs safe.

    • @azurearcade342
      @azurearcade342 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I wish khezu was in mhw. Disgusting, yet fun monster to fight.

  • @vitriolicAmaranth
    @vitriolicAmaranth 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Given you can see its spine when you cut its tail and can be rewarded elder dragon bones from hunting it, I would say Kushala does, in fact, have an inner skeleton in addition to its exoskeleton.
    Also you missed that the Tower from Frontier was constructed out of kushala parts by the ancient civilisation.

    • @min2724
      @min2724 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      vitriolicAmaranth Being able to fight him in the Arena would give you First Aid Med + and that doesn’t mean it’s part of his body. You can’t include game mechanics and balance procedures into lores.

    • @vitriolicAmaranth
      @vitriolicAmaranth 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Complete non-sequitur. First aid meds from arena monsters is a "balance procedure," and the exception to the rule. The drops you get from monsters in NORMAL quests and their descriptions form about 90% of the game's lore, honestly, which is extremely light to begin with (part of the reason I think strawfoot is misguided in clearly trying to become the VaatiVidya of Monster Hunter, though at least he has making his videos rife with inaccuracies and "facts" parroted from badly written wiki articles like Vaati does down pat, since this video aside that's what most of them are full of at this point). For instance, almost all monsters that breathe fire drop flame sacs or a variant of them, which are glands that produce a flammable powder to explain how they perform this seemingly illogical feat, but teostra doesn't, because its fire breath comes from the teostra gems in its body (as is the case with most elder dragons' abilities).
      Or to put it another way, if you're going to seriously insist Kushala is an invertebrate despite its readily apparent bone structure, its drops including its bones and ITS TAIL HAVING A VISIBLE SPINE WHEN CUT, then you definitely have to omit the notion that it has organs in its head and tail that allow it to control the wind simply because breaking those parts impairs its ability to do so in some games.

    great video! Monster hunter got it wrong though, there would be no organs that allowed kushala to control the wind, it would have to do that by the irregular flapping pattern it has, this is revised in monster hunter world, as once it stops flying the tornadoes disappear and the animation for the tornado is a flapping spin. The breath attacks it uses are probably resulted from its lung capacity, due to the altitude of its natural habitat. The lore was spot on though!

      @Strawfoot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, thanks so much, I've worked really hard on the editing and I'm glad it shows. I have a pretty decent mic but I think the problem is more that I can't isolate it from background noise and so I have to run a bunch of noise removal software which is killing the sound quality. Maybe I just need a better room?

    I love the Kushala Daora, it may be my favourite monster in World. But let's just think about its true power in the lore. It can literally change the weather where it goes, create tornadoes and control the wind, this would make it basically unstoppable against everything that isn't a Fatalis or an Alatreon

    There are some information about kushy in mhfu, specifically one of the NPC called elder professor or something talks about kushy at times. And from the book in the hunter's room. It's pretty hard information to get, as we need to play the game, make a progress in it to unlock new informations. It just a suggestion, if you, dear sir strawfoot, know any hunter that still can play previous generations of mh, then i suggest it might worth to do some work together (0_0 )

    You know what i really hate?? That to me it sound like his name is "spoon of gold" cuz it sounds like the Spanish words for itX'D alot of Monsters in this series have spanish sounding names that have funny translations. Lol but amazing work on the video!!

    • @Strawfoot
      @Strawfoot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's actually a reason for that, one of the capcom devs was learning spanish while naming monsters. So that's why we have monsters names like happuruboka (hyper mouth) and Kushala Daora. The guy naming them was just smashing corruptions of foreign words together that he thought sounded cool. I read this, i think, in one of the dev interviews for portable third, sorry I don't have a link anymore.

    A few interesting details involving the ancient civilisation:
    The ancient civilisation used Kushalas skin in order to build towers and other structures, almost culling this dragon out of existence.
    As fearsome as elder dragons are today, the ancient civilisation was even more so, being capable to use elder dragons as if they were slaves.
    It's said that's why there's so little of them in the wild, and reason why they're so aggressive.
    But who knows.

    • @Strawfoot
      @Strawfoot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, that's really cool, I appreciate the info. I honestly didn't know that or I would have included it in the video.

    • @combativeThinker
      @combativeThinker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, they apparently genetically engineered themselves, which is why Hunter's have such ludicrous strength and can survive falls of indeterminate length.
      The ancients overhunting the elder dragons, which are walking natural disasters/elements incarnate also explains how the Fatalis manifested and destroyed them, along with everything else. The way I see it, the ancients overhunting the elder dragons upset the balance of weather patterns, climates, and ecosystems. All of this elemental flux combined with the fear and suffering of the elder dragons that were slaughtered by the ancients gave birth to the Fatalis, a manifestation of the elders' hatred of mankind.

    Like the video, but I'm pretty sure Kushala has a regular skeleton. You can get Dragon bones from it.

    • @Strawfoot
      @Strawfoot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what capcom says, he's just metal all the way through. I read it in one of the books. Yes I know you can carve bones from him but I also once carved two heads off of the same great jaggie sooooo carves don't always make sense in this game. :/

  • @darthplagueis13
    @darthplagueis13 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video, but the part about the Skeleton is nonsense. You can even obtain elder dragon bones from hunting it. It simply sheds its skin because it gets rusty and stiff which makes it hard for THe Kushala to move.

    Can´t really say I like what they did to him in MHW though. I think they stressed the wrong aspects of how he looked in the previous games and I´m also just not a big fan of how he fights now. Kushala is the kind of monster that stays in the skys and constantly bombards you, rather than trying to hug you to death as he is now...

    Bruh if its like an insect and doesnt have inner bones then why is it able tomove about and walk like any other dragon? also it drops elder dragon bones, which is pretty clear proof that it does have a skeleton. The fact that it sheds its skin is because the scales are made of actual metal, and rust after a while. therefore it needs to shed its skin to get fresh scales

    • @Strawfoot
      @Strawfoot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, "skeleton" and organs are actually just more metal, not bone or anything else. This is from Capcom's art book that describes the anatomy of the monster. They also compare it to an insect in the book so I figure they know how their own monsters work. It is a little confusing though, I was wondering what the deal is with the Elder Dragon bones also.

    • @nuke2099
      @nuke2099 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @tylermacgregor1320

    Is the time gap between MH4U and World only 4 years? I thought it was more like 40 years based on little hints they give you here and there, like how they mention the slinger being invented 40 years prior, or how the Seeker, that first fleet wyverian hunter, wields an insect glaive, which was new around the time of MH4.

    • @Strawfoot
      @Strawfoot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think 4 years is more plausible given that the returning character Ace Cadet/Excitable A-Lister hasn't really aged much. Sorry I don't really have a better answer than that, I'll let you know if I find out anything for certain.

    • @tylermacgregor1320
      @tylermacgregor1320 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strawfoot Playing through the game a second time, I think you're right. I noticed far more hints at the A-lister being the Ace Cadet on my second playthrough, as well as an interesting comment from an npc who claims to have spoken to another member of the fifth who supposedly killed a "shegaroo"(obviously meaning Shagaru Magala). Could that be a hint that the player hunter from 4U is there with you in the New World? In hindsight I think the things I noticed were just oversights by capcom.
